Against Flash at 26.46 you can beseech archangel, since you cast it you can kick it twice, nuke the curiosity and gain 4 life- then you’re at 6. Opp flashes in curiosity you have a blocker for both of their creatures.
Doom Foretold is one of my favorite if not my favorite card. When it came out on Arena I quickly adopted it and then kept playing it for years in historic. Orzhov, Esper, Mardu, no matter what color combination, it was the only deck that kept being reasonably effective with any meta going on and it was so fun. Eventually it got to a point where it felt like it was being powercrept out by all the snowbally, card-generating threats that MTG has been getting (way too much IMO) so I stopped and kinda forgot about it for a couple of years. Thank you for reminding me of it! I'll definitely give it another shot, this time in explorer!
I love the card "Doom Foretold". A great piece of design: it's a strong card, but it needs the right deck really shine. It's somewhat of a lock-piece, but it's not oppressive. Shapes the game in very interesting patterns.
I need an enchantment called "dude fortold" and it just does the opposite of doom fortold. Makes a token every upkeep for both players. Itd be great in a daggerburn deck
And Dance of the Manse can be played for cheaper situationally with the same role as Brilliant. With the extra condition of needing blue. And sometimes it can threaten lethal with extra mana if the ETBs don't do it. edit: I just realized the funny double triggers from Brilliant + Yorion
Doom Foretold was the happiest I'd ever been to see a card rotate out of Standard. It was so opressive to play against. It was just able to stall the board for several turns as you could not play anything into it. It allowed the control player to get so far ahead. Watching these matches has brought back those nightmarish memories.
19:11 why not just name Valgavoth here? If it's the only target for transmogrify anyways, is is not better to make sure they couldn't cast a valgavoth later?
Seth finding out Valgavoth is the only target comes from hindsight. It is reasonable to assume some decklists may want to add another creature target for fun or as an off meta pick.
Yes, probably. Omniscience Scryfall rulings: If you cast a spell "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Tormenting Voice, those must be paid to cast the spell. (2018-07-13)
There were a couple turns where you should have been using the Castle to draw some cards at the end of your opponents turn...never change Seth...this is the content we come for...that and Boilerbiggles...
Opponent on Dimir Flash had some timely draws, but they also played in a way that put them in a position to succeed. Seth also had some really strong play, chaining value enchantments and sac'ing them
at 20:05, the flipped fable of kikijiki gets torched and then... Turns into flying text that spins away into exile??? Sorry if this is old news to people, I just have never seen that before and it made me laugh hahaha
Ah, this is the archetype I've played a decent amount in Explorer. Pretty similar to the list I run though I like more Rite of Oblivions (though this was mainly before Disturbing Mirth). I'm also a fan of the 1-of Go Blank and Shelly in the main to get with Beseech the Mirror. I used to run the 1 Harmless Offering, but usually an unchecked Demonic Pact is enough to win and I wasn't retrieving it regularly. 42:00 illustrates exactly what I'm talking about. If opponent took Beseech, Yorion flickering everything (including Nightmare) leaves them with 1 card, kills their creatures, and they're facing 2 Fable Tokens + Yorion + a fresh Demonic Pact at 14. While it's not an immediate win, it's basically a 99%er at that point.
Man I love the card Doom Foretold, I've been playing it for a while and its so fun. Not running red though, since I'm trying it on a budget. Gotta love the Yorion Budget deck 😂
I've played a lot of Doom Foretold in historic and I'm very surprised not to see Oath of Kaya, at least on the sideboard. It's very good for shoring up your matchup against aggro decks. I haven't played as much Pioneer, but watching these games, it definitely seems like it would have been better than, say, the Hopeless Nightmares, maybe?
Why trial of ambition over tithing blade? Sometimes you don't sac it and trial just sits there (since you don't have any cartouches) but blade can turn into a secondary win-con. Love the deck idea btw.
1. As you may already know, because Ambition came from old iterations of Doom Foretold strats, I'm inclined to believe Seth forgot or didn't care enough to replace it with Blade. 2. Doom Foretold was played with other enchantments back then, so Blade being an artifact may turn off some players. 3. Disturbing Mirth requires enchantment sacs. And Mirth at 4 isn't nothing. Even though the rest of the deck seems to not care about enchantments specifically. Bargain mechanic can use artifacts and enchantments. Just realized Blade also comes with another minor upside as a non target edict. Ambition says "target".
Ive been playing black white doomforetold for about a year now in historic. My list uses invasion of tolvada and touch the spirit realm to really boost yorion value. I went 11-2 in best of one last time i played. Leyline binding hurts the deck the most
I have to wonder if your older strictly Orzhov version wouldn't have been better, especially with something like Victor, Valgavoth's Seneschal in it for Yorion blinks.
Hey Seth, any ideas for a Homunculus Horde draw-2 deck? I've put together a really jank version, but I only had the wildcards for 1 Horde and most of the other stuff is really mid monoblue looting effects, so I was wondering what you'd think would be a good list?
46:55 I mean, hindsight is 20/20, but wouldn't Invoke Despair have been better here? The Slasher would be tapped and you would've drawn two cards to try to deal with it on the following turns
Love this! I really like Beseech and Doom, in fact I'm always trying to find the perfect Beseech to Dark (with or without Doom) deck in Explorer. It's hard 😢 PS: Instead of the Archangel, one copy of Valgavoth and one Transmogrify doesn't hurt, isn't? Although in my version I run Carrot Cake...
Pros and cons, Archangel vs Valgavoth+Transmogrify. One has aggro matchups and potential burn for lethal. The other can add substantial pressure to the board. But if Valgavoth or Transmogrify is exiled or milled or discarded, or Valgavoth is drawn, pain.
@@johndoe9343 Yap. I think is probably worth it, like the Pact Offering... But on the other hand the jank in me is too powerful. Would you play it, friend?

Okay I'm confused 🤔🤔 how many times could casting Archangel of wrath would've put us in a great spot???. You can pay. The kicker off of beseech the mirror.
The first time i got seriously into competitive magic was when oko was legal and I tried to play doom foretold in the MCQ or whatever they were wrre calling the arena things. I thought it was a meta play because I was actually pretty well positioned against UG oko, but I ran into too much 3 color oko. It was like a 90% oko meta, everyone had a bunch of aether gusts and noxious grasps in the main deck, and you still had to be playing oko. No regrets, doom foretold is a sweet card, which is way better than being a good card.
plays a doom foretold deck seems to take every single play EXCEPT doom foretold??? like, if you had taken doom foretold instead of the wrath with beseech the game you lost to bloodletter, you wouldn't have died next turn. Even if you weren't sure what else he was going to play, you were still sacrificing half your life when that just didn't need to happen. Doom foretold immobilizes the slasher, then he plays whatever he plays, and then he either loses the new creature or he kills his own slasher for good his following turn. That's about the best situation you could have hoped for since you had no creatures to gain life off of and it still wouldn't have killed the slasher for good.
I never watch pioneer content but I ALWAYS watch Doom Foretold content.
You seem to be caught in a paradox, hope you can resolve it soon 🙏
You must be my brother from another mother. Same here!
Same here. My favorite enchantment!
The way thats phrased reminds me of those riddles, i never watch pioneer but i always watch doom fortold. Who am i? - the sphynx

26:12 can you cast archangel of wrath with the kickers? I forget how that works without paying mana cost but I think you can pay the two mana?
Yes, probably.
Omniscience Scryfall rulings:
