I don’t know if you got the idea from me but that is almost exactly what I suggested and I thought it made for a great game. We got to see some unusual choices though Phil and Crim certainly were still in their wheelhouse.
I think that is worth doing again but everyone has to pick a card type they haven't chosen. I could see Richard building a very different kind of sorcery deck or Seth building a very different planeswalker deck for example.
also i think an enchantment deck that is ONLY enchantments would be sick. and an instants deck. sick idea :)

Teyo is really good. He pretends to be a group hug card early game, late game he’s a fog, and if he can stick early he turns into a multi turn fog.
Yeah, I rate him super highly in practice. It means as a super friends player that you only need to focus your removal on one player when you likely have tons of it.
Not gonna lie, kind of disappointed the Sorcery deck wasn't run by Codie, Vociferous Codex for the Lolz.
The commanders were all technically also the card types of the deck, though Phil probably should have either used an MDFC Strixhaven card (like Journey to the Oracle) or put Kellan back into command zone instead of into exile on an Adventure to stay within the spirit of the restriction

I'm disappointed that the Planeswalker deck wasn't Guff. He's perfect for it: card draw, damage, makes creatures to block with, has colors with more useful Planeswalkers.
I'm a little surprised you guys chose sorceries as the fourth instead of enchantments, considering it would be all of the major nonland permanent types outside of battles. And enchantments in the last few years have became significantly stronger with cards like ATG, the enchantment creatures, and a whole bunch of hate bears cards like Blind Obedience and Tithe.

Best colors & legends imo for each deck:
Gruul - Sorceries only (omnath landfall or simic w/ tatiyova)
Golgari - Creatures only (pharika, izoni)
Mono blue - Artifacts only (emry)
5c - Walkers only (locus of all)

I've got an all-enchantments Anikthea deck (with Umori companion) and it rocks.
I feel like Richard maybe held back by going for a colorless artifact commander instead of something like Breya. Bolas's Citadel alone would make me at least go for one of the Necrons.
Richard's deck sure seemed pretty Creature heavy for 'only Artifacts'. Artifact Creatures kinda make the restriction feel less real also Myriad is a 'may' ability so you're literally opting into making tokens in order to attack Crim in that situation.
Im a lil upset that we didnt get the 100% with no lands. Only mdfc and other ways of producing mana

@@Chiavica He mentions MDFC's, I think it would be extremely difficult in a lot of color combos to even get to your standard ~35-40 lands you want using literally every MDFC card
Seeing Visions may not be the priciest drop, but the art is what Secret Lairs should be doing, you get 4 different versions and they're all amazing (and people hated this idea btw, hence they stopped doing it I guess), and the flavor is pretty sweet too. It also is a call back arguably to the FNM Serum Visions, which is... suggestive, to be polite. In it's own way that card is every bit as bad as Ekundu Cyclops, it's just a bit more niche (though with the internet is there such a thing as a niche perversion?).
I had an old Morrocan coin that I used for coin flips in Yugioh (I used a surprisingly large number of cards that required flips). It had two sides naturally, one had a camel (which was 'camel'), the other had some Arabic on it (which was 'Arabic'). It was a rural environs, so as long as I let the opponents choose, they always chose camel, and the coin was flawed enough that it was VERY often Arabic. It was good times!
I really thought this game was going to be a turd of a gimmick game, but lo, you guys put on a hell of a show!

9 of his 28 creatures didn't even work with it. I would have gone Mazemind Tome, Investigator's Journal, and Hylda's Crown of Winter, not to mention Scroll Rack. Also surprised over Phyrexian Triniform over Triplicate Titan. That 12 encore cost is a meme, and if you drop it you get a flampler instead.

With the constant increase of the power creep, and card rarities downgrading nowadays, I think you should reconsider playing pauper edh again. Maybe pauper EDH is a lot stronger now than the years before. Or even 1 game where you are only allowed to play reprints. (I know this comment is out of place, but don't know where else I could send this kind of message.)

idk man. Ignoring abilities, Artifacts has the most variance, since it still gets "Creatures" instead of static bodies.

Dang Seth in this video made me realize that if they printed the Mimeoplasm into standard I would play
urborg scavengers is kind of a mini-mimeoplasm in standard and honestly it's not complete jank I especially like its play pattern when it works. Hits the battlefield eats a haste creature so it can attack immediately then eat like an atraxa off attack trigger three mana 5/5 haste, vigilance*, flying, lifelink, deathtouch when all goes well. Even hits opponent's graves so works as mini graveyard hate and can hate on domain decks if you can find a way to put their atraxa in grave and dodge removal.

These decks have lands so they are not 100% creatures, planswalkers, sorceries or artifacts

6 minutes in Richard is already manipulating the table, “Phil wins because he can ramp” as though artifact decks can’t ramp.
Richard also tried to deflect that blue artifacts do the card draw even though he could have ran a blue deck.
Here is a list of mono blue artifact creatures that he could have ran as commander.
Nardole, Resourceful Cyborg
Nick Valentine, Private Eye
Jetfire, Ingenious Scientist
Memnarch
The Reality Chip
all would have been just as good as Karn and gave him those better blue artifacts.
They can ramp plenty, just most of it gets blown up at some point or another. Nobody ever touched phil's lands...

Creatures and Planeswalkers can ramp too, obviously. That didn't really make any sense to me...
To think the only time richard could make a functioning mana base is when he didn't need any colored mana
I find it hilarious that everyone has to work around this weird restriction of types and then Seth just gets to build a normal deck with actual synergies
I think Richard could have totally played an artifact creature type of deck that wouldn't be all that hindered by the deck building restrictions too much but maybe he thought that wouldn't fit the janky flavor of the vid. Creature is probably the least restricted of the card types, wasn't a fan of Seth running those relatively one sided cards (bane of progress and bringer of the last gift) when he knows he is playing decks that can't run creatures and non-artifacts.

@@zsorens4570 Well no one said the other decks couldn't run creatures... In the case of the sorcery deck, you run Adventures or something if you need a creature; in the Artifact deck there's a lot of creatures that are also artifacts... And several Planeswalkers make creatures, including Grist which also counts as a creature while it's not on the battlefield...
@@ryangainey94 Sorcery deck could barely play creatures and planeswalker deck was barely gonna do much better, the point is using the knowledge that your opponent's almost certainly won't have creatures in graveyards, or every non-land permanent they have is an artifact to your advantage seems a bit metagaming. Like if Phil had a red commander and he ran Vandalblast that would be kinda fucked.
@@zsorens4570 It’s not like these cards are niche tech cards though. I run a full creature commander deck too and Bane of Progress is an auto-include in that deck.
Everybody calling out Phil for having ONE creature in his deck, the commander, while Richard totally circumvents the restriction by having artifacts and creatures in his deck.
To be fair, Artifact creatures still fall under the "artifact" umbrela. Same as if someone decided to go full enchantment and used Enchantment creatures. What I am sad is that the same thought can't be used on adventure creatures, even though they have the spell on them, they are still consaidered primarily creatures. Although by that thought, Seth could have used adventure creatures in his deck if he wanted.
If we go even deep, Crim could have played the two-sided planeswalkers from magic origins or mh3, as well as Seth could have played enchantment creatures with bestow, but not vehicles.
There was many ways to go around the specific rule to each one decks.
I mean, Phil also could have played Awaken the Blood Avatar, which is the two-face strixhaven card that the front's a creature, alongside a lot of the sorcery that makes tokens and just cast that multiple times to have a really wide board of avatars that couldn't be killed easily because none of the other players running sorcery/instant removal apart from Phil.
Yeah no, I fully agree, as long as the card in your deck is a instant/sorcery/planeswalker its fine, otherwise you should say that the planeswalker player can't make creature tokens. Everything shared a creature type so its fine.

To be fair, the only option Phil had besides that would have to be Extus, although Extus is a fun deck too. And Jadzi. I don't remember if there's any others

If he didn't just forget, maybe he doesn't want to go through the trouble of having to pay the 3 to put it in hand first? I've found myself wanting to do a million other things than pay 3 to put my, for example in my kenrith deck, zirda into hand. Umori has a good effect of course but 7 mana overall just doesn't seem appealing imo. Again he also might have just forgot LMAO

Journey to the Oracle was also a choice for a Simic sorcery commander that ramped and wasn't dealing with adventure rules baggage
Loved watching this. The big limitation on deckbuilding created interesting decks that didn't consist of 50% of the same cards we see every week (besides some peoples landbase) and everyone seems to be having fun at the table as well.
Agreed! These are some of my favorite episodes to watch because of the self imposed restrictions require some creativity.

I built the Androgynous Rex as soon as it came out. It's absolutely nuts, I've even been able to go 1v3 and win with it (I run a bunch of non-legendary clones).
Also, fun fact, it literally can't get double strike from discarding a creature, because there are zero double strikers in sultai + colorless!

I woulda used an MDFC commander to truly adhere to the theme. Imagine Journey to the Oracle or Awaken the Blood Avatar as your commander.
Journey to the Oracle is even in simic colors, it would have been really cool to see him go that way

I have an Indominus Rex//Umori companion deck, and it’s one of my favorite decks. It wants to win with either Jarad Golgari Lichlord flinging a Lord of Extinction or Consuming Aberration, or with Lab Man off shenanigans using Mimeo to copy the commander in the graveyard but buffed by something massive that makes me draw out my whole deck (since Indominus only cares about the number of counters he has as he enters, not whether they’re keyword counters specifically. A Mimeo as Indominus buffed by Lord of Extinction draws out your whole deck on ETB most times, lol). Or y’know, just Voltron if no one can deal with the Keyword soup Dino, lol.

Honestly if the all creatures deck had red it could run Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, which would just be busted for this format. All three other players would take 6 damage whenever they cast anything, since they don't have any creatures.
Gideon of the Trials really does give a timeline for when the planeswalker legend rule changed, because Gideon didn't work with the old rule. "Gideon planeswalker" cards didn't exist until the change because planeswalker types weren't a thing until then

Does jigsaw know if a piece is flipped and can it sort piles? Or do all the pieces need to be laid out face up? Easy to layout and separate, but identifying flipped pieces. I think Tammy might win in that challenge, #GoHumans 😅
Honestly surprised Richard went with a colorless artifacts deck. He could've played Urtet Myr Typal and run WUBRG.
They should have made it so richard could not play artifact creatures and only play mono artifacts.Richard just felt like he had 2 card types while everyone else was playing 1 card type. I will say Seth could have played ruric thar the unbowed to be mean or roon of the hidden realms and easily won.

I'm calling it now it's crap that Richard the artifact deck can play artifact creatures but Phil can't play the creature side of his adventure sorceries. Just saying if your gonna make that rule own it and play only straight artifacts.

if you cast tail the suspect, can you choose to put it in the command zone instead of exiling it as it resolves? i don’t think so because the card is only a sorcery on the stack, but is the sorcery still a commander?
