The Pizza Show: Detroit
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 май 2024
- Detroit might be known as the motor city, but it's also the pizza city. Our host Frank Pinello heads west to try out the rectangular pies unique to the city. We start our tour with the classics-Buddy's, Cloverleaf, and Loui's-before heading to some of Detroit’s newer spots like Amar Pizza and Suppino Pizzeria. And it wouldn't be a trip to Detroit without a visit to one of the most infamous pizza names to come out of the Mitten State-Little Caesars. Motown is definitely the dough town.

This series needs to be constantly renewed. Frank is the best, most humble host of any food show i can think of and with Pizza the possibilities are literally endless for places to go etc.
agreed 100%, these shows always keep me entertained being a pizza lover myself.
Totally right. I loved the Naples and Rome show. I started my own little pizza tour in my city, San Francisco. Munchies needs to take the pizza show to SF and visit Tony's in North Beach.
Long live the pizza show.
He went to the headquarters of Little fucking Caesars and enjoyed the hell out of himself. There is no one nicer, more respectful, or more genuine
Lucas from Eater's Dining on a Dime series is also excellent.
He kinda looks like Coyote Peterson
make this guy a damn host of every food show ever, one of the only dudes who dosent make you cringe or rub you the wrong way. just a solid dude.
yeah i agree, he's genuine and chill
He just asks questions. It’s not about him.
Graham Hancucked whats your problem man
Graham Hancucked who pissed in your cereal this morning?
Graham Hancucked oof got me bro, have fun dying alone
Thank you for showcasing my city in a very positive light. Too many times Detroit gets run down by the media. Bravo sir
Only because there are 3 murders for each pizza order
I'm from Michigan originally and now live in Oregon. The people who call Michigan home are some of the most down to earth and real people in the country. I miss the sincerity and humor of the people. I'll be back someday Michigan ❤️
I live in Ohio, Michigan always seems like home when I go, maybe ill join the list of ohio refugees haha
Shout out from Northern Michigan!
Shout out from Warren Michigan and GO LIONS!

I have to agree living in Michigan and my whole life (50) years and traveling around the country on various vacations in my life, I always love coming home after because of the great people here that care and like you said great sense of humor.
This video hits hard man, lived in Detroit my whole childhood. Got a piece of pizza from buddy’s every day after school.
Its Red Sky everyday?
@@CallyWasHereOfficial yea have you seen the lunches high school offers. They have shitty ass meals and terrible pizza and kids eat the pizza every single day at school. I would rather skip lunch and go to buddies after school and eat a good slice of pizza as well if I lived near the restaurant.

Those 5 dollar pies really helped me and my family when I was a teenager. When you only have 20 to eat for a day, those pies are clutch.
💯
ahhhh shit, you guys were doing it wrong. A bag of rice lasts like a week is a few dollars. A dozen eggs is $1.30. Beans are a couple bucks. Oats for oatmeal is nothing. Ya, it's not pizza... but you guys could have spent 20 dollars a WEEK instead of 140 dollars a week. ...and then had the pizza on fridays. (that's not counting for inflation... right now eggs are only $1.30 for a dozen eggs. But ya, I surprise a lot of my friends who think eating dollar jack in the box tacos 3 times a day is the cheapest. It's actually not if you can get 10 dollars together for the week and do some smart shopping.)
Maybe if you stopped eating 20 dollar bills every day, your money would last longer.
Im sorry u was poor...
@@urwholefamilydied Where do get eggs for a $1.30 where I live they are a $1.79 but I totally agree beans and rice are certainly two key ingredients for eating on the cheap of course making your own pizza certainly is a whole lot cheaper than buying one from your local pizzeria/restaurant besides being cheaper with a little practice you can make a better pie than you buy from most places and for less money with better ingredients besides then you are not just stuck with one style of pizza. I make pizza with my family every Saturday night since this Covid crap started and one week it's NYC style, the next Chicago Deep Dish, Neapolitan the next, and Detroit style the following, and Sicilian the week after and when we make NYC and Neapolitan we also make Calzones and or Stromboli's and our version of "Crazy Bread." Any uneaten Calzones and Stromboli's are refrigerated and eaten for lunch or snacks watching the game. We also bake Pita bread and make Falafels and chicken and pork Gyros for a whole lot less money than it costs to buy them from take-out restaurants and better still working to perfect the "street meat" that is sliced of the rotisserie but the chicken and pork I slice up season and grill kicks ass and for less than 15 bucks I can feed a family of 4 and still have a half a dozen pitas to make sandwiches with the next day
Love Frank's interactions with owners. Things like 6:35 where he's like "You gotta eat one with me, can't eat it alone." So humble and down to earth dude. Loves pizza and the stories that people bring. Never change him
I DJ'd at a Detroit loft party on Woodward once and in the middle of my set at 3AM someone banged on the door. We thought it was the cops, but it was one of the neighbors bringing pizza for everyone and joining the party!

Why doesn't Frank Pinello have a Netflix show? Literally the most humble host whose a pizza expert but still takes in other pizza cultures as a student. He makes it seem like he's known his guests all his life. I would binge watch a series if he had more than 2 seasons on Munchies.
Lived in Detroit my entire life. Out of all the shows putting the spotlight on Detroit style pizza the last few years, this is by far the best. Well done Frank! #buddyspizzarules 🍕

I've never seen Detroit look so inviting. Good job Munchies.
CMT Productions 2018 Detroit is very inviting. It just gets a bad rep :(
It's beautiful downtown, it has always had great spots tbh. There is a lot of money going into some of the higher traffic neighborhoods. That brings a lot of good. Sadly, Detroit is huge and many POC live outside those areas and see minimal benefit from the money happening in Midtown and some other neighborhoods. Still, as a guy who has been around the country to dozens of cool cities, Detroit is right up there.
Detroit has great food and people.
Detroit is inviting until you drive 1 block in the wrong direction.
I lived in Detroit for 2 years. Right in downtown, didn't give a fuck about the reputation. It's a gritty and beautiful city.

People can talk shit about Lil Caesars but sometimes it just hits the spot. We cant all be eating like kings everyday.

IDiggPattyMayonnaise perfectly put
IDiggPattyMayonnaise Their deep dish pizza and crazy bread is great. But the reg pizza doesnt taste that great to me.
Little Caesars has fed many struggling families throughout it's history. Defiantly not the best tasting or highest quality pizza but it's certainly earned it's place in pizza history
Congratulations ... You all have Aids
The square pan owes it's roots to the Detroit auto industry. Back in the heyday of assembly lines such pans were used to contain small parts which would be used in the production of vehicles. Workers would often take these pans home where they would find their way into the kitchen as baking pans. Before long local pizza restaurants adopted the habit, and as they say the rest is history. Humble greatness, not unlike the city of its origin. I never thought knowledge of this fact would be useful, gotta love PBS.
Is that what they told you to tell us
Native Detroiter my entire life and I gotta say that Buddy's is the tops here as far as I'm concerned. Also love how he stopped into Lafayette to grab a coney in the beginning; nice shout out to another historic staple of Detroit. This was very well done.
Watching the pizza show + pizza = perfection
I see a lot of hate for Little Ceasers, but when you are drunk and you have $5, it sure tastes pretty damn good.
When you're drunk and have $5 I'm sure wood chips tastes good.
LOL!!!!
I love Little Caesars either when drunk, stoned or even those hungover Sundays
I have an addiction to Little Caesars to the same extent of a crack addict
I could never figure out how people stuff their face when they’re drunk. I cant eat when I’m drunk, I’ll probably puke
Best Detroit pizza documentary i've seen, and I live here.
I love the way food brings people together. And Frank is a cool, humble guy.
deadass watched every episode yesterday and now this, i dont know what I did to deserve this
*DeADAss*
I live in the UK and work for Papa Johns Pizza. Watching this show upsets me a great deal because I feel the way about pizza that Frank and all these historic people do, but in the UK the pizza culture is so vastly different. There's no history or love of the craft, it's just "I'll buy one massive pizza for me, and another for my wife, and if it doesn't arrive in lightning speed I'll hate you forever".
I wish I had the money to start up my own shop. I'd run it just like Best Pizza and it'd be so popular. *sigh* A man can dream.
Broshmosh Make your dreams come true man
Hold on to that dream, dude
keep workin if you have a dream and you are passionate it about it keep doing your thing life at some point will give you what you want if you work hard.

DO IT! Believe in yourself! Take that leap man. Trust me it will be hard but if you keep at it regardless of how hard it gets you will achieve success
Honestly it just shows why frank makes such good pizza. He doesn’t think he’s the best, he always tries to get better and takes everything in respectfully from all the different chefs.

Being a Detroiter, i really didnt think our pizza was that unique. I wasnt even aware that we even had a style of pizza at all! But..... 🤷🏽♂️😂
Me neither. I grew up on Buddy's and Jett's and the last few years I started seeing "Detroit-style" being used to describe pizza w/out having a clue what people were talking about.
I wasn't aware that Detroit had it's own pizza style either but I always heard they had some killer chili dogs. I'm not from Detroit but I've been there many times for hockey & the auto show. From the Lansing area.
That’s exactly what I said LOL

It is basically a Sicilian inspired type pizza. They have the rectangle pizzas, which immigrants brought over to the US.
I think this show introduced me to Detroit pizza years ago and I now consider it the best pizza variation. NY and Chicago can argue who's the best but Detroit, IMO, reigns supreme. Also, this show needs to come back. Frank is such a great host and this series is very light and upbeat. I love it.
The Third Pizza Power, Detroit Style Deep Dish!!! Best of the Best!

Love this series, and Frank is amazing host! He does well at giving history of the places, then allowing those places owners/creators to tell their stories!
I'm in the UK and last year one of our supermarkets started selling "Detroit style" pizzas and I was really interested to know just how "Detroit" they really were. I think this video did well to show that Detroit is an inviting city. I’ve lived in metro Detroit my whole life and I’ve seen Detroit really start to come together in the past 2 decades. The Pizza Show arrived and didn’t have any bias towards the city, only concerning themselves with the pizza and the people, and not the preconceived notions that people have about Detroit. I absolutely loved this video.
🇬🇧✌
Some of these people have no idea how good Frank’s pizza actually is and that he’s a master craftsman
anyone gets the feeling that between episodes Frank is at the Gym trying to work off last episode feast?

what feast? dude takes one bit out of each slice.
Although Frank was very cordial with the Little Caesars folks, you can tell he went wayyy extra (without sacrificing palatability) to ensure they never put out a product associated with him whatsoever. He knew damn well a prosciutto & fresh mozz pie with arugula salad on top would never get picked up.
I peeped that out too.😂😂😂
Why would he not want to be associated with them though? That cheque would have been huge for him
Lmao I didn't even realize that. Pizza looked DANK until he threw that arugula on there.
