Made me miss mine. She passed. And she was the funniest member in the family. Always made you genuinely belly laugh every time we saw her. Then I got to thinking about my kids and how now my mom is the grandma in the family and I hope she holds up to the standard of "grandma" for my children that my grandmother set for us. She really was the best ever. As a kid a ran away a few times due to a shitty step dad, every time I ran away it was to Grandma's house. It just felt like home, it was safe, and it had a great smell. Grandpa was a coffee drinker and cigar smoker. The coffee cigar smell combo is nostalgic for me. Shit... I'm ranting lol.

Best episode yet. Hit every spot I could think of in New Jersey. There's ample more but especially as a north jersey native it was great to catch some acknowledgement; especially as someone who's been making pies for a long time.
This is actually so relatable on another level. My one set of grandparents came from Napoli and still forage for the wild mushrooms in the mountains, and my other set of late grandparents came from Sicily and we always used to call the pizza my Nonna (grandma) used to make the “Nonna Pizza” honestly these recipes bring back a lot of memories for me, and I think that’s why people get so attached to food- it brings back cherished memories!
I just love how much genuine love Frank has for the artistry of pizza. He just has this great desire to learn and grow and loves all different aspects of pizza
14:23 what horse? ...... classic! What can I say about the pizza ..... they all are wonderful, with such a rich history. In my minds eye, I can remember the late 60's/early 70's sitting in the evening on the stoop of an old brick building with friends, and the small pizzeria in the middle of town with the owner spinning the pie dough in the window! Some of the best memories and pizza at the time .... I guess "the best" is relative! This has inspired me to do some touring of the pizza joints here in my area of central Pennsylvania and see what is really out there these days.
Great respect to signore Umberto! His devotion and dedication to his job... hats off! I have seen all episodes but Umberto nails it. A true hard working and very talented man. Thanks for showing that, very inspiring story!
What makes this host awesome is that he is also a pizza maker. He looks so excited to meet other pizza makers which makes me want to press the replay button.
Umberto's of New Hyde Park. Opened the year I was born. Have been going there for so long. Haven't seen Umberto for years. He'll stop in every once in a while.
When I see things like this, I really feel like you guys are blessed. In Korea, most pizzerias use factory dough, so when you order a pizza and eat it in a restaurant, you're eating a pizza that looks like plastic with a perfectly circular crust. There are very few restaurants where the pizzaiola rolls out the dough by hand and makes the pizza on a marble surface. Even in Seoul. I'm so jealous of you guys.
