When I was playing in a rock band in high school, inevitably something would go wrong at a gig and there'd be a short break while someone was fixing something. That's when I'd pull out the mario theme and give the audience a laugh
I love playing Shostakovich's "Second Waltz", Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King (I Dovregubbens Hall)", and the blues standard "Baby, Please Don't Go"
It is always surprising that after all these years I am following you, I still get this urge to pick up my guitar after watching your videos !! Truly inspiring. thanks Paul
Fun fact: The first version of "twinkle twinkle little star" is found in an Italian lute manuscript from 1517 by Vincenzo Capirola. The title is Tientalora, the Melody is more ornamented following renaissance's taste.
Fav melodies to play: Twin Peaks theme, Better Call Saul theme, Game of Thrones theme (i'm sensing a pattern). Spanish Caravan, Golden Brown. That Punjabi MCs riff. Mortal Kombat theme. Pink Panther that you mentioned. In the Hall of the Mountain King.
I started playing guitar at the age of 6 when I had a Spanish guitar in my room with only one string, the first one...and playing alone, I learned the "happy birthday"...since that day, I have been playing for over 26 years...I just recently started uploading videos. Paul, I have to say thank you for inspiring me to record myself at home!
My favorite (lead) melodies to play: 1. A Good Morning Melody (Preisner/Możdżer) 2. A Goodnight Melody (ditto) 3. Für Alina [David Arden interpretation] (Arvo Pärt, the two above were inspired by and draw from it) 4. Remo Floats (Craig Safan) 5. Starless (King Crimson) 6. The Violin Song (Tony MacAlpine) 7. Prząśniczka [Piotr Kaczor interpretation] (Moniuszko) 8. Karczmareczka (Anon) 9. Oczy Szeroko Zamknięte (Łzy) 10. Małe Szczęścia (Robert Janson)
"Greensleeves" is the exact same song as "what child is this". That's awesome. I've been on learning christmas songs kick for a minute now and now I have to dive down the rabbit hole of song origins lol.
Spanish Romance was one of the first songs we worked on back when I learned classical guitar as a child, because it is rather simple but highly effective and just beautiful...
The theme from the '60s American sitcom The Munsters--written by Jack Marshall, cousin of the legendary Christopher Parkening. Marshall got him started playing guitar. Thank you, Jack!
Gaaah! The Ode to Joy melody has an anticipation of one beat on the return to the first theme, and everyone drops it! Please, please, add that little note; it breaks the "squarishness" of the line and adds momentum.
@@nickpearsonuk Of course it does! ruclips.net/video/fEiJwgcawvI/видео.html The note at exactly 46:25 in the basses, and at 50:34 in the vocal line (and every other time we hear this) is what I'm talking about; it lands before the start of the next measure, and is the magic of this melody.
The Mario theme always makes me smile! Music connects us through iconic melodies like James Bond or videos from musicians like Paul Davids, bringing joy and laughter to our lives. Great list for guitarists to learn and enjoy! 🎸🎶
Two of my favorite melodies are The Force Theme from Star Wars and Rohan Theme from The Lord Of The Rings. Both of which I covered on my channel. Such a great and fun topic! One of my favorite things doing on the guitar is playing and arranging melodies and themes. Loved the picks in this video and of course Paul's playing.
In the Hall of the Mountain King, comes to mind... There are so many ways you can play it and so much room for embellishments to never get boring. A few friends and I were noodling on the theme for more than 20 mins without our selected audience not getting bored. Highly recommended!
Wow, your rendition of the Super Mario theme was absolutely phenomenal! I've heard many covers, but this one truly stands out. It's like you've added a whole new layer of magic to it. Thanks for sharing these iconic tunes, they're a treasure trove for any guitarist!
Great video. At the end of the James Bond theme though I think the upper structure outlines a B7#5 alternating between the single note B before going back the E-^7.
There is an old English tune called "Orlando sleepeth" which I have always found really nice to play. Also, "Kemp's jig" - (both best on classical guitar).
That was freaking awesome! Loved it. Especially the Mario Bros! I like playing Deck the Halls melody. I learned it years ago from an Acoustic Guitar magazine.
This, was very nice. Have heard many different versions of these songs over the years. I like the examples you give for several of them better than what I have. Well done video.
I have not touched my guitars in years, school and life kinda got in the way but you make me want to learn to play again. I used to love playing the theme from The X-Files and those old guitar instruments from the 60's like Apache, Walk Don't Run, Sleepwalk, etc.
I actually played Spanish romance on classical guitar for my first ever recital last year! It’s a piece called Romance De Amor, very fun and beautiful piece
I know I am late but just wanted to share my favorite everyday guitar parts and melodies that I learned early on that feel almost as universal as what you've shown in the video. They are as follows: Dust in the Wind, The Godfather theme, Yankee Doodle, Silent Night, Scarborough Fair, and the Jurassic Park Theme.
An amazing selection of classic tunes, thank you for another amazing video. My favourite is a tune called Drag Racer, it's been used as the theme for the BBC snooker coverage for as long as I can remember. It's so fun to play. That an the theme from Joe 90.
I got interested in guitar in 2000 playing FF9. I heard "Rose Of May" and asked my brother to play it, and he couldnt do it. Now I can play it, only with tabs on screen, but it makes me happy
I wish your lessons were in Turkish or had Turkish subtitles, I would join your course without hesitation. I watched most of your videos on RUclips with Turkish subtitles, they are really nice and it is really nice that you explain good topics in a clear and understandable way, thank you very much.
The Mario theme put the widest smile on my face in a long time. Thanks for this amazing video Paul. I have been away from my guitar for 10 months now and I can't afford a new one yet. But this video gave me the great feels ❤️
Along the lines of Ode to Joy, I frequently find myself falling into “simple gifts” and “canon in D” when noodling. Simple but irresistible diatonic melodies.
Fingerstyle tunes I play when trying to impress (usually imagined) audience: Postman Pat (opening theme), Super Mario Bros (but a bit different way than presented), Super Mario Land - Overworld Theme, Girl From Ipanema, Love of my life (Queen), Sawyer's Tune (from Transport Tycoon soundtrack), Silent Night (when it's Christmas), Have You Ever Seen The Rain (CCR).
Paul, I’ve been diving into your videos. It’s wonderful to see a fellow Dutchie doing so well in this guitar world. Props jonge! If I could have one request, could you talk about the Ox Box? I (and I’m sure many others) would love your take on it’s attenuation and cab simulation qualities. I’m thinking of saving up for one, but I need some more convincing..it’s not cheap!
Probably a boring video to make but maybe one of the most inspiring videos in a while. These are the tunes that we often forget make the guitar so fun again. Bravo from 🌻Kansas
Ok, I HAVE to try this version of Happy Birthday. For lead guitar, I love playing Silent Night, Besame Mucho, Walk Don't Run(The Ventures), Apache and Mother of Mine, among others. Not as beautifully as you, Paul, but I have fun nonetheless. For rhythm guitar, I try to learn whatever song catches my fancy at the time. Throughout the last 2 years, I've learned the rhythm accompaniments of about 30-40 songs of a single artist group I like, from the tabs of a channel. They are mostly easy and simple, but have been a ton of fun to play, and single-handedly re-ignited my love for playing the guitar
Thanks for the suggestions. I’m definitely gonna have to go pick up Spanish Romance; such a beautiful piece that I never considered learning. Gonna have to keep implementing more chords into my progressions too. Feels like a constant struggle between having complex enough rhythms and properly filling out the melodies with chords. All of these sounded pretty great the way you presented them. 👍
I enjoy playing Broken by Seether as there's some nice fingerstyle on D chord in the end of each phrase in verse. And Late Goodbye by Poets of the Fall has sweet chromatic down movement in intro. But recently I started playing some folk rock in Russian (doubt anyone from non-Russian speaking countries knows the band) and I've noticed some constant songwriting techniques giving the band its unique sound: major IV chord in minor while building up tention, constant using of VI-VII-I and I-VI-VII-III-VII-VI-VII-I progressions in choruses and 1 tone or sometimes 2.5 tones modulation in culmination. Finding patterns is fun.
That Mario theme was FIRE 🔥
not quite, people play it with the bass line
Should be #1! Lol
Ye I want the tabs for that sucker
When I was playing in a rock band in high school, inevitably something would go wrong at a gig and there'd be a short break while someone was fixing something. That's when I'd pull out the mario theme and give the audience a laugh
Shh! Quiet! You'll get sued!
that is amazing haha
I like the Jeopardy theme lol
All high school bands did it. It was super cliche
If that happened to me, I’d feel obligated to include the little tune that plays when you lose a life.
I love how the James Bond theme was at number 007 in your list!
Paul Davids doing his own thing and dropping beautiful, delicate videos every few weeks is such a delight
Truly inspiring. thanks Paul
Pink Panther riff is so killer !

What acoustic guitar are you using in the video?
I work in church production and have to say-your lighting, cameras, audio, etc are beautiful
I work in adult film production and have to agree

Paul, your playing has reached a whole new level, and your guitars are to .. die for.
Bach minuet in g, and wildwood flower are 2 melodies I can’t stop playing on guitar.
Thanks for another great video!
1:04 that’s the Vsauce chord
Jaaaaa
LOL,
IT IS!!!!🎉❤😂😊😮
Omg, and I was wondering where do I know this chord from...thank you! 🙌
is it actually? I don't hear the resemblance😅
Sounds very similar, but not quite the same, i think the vsauce sound is a bit less dissonant
Spanish Romance was one of the first songs we worked on back when I learned classical guitar as a child, because it is rather simple but highly effective and just beautiful...
Same here, and still one of my go to warm tunes nearly 40 years later!
I'll always be impressed by your repertoire, man... You've mastered so many songs and arrangements, it's impressive! Well done
The theme from the '60s American sitcom The Munsters--written by Jack Marshall, cousin of the legendary Christopher Parkening. Marshall got him started playing guitar. Thank you, Jack!
That was the one my guitar player and drummer would break out when I was trying to tune
So good fall out boy sampled it in uma thurman

It always blows my mind how epically iconic the Super Mario theme is. So cool
Amazing vid. Fun to play all that stuff. A fun one i play sometimes is the very easy "Still D.R.E". Nostalgic from GTA San Andreas.
The Mario theme always makes me smile! Music connects us through iconic melodies like James Bond or videos from musicians like Paul Davids, bringing joy and laughter to our lives. Great list for guitarists to learn and enjoy! 🎸🎶
Ode to Joy is such a good piece. That little finger picking version was sweet, Paul clearly thought so while playing it.
Amazing. I'm watching for the first time this TOP 10 ICONIC MELODIES...which starts with "happy birthday"...and it's my birthday today. THANK YOU

It's 00.49 am, sitting on the toilet with Sprühschiss and watching you playing songs i already played. But it's always satisfying to wazch you.
Amazing Grace might be one of my favorites! So iconic and joyful
Thanks Paul. Your left hand, right hand, your mind, coordination and blending is magical...
Apache, Ghost riders in the sky and The Wildwood Flower. My Top 3 favourites.
