thank you for having me on this - alongside these exceptional players, brother! much love! 22:50 ◡̈
Thanks for blessing us with your solo 😪 haha Cheers!
Mateus never ever disappoints
I was wondering whether you were using plugins or real amps in your channel as well! Thanks for the info!
Mateus, você é um guitarrista excepcional. Que fraseado incrível!!!! A propósito, eu estava lá na platéia em São Paulo quando Nuno bettencourt te chamou para participar junto a ele em Get the funk out!!!! Aquilo foi memorável! Obrigado por isso!
mateus 😌
I really appreciate you having me on this Paul! In such epic company! Thank you! 🙏❤️
Really held your own, lovely playing
Fantastic work, Rabea. Love the way you didn't steal the show but accentuated what matters most - the structure of the music.
Some great dynamics, melody and tone in your solo Bea. I'll try to steal some of it. :-) Thank you!
You nailed it mate!!
Awesome playing as always, Rabea! Love your style and tone!
I dont know what it is, but Julia's solo got me in the feels man...Something about the simplicity and the tone of it. Got me tearing up here.
Absolutely loved that! The octave and 6ths runs were amazing, the relaxing closure with those tapped harmonics too! So simple, no fast or scale runs, just the beauty of the melody
Had the exact same feeling! Was so impressed with everyone thinking nothing can top that and then she came on and all of a sudden I had tears in my eyes. Just something about the gentleness and feel, went straight to the heart
Rabea’s Solo is the Studio Recording
Martin’s Solo is the Live Recording
Mateus’s Solo is the Live Recording 25 years later at the reunion concert.
real
Paul, it's an honour to have been featured in a video with all of these absolute KILLERS! Thank you for having me on the track.
You KILLED it brother! Taking some notes here ;-)
Loved your solo, mate!!
@@dkijc Thank you!
Great stuff Lad! 👏
Dude! You're impressive! Those volume swelling using a bolt-on guitar?! That's some great sustain on that strat!
Can't believe I'm part of this 💛Thanks to all and thanks again for having me Paul 🙏 truly an honor to be among all those legends 🙏🙏🙏
Loved your solo Julia, it's my honor having you :)
Julia - huge fan - please keep pushing the envelope for us mere mortals!
Your take was so good, definitely one of my favorites here!
Great Job!
LOVED your solo! Also, very interesting to hear that you sang over the progression to come up with ideas. Fan!
Mateus bending and sliding was insane how smooth he can make it. But Jens carrying out his motif through non diatonic change really stuck with me. Everyone else was sustaining notes at that high point like it was a rule you had to. Everything was great but Jens line is now haunting me in the best way possible
Good observation.
That's what Mateus was refering to when he said the first part sounded like a cliché: subconciously everybody had some Stairway to Heaven-ish references, except for the 2 guys you mentioned: Mateus, who muscled his way out of the conventional references (and imo kinda got too carried away at times 😅) and Jens, who, being a jazz guitarist, is unshackled by the conventions the track carries.
Having said that, I still found some high quality moments throughout all the performances, like Martin's resourcefulness or Julia's gorgeous feel.
Jens is goated🔥🔥🔥 but yeah Mateus never cease to impress. What a solo
All such fantastic solos but, .......... Julia's solo actually made my eyes begin to well up and a lump moved from my heart to my throat. So sweet it was.
Thanks so much Paul for having me. Everyone sounds so Ruling!
Josh you killed it man as usual 🙏
The attitude you put into each note is amazing. Awesome solo. Hope you come to Denmark one day.
Damn that was amazing
All fantastic, but you ruled this one Josh! 🎸🔥👊😎
Those first two notes set the scene for a beautiful story 🔥 ❤
Pleasure to be amongst some of my absolute faves. Thanks for having me, Paul! ❤
Thank you fretboard wizard, amazing solo... still catching my breath 😅
Very much enjoyed your solo!!! Such a wizardry
I’d give the 🏆 to you and maybe Josh as runner up.
Martin, amazing piece!!
Wow, amazing solo. Thank you!
martin miller is my favorite, insanely musically and melodic. on top of it amazing feel and technique. a complete package.
I love Jens’s understanding for form and musical structure. While all others clearly articulated part A and B (B=when the song slows down) Jens made something I would call a “lead-in”. In classical music there is a similar idea to connect antecedent with the consequent. The ending Motiv of the antecedent in measure 5 is the beginning Motiv of the consequent. It’s called elision. Also I wanna mention Paul’s feeling for short repeating cool sequences, a pleasure to listen to. And Julia’s smooth alternating fingerpicking was great to observe. It was a great idea to make a collaboration like this Paul. With all these great guitarists and their different approach gives us an insight to analytical thinking. Great job, keep on going.
Thank you for letting me be a part of the video. hope I didn't ruin anything! 😁
It was an honor having you on Jens!
LOL!!! Trying to fit the Ibanez into the bin - and the face you were making!!! That was brilliant!! Your playing was so smooth man!! Much respect!! ♥
@@Sammywhat Thank you 🙂
Your solo was brilliant! Loved it
Amazing solo, Jens! Thanks for the music.
So proud to take part in this INCREDIBLE lineup! Thanks Paul!
Fantastic solo man.
Thanks for being here! You crushed it my friend!
Loved yours, sir. Fan!
I honestly loved your take the most, It felt so unique and alive
Your solo was absolutely awesome! What tone!
Marty sounded like the perfect session player. best approach not trying to show off. making the track shine not overtaking the natural melody that one might hear the chords progress
Man, everyone’s solos were so good. Each player had their own unique style. In my opinion each of their solos displayed exactly why they’re famous on RUclips. Thank you so much for this video.
We all have learned a song or two from Marty, what a legend
Not if I can avoid it, lmao, I always found him a little annoying. He's doing god's work though, so a legend to be sure.
@@osmium7738I usually see if Carl Brown (guitarlessons365) has one first but Marty is definitely one of my go-tos. I like his humor and laid back approach; just a genuine joy for music.
I’m definitely grateful to anyone fulfilling that much needed space. These guys inspired me to work on my own ear training.
….or every single guitar lesson😂
@@doofinator4285 Same! Carl is the goat, imo. And yeah, both great guys doing great work.
True that.
Jaw absolutely dropped during Mateus’ solo 😮 great job to all!!
Yeah he's Great
Couldn't agree more. That was at a level that I know I will never attain, and that's okay. I feel privileged to get to witness it.
Right!? Sheesh 😅
Nah, just note vomiting. Was a show-off
Sometime around we should have a subscriber collection i think it would be awsome
Rabea, what a start. His style has so much soul !
Josh smith so smoothly with his phrasing and note choices also his sound got the most vintage tone, always a pleasure to hear u Josh !
Let’s give Marty some love!!! Without his great pentatonic videos I would never have believed I could even play a solo!!
His was the most boring of all of them!
@@officialWWMsome people look for feel and others for technique… He was the only one who consistently left breathing room between phrases. Something guitarists (including me) can have a hard time with is pacing ourselves. It’s rarely talked about but there’s a lot to be said for restraint. Gotta respect his willingness to hold back
@@officialWWM To you.
@@JonnyDWise I agree with restraint and timing but I’ve always found his playing boring and predictable.
@@officialWWMI feel like he’s great at making great guitarists, if you know what I mean 😂
Mateus solo, wow. Really the hands of a virtuoso, so effortless. And Julia, so sweet and dreamy, loved it.
Absolutely agree. Asato's was really flawless. Julia with so much feeling. Third for me is Josh Smith - just because he surprised me. Thought he'd never could pull this off, but he did a really good job.
My thoughts exactly
My choice, exactly the same, exactly for the same reason! 🙂
Have you heard Drown - Polyphia? Fts Mateus Asato, so great, amazing player.
listen to the beautiful power of Hindu's God tune on Guitar on #Mekinamguitarist
Joeys slide solo was the one for me… the notes, structure, feels … love it
I loved the approach that Ross had with the volume knobs, and the smoothness on Paul´s solo 👏
Ross' tone was great too
How is nobody talking about Josh´s solo? It hit straight to the hearth. So much emotion. It felt the most musical and fitting for a solo because it's memorable. He created a hook, which makes it feel like something part of a bigger picture.
The "hearth" is hotter than the heart! Josh killed it.
And it was the only solo with balls. He hits it like a real Frederick Zoller
Superb!
Spot on❤
Josh Smith is the greatest blues player on this blessed earth !
Josh rules. He plays like the bluesmen of the past century. Soul in every note. Pure expressiveness. It feels like he's singing.
I skipped straight to his - It was fantastic!
i knew it would be great when he said he just plays without thinking. always the best solos
He stood out for me as someone who creates music for a living.
I know right? There was quite some Freddie King there. And i loved his use of pauses.
Yep, he’s on another level. A guitarists guitarist. He’s playing 12-54 strings too! Ouch!
All solos were lovely but Julia Lange's sounded like the track was made just for it. It was special 💟
Joey's solo quite literally brought me to tears...a crying guitar is so much different than any other sound...i'm a rocker so i also enjoyed Kfir's solo so much but the emotions and feelings that Joey left on me is out of this world..I don't think any solo has ever made touched my emotions the way that did...what a great line up of artists
If you haven't already, check out Derek Trucks (Tedeschi Trucks Band). Similar vibe...
Same for me. I almost teared up. Just an incredible musician. I never had a music hit me so hard like this one. MY GOSH. Joey is a on a whole different level.
Mateus’ solo was absolutely nuts. Just about the best bends and vibrato I’ve ever heard
Listened to Mateus' solo like 7 times. That's all I have to say. Tears in my eyes.
Me too, kept on rewinding 😅😅
I enjoyed Marty's solo the most because I felt it fit the atmosphere of the backing track best. The chord progression was very Beatles-esque, and Marty's playing sounded like a '60s Clapton coming into the studio to drop a solo for the group.
Totally inlove with Martin Miller's solo. Enjoyed every moment of it. :)
rabea's solo was so soulful and with those tasteful licks here and there was just amazing, absolutely worth mentioning
Rabea's solo has the best proportion towards the track emotionally and technically. it was best fit and not exaggerated. no 1 for this one!
erkan oğur üstad gelse perdesizle fena solo atardı tam koma vurmalık akor geçişleri var
Agreed. His was top, the next was great, and then the rest kind of trailed off for me. They were good, but we were spoiled with the first couple. The standout on the back-end was Julia's. So smooth and clean and melodic.
It was fabulous!
fit the best, just edged julia out for me
No one's talking about Rabea's solo. OMG it was absolutely beautiful. I can see people just like distortion and fast playing. This man Rabea absolutely crushed me with his solo.
Agreed, Rabea and Martin's solos are underappreciated here.
Bea always finds the right notes to play somehow. His tone is excellent, and the way he works towards/around the target notes is creative and not in a way you hear often.
@@sinatra222 Absolutely agree..!! 👍
@@sinatra222 They were both my favorite. Martin is an absolute wizard on the fretboard man.
It was top 3 to my ears.
Julia has something very special.. those melodic double stops gave goosebumps . And the note she landed on at the end 😆!! i feel like she just gets me
also the parallel ascending low melody / high melody. was very unique I am going to copy that for sure
Mateus Asato is my favorite guitarist but Paul, you BLEW ME AWAY with your solo, man. I mean I always knew you were a great player but damn, that was unreal! Your solo was my favorite!
Ross' solo was insane..... definitely the one that made me most emotional, amazing!!
Absolutely perfect. And so organic sounding. I think his plan of walking around with the track in his ears is a very good one. Just let it seep in to the unconscious, and then leave the ego aside and play what comes naturally.
All so so awesome but Ross my favourite too
One of the more dynamic for such a short piece. Gave me chills when he went from hard to soft. Gets me everytime.
They're all brilliant but Ross's solo is incredible. I must listen again.
That felt like a 60 year journey of guitar soloing! No winners, no losers, every one of them epic.
Truth !
Everyone hit it out of the park, but Josh and Jens really spoke to me.
Omg julia 100%❤❤❤ perfect sounding for just a clean sounds
Julia's solo made the song such a dreamy soundscape.
Her solo felt the most like there was a full song with lyrics and singing that went with this track. It’s the one I could imagine being on actual song track.
I would say Josh’s second.
Martin’s solo literally made me say “I’ve got to get better, dude.” Never heard him. He’s a straight monster.
Oh, you have to check out the medley performances on his page... The Toto and Queen medley are PHENOMENAL...
He have a few fusion ballad song with Tim Quayle that similar to this, check it out!
I feel you bruh.. same here
my favorite player as for today, his phrases is somthing else
Martin has an awesome feel for rhythm and harmony, and he kicks out some awesome phrases here, but I always feel like his solos would sound better if they had half the number of notes. 😁
The solo of Josh was mind-boggling. The guitar cried, goosebumps!
Paul, Julia and Mateus..❤❤❤❤
Man, Mateus has such a unique style and flow, i can‘t even describe it. It‘s just something special that sets his solo apart from everything else.
real damn i thought i was just being biased
He is a player extraordinaire!
Yep, there’s him and everyone else for me…
Everyone did their thing, but imo he really stood out in terms of having his own “sound/style” if you know what I mean
@@andremartin4795 DUUUDE SAME HERE. I thought I was being biased with how I see the solos. I still probably am a little bit, but Mateus' solo is different.
Rabea makes me feel driven to want to improve my playing like no one since Satriani when I was much younger. Bea pulls so much feeling out of his slower/ambient playing, it’s ridiculous. 💛👍
And then I got to Mateus’ solo - 🤯. Paul’s reaction says it all. 😂💛
Just saw Satch a few months ago on his new tour. Has some really great new music. Blue Foot Groovy is a fantastic tune.
@@DaveDonarskiit's astounding how Rabea can do this, and face-melting shred, and crushing riffing that sounds like a building collapsing...
Rabea impressed me!
@@IvorThomas are you familiar with his more usual metal stuff?
Damn you Paul. My goal was not to have tears run down my face. Mission failed, crying my eyes out. This and the one where you had Chris Buck, sick and wrong. So emotional. Love the Beatles'ish "something in the way" progression. You are my favorite youtube guitar personality. Keep it up sir. Come to Nashville
Men Jens transitioning was mad🔥. Hats off matheus, that solo @ 23:27 was breathe taking
Mateus was brilliant. Ross killed it and Julia's was the most pure. Yours was the most Beatlesque!
Mateus and Julia are a different breed. So smooth, so unique.
Superb work from everybody. Julia invented and played something I have never heared or witnessed. Like tango lines, with absolute grace of phrasing and melodic ideas.
This just blew me away. Each player I heard, I thought, that was the best, and then came the next and - same feeling. At the end, each one had made me cry out in awe and joy. This is what guitar-playing is all about. Thanks, Paul, for having orchestrated this magnificent collection of purely magical solos. 🤗
Julia's solo was so good man. You can tell that she's a classical guitarist but it counterintuitively worked so well with the track
Martin Miller’s solo was absolutely beautiful. I have nothing else to say about it
Agreed... 🥇
🔥🔥🔥
with all due respect for me it was trying to pack as many notes as possible, did not let the guitar "breathe"
@@CrisCraig that’s cool, and that’s your opinion. Totally fine
I do. Even though I love his solo, to me he was using this particular rhythmic figure a bit too much.
Loved how each player had their own beautiful and unique style. All I can say is everyone was awesome.
Love these! My goal is to be in Paul's 2024 version of this haha 🤞
Ross nailed it for me. Less is so much more, especially for a melodic track like this.
I was like: "Ross's solo is the clear winner here" Then Mateus popped up on the screen. Wow. Just wow. Incredible touch and feel, the emotional highs some of those bends and phrases reach are phenomenal. 10/10
I think it may have been a 10-way tie for first.
My top three favs were Paul, Mateus, and Kfir. Paul's was just great, Mateus was awesome, and kind of sounded like hendrix, and Kfir was probably the best. That bend was insane, the tone was spot on, and the delay was amazing. I also have to mention the tremolo picking.
IDK, for me, Mateus's solo felt a bit overdone. Ross got everything without feeling jampacked. But that's just my opinion. We are cork-sniffing a bit.
Josh's solo man.. Makes me fall in love with playing the guitar again
Being Brazilian, it would be easy to say Mateus was my favorite, but honestly, there's no favorite. All of them played incredibly good solos that could be in eternal hits. ❤
O terceiro botou pra fuder
Mateus é absurdo!
I share exactly the same ideia as you!
I'm not Brazilian.. Mateus KILLED it!!...
Ross killed it absolutely! Soo soothing and flowing!
Rabea killing it as usual... My guy... Mateus... Didn't think anyone else could make me teary eyed from a guitar solo. Absolutely incredible. Speechless even after 7 times watching it through.
Everyone was great. Julia’s track was so clean and sweet. Mateo’s had chops and some amazing harmony! All soul solos… stay blessed.
Ross killed it. Such a great player. 😎
Great to see Jens Larsen in there! Such a great musician, and his channel is a tremendous resource :)
Ah man, I enjoy his playing! Glad to see he got in on this!
His sense of humor really added something, I laughed out loud
Jens has such a beautiful tone and feel.
Wow, all of these are top notch, it's almost impossible to pick a fav....
Almost (Jens Larsen & Julia Lange)
Fantastic improvs by some stellar talent! I think Julia Lange was a nice surprise… so gentle and open.
Great video! Thanks to all who took the time to share their wonderful talent and thanks, Paul, for making it happen!
Jens's transition at 11:09 was so sick
Right switching from A to Am felt like we were soaring at the highest point possible then floated back down to earth with the best feeling ever
the absolute best of the lot for me. No contest.
Yes! To me too, so much different from the approach of a blues/rock player, totally unexpected, I absolutely agree with you
Mateus is just on a totally different level. The way he traverses the fretboard, and plays phrases is just immaculate.
Julia is incredible. Just wow.
Martin's melody, Paul's smoothness, Julia's emotion and Mateus's fingertips . . Just wow! I've always loved these collaborations
martins melody its so bored, like 90' videogame
Had great phrasing. Nice accurate bends
Martin is the best one, IMHO
This is so much fun. I watched twice. I like Jens the best, his classic style of wooowing you. Julia, never heard, she gets the most beautiful solo, inside and out, it’s very moving and emotional. Everyone was such fun. I learned so much as well. Thank you Paul.
A lot of great playing but Ross Campbell was my favorite. It felt the most soulful and emotion filled.
rabeas solo just hits the spot and all other guys did so well
that solo was so fucking amazing
I have listened to Julia's solo more than ten times. I am now considering making it my phone ringtone. That's how much it gets to me.
It's all about love. Thank you so much for this amazing show guys ... So lovely !!!
That Ross's solo is incredible, with micro changes it's just wow ! i don't have any words...
Weird combination of Santana, Hendrix and Frusciante (especially on “not the one” from Unlimited Love)
It sounded do hauntingly beautiful!
Julia was my favourite. I felt the backing track wasn't the type to play fancy riffs. She added a beautiful soft touch without the guitar being driven hard. I wish I could play like her. That was amazing
Simp
I Agree 💯 Her's and Martin Miller's were my favourite
I agree
Same. I appreciate technical displays. But her performance was just beautiful. I could listen to that all day.
Hers was the only solo I felt compelled to 'rewind' and listen to again. Beautiful.
You guys are out of this world. Seriously, all of you! Thanks for doing this!
Paul, you've come a long way as a player. Your style has become more unique and defined. Now I can pick you out as easily as pretty much anybody. You should be thrilled at what you've accomplished. Keep up the good work Brother!
Oh wow, Julia. If notes were made of gentle raindrops filled with love, that's how her solo sounded like. I loved every single one of the guitarists! Subscribed to all of them!
Josh Smith just blew my mind. Right in the feels.
yes 10000 people waved lighters with Josh, I literally cried
Thanks Paul for these phantastic players!
That‘s why we all love guitar music!👏👏👏👍👍👍
Man, what a great video. Everyone’s nailed it! Amazing. Josh’s solo deserves an official release, so freaking awesome, comes from the soul.
That call and response part in Julia's solo was a real standout moment for me. I really thought you would comment on it actually.
Well done everyone!
Which moment
@@Lachy314 at 18:40
Yeah. I felt the same way 👏
Josh is a living legend. All players are real great, but I love how Josh sounds on this track.
Mad respect Paul bringing us the amazing guitarists and amazing tunes you are helping to bring back guitars, amazing work my brother
I’m gonna be honest. Before this video I had never heard of Jens. But his playing struck my soul, it was absolutely magical
Rabea never disappoints...Joey's in a class by himself! Martin would totally make Brian May proud, Paul's solo shows just how far he's come as a world class guitarist in the past years! Jens is a freakin' riot!! "And I'm not even playing that amp!" Classic!! Josh's tone is magical! Then Ross comes up with an equally glorious tone! TASTY!!! Julia - beautiful as always! Marty nailed Mr. George Harrison's tone and phrasing. Totally retro. Mateus! What a blessing that dude is!! Kfir - who couldn't play with that sound for hours?? This was another great collaboration, Paul!! Inspirational!
Julia Lange made me cry.
Sounded like a piano solo on a guitar. Really beautiful 😮
Everyone here played amazing but man mateus 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Watched it over and over again. Everyone gave their best. Ultimately, Ross and Julia really gave me the vibes. This is what the track actually wanted, for me, I believe.
I really enjoyed Josh Smith and Ross Campbell's solo's on this. They flowed so good with the track and sounded spontaneous.
I love how they were back to back - Josh who took 2 takes and then improved, and Ross who put in a ton of effort to compose something beautiful
Love how you have Josh and Ross back to back - Josh who took 2 takes and completely improved, and Ross who put in a ton of effort to compose something beautiful
What was nearned from this video is the infinite joy of music , here the artist has created , no boundarys , totally an open expression, this video brought me to tears, as I found the infinite expression of music, my eyes and ears are opened more than they ever have been, you have struck a big chord
Absolutely agree.
I can't watch too much of these, the play over on your melody is too much for the emotions, a grown man shouldn't shed tears so easily, what a demonstration of the beauty inside each musician, so different so equal. A brilliant video. Thank you.❤
I got to give it to Ross Campbell on this one. He showed the full range of dexterity and creativity while still making it dance within the track. Those volume swelled bends hit you right in the feels. At least they do for me. The A major lick was also my favorite of the bunch. Also loved the jazz licks on Jens Larsen's track. The warm tone just worked well with them.
Agree, it fit perfectly.
The „feeling“ award goes … definitely… to Mr Campbell.
No frills, no showing off, just a deep dive into emotions😍. Love it
He is clearly the winner
Le solo de Marty paraît simple mais est tellement efficace. Le genre de solo qui reste dans votre tête toute la journée.
MAN THATS TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL! THEY WERE ALL FANTASTIC,AND CREATIVE IN THIER OWN WAYS,OUTSTANDING GENTLEMEN,GOOD ON YOU ALL..IM IMPRESSED WITH MELODIC PHRASING,MIXING STYLES.JUST TOO MUCH!
Never heard Julia play before. She killed it in my opinion
Absolutely!!!
I agree she was my choice. A little Ted Greene on the end.
