yes, I loved how he was subtly laying back in a swing manner, but it felt great over this. He also nodded to the most "jazz-like" language of all the pianists. Excellent.
Big fan of Charles and Nahre….this was a little more in Charles lane. This was a tough backing track. I’m going to attempt this myself after the video..I actually attach a midi keyboard right to my iPad and play along with video…very convenient for this..I am using ravenscroft for sound. Sanga was so charming I see her thumbnails and I have watched a couple of videos but I was very impressed with her personality and strategy..I will be watching more of her in the future.
Well done Aimee! The Floyd Cramer-style use of the leading tones is one of my favorite piano techniques as it almost gives the illusion that the notes are bending the way that they can on some instruments.
I loved Charles rendition, so soulful, and very tasteful use of space and language in general. My favorite part though was how organic it was, especially with how it kept building dynamically throughout the backing track.
Sangah's solo gave me chills. So good. I thought it was interesting how everyone went for something more laid back and Sangah opted for something a lot bigger and more aggressive. Really made it stand out.
Tbh I liked hers the least. She was very infront of the beat which I didn‘t feel at all. Also for me there was no real meat if you will. A lot of pentatonic playing that sounded a bit like searching if it fits instead if knowing. In contrast when Aimee Nolte plays if feels so secure and in control of every aspect of the playing.

I've been following Charles and Nahre for awhile and they didn't disappoint. Sangah Noona is new to me, and I think she really had the most fun and it came through with the music too. What a great concept for a video! Love this.
Sangah Noona is fantastic, i've been subbed to her for a while now. She never disappoints. My favorite cover of hers is probably "When I Fall In love/Unforgettable". Just wonderful.
Jeff Schneider had best superb solo language. From the tone, rythm, articulation and scales all to the phrasing & structure. Wish I have some of that spiciness. My vote goes to Jeff! 👏👏
Tough to choose between Jeff and Charles, but my vote is for Jeff. He developed his solo very well, from the build-up until the run and two-hand phrasing, everything is well calculated.
Fully agree! I think all of the performances were great, but for me Noona was a cut above. And I'm not sure why, but all 3 of the guys had a similar feel to me (my mind is weird, so they all made me think Billy Joel for some odd reason), while the women all felt a bit more unique in their interpretations.
eh, theory teaches you certain things work with certain chord progressions, and the genre of the song also corrals you. you notice the same thing in paul david's video using the same track. the guitarists mostly do about the same thing, too.
Yeah I was thinking it before she did it "Why not go a bit over the top on this? Why so safe?" A breath of fresh air. I don't think it was too much at all. That said, Charles brought some interesting moves too, imho.
IMO Sangah is a bit of a show off if I must say so myself. She makes the solo sound way more complex than it even needs to be, and is hard for someone’s mind to comprehend at once.
Impressive how Charles, Jeff, Aimee, Sangah managed to put so much emotion into their improvisation whilst also sounding very different from each other. Also, props to Nareh who used to say that she's only trained as a classical pianist and not comfortable at all doing any kind of improvisation, she's come a long way.
Wow; I guess we should all be as “uncomfortable with any kind of improvisation” as Nahre now shows that she is here. And the mad contrast ‘tween Sangah’s rabid-dog version and David’s oh-so-chill one was kinda fun!
Big fan of Nahre, skills and taste for miles, but especially love her inquisitive nature and her willingness to go outside of her comfort zone publicly.
What an incredible RUclips star studded lineup! I'm familiar with all of them and I was made pretty excited when Sangah Noona said that you'd be premiering this today! I guessed pretty accurately who was going to be on the lineup! Awesome work! I'd love to see more of these!
You should definitely listen to her, she's a fascinating pianist. She streams live on RUclips for a few hours every weekend, and she's absolutely free in her playing. And her technique and expression is incredible.
I swear, I never thought I'd sub to a piano channel based on a solo, but Sangah's solo did it. Killer. Yours was perhaps the best one David, loved how much you were able to do without sounding too over the top. Amazing.
Sangah Noona improv was wonderful: she’s really a great pianist and the improv queen! 🎶👸🏻 👏👏👏🔝Love however all improvisations: many talented pianists here! Charle’s improv was so beautiful 👏👏👏
Jeff's phrasing and time feel is superb! Also all of melodic ideas just fit so well. Loved his Am-run! Definitely my favourite! But also a big compliment to Nahre. I've been following you for years. You've developed such a great improvisation talent over time!
@@M1st3rB3nnI think the whole sequence sounded a little like some standard laid-back-jazz sequence (except for the surprise A major in there - not complaining). So hearing "Hello" - yes I know what you mean.
Each improviser’s stellar ability to create unique and original musical ideas is ohmazing. However, Sangah’s interesting rhythmic pattern and style effectively fits the backing tracks chord progressions that engages and captivates listeners. My two cents.👍😍
Really really interesting to see all these peoples' solos and have them explain how and why they did what they did. My favorite was Charles Cornell's. I think he used really smart harmony while still giving the listener (and other musicians) a strong idea of what the chords are and where he was in the tune.

I liked them all, but Charles’ was beautiful, and Nahre’s was also very nice. Sangha gets extra points for her beautiful golden retriever listening intently, as well as a great interpretation. Truly, all of you are so terrific. Just great, everyone.
So great to see all of my favorite RUclips piano stars in one video. It also was a perfect moment for a collab. A few years ago we had many, then it died out, so it was very refreshing and bringing back some memories. I loved all improvisations. Sangah made the show but I enjoyed the others just as much. The different approaches made it the best RUclips piano video of the year for me.👍
I agree. With her improv, you can make an important point - it's about more than the notes. Her body language subconciously helped me enjoy her solo more - you could tell she was having fun, and taking us along for the ride. Also - most everyone played electronic keyboards, and I appreciated and admired all of them - nothing wrong with any. But I was trying to figure out why Sangah's performance felt so much BIGGER - just volume? I don't think so. From her example, I think you can see that a good real (grand) piano does add something to the feel of a piece, again above and beyond the notes that are played.
Sangah and David were my favorites. I felt like their versions meshed the best with the track. Note choices, dynamics, felt more weaved into the track, rather than just sitting on top
Thanks for putting this together, David. I enjoyed every second of the video. Each participant delivered something that showed a piece of their own musical soul. Thanks to Charles, Nahre, Jeff, Aimee, Sangah and yourself... for creating this exceptional video. I've been a huge fan of Sangah and Aimee for a long time... and I loved getting to see what they came up with for this project. But it was also tremendous fun to meet the others in this video - and see what they created. BRAVO to everyone involved. Standing ovation from me for each one of you.
I really enjoyed the energy of the lassie with the golden lab, 2nd too last. Although the progression was quite "sad" in feel she brought an up lifting energy to her rendition.
Nahre found a way to make the chords move around what she was playing. It really calmed all the motion in the chord progression down. By far my favorite.
How great is this. The different approaches were all fantastic. Sangah was on FIRE. Put her whole body into it. Absolutely loved it. Wow. Jeff had a great groove as well.
This was an excellent idea....all these brilliant pianists did well. I have to say, though, I think Sangah Noona stood out with her normal fire and personality. Thanks for doing this, David! 😎👍
I gotta say. I loved everyones but yours was my favorite. Very musical while also being very interesting to my ear. Love seeing you play more stuff. Every time you show a bit of a piece you've written at the end of videos, i never want it to stop!
Loved seeing the different personalities and approaches coming through in the improvisations. Also, I wasn't familiar with Sangah Noona, but she absolutely blew me away!
Why are people treating this like a competition? No doubt those people don't actually play. It's interesting to hear what people do. It's very interesting to hear- based on a single listen - how much people use the Blues scale which is the default scale for much of this piece of music.
I hope for more videos like this. Guitarists solo, jam and collaborate a lot on RUclips, we keyboardists/pianists should do this more often as well. I'm so glad to see all my favourite pianists in this video
Ok, kudos to everyone! At first I liked Nahre's solo best. She seemed to be reading my mind and she was pleasant and easy to follow, playing the notes I anticipated would come next. But then Sangah came along and KICKED ASS! After she finished, I wanted to yell, "Bartender! A round for the whole bar!" If I could play piano like anyone, I would want to play piano like Sangah Noona!
I'm a fan of both Nahre and Sangah! They both have excellent content. You should check out Sangah's Beatles covers, they are just as awesome as this intro!
Sangah's energy was just unmatched, I loved how much fun she was having. Loved how her physical expressions matched her playing, start out with a bang from the get go.
David you are awesome. I follow 4 of those incredible piano players. The other two I was not familiar with. So much fun seeing them all perform in this fantastic little project.

It's interesting how the majority of the viewers liked Sangah's solo best, it being the most simple melodically. Confirms how keeping it simple is also enjoyable, well her setup and energy was much stronger as well haha maybe that has to do with it too. My personal faves were Charles, Jeff (first time hearing him and immediately subbed), Aimme, and David's solo :) Sangah and Nahre played real good too
It was also her vibe. Loved her energy. She also played the most dynamically with volume. It was very much in line with her intro where she liked to tell a story with her music. It had a clear beginning, climax, and resolution.
It was so fun being a part of this project! Thanks to David for the invitation and to all the other great performances as well!😊

More melodic, virtually a song. Just needs lyrics..

The way Jeff used that G# to make the A flow smoothly into the Am brought a big smile to my face.

Charles is on a whole other level.
Sanga Noonah is rad! I already knew Charles and Aimee, but Sangah's solo was so freaking cool!
Aimee's was my favourite in terms of pure jazz and blues vocabulary. But I agree that Sanga was just an incredible performance and journey.
Sangah Noona's vibe and energy was amazing. They all did great
Charles DOMINATED. His vibe sounded like his was meant to be on the original track. 😊😊😊
That walk up on the A chord gave me life!
The work of Sangah Noona was the best for me. Very intense and exquisite. All the others are very enjoyable too.
Yep. It actually feels like a solo that’s in charge, rather than being led by the hand.

Nahre’s solo reminded me of French crime film soundtracks like Le Cercle Rouge, a very pleasant change of mental scenery.
