Wrong! IF your premise were correct.... anyone who's ever hauled dirtbike in a pickup truck with tie downs needs a suspension overhaul, Holeshot assist device don't lock at bottom of fork travel there's enough user adjustable travel left for device to unlatch when front wheel hit a bump.
I have been strapping down the forks on my zx14 for years and haven't gone through any fork seals or springs. This just isn't true. Forks work by moving fluid not holding it under pressure at the bottom. Hard slams are harder on forks than being compressed for extended amounts of time.
I still wish 2 strokes never got abandoned. They have made some incredible advances in 2 strokes for emissions and power. Yet we’ll probably never get them back.
Loved my 125 but it's just hard work keeping it in the power band, reality is the 4 strokes are a lazy ride.. My lap times went down 2 seconds the first time I rode the 250F
Not much has changed other than KTM coming up with their tpi system, 2 strokes are still alive thanks to Yamaha and KTM as far as I’m aware they are the only decent manufacturers left making 2 strokes, you’ll see them more in the enduro scene nowadays though.

Helps the takeoff so you can accelerate faster without flipping over. After you hit a few bumps or your first jump it comes unlocked so you have your regular suspension travel back.

I have one of those fork compressors on my bike and all I do is turn the knob and then hit my front brakes hard while moving, and it compresses them down enough to lock in.
Basically, when you hit the first jump or decent bump, it compresses the suspension past the point of the lock, and that will release it back to normal travel. Usually called holeshot devices, just a little clip and spring that locks in under the tension of the front forks. Hopefully that kind of explains it.
Holeshot device. On the fork they’ve started installing a little hook that pressed into an attachment around the fork tube. Usually braking into the first corner will release it but you’ll see them hit the first jump with their front forks compressed still Normally the rider is having to press down while the mechanic tries to push the HS device into place. There’s a collar with a spring and piston on the top end, and a collar with a slot on the bottom end. Compress the forks lower than the bottom collar, push the button and it’ll lock into place. First corner when he hits the front break the springs will compress and release it. Super simple mechanism.
They normally release it before the first corner its designed to keep the front end down so they don't flip off the back of the bike when they go full throttle from the gate as they have a lot of power and grip

Lol no the back wheel is whats pushing the bike forward which makes the bike want to wheelie lowering the front and putting as much body weight up front as possible will keep that front wheel down on the ground and you off of it
These bikes dig and wheelie easily. Keeping weight up front helps the rear dig hard without it wheelieing then u can twist it full throttle and let it fly to first corner
Hotshot device, mate. It locks the forks down into place so they can launch better with more traction, once the riders launched off hell disengage it and they forks will spring back to their set travel compression. 😊

Before I cut my forks down, i would use a strap. I would roll the bike about 5 mph in the lanes, grab the front brake hard and heave on the strap. It was basic but it worked
I doubt you'll see this on the starting line at a race bc a mech don't want to carry that around but on practice days where you're doing 20+ starts this is huge

How about you just set it yourself? It’s called reach over the bars and grab rim, then follow thru with pulling down and latch with opposite hand. A child can do this. But I guess those factory’s get lazy with the money and lose the brains in the deal.

I'm not a supercross rider but to me that looks like it takes weight off the rear end making the wheel spin I really don't understand that but I see it keeps you from wheeling but I'm not a shock engineer either just asking

We used sinch straps to hold it down before the YZ450F on nitrous, drag race....
Straps only work for drag racing, you gotta have suspension travel after the takeoff in mx so this actually unlocks after the launch

I pass this track all the time on the 15 and have never seen anyone on it but its always groomed.
Should have been around 50 years ago, Kawasaki guys practiced 24-7 unless they were at a race.
Also, go a mile up the canyon on the east side of fwy, they have 5 different practice tracks at last count.
Hole shot is set with a button on the fork protector. You can see him press it. I found it hard on occasion to set mine but these boys are on point

Lol no the back wheel is whats pushing the bike forward which makes the bike want to wheelie lowering the front and putting as much body weight up front as possible will keep that front wheel down on the ground and you off of it

These bikes dig and wheelie easily. Keeping weight up front helps the rear dig hard without it wheelieing then u can twist it full throttle and let it fly to first corner

Hotshot device, mate. It locks the forks down into place so they can launch better with more traction, once the riders launched off hell disengage it and they forks will spring back to their set travel compression. 😊
They unlock when they hit the first hill, bump or whatever that is enough to compress them ever so slightly and that causes them to release...

Before I cut my forks down, i would use a strap. I would roll the bike about 5 mph in the lanes, grab the front brake hard and heave on the strap. It was basic but it worked

I doubt you'll see this on the starting line at a race bc a mech don't want to carry that around but on practice days where you're doing 20+ starts this is huge

Either have hella rebound or no compression
They lock into place when compressed and the hole shot button is pressed, it’s to keep the front end down when the gate drops, the forks then will release after hitting some bumps or ruts.
It’s called a “holeshot device”

How about you just set it yourself? It’s called reach over the bars and grab rim, then follow thru with pulling down and latch with opposite hand. A child can do this. But I guess those factory’s get lazy with the money and lose the brains in the deal.

What does giving preload to the suspension do?
Called hole shot device or something like that…. it’s used in moto gp also, to get off the line quicker, same as putting all your weight over the front end

I'm not a supercross rider but to me that looks like it takes weight off the rear end making the wheel spin I really don't understand that but I see it keeps you from wheeling but I'm not a shock engineer either just asking

Is there a bypass switch or once it’s under load the shock functions again? I ride mountain bikes so I’m lost
When he hits the brakes in the first corner the catch will release and the shocks will function as normal.
Man that would be awesome we use to just pray and rip it I’ve been thinking about getting another bike now if I can figure out a way to get the ol lady to agree and not stress about me mangling myself 😂
