    Brad, I truly appreciate you putting out this series on the SE upgrade. I will reference them when doing mine shortly. I must add that despite a few weak engineering spots, HDMoCo puts out some timeless machines that are beautiful through the ages. My dad rode several bikes and I loved every one. I just pulled my cams out of my 2001 flht, inboard shoe was like new, the outboard shoe was 99% worn, in fact, it cracked when I lifted it off the chain, 26,600 miles. ????? never seen that before. I'm waiting for my s&s 509G kit to arrive, gear drive. the pinion shaft was .002 out, pretty dam good, I won't have to mess with it again. good vid, keep em coming.

      Ya we recommend the first check of cam chain tensioners at 30k and there usally worn at the mileage, but tipically have alittle life left on them mabe 15-20% of bikes at 30k have serious tensioner ware I find. If your primary tensioner was serious warn like 99% and cracked (like the first tensioner you see when you remove the cam cover). I'd also check to make sure the compensator nut is tight. If the compensator nut is loose the crank can wiggle back and forth in the case moving the primary cam chain across the face of the tensioner causing cracking and excessive ware I've found.

    Great set of videos, watched all 3, great workmanship too. I am currently having this done to my 2001 Softail Classic at 30,000 miles. I love this bike and plan to keep it for another 20 years. (Been riding Harleys over 40 years) Nothing broken yet, but worn enough to replace with upgrade, Although I'm having a local independent shop that specializes in older Harleys doing it ( not the local Harley dealer, they did not seam to interested), I can't find videos on this subject seaming to mention cost? but I was quoted around $2,000 for parts and labor, sounded fair to me, I hope they do as good a job as you, I'll update later. Just had this service done on my 02 FatBoy last year (29k). I inspected the original tensioner shoes and the front one was about 50%, but the inside one was paper thin. Luckily I was able to get the bike serviced before any major issues happened. Wish I saw this before going to dealer, but the dealer I used is very trustworthy and the mechanic did a great job. Runs great! I too stayed with OEM cams, solid lifter rods, but upgraded the roller lifters, and had the mechanic replace/upgrade the top end gaskets and breather filter. Your videos are well documented and should help those who like to do it themselves or are thinking about getting the work done and don’t realize the work involved. Keep up the great videos! @@paulfiore850 I had both inner and outer bearings done since the bikes at that time period (00-02) had “issues”, the higher mileage, and since they were in there already 😉. Bearings were cheap. I told service manager to install new OEM cams, but the tech that worked on it saw NO wear marks what so ever on old one, so they just reinstalled the same cam. Tech told me to keep doing the maintenance I was doing (regular oil changes) since there was no wear👍😎. I took that money saved and had the tech upgrade the tappets since those were slightly worn. Good day Brad, first of all...I love all your videos!!!
    Hopefully you have time for my questions. I bought a 2019 cvo street glide and I had all the works needed to be done before I got it out from the dealership,my biggest question is having a stage 4 kit done on a zero kilometres on my bike was it a good idea or waist of money. The reason why I ask on my Dynojet research results it was very poor. Ok I got the bike with a stage 4 kit already and I even did the first 1000km brake in before I got it dyno, I was even following the right procedure by riding the bike under 3 rpm so there will be no problems. Now I’ve done the 1000km with the first service and Dyno already with a stage 4 kit. First result tune max power 112.45 at engine RPM=5.88
    Max torque 110.77 at engine RPM=4.07
    Final tune
    Max 119.63 at engine RPM=5.88
    Max torque =116.55 at engine RPM= 3.88
    Brad it’s a 117 engine with a stage 4 and it feels so slow and it doesn’t feel responsive.
    I know I should not be comparing it to my fat boy 2015 with a stage 5 Tyre shredder fly by cable. Because the cvo street glide is much more heavyweight.
    Then I test ride my best friend ROAD GLIDE SPECIAL stock 2019 114.
    It’s more responsive and feels faster. Brad much appreciated if you can answer my questions was it worth having the stage 4 done on a brand new bike with zero km, especially on my cvo 2019??? And I didn’t even check if the bore size the pistons, valves,head,rollers are the same as a 117 engine to a stage 4...
    Sorry rine hart full system and SE air filter high flow,that will not hit the speakers😂
    Thank you so kindly if you can answer my questions

    • @HarleyDavidsonWizard
      @HarleyDavidsonWizard  3 года назад +2

      If you plan on keeping the bike I'd recommend upgrading to the hydraulic tensioners or gear drives sooner than later. Your spring loaded tensioners can break at any time. They'll likely last 30-40k miles but in a few cases I've seen them brake apart as little at 15k miles (in these cases the compensator nut usually becomes loose) and that can lead to spring loaded tensioner cracking and breaking. Anyways... if you wanna do cams, the sooner the better. The bike will be more more fun to ride with cams and its value is higher with hydraulic tensioners or gear drives so it's a win win.

      It is alot of work, but the cost is usally 6 hours labor so labor wise it's well under $1000.
