    You have to appreciate skjelmose racing IQ, in the last 2 years he hasn't made a bad choice, both as a captain or has a domestique

    • @woutkoopman
      @woutkoopman 11 месяцев назад +30

      You could call it racing IQ, but he will get a reputation as a guy who sits in the wheel and then outsprints the others. Cyclists have long memories for these type of racers, they're extremely disliked. That's why you don't see it very often. You could call it racing IQ, I'm calling it bad long term planning.

      @@woutkoopman To say the least he brought McNultty to Jorgensen, using the fact that he was so behind on GC. In a way McNultty was the liability during that move because he was ahead on GC and may make the other guys chase. After the front pack of three formed, it is the only sensible thing that Skjelmose not pull as hard as McNultty, and McNultty will happily pull. It is standard cycling tactics rather than Skjelmose 'not contributing'

      Nobody is questioning his ability but stage races are won by team strength, time and time again when Remco needs a domestique to close a gap or pace a climb he's isolated. Hopefully Alaphilippe will take that role for TDF, before JA crashed in Vuelta he was an awesome road captain for Quickstep.

    IMO Van Mol's experiment continues to get chunkier (and presumably heavier). That has its advantages (ask hulk MvdP vs the skinny v1 of yesteryear), but I think Remco's going to really struggle to keep the wheels of other GCs in the high mountains this season. His form looks good here, and he looked like he wanted to attack, but couldn't - it's indicative.

He didn't respond to Roglic attack very convincingly, then he let Jorgenson go, then two other leaders, yesterday same thing with Buitrago and Plapp, difficult to believe these are only tactical errors.
