I’m 41 and my best friend is going to be 80 this August and Mr. Brodie reminds me of her. Every time we get together for tea (me coffee) I enjoy every story she tells me about her childhood and now. Just seeing how her eyes glow and come alive with happiness as she remembers them just makes my day.

Hello -. My name is Deborah, and I live in Southern California, USA.. I came across your channel quite by accident, and enjoy it very much. I don't mean to presume, but from your appearance, it appears that we may be close in age, Please understand, I mention this because I find it very refreshing to listen to and watch a host from my generation! While I may enjoy listening to wide variety of narrators and storytellers, you're extremely well-spoken and articulate, and exceptionally professional. With that said, may I make a request?
Recently I viewed an episode that showed a "blooper" cut replayed, again and again, because you couldn't stop laughing - giggling - long enough to begin that particular segment. That was wonderful, and so funny! It was great to see that side of you! You should consider doing at least one outtake at the end of each show! I may be fairly new to your channel, but I have watched quite a few videos and have enjoyed each one! I just realized, though, after viewing this episode, I find myself looking for more outtakes!

Nobody who even caught a glimpse of Schneider thought him anything but a shyster. But he never forgot a name. About his only virtue. Somebody got a Pulitzer for saying otherwise? Bogdanovich went on to write The Killing of the Unicorn, blaming his former friend Hugh Hefner and the Playboy Empire for Stratton's death, which was gruesome 'way beyond your tasteful mention. She was literally blown apart. Like those of Marilyn and Natalie Wood, there are always flowers on her grave.

He had a huge ego with no talent and his actions were totally self serving. She was a beautiful young lady at the beginning of what could have been a wonderful career. Canada was very saddened by her loss, she was torn away much too soon. Muriel Hemingway portrayed her very well in the film “Star 80”. RIP. Dorothy, you are greatly missed. 5:08

When she gained more experience she realized what a piece of crap he was and started to distance herself from him but he was never going to let his possession go. In his twisted selfish mind she was his property and if he could use her to cash in then no one was. He was a selfish egotistical murderer and a coward, such a coward that once he stole her life he wasn’t going to face up to what he did or the justice system so he blew his brains out . Too bad he didn’t just skip straight to blowing his own head off and being done with it. The world keeps her and hell gets him!

  • @Ckom-Tunes
    @Ckom-Tunes Год назад +9

Thing is Snider was no prize and he simply exploited her for his own personal gratification.
The sad thing is the men in her life after Snider were simply more polished exploiters-with lots of money.
Due to her youth, and her naive trust of these men Dorothy wasn’t given the personal agency or time to grow into herself and attain her dreams through her own talent (which everyone agrees she most certainly had.)
Basically she was treated as a sex goddess ingénue who could be manipulated, at different levels, for different purposes. It’s a clear that all three men wanted something out of her-she never really had a chance to excel at her own personal goals.
It’s horrible to imagine how many women suffered the same fate as Dorothy. Young, beautiful and impressionable girls who felt uncomfortable with what they were asked to do but ultimately submitting because they had been gaslighted into believing it was the only thing they were good for and it was their one and only chance at success.
As a side note Dorothy’s mother bears some culpability in the tragedy. She failed at protecting Dorothy from the slimeball Snider-probably because she saw Dorothy as a burden to her single parent family and wanted her out of her care and responsibility. By signing off on letting Pimp Paul take pictures of her 17 year old daughter (and send them to Playboy) she really seems to be a derelict parent. By letting a second daughter be seduced by a slick, morally questionable, decades older, director all doubt about her lack of fitness to be a parent is removed. It’s remarkable how much damage she allowed her precious daughters to endure. She’s definitely not without sin in the death of Dorothy and corruption of Dorothy’s sister.
Moral: Protect your daughters. Let there talent develop naturally. Help them set realistic goals. Encourage them to have opportunities and options commensurate with their values. Warn them about the techniques of the exploitive system that surrounds them and always give them the opportunity to walk out of these situations and come home smarter and wiser to the tricks of the trade!

He was really _abusive,_ (in pretty much every possible way) & she had tried to get out more than once before.
No one has the right to take someone's life for choosing to no longer be in a relationship with them. If _anyone_ was used, she was. I’m always surprised so many people think Lizzie Borden was innocent. Burning the dress, changing her story, the story about Abby visiting a neighbor…plus all the other weird things, sounds guilty to me.

Your channel is one of the very best. Thank you for it. I love how you cover everything and different topics- all with heart and with care.- just to add ( maybe someone already has mentioned this, but there is a wild movie out there if you can get a hold of it, called: Star 80-and good old Eric Roberts as Paul. Good one.

She would regret meeting up with him. He's a controlling sob. It was never going to end well. When you separate from a person like this - it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the fallout. Anybody in an abusive relationship has to recognize the signs and danger. It's human nature to want to better your circumstances. He just wanted to ride on her success. Never seeking a job of his own. Poor Dorothy.

It is amazing to me that the power that Hefner had he could have had Snider killed. He had enough connections to do it. They told Dorothy not to see this man alone but Dorothy was naive. A fatal mistake 8:10

It's genius storytelling to relate to us a story that everybody "knows," but doesn't really know. That could be a great avenue, re-visiting supposedly well-known stories, with depth and detail, and turnabout.

Lizzie was innocent. If you ever see a breakdown of all the tasks she would have had to complete in a small number of minutes (20 I think I recall), there's just no way anyone could do it even with planning and practice drills.

52:41 So the lynching did not curb kidnapping. Quelle Surprise.
I am not a big advocate for capital punishment, although it sounds as if these two deserved it. But I am certainly an opponent of extrajudicial lynching.
