She was thinking of him. And it feels like an extra layer of loss to me that he'll never know that, because you can imagine how much that would have meant to him.
True. But, I liked that he was focused on the gas prices at the Mexican gas station. 41 cents/liter. Glad Sarah didn't go grocery shopping or show the prices on the menu where she worked Yikes. haha

The novelization provided some interesting backstory for Reese and John. John never told Reese that they were related. Once he came to power he found Reese and had him assigned to a unit close to his inner circle. Just before they sent Reese back in time, John walked into the room and asked to speak to him alone. He made Reese recite the speech he later said to Sarah until he had it down. He then stood looked at Kyle and grabbed him in a bare hug. It did make me chuckle how long it took for you to see Arnold as the bad guy. It took many movies after this one for people to see him as the big, fun, lovable character...because for years he was mean-ass Terminator.
This whole movie was shot without having any permits to film in any of the locations throughout the film so they shot most of it at night time late nights they set up quickly films what they could then got out of there before police showed up. That's why a lot of it takes place at night time.
HBDay! Love me some Arnold! He was so big because he was 7 times Mr. Universe bodybuilder. Conan the Barbarian and Red Heat both showcase The Austrian Oak (his bodybuilder nickname). And you can see him grow as an actor, moving into action, comedy, sci-fi, thrillers and romance even. Keep him in mind cause you can't go wrong with Arnold.

39:03 That's 40.3 pesos per litre. Mexico was undergoing very rapid inflation at the time, but in March of '85 (factoring in a few months for Sarah to be as pregnant as she was) the exchange rate was 238 pesos per US dollar. Doing the math, the gasoline cost about 65¢/gallon, which was about half the US national average at the time.
The reason the answering machines were so big back then is because they were just special tape-recorders, and earlier models (like the one in the movie) needed TWO tapes, one for the outgoing message, and another for the incoming messages. Later on they started using smaller cassettes, and eventually they started using chips to store the audio instead of cassettes.
The Terminator getting his eyebrows burned 🔥 off from the explosion prior to his punching 👊 through the windshield to grab Sarah was a great idea for the makeup department. No eyebrows gave the Terminator a more menacing look to his character. A feel like he's not quite human. Almost like an unstoppable Frankenstein monster!! -OG
Remember when Kyle said he always wondered what she was thinking in that picture. It turns out she was thinking about him. Love the Terminator movies!!!!!
You were probably thinking part 2. In this one, Sara is just starting. In 2, she bad ass and buff. Even if you've seen it before, it's still a great movie and still has some CGI they stacks up today. Happy birthday and glad you liked your present.🎉
Your birthday is a day behind mine, and some years. The answering machines were so big because they used the old style audio cassettes, often two of them. Also lot of solid state hardware in there not microchips and all.
@JL Long before he fell in love with the Titanic and Blue people in Avatar. Cameron did this movie was huge for the Science Fiction/Action genre, did the even "better" (to me) Terminator 2 and the smash sequel Aliens. Was glad to see you watch this early classic and innovating director early work.
I've always liked Paul Winfield. His most iconic role was probably the movie Sounder in 1972. I have a handful of his movies. Sounder, Conrack, White Dog, Blue City, Cliffhanger, Mike's Murder.
J took the correct mindset to deal with time travel paradoxes, which is what they said in Austin Powers 2: "I suggest you don't worry about those things and just enjoy yourself."
Kyle Reese grew up looking at a picture of The Mother of John Connor who he falls in love with. He always wonders who she is thinking about in the photo, It seems like she is thinking about him all along
The detective who you think looked like Jesse Jackson was played by Paul Winfield (1939 - 2004). I recall him from 'King' a miniseries in which he played Martin Luther King, which was on television many years ago
You saw the world Kyle came from, that bum's pants would probably be considered to be ritzy and super nice in his time. Most people in his future probably would be happy just to have clothes with no holes.
9:44 It might be a slight upgrade to what Reese is used to. There is at least a slight chance that guys pants were washed relatively recently with detergent.
I was just going to make this comment. It's so unfortunate that anyone who's come to this film for the first time in the last twenty years has had that wack remixed audio track to contend with, which I really do think undermines the power of the film greatly---the sound effects editing on the gunshots in the original mono mix just hits so much harder than the later mix.
@ResidentPetrolhead Agreed. The remix greatly undermines the guerilla filmmaking approach the film had. The new sounds IMO call too much attention to themselves while the old sounds allow me to sit and appreciate the film from the perspective of the time.
Oh yeah man. You're in for a treat now. I must say tho before you get deep into this franchise...1 and 2 are the goats. Watch the rest at your own risk.
Great reaction, especially at the end where you kept repeating ,"don't think about it ... living in the moment." That is exactly the correct attitude for watching movies in this franchise, as the holes in the logic keep geting larger with each movie added to it. Not everyone seems to see them though. So good on you that you can. It will better prepare you for the first sequel, which many (myself included) feel is better than this one. But don't stop there, as the people who take this franchise way too seriously will tell you. The third installment has just as much drama and action as the first two. But in recognition of the ever increasing plot holes it also has some self-aware fun with itself too. So you are going to get some humor thrown in to make for an even more enjoyable experience, provided, of course you are still of your current mindset. If not you'll likely view it as the fanatics do, as blasphemy.
The fact that you kept getting so close to realizing the relationship between John, Reese and Sara lol. I just knew it was on the tip of your tongue and you would realize it at any moment. Only true Friends fans will get this but...I was like Chandler in the episode when Joey was close to figuring out that Monica was on the tape in Richard's apartment...I kept yelling, "get there faster!!!" 😂😂
Yes, this whole time loop paradox thing throws a lot of people off. John Connor is a threat to the Machines in the future, so they send a Terminator to terminate his mom so he's never conceived. The irony is that by sending a Terminator back in time, the Resistance sends the father to the past that will actually impregnate Sarah to conceive John. Had the Machines not done that, John wouldn't exist. So, which came first? The chicken or the egg? Lol. -OG
The actor u said looked like Rev Jackson is actually iconic, legendary actor Paul Winfield. “Sounder” (1972), “A Hero Ain’t Nothing But a Sandwich” (1978) and “Original Gangstas” (1996) among many other films🔥(the first two were actually shown in NYC schools in the auditoriums on those rainy school days❤)
you know, I think you may be the only YT reactor that I wouldn't mind, and most likely thoroughly enjoy, watching you react to a movie that you have already seen lol
He’s still wanting to still do the Scream and John Wick series at some point, just to prep for the new ones coming out. That and people have asked for the HP series. I’d be down to do any of those if people want to see him run thru them again.
Haha, you were so worried about the yucky pants he put on! Not that I disagree but I think he had more important things to worry about! Enjoyed your reactions.
Any story involving time travel will always need plot shield. Time travel stories without exception come to a point where something needs to happen that can't possibly happen, and we all just say "ok I'm livin' in the moment", or what is called suspension of disbelief. We agree to it (or we don't, and stop watching), and go on enjoying a great story :)
"Why is she going out if a bunch of people with her name getting killed?" When she goes out she is only aware that one other person named Sarah Connor has been killed, and she probably thinks it's just a coincidence. It's not until after she goes out and sees it on the TV that she's aware of the second one, then she gets scared and calls the police.
I highly recommend watching the extended version of Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) with the definitive ending. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that version and adds context that was originally taken out, anyone that says otherwise is pushing an agenda. Fun Fact: One afternoon during a break in filming, Arnold Schwarzenegger went into a restaurant in downtown L.A. to get some lunch and realized all too late that he was still in Terminator makeup - with a missing eye, exposed jawbone and burned flesh. Juice Dodged Fact: O.J. Simpson was considered for the Terminator, but the producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer. Ironic. Director Cameo Fact: Near the beginning of the movie, when Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) receives a message on her answering machine breaking her date, the voice on the machine is James Cameron's.
Criminal fact: In the scene where Arnold steals the station wagon, the crew didn't have a permit. So they shot the scene there anyway in a hurry and left.
@UCggia9DstXaLQo4EF5T9qtg Agreed. There is one new scene with a really cool special effect. The rest of the additions just aren't worth much. Okay, with one exception relating to Dyson, but i'm not going to say any more and risk spoiling it for our man. That scene with Dyson is one I wish was in the theatrical cut though because that does add a lot of character to him.
Answering machines back then had two cassette tapes in it. One was your message to who ever called telling them whatever you wanted your message to be, and the other tape recorded the callers message they were leaving for you.
You wait until T2: Judgement Day and you will take back the statement about her not being badass. The second movie is probably one of the best sequels to ever exist
Sara was a great female lead in this movie! I liked her more in this one than the second one. I might be in the minority in that opinion, but I stand by it!

Top tier review. Hopefully you do the sequel ASAP, you’ll enjoy it more that way, and we’ll be looking forward to it.
Makes me laugh every time you jump, I wait for the 'shut up' 🤣
Can't wait for your reaction to Terminator 2. In my opinion it's the best one out-of all
@DaWun2410 In my opinion those are the only two MOVIES worth watching at all.
Michael Biehn has been forever slept on. He’s done fantabulous in atleast 3 epic roles among blockbuster cult classics! Johnny Ringo aliens and the OG Terminator fun fact he was the first to say “come with me if you want to live” Arnold was second y’all 😅
Hudson from Aliens was also in this. The blue haired dude at the start with the telescope. And Kyle was Hicks in Aliens.
This movie is great and undoubtedly a classic. The sequel... is one of the best sci-fi movies ever made and still holds up today. It was groundbreaking when it released and continues to receive praise through to today. I'm excited for you to check it out, since it should answer a lot of your questions about what was going on in this one.
Terminator 2 is a must watch. Some people think it's better .
It's great but I prefer this one for its dark tone and how relentless the terminator is.
I’m one of the ones that like it better
Yep, one of the very rare cases where, for me, the sequel is even better.
@@RaefonB yeah I totally understand liking the first terminator or Alien movie, but even if someone likes the original better, we can agree James Cameron knows how to do a sequel
@@jarrodoakley6911 Agreed :D
...at the end of the movie you realize that she was thinking about Kyle in the picture, the picture that made Kyle fall in love with her and go back to find her (a mind-f*ck, eh?)
Good job recognizing Bishop from Aliens. But you didn't recognize Reese from Aliens. He was Corporal Hicks. And, that punk kid with the blue mohawk at the beginning was in Aliens. He was Pvt Hudson.
As an old fart, I can confirm this information is correct.
He’s only 5 years younger than I am. Not sure why he even asked the question
-OG
Kyle was also in aliens. He was the lone marine survivor. Corporal Hicks.
Classic FLICK. Happy B-Day! ✌️
You have a real gift with these reactions. No one else that I know of has the comedic timing that you do.
Not spoiling too much but I love Sarah's transformation from T1 to T2!!!
Scared of a robot with a limp? People in Star Wars are scared of the asthmatic cyborg, Darth Vader
I've always liked Paul Winfield. His most iconic role was probably the movie Sounder in 1972. I have a handful of his movies. Sounder, Conrack, White Dog, Blue City, Cliffhanger, Mike's Murder.
I watched White Dog way, way, way back when I was in high school. I believe it was for our Social Studies class. Excellent movie.
He also played Captain Terrell in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
@@technopirate304 Wasn't he also in the "Darmok" episode of Star Trek TNG?
@@goji8416 Yep under a ton of prosthetics
J took the correct mindset to deal with time travel paradoxes, which is what they said in Austin Powers 2: "I suggest you don't worry about those things and just enjoy yourself."
Repeat to yourself "It's just a show, I should really just relax."
Electronics were big as hell in the 80's. Answering machines were basically big tape recorders in those times.
I'll be back...to watch this later.
Much Appreciated EOM. Enjoyed the hell out of this one
You saw the world Kyle came from, that bum's pants would probably be considered to be ritzy and super nice in his time. Most people in his future probably would be happy just to have clothes with no holes.
Awesome Movie and Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
9:44 It might be a slight upgrade to what Reese is used to. There is at least a slight chance that guys pants were washed relatively recently with detergent.
Love your Doug funnie quailman shirt.
she’s a badass in the second one. and that one is a freaking masterpiece. you MUST watch it.
Awesome that you’re watching this with the OG mono audio!
Sarah Connor fell in love with a guy who stole a homeless man's smelly pants and wore them without any underwear on for multiple days 🤣
I don't much like the franchise after t2 but I will say that t3 has one of the best endings I have ever seen in any movie.
Happy belated birthday my Brother 👌🎉🎉🙏🙏 from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹👍👌☺️
The actor from aliens playing the cop is Lance Henrickson. Great actor! He was in the tv series, Millennium, Alien v predator.
Another great reaction, 👏 happy birthday J hope you have an amazing day
I saw this in 1986 when I was 10. Scared me half to death!! Convinced myself that we had cyborg neighbours 😂😂😂. Happy Birthday 🥳
Love you man - you keep the world spinning in and out of your luxurious chair!
All the best.
Lol. -OG
Always fun watching the younger generation catching up on the classics 😁 Always appreciate your videos and congratulations on the birthday
When Reese asked the officer the date and you jumped, it’s a shame it was a Thursday and not a TUESDAY! 😊
you know, I think you may be the only YT reactor that I wouldn't mind, and most likely thoroughly enjoy, watching you react to a movie that you have already seen lol
To state the obvious, dry cleaning or laundromats aren't a thing in Kyle Reese's time.
I think you're the only reaction channel who's watched this movie with the original mono track. Props to you for that.
"Why is she going out if a bunch of people with her name getting killed?"
When she goes out she is only aware that one other person named Sarah Connor has been killed, and she probably thinks it's just a coincidence.
I second that, the extended version isnt much longer but adds a lot of depth.
Levi Boldock ...James Cameron thought Dark Fate was a good and has become an unhinged lunatic of late, so I question his judgment right now.
Definitely watch T2 extended edition👍
Matt is played by Rick Rossivich who played Slider in Top Gun
He was also in Navy Seals with Michael Bein.
Happy birthday! You chose a bonafide classic to celebrate. You have great taste! I love the spontaneity of your reactions!
@ 12:37 Lance Henriksen is kinda legendary! He's in lots of good 80s and 90s stuff. Love the Quailman t shirt my dude
Sara was a great female lead in this movie! I liked her more in this one than the second one. I might be in the minority in that opinion, but I stand by it!
Happy Belated Birthday, JL! 🎂
I always thought that kid watching the TV fire was hilarious😂😂
Lol, love the “I’ll be back” you snuck in at the end of the video. This is why you are the absolute best at what you do J.
40.3 centavos per liter, so roughly one peso and 60 centavos a gallon.
Can't wait to watch you react to T2!
Also Bill Paxton with blue liberty spikes is everything
