He also knew his death would buy time for the others, he died a good death, I'd like to think the predator saw him as a worthy adversary and met him face to face.

The best performance is this entire movie is Bill Duke's. He's 100% all-in and convincing as his character. Great actor.

With respect to Arnold's arm injury, the reason the Predator's cannon didn't sever his arm but did take off Carl Weathers' (sorry. Chubbs') is that the shot hit his rifle, not his arm and shoulder directly. Chubbs wasn't so lucky. RIP Chubbs.

They wouldn't believe until I replayed the scene frame by frame to show the point of impact and the riffle splitting in half. VHS is ugly as granny ass to begin with let alone going frame by frame it squiggles like an old time porn channel. Now days solving the mystery isn't so hard.

The fact that the Predator is cheating with his "space technology" is spot-on... I've always seen the Predator as a rough allegory for human hunters, who like to pretend they're "sporting" even though they use high-tech shit no prey animal could *ever* understand - the Predator is the same way: even with all its bravado, it is basically a punk out on a weekend safari
Technically they’re supposed to do it so other species don’t get their technology/no honor in capture
Cougars use their superior strength and teeth to kill deer, humans use our superior intelligence and tools. The prey needn't understand or deserve a "fair" chance, as such ideas are foreign in the natural world.
But when he find someone worthy he ditches all the tech and fights them straight up. Can't imagine any circumstance where a human would do that when hunting!

it was essentially playing with Dutch at the end there, if not for Dutch relying on his ingenious traps, he would have been beaten to death.
there is also an intentional irony that for all the fancy high tech stuff on both sides
what defeats the predator in the end is textbook low tech
the Predators are so used to high tech they never suspected or see a deadfall tree being used as a weapon
FYI
At the start of filming the actor who portrayed the PREDATOR was the at the time unknown JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME.
JCVD and the director came to terms that their vision of what the predator should be, fast and agile, wasnt working because the suit was far to stiff to move around in as they wanted.
What also contributed to the change was JCVD kept passing out from the suit and the hot climate where they were filming as well as the director felt with the majority of the main cast being at least 6'1 and JCVD being 5'10 the Predator wasnt as intimidating as they wanted it to be. JCVD was then replaced by 7'2 actor Kevin Peter Hall.

Arnold movies are always fun to watch. I know you saw Terminator 1&2 and Kindergarten Cop.
Total Recall, The Running Man and Commando are a few more Arnold movies worth watching. Each of those are different but still all very schwarzeneggy.
It's hard to believe this, but Arnold turns 75 on July 30.

You wouldn't believe how hard this movie was to rent back when it came out. Small town, one video store, one VHS copy of Predator. Nearest video store 100 mile drive. People were literally on a list to get it. But it was SO worth it. I got lucky cause the store owner treated me like one of her kids so I was very close to first in line so nothing was spoiled at all. We had it, Coke and Pepsi and pizza and friends and family and it rocked. 🐾🐾🍻

Predator 2 is way underrated.
Sonny Landham, who played Billy, was a real life badass. He had bodyguards to protect others from him.
Shane Black, who played Hawkins, was the writer. He was cast so the keep. the writer nearby.
It's easy to miss, but the scene where Arnold gets shot by the Predator's shoulder cannon, it actually hits Arnold's his gun. The gun absorbs the impact of the shot and gets broken apart.
I went back and watched last night bc I had a few people say that to me. I finally saw but it happens so fast it’s hard to catch

The reason Dutch didn't get killed by the plasma blast is because the bolt hit his gun first. It's easy to miss, but you can see his rifle pretty much cut in half, so that absorbed most of the energy.

Playing Arma3 in the jungles on Tanoa is a study in paranoia. After a while everything looks like a half-visible enemy. It's just a game, but I have actually frozen in place a lot of times just 15min after insertion there... Weird feeling...

Last Action Hero is not Arnold's greatest film but it does play with the whole "Arnold is invincible" trope you mentioned. Written by Shane Black, who was the "p**sy joke" guy in Predator. But yeh, Arnold has serious plot armor. He doesn't die in his movies.

Dutch dont need a refrigerator to survive a nuke like Indie
They did this one on Myth-Busters with an infrared camera. In reality, your skin begins warming up the mud the second you put it on. If you put a whole bunch of cold mud all over yourself really quick, it'll kind of mute the heat signature a little bit, but it'll be back to normal in under a minute, and still quite visible long before then.
I would like to see that. I always thought that show was pretty cool

I think the reason they didn't show it is because of how difficult it would be to give billy a respectable death without taking away some of the aura of the predator. The fact Billy was willing to slow down the predator for him to get a headstart was enough to respect him more. Imo
The director of Prey, Dan Trachtenberg, has stated that this was his whole motivation for making Prey. His friends saw the movie when he was a kid, and talked up Billy's last stand. Trachtenberg was excited to see it, and was disappointed that it wasn't actually IN the movie.

The reason why Billy stood his ground and stopped running was because he knew already he was dead and wanted to do down fighting.
Watch that scene again closely and you will see the plasma caster bolt hit Dutch's rifle and spits it in 2

Predator: The Musical. Some dudes made that about eleven years ago on their RUclips channel. Pretty funny video, and they do really good imitations of characters from the movie. Just thought you might want to see it, since you've seen the movie. The second Predator film with Danny Glover is really good too, I hope you get to watch that for the channel. The Predator in that film is even more aggressive and violent, so Danny Glover has to deal with all sorts of craziness.

I was lucky enough to visit one of the jungle locations where Predator was filmed south of Puerto Vallarta. Excellent tour and fun times..and no,no aliens to worry about just really large fauna and bugs!😂💚

It was the size of an eagle and I had to call down to reception to have the guys come and help get it out. Literally the body of the moth was the size of a big twinkie and from wingtip to wingtip at least1.5 feet. It took hours for my heart to stop pounding!!!😂😂😂😂

One consideration, though... RED HEAT will probably create curiosity about Belushi-Buddy films like K-9 with Belushi & Police Dog. Which then leads to Tom Hanks' TURNER & HOOCH cop-dog fun pix, too.
Poor Mac actually had a good plan, and he was being sneaky, but he had no way of knowing the predator had infrared vision. Kind of kills the plan. Shame, too, because Mac was my favorite character. Billy Duke was the strongest performer in the film in my opinion, and I say that as a huge Carl Weathers fan.
They can't just go home because the landing zone for the chopper is 12 miles away, through dense jungle. None of them would have made it even a quarter of the way before getting picked off, one by one. Their best chance was to make a stand, or so it stood to reason. But they never shot when they had a shot (i.e. the Predator had some "plot armor"), so it didn't work out.

Take a deep dive into the Reptilians topic, it goes back long before this movie was made, and even though the person who wrote the script never said the Predator character was based off the Reptilian race, there are far to many similarities for it not to be influenced by them. There's even a realj life case where a US special forces team reported a encounter/engagement with them in the jungle. They put it in their official statements until the higher ups forced them to retract & rewrite them as well as made them sign non disclosure agreements to never talk about it again, but a couple did way later in life. And that happened before this movie was ever thought up. I can send you some crazy material on the topic that would blow your mind. It was enough to turn me from a hard skeptic to a true believer. They have been amongst us for a long time, and alot of movies/comics/anime/ cartoons etc were influenced from them. Including the 1988 movie "They Live" starring Rowdy Piper.

Predator is a trophy hunter. They only hunt armed typically male prey. In the comic and some of the movies they keep xenomorphs (the alien) as training pets. The predator youths prove their worth by hunting xenomorphs before they go on to bigger prey. Predator 2 is highly recommended..

Corridor Crew recently did a recreation of the "arnie with mud" scene, where the Predator missed him. They used high end night vision equipment, and sure enough, a thin layer of mud was enough to fool the real thermal imaging.
Arnold has always claimed 6'2 but there's plenty of people in the industry claiming arnold has never been more than 5'10. They say he usually wears cowboy boots and/or lifts to appear taller in public.
Chubs is the guy Rocky was fighting in the first two Rocky movies.

The Predator is not really a predator, he's a big-game trophy hunter, and there aren't any game bigger than a sentient, sapient, heavily armed species like humans.
The predator is nice to people who aren’t good warriors. Should just be weak, then you will be safe.
