The only nitpick I have about the level design is that there is no incentive to stay in the standard world. I stayed about 70-80% of the game in umbral. It unlocks paths, gives bonus XP, keeping it on makes it less tedious to switch off. Basically the game felt like the standard world only existed as a short break or breather from umbral. Other times some interconnectivity did feel redundant. But yeah I just mainly wish the standard world was more relevant. It's way prettier and cooler than umbral anyways.

Have the game on PS5. Having platinum'd the game I can say it is an excellent 'souls like' game. I didn't find it as hard as some souls games but I know people that don't play souls games complained this game was too hard. But for souls game players this game looks stunning and sounds stunning and the back and forth between the world of the living and the world of the dead is really cool. All the patches have made it a very feature rich, stable game.

This video is one of the major reasons I'm revisiting LOTF on my channel. Back during the early days of it, it was painful (at best) in certain ways, even though I absolutely loved the artstyle, and the "new things" it offered to the genre. Really appreciated how in depth you went on it, and frankly, without great videos like these: some creators like myself wouldn't even have the time to figure out that the game WAS improved so much, so a sincere "thank you" for this one, as I'd LOVED the ideas this game brought, just hated the exact issues you mentioned here. Because it's not Fromsoft who's doing it. As in that's why they're mad, glossing over Fromsoft's game design issues (whether ledges are an issue is up for debate).
I am playing Lords of the Fallen right now (Sept 2024) and I am loving it. This is my favorite Souls-like next to Elden Ring. And that includes all the actual From Software games.
Hey just found your Channel. Great video!. I was there for LOTF launch and beat it before any major updates [ps5]. I thought the game was great. I almost fell like playing DS1 all over again [but faster pace]. I would read all the item descriptions and try to figure out lore. I didn’t have any performance issues. Enemy placement was a bit annoying sometimes but I’ve always been a slower sword/board player so it fits my style. PvP was a mess anytime i got invaded it was explosive bolt or holy laser beam of death. I enjoyed my playthrough and plan on coming back and platinum it eventually. I have always recommended this game and with all this updates even more. If you can pick it up on sale I say go for it.
So very nice to see the dev team continue to not give up and make this game the best it can be, now we can confidently say it actually is a better experience than the original Lords of the Fallen. Hopefully their next project is able to account from what they have learned from this game, Hexworks has some great potential if they are willing to really listen to their community and growing fanbase and make due on their initial goals and promises.
This game is so f*cking good. The combat system, the sheer amount of weapons, armours, throwable, spells, rings, pendants, and move sets is incredible. Not to mention the builds you can do by combining the items is CRAZY. First time you play, the feeling is almost getting lost.
About the low commitment, like yes certain weapon types have that, but then other weapons just lock you in unnecesary recovery frames animation (like longswords). Maybe it's just me, since I've been using longswords for my two playthroughs, I think I'll just respec into some shortsword/dagger builds.
I have this game on PS5 it's probably one of my top four souls likes including froms games - the issues were overblown at launch and these dudes care and have worked HARD
The game comes to xbox game pass on the 30th of May, stoked to finally try it as fell in love with souls recently and this one looks interesting! Glad to see it's had to improvements before vetting my hands on it!
@@JoostShino I agree. We are so blessed to have such an abundance of great games. For me, I just go is this fun for me. Y = Good game (for me), N = Not for me - that doesn't mean the game is bad - it just means it's not for me. I personally do think this game is AMAZING!
Co-op is still broken and full of bugs, in my hour of testing with a friend, we both turned invisible three times, the environment turned completely black, losing all texture twice & the whole time performance was bad due to latency/optimization. Sad that this game will probably never be fixed, also, it’s dumb the co-op player still doesn’t share loot with the party leader, makes it so you and your friend have to play through twice or simultaneously if you want to maintain a steady pace, both of which are tedious options. If you want a great co-op experience in a souls-like, look to Remnant 2
Great video, I'm playing it jnow for the first time and I'm having a great time. I've played all From Soft and most well known other souls-likes games . There are places that it's much easier and others when it's way harder especially with range fire enemies (can't imagine how it was before the nerfs). I'm around halfway through the game and had no idea about not be able to fall while attacking. 😂
I stepped away from the game for a little bit and when I came back I forgot where I was or what I was doing so I just restarted the game and the first thing I noticed after all the updates was the reduced enemy density
I played this game when it released on game pass after all the updates, so I had a GREAT experience playing it. It’s the second soulslike I’ve platinumed, after Lies of P
I just played it and I thought there still is way too many enemies in small areas. Compare areas in this game to Lies of P, for example. This works great when doing Co-op though. Imo they should just add more enemies when you do Co-op
I finished this game at the peak of enemy density before all the patches. I have to say some areas were disgusting but overal pretty good game. I even left a steam review giving the game 7-8/10. The game is good but has a lot of issues that don’t make me want to replay.
Great video! After I read the game is coming to game pass this May, was super curious about the updates and looking for a more in depth comparison video. Thanks for making this!
I have a 3060ti and I had major performance issue and FPS drops but now i am running the game between 75-90 FPS without drops hats of to the developers for not abandoning the game and the forward momentum and the mob density are the best update that the game recived
Just started playing after it got added to gamepass and really enjoy playing it with my older bro. Was wondering why it got all that hate. Now I know how different the game is. Great video.
As a Nioh player and lover i love to hear someone mention a lack of build variety in souls like games. It's one of the main reasons i loved nioh 2 so much.
I'm really glad they continued to support this game because they really created something incredible, it just needed some smoothing out. I hope they don't feel disheartened from this experience, you can tell there's some real passion put into the world and aesthetics.
Bought this game on sale a few days ago and must say im really enjoying it! I guess it was worth waiting months later to buy(for a discounted price also) since the launch was horrendous.
When this was a newer release, I was disappointed with the performance. Nowadays, though, this game runs better than it did before. Which is saying something because it's on the UE5 engine. I don't like the umbral realm at all personally, but it is still an enjoyable game.
Dedicated throwing weapon spot is most limiting feature in game. You can not have long range weapon in you regular slot, or two range weapons equipped at same time, for no reasson. it is limiting the amounts of build you can make by a lot compared to any dark souls game or ER.
I really enjoy LOTF, and I really had a great time with it, I got really good at it and the game has been improved even more. I am glad they got approved for a sequel to this and am looking forward to it.
This genre isn't stale like Cod got. Because there is so much devs can do to enhance their games snd freshen things up. Look something like Crimson Desert that game is really beautiful you can tell the work and years it has taken to make that game whst it is. Im all for people using FromSoftware's inspiration for theur games. Because look at some of the games coming put. Phantom Blade Zero etc.
Just started a second playthrough of this game and I haven't played it since ver. 1 so these changes are VERY noticable to me. Really wish I would have waited because the experience is sooo much better. Also, I don't even have the best gaming rig with a 10+ year old motherboard CPU and a standard Geforce 3060 and I can get really smooth framerates at 1440p on highest settings with balanced DLSS or high settings at 4k with performance DLSS which is way better than the initial release where I needed to set everything to medium just to get 30fps. Huge improvement. Hopefully HEXWORKS takes all these learned lessons into the sequel.
I will say my GPU/CPU are very outdated and on the gamepass version compared to release LoTF runs flawlessly at 100+ fps, mostly in thanks to decent texture scaling and FSR/DLSS
I played it at the beginning of this year. Do you remember when they reduced mob density? Because when I played the game I simply had 0 fun fighting 90% of the normal enemies while traversing the level. Constant recycling of mini bosses thrown into hordes of normal enemies turning every encounter into a gank squad. Every level felt like Elphael where it was simply more fun to just run through to the boss and ignore the enemies. Its so weird that this came out right around Remnant 2 and Lies of Pi which were so much more polished. If I actually played before the mob density patch I might pick it up again. I still remember the frost area being turbo aids where normal enemies were this recycled mini boss that had insane amount of health while these ranged guys 3 shot you from afar.
Great video man! I was really interested in this game before launch but I watched an interview where the devs were talking about how NG+ removes all your bonfires like it was a cool feature. That just seemed more annoying than difficult and it completely changed my mind about getting it. Souls games are awesome to replay but making it a hassle to replay is an awful idea. It's cool to see you can turn it off now so I might give the game a try now.
just had to comment real quick on the new game +0 and how good of an idea that is. i think it should be standard in all soulslike games. this video definitely makes me want to check thia game out again, especially after being disappointed in the elden ring dlc so thanks for making it!
I bought a physical Xbox SX copy of this game today and it's amazing. It still requires some polishing, it has audio bugs, occasional framerate drops but the visuals are absolutely stunning and the game is fun, the combat is more like in DS2.
good vid. I had been waiting to try this and finally got the chance the other night on game pass. I uninstalled after a few hours. I absolute loathe the umbral realm. Being forced to stay in there with increasing difficulty in enemies turns me off on the game. I like to take my time in these games and that makes me feel rushed. It's unfortunate that one mechanic is keeping me from enjoyment.
Play the surge 2 if you enjoyed this also. You won’t be able to put it down and it’s harder than elden ring in the early game then eventually pure fun with a slight challenge
I think you did a great job on this review! I finished this game when it came out with all the issues. I will be going back to try out the new updates...after The Elden Ring DLC! Keep up the great work!

Love the professionalism, you gained a sub.
Great video!
I bought this game at launch. Returned it the day after. Was nothing like I expected.
My son and I are on our 3rd co-op playthrough. As a souls veteran, this is easily my favorite game in the genre by far!! Glad to see it getting some ❤
it kinda reminds me of wo lon fallen dysteny with the run animation
Souls veteran...... Christ, bet you call a pc a rig to huh?
I have this game on PS5 it's probably one of my top four souls likes including froms games - the issues were overblown at launch and these dudes care and have worked HARD
The game comes to xbox game pass on the 30th of May, stoked to finally try it as fell in love with souls recently and this one looks interesting! Glad to see it's had to improvements before vetting my hands on it!
Great video dude! I grabbed this a week ago, and am loving it a lot. I guess the fixes made make it very worthwhile playing.
It was fine before too. People in gaming are just entitled snowflakes.
@@JoostShino I agree :) - people are way too entitled hey
@@JoostShino I agree. We are so blessed to have such an abundance of great games. For me, I just go is this fun for me. Y = Good game (for me), N = Not for me - that doesn't mean the game is bad - it just means it's not for me. I personally do think this game is AMAZING!
@JoostShino the game was dogsht.
Bro keep going, you are so underrated 😢
Co-op is still broken and full of bugs, in my hour of testing with a friend, we both turned invisible three times, the environment turned completely black, losing all texture twice & the whole time performance was bad due to latency/optimization.
Sad that this game will probably never be fixed, also, it’s dumb the co-op player still doesn’t share loot with the party leader, makes it so you and your friend have to play through twice or simultaneously if you want to maintain a steady pace, both of which are tedious options.
If you want a great co-op experience in a souls-like, look to Remnant 2
Remnant 2 is weak as shit why people act like that game wasn't buggy as shit at first
Remnant 2 is great
Also I never dealt with anything you mentioned
Remnant 2 was indeed very good especially in co-op
Coop has been broken for me since launch. Absolute trash.
Co op works fine for me on Xbox I have zero problems
Awesome video! It was my personal GOTY 2023 (granted I haven’t encountered technical problems) and the game modifiers just made it a lot better.
Great video, u deserve more attention!
Thanks man! I might give this another playthrough or 2.
Wow, I didnt know they reduced mobs. No wonder this game is so easy. I just started it and was just thinking everything felt spread out too much
I stepped away from the game for a little bit and when I came back I forgot where I was or what I was doing so I just restarted the game and the first thing I noticed after all the updates was the reduced enemy density
My 2080 ti has had minimal performance issues in actual gameplay since day 1, I just had to have it auto detect the settings and it still looks great.
I loved this game. Platinumed it. I can’t wait for the 2nd one
Great video. I'm playing this on Xbox Series X and liked it a lot. Going to buy on Steam as well. I had as much fun as I did in Elden Ring.
Started it a few weeks ago and almost done now. Fantastic game (at least now in September 2024) and I love it ❤
Got yourself a new subscriber. Great review!
I absolutely loved the game at launch and beat it before any major changes. I'm looking forward to jumping back in soon
As a Nioh player and lover i love to hear someone mention a lack of build variety in souls like games. It's one of the main reasons i loved nioh 2 so much.
Great video, bought this game but never ended up playing more than an hour or so. I know I’ll enjoy it tho so I definitely will be trying it out again
I'm really glad they continued to support this game because they really created something incredible, it just needed some smoothing out.
I hope they don't feel disheartened from this experience, you can tell there's some real passion put into the world and aesthetics.
Thanks for this I bought the game when it's launched I give up on the game when early stage almost. The Co op not work.I will go back on it Co-op work
Bought this game on sale a few days ago and must say im really enjoying it!
Congratulations man🎉
Great video man keep up what ur doing
Bought this when it came out but haven't played it very much; looking forward to getting back into it.
It was one word: Unbearable. Like, literally ridiculous and I use the word literally with forethought here.
Fantastic video for a fantastic game. I hope we get DLC :D
Just finished my first full playthrough after patch 1.5. This game is VERY underrated. It became my favorite non-FromSoft soulslike.
Hope your not on Xbox, constantly crashes and the co-op and pvp is still awful with the rubber banding.
I bought a physical Xbox SX copy of this game today and it's amazing. It still requires some polishing, it has audio bugs, occasional framerate drops but the visuals are absolutely stunning and the game is fun, the combat is more like in DS2.
This game is so slept on! I liked it alot.
It's unfortunate that one mechanic is keeping me from enjoyment.
tbh my main issue with the game can't really be addressed, and that was lack of build variety, with every weapon type acting the exact same way.
The release of this game was so rough i probably wont go back but its cool to see they care and have been steadily fixing things
So because the release was rough, but now fixed and is a very good game you won’t play it? Makes zero sense
@@Cheddar_96 sorry my opinion offended you man but I don't think you took your time reading that
@@MastaBroshiX not offended one bit 💀☠️ you literally said you won’t go back because of the rough launch. My point still stands, makes zero sense.
@@Cheddar_96 😂
@@MastaBroshiX typical
Play the surge 2 if you enjoyed this also. You won’t be able to put it down and it’s harder than elden ring in the early game then eventually pure fun with a slight challenge
I’m not gonna lie man. I’ve been shitting on this game since playing. But I like the changes. You just made me want to try it again.
I think you did a great job on this review! I finished this game when it came out with all the issues. I will be going back to try out the new updates...after The Elden Ring DLC! Keep up the great work!
My favorite thing has always been the armor color changes.
That’s just so good. I love it. I wish old games would get with it.
Great video and very much needed by potential new players. Thx.
Really well made video….. u made want to buy the game even tho it has a lot of hate lol u have my subscription
Nice video, I remember seeing Lords of the Fallen and thinking it was a cool concept. Good to see it’s improved a lot, I might have to check it out when it comes out on Gamepass. 😁💚
Coop at launch actually worked almost flawlessly for me and a friend. We beat the game twice in a span of 3 days(100% pretty much).
love lords of the fallen, played throught the whole game with a friend thanks to its great multiplayer! more souls games need multiplayer like it
Great work. Really hope the devs will manage to build up on their strong foundations to make a better sequel!
Let's hope also some souls fans who may have missed it will buy it after being done with shadow of the erdtree 😁
Im buying ps5 for this game, Looks sick. VERY good video btw! Keep it up
