I will die on the hill that this game is one of the best souls likes of all time, the aesthetic alone keeps me coming back
I really enjoyed the Nioh-esque inclusion of ranged combat a lot, and the movesets for their longswords, greatswords, and even collossal swords
I will die on that hill beside you. This game is awesome. Beat it multiple times and kept it installed because I am going back in soon.
You're not alone. Its an amazing game.
Yes, just not as good as any of the from soft games, lies of P, or either Nioh
what did you think about lies of p?
If you're a souls-like fan, you owe it to yourself to check this out. It had a few frustrations at launch but the multiple updates have made it top notch. Tons of variation and great gameplay
What about bosses
@@zaksursw4054just started, 1st actual boss was such a cool fight. The miniboss in the area after was pretty cool too
Not really, it's annoying. People that like DS 2 might enjoy this game.
@@luxoflux5064 ive played elden ring, demon souls and lies of p which one should i try next
@@luxoflux5064 it's more ds1 than 2...
It is in fact a blast of a game. Absolutely love it. Looking forward to get back into it.
😂😂😂😂
This game is my Favorite Souls-like . Only one I've played several play throughs with different builds and will play more as time goes buy . Love the developers and hope to see a Second Part or DLC
I want an option to have enemies in Axiom not appear in umbral once you transition.
Nothing worse than dying to a squad of enemies, just to have them, plus an infinitely spawning squad of enemies now after you...while on a timer, until the red reaper shows up to 1 shot you.
It's the red reaper that's annoying beat him pretty early so it was funny to have the umbral enemies scared when in umbral.
As much as I know I sound like a soulsy nerd saying this, I really liked that. I loved the idea that you might not die truly the first time... but you are on a timer now, and shit just got a lot harder. Kind of like a souls gulag that sometimes you just have to go into, even if you know it means death.
My bro and I picked this up about a month ago, and play together on and off for about half of the game. It's a good game, frustrating at times but not unbearable. It's also beautiful and I enjoy the camera mode.
I always laugh at how there are so many different environments in the game even though the whole game pretty make takes place within the same 5 mile radius.
I just stumbled upon this video on my front page. I played at launch, but i will definetly check it out again now after watching this.
I think they should add a way to upgrade the lamp that allows you to plant more seeds. And when you plant it, if you exceed the number you can choose which to destroy. I think 2 or 3 is a perfect amount
that would be awesome
@@LuckyGhost u can only upgrade it 2x so just add a seed to each
As someone who enjoyed the game when it released both solo and co-op. I loved it and the issues/bugs were frustrating but didn’t hurt the experience much.
Recently came back to play NG+ and co-op with a friend new to the game and it’s in so much better shape than it was on release. Very stable. Tons of quality of life improvements and additions. Very stable with very few frame drops both solo and co-op. If it came out in this shape people would have loved this game.
I am looking forward to a full on loot and enemy randomizer on CONSOLE! First time I think a console souls have had these features.
Pre-upgraded loot, no vestige decay, original ad density are the modifiers on my NG+ playthrough and it’s great. Will be doing double randomizer next.
Too few people have given this game a receive after the improvements.
What console are you playing on? how good is the performance now?
@@JPAcuna3 Series X and frame drops were rare…. But even in the rare occasion it happens it doesn’t become unplayable. Compared to when the game released… especially in co-op it might as well be a different game. The frame drops when it released in co-op were awful and frustrating.
Now it’s so rare it’s a non-issue. Great game. Way underrated.
@@MrTmm97 Thanks for the quick reply, maybe i'll jump in eventually.
I love this game honestly. I Love the seemless co op. I also love the way they did the spells/throwables mechanics.. the game looks amazing and the world design is great and I like the whole umbral world idea too. I also love how you can change your armor colors. If these developers and fromsoft got together and made a game I can’t even imagine how good it would be.
I bought it at launch and had a great time with it. Looking forward to a possible sequel.
Totally worth a try. Never played the 2014 version so I avoided all those problems, but this is a little gem. Some bosses are very...very...VERY frustrating but there are some truly satisfyin combat mechanics, like the double weapon attack or the umbral concept.
So its ready now..
I love it when devs, listen to audience..
that's how you make die-hard fans, and that kind of fans bring more fans..
I put over 100 hours into this one at launch. Loved it. Jumping back in for a replay now and I forgot how much I liked this game. Really looking forward to the announced sequel and I’m glad the devs are committed to improving this one. One of the best non FS soulslikes out there, still the best looking (at least as far as visual fidelity, art style preference may vary) and the Umbral mechanic really made for interesting exploration. Lots of great ideas and an extremely solid first outing for this studio. Looking forward to what they do with the sequel now that they have a solid foundation.
I'm really excited to see how the sequel turns out. I feel like they learned a lot with this one, and the next one is going to be absolutely amazing
It's great to see the team actually updating this.
I know it's a different team from the first game, but the only that held me back from the first one was the camera swaying that you couldn't turn off. It would just make me nauseous
The Snipers in the back of every second encounter sure are recognizable
Never felt the seedling system was an issue. And enemy density never bothered me. Loved the game. My only gripe was the momentum of attack. If you perform a combo you would move past your enemy and make a wierd turn-around attack.
I loved this game but got busy and know to come back I was gonna have to re learn what I was doing. These updates kinda make me excited to get back into it.
I'm one of those players who gave up on Lords of the Fallen after about 20 hours. It was just frustrating because of the absurd enemy density, but above all because of the miserable performance on the PS5, even in performance mode! I felt the potential everywhere, I WANTED to love it, but it just didn't work. But your video convinced me to give the game another chance. I'm really excited. By the way, very cool video! Greetings from Germany!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy your playthrough 🙏
Please let us know how does it run on the PS5 right now 🙏
@@maxonaroll I've played the game for about three hours so far, defeated the first boss (I started a new game), and only had a few frame drops during the boss fight, but they were nowhere near as dramatic as before the patch! By the way, I'm playing in performance mode, the graphics mode still stutters (it‘s playable, but i need 60fps 😊)
Freaking love this game, beating it was a joy and one hell of a unique experience with the umbral world mechanic. Vestige placement was like, my only problem with the game really
I'm definitely gonna jump back into this at some point this year, just been busy with No Rest for the Wicked and prepping for Shadow of the Erdtree. This is a great game and I haven't finished my second playthrough but I will do another for sure after all these changes.
No rest for the wicked is one of the games I'm waiting on for ps5. I'm also prepping for SOTE! Picked up v rising yesterday too. Absolutely fantastic game. Also playing dark souls 3 dlc
@kevinmcarthur1784 yeah I was waiting for Wicked for PS5 also but just got a gaming PC so picked it up since it's not supposed to be out till 2025 for PS5, my first early access game. V Rising looked cool but I just got Last Epoch instead. I'm a pyscho cause I am doing Shadow of the Erdtree on PS5 with a high level character and also on PC with a low level character lol.
I brought it 4 days ago, tough start but once the combat clicks is awesome (playing with original spawns, it's awesome).
I was actually rooting for this game and was waiting for a great update/excuse to get it. Now I can say that it’s on my radar and once it gets to a decent price I’ll pick it up.
half price on steam now I'm on the fence debating wukong.
Couldn't get into Fromsoft games and the only other souls-like games I enjoyed are Nioh and Wo Long, but those deviated a bit too much from the traditional souls formula. Lords of the Fallen is the first "traditional" souls game that hooked me completely. Something about the atmosphere and lore intrigued me and the gameplay itself is faster than Dark Souls, while still not being completely different like the games made by Koei. Overall an extremely underrated game which I personally hope will grow more in time.
With a second one announced recently you will be happy
You should try bloodborn or lord of p souls like but faster combat
Lies of p
Wo-long? Lol
i remember playing the game when it first came out and less than 10 minutes into the game my character fell through the map and got stuck under the ground, i couldnt move or do anything and I tried closing and coming back and loaded in under the map again, i cant remember how but i found a way to die, it crashed my game and i loaded back in alive under the map again. I decided to make a new character and every single time i did my game crashed the second the first UNSKIPPABLE 10 minute or wtv cutscene finished. I let the cutscene play 8 times after restarting 8 times and kept crashing, so i put the game down and have yet to try it since. But after this vid I might give it another try here soon.
I gave up on this game for a few months. Just started a fresh go with modifiers and it's been a different experience. On to the fourth boss and really enjoying it.
Which system are you playing it on?
Game is super fun. The umbral infinite spawns was rough af though
Truee
I played this a year after it came out so I can't comment on how bad it was initially. It's not dark souls 2 bad. It's not dark souls 3 good. Thank fuck they're making a sequel because there's always baby teeth for a first game. It deserves a sequel and if they iron out some of the gimmick boss fights they'll be good
Love this game. Definitely going back
Already loved the game. Going to pick it up for ps5 on payday ❤
Bro is on sale ps5 rn
It's on gamepass too if you have that.
Great video. Sounds like they have made a lot of important and meaningful changes. I very well might pick this up for $30
these new updates look AWESOME! And I completely agree about leveling up new weapons ❤🔥
This is supposed to be the Dark Souls 2 with unreal engine 5 version
Played the 2014 LOTF, and liked it. Never tried this one though
pointless comment wtf😭
I beat the 1st game and i really like how the 2nd turned out, very different than what it was before 😂
I was farming the mobs/bosses with my build at fast pace once the build was up but it got real mundane real fast after realizing that this game has a % based damage under the wraps and same move-sets for a given weapon type, and that killed it for me.
I planned to play this with a friend back at launch, but i believe it launched at the same time as another game (D4?) so i never got to play it. my friend showed me this video and we're gonna play it later today! :D
Turning out to be a good game, I've had no problems wit it, except for the keyboard controls for jumping.
yeah jumping in the game is a bit jank, really wish jump just had a dedicated hotkey like in Elden Ring, as opposed to having to run in order to jump (like in dark souls)
I've wanted to try it since the launch but never get the time to do so. Picking this up as soon as I finish Final Fantasy Rebirth and Astro Bot. 😭
Im so glad you can keep enemy density on if you want. It makes for a fun challenge.
Just bought this beast dirtcheap and looking forward trying it out.
This is one of the best soulslikes out there. Everyone should play it.
This game is now for sale on GOG for the lowest prices u'll ever see
The challenge runs will be crazy
I’ve just finished the game it’s on game pass Brilliant game going start new game plus now. 👍
That’s was fast! What build? I’m currently on a strength. Big hammer and a Great sword.
well I will re-install and give it a try again nice to see all these updates, cause it was fun but exhausting.
Thanks, Lucky. I'll have to check this one out.
This vide is essentially a paid advertisement. The game still runs like ass (especially on higher-end PCs). Wait for a deep discount.
I'm currently playing this Lords of the fallen now and it's awesome and loving it but only issue I have is trying to kill the scarlet shadow (red reaper) he ridiculous OP and damn hard to kill especially when have constant annoying mobs of enemies aswell attacking you and didn't help at all they constant patches ways of defeating it are stupid also they didn't fix the lock-on it still terrible and sucks
i think this is one of the best imo
Agreed!
Do you see this arrowhead? I can only wish😢
Ive been with this game since the second it went retail, as im sure some of you here have been as well. As of July 25th 2024 it is in the ultimate state of Lords of the Fallen. The game was always good, now its sick. If i could offer some insight, I have this on both PS5 and Series X. One series x the lock on is still infuriatingly inaccurate. PS5 has wonderful enemy lock friction. Preformance has plenty of overhead on Series X, but its still a bit droopy in Quality mode. But if your on the fence and you like gross, fucked up imagery and violent combat then LOTF got you.
I recognized it immediately
Now I need this!
Game still looks amazing, I'm happy to hear that they've kept at it and fixed it up. I suck at easy games, so I won't be playing it, but I will admire it from afar with dreamy eyeballs.
I wish this game had more enemy variety. Feels like we fought the same enemies from the beginning to the end. I still loved many things about this game and really love the Umbral/Axiom concept
My game file corrupted so I've got to start again, if it happens again I won't be finishing the game
The enemy density when the game first came out, was one of the best things about it. It turns the game into more of a hack n slash giving it its own identity and you had the tools and the weapons to combat it. It was literally just a case of get good. I’m really happy about the modifiers now that let you go back to it.
My favorite souls like
Coop with story progression.. its the same in remnant 2.. only the host progressed story.
Does the game now have acceptable hitboxes?
Such a great game. Can’t wait to see what they do with the sequel
I played the game several times at launch, and I'm in the middle of another play through right now. My take, if you didn't like this game at launch, you won't like it now. Yes there are fewer enemies, and a lot of other little changes, but as far as the minute to minute gameplay, and combat loop goes, it's virtually the same game. You'll appreciate the updates if you already liked what the game had to offer, if not, it's just not for you, imo.
Haven’t beaten the game quite yet. Started it a while back(before most of the updates) and I’m about to start playing it again. Is the Conjegator boss harder now?
this game is a 9/10 for me, would be 10/10 if most the hair on your CAC didnt clip through your head when you make him/her skinny! great video!
Beat it a few days ago the level design is so confusing and annoying failed most npc quests simply because i never met or seen them again.
I finished the game before they patched the enemy density.. And yes playing this game was like hell, but I loved it.. My disappointment was that the bosses were boring.. like I went through all that just to meet a boring boss..
Poor devs. If they made their own game engine optimized for their own combat and rendering then they would have released like Fromsoftware. Unreal Engine is destined to be a bloat and performance bottleneck. It is an opinioted set of tools which tries to fill all the bags.
Why would you want to put more than 1 seedling down? I feel like that would be too easy. You can't just drop bonfires in souls games.
Because souls games put bon fires everywhere you need them. This game doesn't, because it wants you to use seedlings to fill the gaps. You end up with a lot of large grindy gaps between locations with only 1 seedlings at a time
@@LuckyGhost yeah you just have to git gud and master the area. You can put one where you need it but you don't need to put one every 20 feet.
@@chefroxstarr9467 your 5 IQ response is disappointing, thought I was engaging in an interesting conversation. Oh well
Wish matchmaking was a bit better. Its hard to get people to summon or be summoned
Beat the game 6x, and every play through it feels like they buff the bosses despite me not playing on new game+.
Maybe if we haven't played Elden Ring or Dark Souls, we MIGHT have liked it "a bit". But regardless there are some stuff I couldn't digest. Like the umbral lamp thing and how much we have to use it. Also being able to sprint like Usein Bolt is also annoying. Gave this game more than one chance but not only did it not hook me, it frustrated me...
Personally as someone who has an unhealthy amount of hours, the game is still really fun
They need to let us disable hud
Guys. Don't fall for the psyop trying to convince you that the game is good now. They're the same people who said the game was great at release. Every change they made is barely a workaround fix for what was terrible design. Yes it is technically better than at release, but at that point it's less worse.
All times rating on steam is 62%, recent rating is 65%. You decide what you play obviously, just don't get deceived by people calling it the game of the century.
It would be good if it was optimised.
Wait they upped the difficulty of the bosses? Just started the game. Think I've put like 10ish hours and the bosses have felt like pushovers, and you're saying they've been buffed? Huh
Skill issue, your just good lmao
Isnt this pretty old by now like an xbox one launch title? Have they been updating it recently?
This is the sequel to the game you're referring to (same name so your confusion is warranted)
great fucking game... started playing less than a week ago, and it sometimes lags like crazy in certain spots... when entering the magma area before Pieta, it lagged for like.. 7 seconds with about 5 fps or less... worst part was that it happened everytime I died... luckily it wasn't as difficult as I thought... so.. Great! isn't it?! no... there are still a few spots in which it drops frames at an unplayable state... it once happened as I was fighting some weak mobs, never against bosses...
This game feels like if Dark souls 2 was an actual game
(Xbox series S)
Then it will shock you to know that Dark Souls 2 has very positive reviews on Steam. The opinion of the minority has nothing to do with the opinion on the majority, and most loved it.
Xbox series s is crap
This game is so good breh stop watching this video and go play it
Im glad I wait for updates, saw some streamers playing it and did not like what I saw, it was like DS2 with endless enemies and no bonfires. Now Im having a good time, is a good game, not great and needs to find their own charm, is good enough thought.
Game is super dope. I do hate the DLC though. The randomizer sucks.
Just started my first playthrough. I can not understand all the hate. Too much comparison to Lies of P. Ofc LOTF was Released unready, but many Games that are consisred masterpieces now were released in a Bad condition.
If lies of p was released a year before or just today, People would have loved LOTF. And guys please Play Mortal Shell, PLEASE!!
mortal shell was a solid game
Your 100% right. It’s all because of both games coming out at the same time that it turned into basically a political debate that people had to choose a side.. your either a lie so of p fan or lotf fan... not both. 🙄
@@netterz3411 which is so weird to me. I'm just a souls-like fan, which works out great for me. I can play more awesome games!
Great
honestly, the game dont know if it want to be a hack and slash or a soul-like. I hope they decided on the genre more carefully for the next game. those two genre seem alike, but they are completly different, and do not go well with each other.
Is this supposed to be a negative or positive comment? I can’t really tell and as a person that loves the souls trilogy very much, this game was amazing and incredibly fresh and fun. There are of course differences, but the games never felt like a hack and slash, just a easier or more forgiving game
@@Rank17Legend honestly I dont like the game, so i might be biased. ut I dont feel like the game is committed to the soul likes genre. it take some systems from soul likes, but its not really a soul likes. its more akin to a hack and slash game, given how much enemies they throw at you. not to mention the enemies dont have a limited agro range, so they will chase you to the end of the earth, so the game dont want you to do the quick run pass enemies tactic either. I feel like the game take aspect from souls game, but didn’t commit to be a souls like, and it feel half ass.
Can you turn on more than one modifier or only one
You can turn on multiple at the same time
I noticed that upgraded loot drops according to your level- it seems every 10 levels of your character increases loot +1 - example my level 37 character only gets weapons of +3 upgrade
Right, thats how it works. The explanation in the video is wrong.
But is it better than ER or DS3?
No I wouldn't say its better. Its a great alternative once you've beaten those however
Iike Lords of the Fallen, I was on NG+7 before I moved on, But I will say this game can't touch Elden Ring or Lies of P.
That's impressive. How many times did you replay lies of p?
Idgaf what anyone says. This is one of my favorite games of all time.
Whats new? All I see is improvements but no dlc since the three new armor sets
I loved it. Glitches and all
The best thing about this game is the storytelling.
elden ring is my most favourite souls like
How does this compare to Lies of P?
This is less linear, so a lot more exploration and secrets to find. Lies of p combat felt a little more consistent. Both great games
Lol Lies Of P is way better in everyway.
It's hard to say which I love more right now. The nice part about Lies of P is that it's more story focused with you being at the center of the action, while LOTF just like any Dark Souls game is lore focused, with the player character having only a minor role in the world.
To me personally I don’t care about game difficulty, I never did. I only care about the game’s setting, aesthetic or the overall atmosphere. Dark souls is beautiful and i simply can never find this beauty in deck 13 games. With all due respect, their games feel so generic like your typical American emo type stuff that just makes me hesitant to buy every single time. Screw the gameplay man, as i said I don’t care about the gameplay, the gameplay is just a bonus for me. You can never convince me to play lords of the fallen when half of the enemies look like your typical goons from madmax or literally any post apocalyptic world. Gameplay isn’t everything, world building is also a major factor in making a good game (not just the lore, literally everything)
So I take it you never really touched the game if you think the atmosphere here is lacking? Because the setting with the blood crusaders and you needing to be constantly in the shadow realm (an oversold) is absolutely amazing. It looks really Cthulhu-esque.
best souls like game period.
Lies of P has that title.
Try lies of p! You’ll dig that
Bloodborne #1 kids
Lies of p is pure trash. No coop, even more garbage.
Thats not really a souls Like its by fromsoft so its the original basically@@AnthonyRamirezX
Same moveset killing it for me
It sucked when it came out but want to like it. Maybe ill give it a try.
Naaah.
Lies of P is way better then this for now.
But im sure they might be able to tie up with doing more updates that help us instead of destroying us.
Lies is trash in every way. You can't even play coop, can't be more useless even for free.
@@spacemultimedia2979 It was never meant to be a Coop game that's not a bad thing like Sekiro
I was obsessed back then and i loved the game even more now that its been fine tuned. The combat is so fluid. If you played this and went back to elden ring the clunkiness is unbearable
