Dragon quest 9 was my favorite tbh. I grew up playing that one with my buddies. I remember us all getting together to go through the grottoes and beat all the bosses together. I remember it being brutally hard at first, but once we mastered classing and comboing we would have a blast. I’ve put thousands of hours into that one as the content is nearly endless. And I remember the sheer joy of beating all the nasties. I also loved 6 but. 9 holds my heart. There’s something special about it, all the dragon quests at that. Those games bring me a sense of joy no other games do. The lovable characters and townsfolk, the interesting quests, and the captivating simplicity draw me in as I explore the beautiful worlds joined by a beautiful symphony fit perfectly for the situations. Dragon quest never fails me, and 11 is one of the most enchanting ones thus far. If you’ve never played dragon quest, pick it up. Anyone can play it with ease, and EVERYONE will love it. Unless you don’t like turn based combat in which case ur a pussy go die

The added party chat in those games are criminally underrated. I spent like an extra hour in each town purely just from talking to everybody and seeing what my party has to say about what each NPC says, and then when something happens story-wise the NPC's all say something else, and the party members have responses to those too! They don't even have that type of extensive party chat in DQ anymore just because it was so much extra dialogue and work

Dragon Quest 4 was my first real foray into the DQ universe. I loved it from start to finish. I quickly picked up Dragon Quest 5 and at that point I was 100% hooked on the series. What hurts the most is that Dragon Quest 10 has been held back form the US and Europe. For years I've dreamed of a Dragon Quest MMORPG and it's agonizing to know that there is one but that we can't play it.

  • @nuimee5884
    @nuimee5884 5 лет назад +9

DQ9 was the first title I played and is still my favorite for its sheer endless content. The endgame can easily keep you busy for several hundred hours and even if you found all grotto bosses, got the best equipment, found and cooked every alchemy recipe and finsihed all side quests, there's still the class system to discover.
Yes, its challenging, but personally, I got the impression that 11 is much more so.
And the fairy tagging along with your lead makes up for not having party members, she is hilarious.
The story may seem convaluted at first glance, but there is never an instance where it doesn't make sense and by the end, everything falls into place nicely. In addition to that, the towns you visit have some very charming (and heartbreaking) stories on their own as you'd expect from this series.

@@ruggie.74 There were even times kids from school will see a free day in Japan when a new Dragon Quest comes out. Heck, the series is even so popular there that even the new upcoming Yakuza 7 is sending a tribue to the franchise. And I do think Dragon Quest XI was quite popular in the west and will be even more popular now on the Switch.
The first DQ game I played through was Dragon Quest IX by the way. Which caught me by surprise when they talked about the game in the video. I stay away from Souls like games and brutal punishing JRPG's. And actually, Dragon Quest IX wasn't that hard. The final boss can be a challenge but the whole game shouldn't be a problem when you played properly through the game.
The second narrator in the video is unfortunately hard to hear because he is not loud enough ;/

DQV was the first RPG I remember playing in any significance...ever. From there, I developed an interest in RPGs, found out what a good other RPG was on the market, and landed on Final Fantasy USA III (VI). To this day, I would say it is my all time favorite in terms of at-the-time enjoyment and was really the first RPG I bought, and played from beginning to end. At the time I didn't have a lot of money or games and I'm so so glad it ended up being that one. I also was lucky enough to have a copy of DQVI shipped to me shortly after release and loved that game as well, though I couldn't fully read Japanese, I could read enough to get by...barely.
I'd say retrospectively, I am very impressed with the full 3D world and vast world map of DQ8. I'll hold my judgement as I have yet to play 11, but the zoning put me off as I loved the open world of 8. I also enjoyed the super famicom remake of 3. I have never played 7, 9, 10, or 11 but generally don't have much interest, save for 11 which I would like to play. Also interestingly, I've played every single Dragon Quest up till now in Japanese, but for some reason, seek to play 11 in English!? Not sure why the change of heart...but with my limited Japanese reading ability, I never truly followed all of the little details of the story and maybe older me is now interested in those details?
I love some of the FF series, but I also love DQ!
Fun fact that I'm sure many of you know - Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest were, at least in the early days, 2 of the biggest RPG series in Japan. Final Fantasy was by Squaresoft, and Dragon Quest was by Enix. At some point I forget, the companies merged (I believe Square swallowed Enix) and they renamed to how they are known now - Square Enix.

III and IX are still my favorites in the franchise. Such great stories, customization, and fun adventures to be had.
In IX's case; with Yuji Hori and the devs throwing around remaking it in the DQXI engine, the Switch is a perfect console for it to come to. Switch local and online multiplayer? Day Zero.
Also; it is a damn shame we never got DQX in the west. The game is great; from what I hear, and looks like a blast for those who can get past the whole MMO aspect. If FFXI and FFXIV can prove that they can be some of the best games in their respective franchise, I think its only fair to see if DQX can be given a fair shake.

I've been recently trying to figure out which Dragon Quest to play. I only have an Xbox, or a 2DS (with the ability to play original DS games). Looking up what to play, I see most people say 5, 8, or 9 are the go-to games to play. 5 being the best story usually, and 9 having the most content. But I've also heard people say that 9 is heavily based around multiplayer, which isn't a thing nowadays. I've seen some people claim 8 is one of the best DQ games in general.
So, I still dunno what to play. At best I've narrowed it down to three games. Might just give 8 a shot first since it'll be the nicest looking one on 3DS. Then hop back to 5, followed by 9.

I purchased Dragon Quest IX in 2010 when on holiday in France as a 10 year old, only having seen it in the official UK Nintendo magazine and never having played any other DQ title. I saw it as a fun looking game, and it being a turn based RPG like Pokemon (I was a Pokemon mega fan) really appealed to me. I proceeded to play it on and off with the same save for several months and the difficulty was probably what also got me as I struggled to beat one of the bosses and wasn’t knowledgable enough to think of grinding or strategies to prepare (In Pokemon diamond I first beat Cynthia with a lvl 100 torterra and lvl 30 team haha). After a while off, I committed myself later in the year and accidentally grinded my teams levels up whilst looking for cool items for them to wear, which gave me hope as I beat that boss and made my way through the game and beat the final bosses. DQIX is still probably my favourite ever DQ game to date because of the extreme nostalgia it brings me now as a 20 year old Uni student. I’m about to make the leap back to DQ with DQ 11S this weekend when I buy a switch and the title and I cant wait. This game combines the DQ I know and love with very palatable graphics and sound, stunning visuals and a new story (for me). I fear this may cause me to get behind on my uni work, but I’m sure it is a worthy cause! (Sorry for rambling, hope someone finds joy in my story haha.

Also for the record I did not once use cheats until a few years ago when I wanted to replay the game for its story but didn’t want to have the issue of grinding and/or dying and being reset as an issue. My first run through as a pre-teen was fully off my own back, without even consulting a guide for what to do next. Yes it took me >250 hours to complete the game haha

My top 5 games of the series:
    5. Dragon Quest VII
    4. Dragon Quest IV
    3. Dragon Quest XI
    2. Dragon Quest V
    1. Dragon Quest VIII
While I would highly recommend this series to anyone who likes RPGs, I would especially say DQV and DQVIII are must-plays. The others are great as well, but there's just something really special about those two entries that make them special. DQXI almost managed to reach their level, but the disappointing last third of the story dragged it down for me.

Hey, the content of the video is great! Love the series and you explained everything really well.
But if I may, I wanted to give you two advices. One is that the music is too loud compared to your speech. It’s nice to hear the music, but I think it was clashing with your voice.
The other is that it would be nice to see footage from more version. Like when you were taking about the 3DS version of VIII and VII.

Heard about DQ when VIII came out. I thought the Voice Acting was great, along with the
difference between day and night. Sometimes I would stop playing just to watch some of the fantastic Sunsets, or to watch the Moon move slowly through the sky. I would play it with different builds, the best one was a 'No Weapons'' using only hand or magic attacks.

I've been looking for Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games on the DS/3DS to play. It sucks that there's like, 3 entire main Dragon Quest entries on DS/3DS that were never released in english. As for Final Fantasy, the only main-line games on the DS/3DS were remakes of 3 and 4. No original main-line games, at all. And not much at ALL on the 3DS.
I love JRPGs in general. But at the same time, I haven't played a ton of 'em. I've never really touched Final Fantasy 1-6 (otherwise known as the 2D FF games). I played 7 and 8, but not 9. I played FFX, but not X-2. I played 12, owned by never really played 13, haven't touched 14, and played 15.
As for Dragon Quest, I haven't touched any of them outside of the more recent XI on Xbox, and even then I only played that for like 2-3 hours.
I really like 'em, but at the same time, I have a hard time finding one that clicks with me, ya know? It's hard for me to trudge through a grindy RPG if I don't really get into it. If it hooks me though, I'll sit and play for ages. Then again, I'm also limited to Xbox, DS, 3DS, or Game Boy and Game Boy Advance. Anything on any other console, I can't play.

Dhalmagus was not the court jester. After learning of the staff of Trodain (Godbird Sceptre) He set out to play as a magician in Trodain. After a performance infront of king Trode he was given a stay at the castle for the night, so he took that advantage to steal the sceptre. Little did he know the sceptre is cursed and the rest is told in more backstory

Lol I remember I used play the hell out of a demo of DQ8 on PS2 but I could never find the full game on PS2 mostly because I was just a kid and the internet wasn't really a thing. I bought the original Dragon Warrior back in 89 and I hated it at the time. I was more accustomed to the more in-depth PC games of the time that it was influenced by. I hadn’t touched a DQ game until DQ8. Today it’s my preferred JRPG series as others seemed to lose their identity as DQ maintained it’s foundation to this day...

    • @capcom23
      @capcom23 5 лет назад

yes. just look at Final Fantasy... that aint a fantasy game anymore. Very realistic and futurestic setup. That's not what I liked about the earlier true FF series. After FFXII I haven't touched any other one. FFXIII forced players to reach max level at certain chapter... so that level cap killed it for me and sold the game right away. It's not their decision how a player should play a game. If I want to power up more I will gain more levels or if I want a challenge I won't battle that much and go straight to a boss. But at least it's my choice. They took that away and I hate that when they do that. That game is trash!
