  • Tom Delgado walks you around Battery Park City, a neighborhood created in the early 80's in Lower Manhattan, which is the oldest part of the city. It was made from landfill from the construction of the original World Trade Center. In the video, Tom talks about the Statue of Liberty, the Hudson River, New Jersey, and the Berlin Wall. Shot by Eric Thirteen.

Great to see the less stressed Tom dropping all his amazing knowledge and riffing here and there with the funny stuff, which is what makes this the best YT Tour vlog. There’s room also definitely for the self-screened walk-n-talk, which adds another dimension - an evolution. Thanks so much for sharing your unique insights. Love it

Thank you for this video. I grew up in Manhattan's Chinatown in the late 70s to the early 80s. Left for the Air Force in 1985. From 1979 up to the time I left, this is one of my usual spots when I am out riding my bicycle. Usually start at Chinatown, down to the Twin Towers, hung out there for a bit and then down to this area, Battery Park. In the early 80s, it was much more gritty and crime was rampant. Needless to say, my U-lock came in handy in some cases. Battery Park at night was not safe in those days. I remember when the entire downtown was eerily quiet on the weekends. Tourist never came down this area. I watched as they built Battery Park City and all those Condos that went up. It made the place much better and a lot safer. One of my Battery Park story. July 4th 1983. I was in the crowd with a friend vying for a spot to watch the evening fireworks. I felt a hand reach in to the back of my pants. By the time I turned around, some guy ran off with my wallet. "He's got your wallet!" yelled my friend. I said "Don't worry, its a decoy wallet". I always carried an extra wallet in my back pocket with a note that said SUCKER on it. Another observation I want to share. You are filming this in the afternoon sometime. Back then, in the afternoons, that pier, the water level was at least 20-25 below what it is now. Look at it now! Just wanted to share this Climate observation. Back to my bicycle story. After riding around here at night, I always ended up by Pier 17. This was the time only the outer structure was built (summer of 85). After I joined the Air Force, I was stationed in Virginia so I return often and really enjoyed Pier 17, Battery Park City and lower Manhattan. Great memories. Thank you Tom.

Tom, before you were born, I took my first stroll down to Battery Park and listened to a band called LENINGRAD CALLING. Heading back northeast, I really had to piss bad. Spotted a windowless building with a shrub in a half barrel out front. As I was relieving myself, I looked up. It said:
    PRECINCT 1
yep, I pist on the cops😆

Tom, my wife and I love watching your videos. We are always blown away by your general knowledge. Thank you for showing the pieces of the Berlin Wall during your Battery Park walk. As teachers we were amazed to see pieces of the wall in NYC. It’s incredible to me that pieces of history such as the Berlin Wall can stand in NYC and people walk past it everyday and wouldn’t even know it was there or the significance of the wall. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Hi Tom I’m sitting hear watching Tucker Carlson on Fox Nation “Tucker Carlson Today” and he’s interviewing Mark Stein and his vast knowledge of many subjects made me think of you for a couple of reasons. One he’s very humorous and Two he’s very knowledgeable and he combines his knowledge with his humor which in turn has made him very popular and successful. You have said you are also a Standup Comic and I wondered if you used you vast knowledge of NYC in your acts on stage ie combining the History of NYC and it’s so many. Interesting people within it’s history and the historical events of the City. I can’t help but think you could develop your own stick (Like Rodney Dangerfield had his own style like no one else’s) Just thinking of you Tom.
