wow, this is super interesting and i'm happy it was at the top of my recommendations *update:* after actually having watched most of this, i'm glad i clicked and commented on it
Excellent and informative video sir! I’ve lived in the city for over 20 years now but still appreciated this. You have an interesting channel here too and I just subscribed. Cheers from a fellow NYC RUclipsr.
I gotta tell ya, Tom truly hits the bullseye of my funny bone, while also teaching me some stuff about the city I was born in. Somehow, his snarky, intelligent, compelling, sarcastic, weird- yet clearly genuine- way, fits me like a dirty water dog in a cold hard hot dog bun. Blech! Tom, you’re awesome. Long may you not get hit by history hating biker bros. Thanks for doing this, and goddamnit why hasn’t a network, streaming service, or even the Travel Channel, picked your RUclips show for their broadcast? You rock! I’m a fan.
Bro, history lesson and a show. You are hilarious! Not a local nor do I live there but I consider Manhattan my 2nd home. I look forward to your channel! New subscriber, Richard
Always good, informative. I appreciate that you want people to know New York City. I didn't realize just how pretty some of New York is, never having been there. Thanks.
And, The Jeffersons (We're movin' on up. . .!) 185 E. 85th and The Odd Couple (early years theme iteration) 1055 Park Ave. As a kid growing up on 84th Street, we used to get a kick out of living in a neighborhood that was so often featured on TV and in the movies.
Tom D. the ultimate Sick Plug man! Awesome video Tom. That's my hood. I was born at Lenex Hill Hospital in last May 1987. My brother was born in the same hospital early January 1989. My dad and uncle are from Lower East Side.
Back in the day at Christmas WPIX used to show a fire burning in the fireplace at Gracie Mansion and played Christmas music for about three hours or so. Good memories!
Had to take a short break after seeing the fountain. Anyway, I was in Gracie Mansion at one of Mayor Giuliani's parties where he hosted people from the UN on the 4th of July. The event took place mostly outside on the grass but I got to spend a few moments inside the mansion. A large central room flanked by many, many doors to different side rooms. The mayor had something going on because he was darting feverishly across from one room to another. He was obviously working and he could not interact much with party guests. The place is all very old wood in constant need of refinishing. Keeping that place up has to be a career position.
Great video, Tom. I used to be around the upper East Side to travel to my H.S. from 2014 - 2018. I remembered when the M86 bus became a select bus (2015 or 2016) and the Q train arrived in 2017. It was worth the changes (investment)😎💯
shout out from a Yorkville resident! you must have shot this last week. I can tell from that ugly new high-rise they're just finishing up on 86th and 3rd. Nice job my hilarious buddy.
I highly recommend the book "Meet You in Hell: Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and the Bitter Partnership That Changed America" by Les Standiford. One of the themes I wasn't expecting was the lengths Carnegie and Frick went to in order to prevent the workers who did the most dangerous work from getting increase in wages. The book is chock full of interesting stories. That said, maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I'm still grateful for all their contributions to the arts.
I used to work at The Frick, Legends has it that a tunnel connects The Frick Mansion to the Carnegie Mansion. They had people looking for it at the time I was employed there.
Tom: "That was pretty good, right Eric?" Eric: "Probably." 😂🤣 I didn't know Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Guggenheim Museum. The last building designed is about a mile from where I grew up in San Rafael, CA. Love this one, thank you Tom!
Tom I enjoy listening to the narration of your history telling, you do keep it real, you never leave nothing out, especially when you talk about native people and slaves, you know today's culture out there don't want to talk about the truth because some how it offends them and stuff! But people like you need to keep talking about it so it could be heard and let the truth be truth. Anyway I'd like to see more videos of history like from the 70s and 80s, I see some films on RUclips from that Era and new York looked like a war zone and just crazy. Well OK .
First of all, Great job Tom...You're the best! Notice: While he was laying down on the bench, he had in his left pocket what looks to be a Samsung charger for his phone...Please do confirm Archibald...
Great work Tom, and thanx Eric. I see there is an obvious problem on the UES, no good piles of trash bags to sit on while eating your banana. Damn those snobs! So glad your vertebrae are healing. You’ll be ready for that next Matrix movie cameo!
I second Scott's remarks, why hasn't Tom been picked up by some bogie historian, or some streaming service juggernaut. SMH. Anywho, i truly enjoy Tom's video's. It's whats helped me endure the pandemic, and also given me a genuine appreciation of the city i was born and raised in. Tom you're awesome! Maybe I can somehow convince you to tour my high school class into doing a field day around one of these monumental areas in this beautiful island of Manhattan.. Keep up the great work that you do.
I love what you do.. but, if you actually lived through the 70's or 80s on the upper east side south of Lexington.. death was at your door step; especially in the 86-96th streets. I feel this topic was understated greatly; maybe it's a "you had to be there thing" it's what movies are made of. It's possible the internet doesn't have that info.. a library archive might expand this topic greatly I think you missed out on the ferry disaster in the east river where many immigrants died right there where the promenade is today. I'm not saying this to be critical but to help your amazing channel.
You finally made it the UES! I’ve lived in Carnegie Hill for 25 years and of course a big fan of your videos. I love NYC but love my home hood.
The picture of the dog after the dark story of the ship sinking was a hilarious moment 😂😂 way to lighten up the mood
Tommy D posted a new video??? I feel alive again!
Thanks Tom and Eric for another great video
Thanks Tom that tour really gave me more of how the East Side was developed and where it encompasses. 👊🏻
Absolutely fantastic content 👏🏿🎯
Thanks for the wonderful Upper East Side video. How you remember all the history is impressive!

Travel channel doesn't do travel anymore despite their name. It's all ghosts and crap. It's really turned into shit like MTV and so many networks 😟

Thanks.
Mr. Drummond's apartment building in the TV show Diff'rent Strokes is at 900 Park Avenue in the Upper East Side.

Great video Tom! You're inspiring me for my own video walking in the streets. !

I binged watched all your videos and noticed you didn’t have one on The Upper Eastside. Here it is 😎🍾🎊
Haha 😂 you’re so natural….. love your channel
It’s Eric’s response for me. “Probably!” Lol.
Love your videos! ❤️

The best tour guide!

What do you think Eric, should we keep it moving ?
Love your videos, keep it up!
I liked this just because of the Barbra Streisand impression.

💯💯💯 history needs to be learned, the good and the bad. It shouldn't be offensive because it's a thing called "life"

Always waiting for your Bob Dole impression.
Hey RUclips let's get this guy bumped! I want a world where people are really stopping Tom asking him to sign their "hotdogs and stuff".
Great work Tom, and thanx Eric. I see there is an obvious problem on the UES, no good piles of trash bags to sit on while eating your banana. Damn those snobs! So glad your vertebrae are healing. You’ll be ready for that next Matrix movie cameo!

Very Interesting Tom----enjoyed this. But TOM, it is time for a haircut. Do yourself a favor and see a barber---and keep up the good work too.
