    I have seen the comments on this video, hailing Queen Elizabeth as a monster...among other....colorful....names, but I have seen this movie many times AND I have read the true accounts of what happened following the tragic death of the Princess Diana, and I actually think the Queen's reaction was very human. Yes, she initially failed to follow the "expectations" of her nation following Diana's death, but from what I have read, it wasn't because she was a cold-hearted monster....quite the opposite in fact. She truly was more concerned about caring for her grandchildren who had just lost their mother. She stayed with them at Balmoral rather than coming to London and she apparently took them to church to pray only hours after their father broke the news to them. And when all was said and done, she DID come to Buckingham Palace and appeared with the children before her people and in doing so, she won their respect and love again. She is a Queen, but we have to remember she is also human....and in the wake of a death in the family, she did what she believed was best which was be there to support her grandsons.

Did they want Elizabeth to "ease their grief" when a neighbor died? A coworker? Most of them didnt even know Diana. But those two boys did. It was THEIR grief that took priority. She did exactly as she should have dine by putting those boys first. Even more respect to her for doing so. The "its all about me and my grief" narcissism of the public during a time when two children lost their mother, was pathetic.

      It was a well-done movie whether you like or hate the Monarchy. The Queen totally misjudged the charisma and adulation that Diana had over the public and woefully misjudged the shock and horror people felt when she died. Had the Queen made one lousy statement, something to the effect of: 'we're shocked and saddened by Diana's death but would ask for some privacy as William and Harry try to come to terms with their mother's death', then the people wouldn't have been so pissed off.
      The fact that she refused to have Diana's name included in the prayers at church the next morning or lower any of the flags at any of the royal residences, spoke volumes. She eventually lowered the flag at BP but only after several heated arguments with top courtiers who were pressuring her to "do something". All in all, her actions and inactions in the days after Diana's death were appalling and the world was 'not amused'.

    The movie was entertaining, but a very poor portrayal of Her Majesty. Even though Helen Mirren’s face bears a slight resemblance to Elizabeth, her portrayal was, IMHO, offensive. Queen Elizabeth II had lovely legs, not the tree stumps of Mirren, who walked like a manish, spray footed truck driver, Her Majesty was feminine, graceful. Mirren’s stone face, never smiling, was not true to Elizabeth. She had a sweet smile, a pleasant face, not the miserable face Mirren portrayed. Her Majesty could be sharp, to the point, but never rude. The portrayal of Prince Philip was a bit over done. The Queen Mum was probably the most accurate. I got the impression, the director of this film was not a fan of the Monarchy, especially Elizabeth II.
    When the film came out, inside reports said Her Majesty didn’t say much, but privately was “not amused”.

    I wounder if Allister Campball is as slimey as he is portrayed in the film. He was sort of the villian in this some might argue.

    To me she was a dead ringer for Elizabeth Windsor.

    I wonder if the Queen had a problem with Diana? But she is our Queen and we honour her we respect her.This is wrong what happened in the movie Diana is a nice beautiful young lady and she would have been great now if she was here someone is behind this that they need to open the case and find out so some of us are at peace. If you get what I mean

      Hidden World the Queen did have a problem with Diana, everyone in the royal family did. The establishment was actually happy when Diana got divorced as well as died. They didn't know they almost got wiped out in 1997.

      Meryl doesn't need another Oscar, and TDWP is overrated. Miranda Priestly wasn't even anything like the real Anna Wintour.

    • @brontewcat
      @brontewcat 5 лет назад +1

      Lady Janell of Lakeland. It was a mini series. I can’t remember it’s name. It may have been something like Elizabeth I. It was much better than the Cate Blanchett movie as it was far more accurate. The absolute best portrayal of Elizabeth I (imho) is Glenda Jackson in the BBC Elizabeth R. The actor researched the role by reading every biography written to the 1970s. The script writers did their research as well. The costumes are largely based on portraits of the Queen and other women at the time. The sets looked like proper Tudor palaces. It may not be as exciting as the movie, but it is far more interesting.
