    anyone thinking of painting or bedlining their chrome bumpers or trimming. you better do it correct because it will peel in 6 months..chrome is a finish that is tough to make paint stick to. the process for painting over anything chrome is to scruff it up with 80 grit sand paper. make sure its scruffed to the point where you dont have any shiny finish.. then clean the surface with acetone from homedepot with a rag. go to your local auto zone or home depot again and grab an epoxy primer. the epoxy primer is the toughest primer you can put that would grab the paint ike its its first cousin. after you spray with the primer let it dry for 24 to 36 hours as epoxy is a slow setting compund and is best when dried properly. then you can apply raptor liner of your choice or paint. piece of advice. try not to use too much harder and do the mixinf in the raptor liner bottle so you would have pure mix without anything getting caught up in the mixing tub. i went with battleship Dark grey. its darker than the normal battleship grey

Super crazy in sunlight as ultra shiny.

I've used u-pol's products for over 12 years and I've never had any issues with ther products

    Great job, U-pol's Raptor Liner really is just mix, shake and shoot.
    I'd paint the entire truck in whatever color you like, however, I would go with the finer texture for the rest of it. YOu can get the u-pol pro gun with adjustable nozzle, turn it all the way in, then turn it out exactly 2 rotations and lock it in place, spray at about 70 PSI.
    Or, thin it up to 20% with Urethane reducer (Thinner) and shoot it from a HVLP gravity gun with a 2mm tip
    Or, you can roll it on with a hi density roller, however, this method uses more material, and curing time is much longer the thicker the material
    I did my spare hood for my Jeep with the HVLP gravity gun and was very happy with it, but the the process is a lot slower, especially if you don't have a large air compressor. I achieved the exact same fine texture with U-pol's pro gun and that is without reducer. However, I used 15% reducer on my second coat on the Jeep because it gave me more material. My Jeep took a full four bottles kit and I reckon that truck will take about 6 bottles.
    Also, I'm very much aware that this video is from 2018 and I reckon you already did whatever you were going to do, so this comment is for others who might be wondering what to do/use.
    Also, if you can not spray inside, or have no indoor parking, get a breathable car/truck cover. the Raptor will be dry enough to put the cover on about 4 hours after last coat. keeping it dry is important, do not expose it to any water within 72 hours when temps are at 60+ degrees. Longer if temps fall below that. Even morning due will ruin all the work you did
    Another tip, you didn't need to sand the bumper down to bare metal, just sand back all the clear with an 80 -120 grit wet/dry sander or red scotch bright pad. if you see any shiny bits, keep scuffing, and yes, the adhesion promoter is not only good for hard to sand areas, but also metals like aluminum and plastic parts such as side mirrors
    Also, never rely on the adhesive promoter alone. after using it in hard to reach areas, use the U-pol Acid etch primer, or if you want a cheaper option any etch primer or epoxy primer, especially on bare metal and chrome
    If you want to ad vinyl graphics, like the RAM logo on the back of your tailgate, you'll need a hair dryer or adjustable temp heat gun to make them stick, and a soft clean rag (Search RUclips), not sure about OEM badges, I haven't put mine back on... yet
    If anyone knows how best to reapply them, I'd love to know. RTV?

      Use fluid film on the frame, not bedliner, that’s just asking for rust problems.

    • @daltonandrew168
      @daltonandrew168 5 лет назад +1

      @@cjeam9199 that's why you wash the frame really good, degrease it, and hit it with rubbing alcohol. Then sand the total living shit out of it. Then do an adhesive promoter. Then you use a self etching primer, and a filler primer, then sand a little more. Then paint the bedliner. The only way rust will form is if moisture can get to it, if you do everything I said, it will form a super strong bond that no moisture once so ever can get into. Ive done it on everything vehicle I've driven from the time ive learned how to drive. And I go mudding and hunting and camping, and my frame gets covered in water, I also go salt fishing a lot and I drive around on salty trails and roads. And my frame even gets in the salt water....still to this day, ive never had not one bit of rust on my frame.

    I'm not usually a fan of bedliner on the outside of vehicles. It always just cheapens the look. However, in your case with all that rust it's understandable why you went that route. That being said, I would leave it as is. It looks way better now than if you bedlined the entire truck. Nice job....

    it looks nice as is. let it be.. looks very nice to be honest. Just a quick tip, when spraying try spray evenly and straight not going side to side and then up and down. Also do not spray and stop , spray, and stop. make continuous sprays that way you can have even layers and not "blobs" of paint. Great video I wish I would of recorded when I did my truck bed with bed liner or my custom tool box that has bed liner.....

    Hey man I love the work you did. I am also going to be spraying the raptor liner on the lower side of my 93 first gen cummins. So rocks and salt that they use on the roads here will tear up the underside if coated with car paint

    Did you wait for raptor to dry before removing tape? Or is it better to remove tape when wet?

    • @jquiznos2283
      @jquiznos2283 5 лет назад

      *Bump
      I wanna know this too. I've painted stuff before, waited too long and then it was a mess trying to take the tape off but if I too the tape off too soon, it was stringy and left paint strings either on the newly painted surface or the surface I just protected.

      The key is to remove ALL rust before hand. If you spray this over rust, it will make the rust worse.

    • @Stuntman2304
      @Stuntman2304 5 лет назад

      Jay Gill exactly. I see so many people spray over rust. I’m guilty of it too but it was a temporary ascetic fix. I later went back and did it right. I cringe when I see people paint right over rust.
