  • Arya Stark kills the Night King - Very few of us expected the White Walker war to end midway into the final season. Most expected Jon Snow to deliver the killing blow, given his central role in the war against the dead. Maybe Daenerys would destroy the king of the dead with dragon fire. It was a Stark who gets the honor, just not the Stark anyone expected - but Arya’s role in killing the Night King and the White Walker threat isn’t without a whole lot of setup.
    Game of Throne
    Creators: David Benioff, D.B. Weiss
Stars: Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams
    Original network: HBO
    Distributor: Warner Bros. Television Distribution
Margaret Constance "Maisie" Williams - an English actress. Williams made her acting debut in 2011 as Arya Stark, a lead character in the HBO epic medieval fantasy television series Game of Thrones. She received two Emmy Award nominations.

"The Long Night" utterly destroyed all the build-up for Jon and the Night King's fight and story arcs. This was *JON's* spotlight, and yet if you remove him from the episode, nothing changes.

You know, Arya is one of my favorite characters, and tbh, I liked that she killed the Night King with the same move she did training with Brienne. But seriously, the writers screwed up big time with the background of the characters this season. Jon Snow spent a good part of the show preparing to fight the Night King, only to end up not even getting the chance. If they had put the fight between The Night King and Snow, with him almost dying, and then Arya arriving SILENTLY as the perfect "no one", that she trained to be, it would have been epic.

The one thing that never slipped during Game of Throne's final seasons was the music. Even in this scene there's so much passion in that music, that steadily raising tempo before dropping into this slow, ominous tune that builds again as the Night King and Bran share their looks to one another. There's an entire conversation in that look between them, an entire argument on rights and wrongs, good vs evil, and its just encapsulated by that music. Unfortunate it had to be attached to the rest of this episode.

Look love Arya. Love her character arc, the growth and development of the actress’s skills over the time of the show. But this was such a huge let down based on how they have hyped the prince who was promised. And then again HOTD is using it as the basis for Targaryen right to reign. This was Jon’s big moment and it was stolen from him. I would have even been in favor of it being dany who got to kill him. But I will never forget or forgive DND for how they ruined jon and Dani’s character.

Having Arya kill the Night King goes to prove that while also giving us this payoff of her working for years to not only not be the "lady" she was "born" to be but also fought against for years.Even to the first season, what do we say to the god of Death, not today. And the "death" of the whole realm was meant to be at the hand of the long winter and the Night King, and she defeated him.

It's like watching a team come close to going to the Super Bowl but having the QB throw an interception in the End Zone instead of a winning touch down or a RB fumbling on the goal line only to have a defensive player scoop it up and run it back the other way for the game winning touchdown. It just feels so hollow and empty and pointless and even the really good stuff just pisses you off because you could see how great it could have been if they hadn't rushed and fucked it up.

I think it is a real big problem that we all now have so many expectations how a story should be told, that this really limits the diversity of stories.
The bomb always is defused on the last second. The hero gets the girl. ... Boring.
Game of Thrones was different. From start to finish expectations were disappointed. Charakters were build up to die quick without a lot of glory. Eddard, Rob, Littlefinger, Tywin, ... And this unpredictability and different approache to storytelling made it unique and entertaining.

    • @boredom2go
      @boredom2go Год назад +3

It was a problem created by the story built by GRRM. You can't have some final battle at King's Landing without WInterfell getting wrecked, and Winterfell isn't getting wrecked without all the Starks dying. Then the story is definitely not going anywhere. GRRM wrote himself into a corner, which is probably one of the big reasons he hasn't finished the series.
The build up is always better than the resolution. Our brains imagine this nebulous ending that does not exist and cannot exist, so we are invariably disappointed. Consider the movie Seven. It had one of the best slow build-ups ever, but the ending was just stupid. It is so hard to craft a truly inspired resolution.

She could have been a faceless zombie standing behind the Night's king who stabs him from behind.
Could have been a poetic end !

As has been stated by others, the Night King was an idiot to ever expose himself since he presented this huge vulnerability. He should have never gotten near anyone who could whack him.

Arrogance is what got the night king killed. He thought he was invincible.

@@glendak4093 You'd feel invincible to if you were thousands of years old and could literally bring anyone back to life to do your bidding.

I love Arya but I really wish it was Jon who killed the Night King. Can you imagine if it was Jon who we saw coming out of the corner of the Night King's eye, him who plunged that dagger into him? That would've been epic.

It was clear from the moment that Arya was given the Valyrian steel dagger that she would kill the Night King with it. I had hoped that her dire wolf would have some last minute role but that was not to be!

It was clear to me when she became no-one that she would kill Cersei with Jaime's face but oh well lets have her kill a a thing she has never seen or fought.
      My poor expectations were subverted.

Jon Snow had a valyrian steel sword... Arya needed it to fight the white walkers. Not the Night King necessarily.

I was expecting that Valyrian dagger to have some importance when she received it, maybe to kill some White Walkers during The Long Night.
But the fact she kills the Night King with it is an insult to all the build-up this battle had.
