It was so disappointing to see him die that easily, was built up as the strongest of all yet a lil girl kills him. Most underwhelming part of the last season.. How badly they fucked up this whole 8th season is just incredible.
It was totally predictable that the Night King was destined to die by a single thrust of a weapon of Valerian steel, dealt by Arya Stark. GoT failed at the end not because of that, but because of a lack of depth, cohesion, reason and logic. The music was gorgeous though.

I agree with the poster who said the Night King should have won. Heck, in Invasion of the Body Snatchers the aliens win. There doesn't always have to be a happy ending to a long-running show. In fact, given GoT's penchant for dark, brooding, and foreboding story lines, having the White Walkers take over Westeros would have been a fine and fitting ending to the series. Could you imagine the last scene of season eight showing the Night King walking into the king's hall at the Red Keep and sitting his supernatural butt on the Iron Throne? Holding on that image, knowing what the rest of the planet has in store for them now would have been downright terrifying! And awesome!
Yeah that would be so cool or even better if they made new GoT series placed in the future, about people struggling to survive, white walkers everywhere trying to kill every last human. And people forming alliances to attack the night king.

They should have won and the lesson should have been that the humans didn't unite to fight together...they could have made it such that Cersei betrayed the North and the North lost, then NK came down to King's Landing to finish the remaining people...and the end would have been with snow over the throne room instead of ash...as in the prophecy.
Edit: There could have also been some survivors trying to revive the realm as suggested above, an interesting spin-off heh.

I don't think he needed to be Valerian to ride the Necromance dragon since the dragon was already dead and he controlled it anyways so by controlling him he could ride it without permission or some special valerian power. Also the dragon has special magic to breathe cold dry ice fire which is also a magical power different from Dragon fire, fire.

For the Beyond the Wall plotline, it seems like he has greenseer abilities as well. He was waiting at that lake for Jon and Dany and knew he'd be getting a dragon that day.
He must have had the greensight. There is no other way to explain his 'chill' attitude at all times. He always knew what happens next.

Arya used Valyrian steel to kill Night King. I don't think it is because of a dagger through it's chest.
You are correct. She used his something potent,fatal 'to him; valerian steel which is what killed him. And the fact that she was a very young woman shows the viewers there was a twist in the storyline which is true entertainment ; whether it was favored or not.

It's not what she used, it's how she did it. Comes out of nowhere, tricks him by dropping the dagger to her other hand. Like she tricked a guy so fast and strong no one could out match him and she does it with ease. Bs

People discussing how Jon Snow should have bested the Night King, but really this seems to be the whole reason Bran is in the show as well. His story is tied to the north, beyond the wall and the more magical elements. Stands to reason he should have been more instrumental in this theatre rather than resolving the game of thrones in the south.
The Night king had a very big army and they couldn't swim. To pull out that dragon and bring him back to live was just dumb. They just wanted two dragons to fight each other and hence made that blunder. If they had stuck with logic and let that dragon die peacefully it would have been good

To be fair..it was a valeryan Steel dagger through the chest that did the trick. Valaryan steel apparently incorporates dragonglass/obsidian in it's make..and THAT was the key component in the ritual the Children used to make the Night King in the first place..a failsafe for the WMD they made to try and fend off the encroaching humans. any other weapon would have failed.

Night King, an incredible villain, but too easy to kill. His death is joke.
Yea, dying like that might be underwhelming after all that buildup. But it's actually not devoid of logic. See, the night king was made by being stabbed with dragonglass. Valyrian steel holds the same kind of magic (the fiery essence of dragonfire), and so it has the same magnitude. A bit of magic, negated by the same type of magic. Makes sense.

Even then she was caught, nk would have snapped her neck in character. That made no sense either
Yeah, what didnt make sense was Arya's teleportation skill, her getting passed through Night King's 4 or 5 bodyguards + army and Arya's "experience" training as an assassin vs Night King's literal thousand year experience, planning, and magic mumbo jumbo
That would make sense, if the night king didn't actually survive a dragonfire from Drogon like it was nothing.
What makes the valyrian steel so special is that it was forged with dragonfire, yet the night king tanked it so easily
I don't get how it makes sense to have him vulnerable to DRAGONFIRE-FORGED steel, while at the same time being invulnerable to ACTUAL dragon fire.

Ya it took some ginormous amounts of plot-armor to keep this God mode being from winning.
That and the fact he had no dialog or deeper story they could have run with, was basically the silent leader of the mysterious evil ice guys from the forbidden land of ice and snow that pops up every now and then to chop up people and animals, make some pretty artwork out of their severed body parts and turn a few into zombies.
Pity really, but as much as the White Walkers added a really intriguing mysterious and deadly creatures shrouded in mystery and added a real sense of danger and horror etc, the writers couldn't really go any further with them. I think the fist little "inside look" at the home of these ice necromancers was when a baby was brought to the Night King but it wasn't really much to look at. If these necromancers were to have mostly been unseen for hundreds of years, what were they doing all day every day? Just staring almost statue like at ice covered mountains and glaciers? Out drinking and partying lol? Zombie horse racing lol? Who made their clothes? And what's with the fashion styling? A uniform, armor, to hide their ice man parts lol?
So ya.... there was a lot could have and might have been with this... race or whatever they are referred to. But tbh, I think it was that mysterious unknown and rarely seen massive danger they added was probably how they were best served. Like most things, once we "get to know them", they lose the level of threat and sense and danger etc. All that said, it was also because of this was a big reason they had to die when they did. Logically it would have made no sense for the Ice King to risk himself totally needlessly as often as he did, and could have simply had his minions do all the work, he seemed able to see what they saw etc, so was really no need to risk himself, especially knowing when he dies, it all ends. But ya, for the power he had, there was no other way for the show to continue to the next phase until he died.
That said, am I correct in reading somewhere that the Night King was one of those "There always has to be one" situations? Whereby you can't ever really kill him and that there always has to be one "for the balance of the universe" lol, or something like that? The moon for the sun, the night for the day, the winter for the summer sort of thing, can't have one without the other.
Wait so what exactly would the night king do after he kills everyone ?

having a 90lb boy girl kill the greatest threat, which spanned across 8 seasons was such a horrible cop out. dragon glass arrows, BOOM white walkers are no threat. grenades with shards of dragon glass, no threat. there are many ways to defeat an enemy when you know its weakness, but it cheapens all the tension & angst created by the threat, when that threat trips and dies while shaving, or showering, or a 90lb 12yr old kills it. they killed GOT's , forever erasing its greatness, which was significant, but will always be eclipsed by its final seasons of failure. when will they learn

Cryokinesis is a bit of a stretch. Sort of implies missing would be impossible if he could just think where he wanted it to go and it would happen. And the weakness is just plain old valyrian steel not where or what he's stabbed in. Otherwise yea though, dope ass omnipotent snowman who died like a bitch.
