Honestly I was always of opinion that Bolg of the Norht, son of Azog should be the main nemesis for Thorin they made mistake with making Azog the 'villain', Bolg, son of Azog would have worked much better I think there would be even way to implement canon version of events, with Dain killing Azog in the flashback, which would also introduce the character of Dain in the battle of Azanulbizar, maybe also adding the subplot that Thorin and his oak branch earning him title Oakenshield, could have faced Bolg briefly in that battle, prevening him from aiding his father and chief Azog while he faced Dain, giving the Bolg motivation, revenge for the death of his father, as well as other reasons like desire for power and a piece of treasure etc. in general it would have been more interesting as far as villain motivation goes than what we got in the films, with Azog simply wishing to wipe out the line of Durin...just because he has a fancy. Orcs wanting to avenge the death of their captains and chieftains is also something often alluded to in books (not to mention the Orc feuds among themselves etc.) so it would play out quite well, not to mention it would shed some interesting light into internal relations of Orcs, the fact that Bolg of the North is specifically son of Azog, would make for fascinating picture of Orcs having familial connections and forming some sort of bonds despite being violent and treacherous. The Hobbits films don't actually explain that Bolg is indeed son of Azog.
@@jackietennant8061 well as Tolkien wrote: "'There must have been orc-women. But in stories that seldom if ever see the Orcs except as soldiers of armies in the service of the evil lords we naturally would not learn much about their lives. Curse it! How did we lose it, my precious? Yes, that's it. When we came this way last, when we twisted that nassty young squeaker. That's it. Curse it! It slipped from us, after all these ages and ages! It's gone, gollum." Parentage of Bolg is of course canon: "The Goblins are upon you! Bolg of the North is coming, O Dáin ! Whose father you slew in Moria." The Hobbit/" For the Orcs came down upon Erebor as soon as they heard of the return of the Dwarves; and they were led by Bolg, son of that Azog whom Dáin slew in his youth." Lotr appendices Bolg at the momen of his death was approximately over 142/150 years old, (this calculated from the date of Azog's death in battle in 2799, and Bolg's death in Battle of Five Armies in year 2941. So Bolg must have been born some time before Azog died in battle, he probably was young back then but it's speculation.
The things I didn’t like about it was that I hated how it looked so fake, and the orcs were made to look more cool. I didn’t mind the things they added to bolg. I thought bolg was cool, as I genuinely got scared when legolas was in those really close fights. But the CGI was way too over the top.
I find it interesting how he 'senses' Legolas a lot in this film. He's aware of him from a distance in a way Azog and other orcs aren't. It's almost telepathic. It must be an Elven thing. 😊 As Orcs are corrupted Elves. Also Bolg is quick on his feet and very graceful for one carrying such weight of armour alone.
Anyboy else noticed that bolg is the only creature in lotr and hobbit trilogy who hit legolas and made him bleed successfully even if a single dropp.. that shows what a beat he is. He is like as strong and savage as azog . Even legolas had troubles to kill him. But it would have been more interesting to see legolas vs azog .

@@MM-md9lv It was a close fight but Legolas got the best of him in the end. He was without his best weapon and still jumped on his back and that was that. Don't know how u can say he was beaten. Bolg had the upper hand for a second but couldn't stop an attack. It's all about the situation of the fight and Legolas took advantage and won, simple as that. Legolas V. Azog is more interesting, but going off of what we've seen and know, Legolas defeats him 1v1 after a hard-fought battle.
I like how bolg is actually pretty close to as powerful as azog. They don’t make him a scrub. Literally the only elf warriors that’s strong enough to beat him is legolas and thranduil and even legolas had troubles. He took out Kili and tauriel at the same time who were the elite of the elite warriors for dwarves/elves. Azog id still put slightly ahead tho. He’s slightly bigger and the weapons he uses or so heavy and menacing. And he assasinated thrain with ease and destroyed the best of the best dwarves. Only thorin who was the most powerful dwarf warrior, probably ever, could keep up with him in a fight. It would be interesting to see legolas fight azog. Since thorin is the best of the best for dwarves and legolas is the best of the best of elves. Also I think gimli was probably the second best dwarf warrior after thorin. Slightly ahead of dwarves like fili, kili, and dwalin
Please some one help me , can somebody tell me who is that orange haired orc in the battle of moria is he bolg if yes then this bolg is totally different who is taht orc with orange hair and beared
Azog in his last thorin fight wasn’t smart. His morningstar was the worst choice of weapon on an ice lake and his only other weapon was that built in arm knife, he crippled himself in a close range fight for his later years and bolg surpassed him by simply fighting with more situational awareness and improvisation. His razor edged armour embedded in his ribcage would be added danger in close range combat and the accurate skill with multiple weapons like the longbow and broadsword despite having one working eye is a testament to his versatility and durability. Azog was felled the first time by an arm amputation in a costly mark of brash arrogance which he never fully recovered from. That day haunted him ever since and influenced every action he took.. down to what he did to his arm stump. He was stubborn and impractical while bolg was varied and adaptable. Bolg didn’t care who he killed, azog was tunnel visioned on revenge and erebor.
Something I never noticed before... At 2:10, Bolg is able to successfully dodge Legolas's thrust and lock up his sword. Bolg uses this to his advantage and is able to briefly take control of the fight by tossing Legolas around... At 9:35, in their second fight with each other, the same thing happens. Bolg catches Legolas's thrust and locks up his sword. But this time, Legolas is prepared. He learned from their previous encounter, adapted, and was able to maneuver himself in a position that allowed him to deliver the fatal blow.
Well going by the book it is Bolg and his elite troops of bodyguards who were basically responsible for deaths of Thorin and Fili nad Kili, I always thought that they should have made Bolg of the North, as son of Azog the main nemesis for Thorin, it would give the villain in movies more interesting motivation, wantign to avenge death of his father (while Thorin would still remember the murder of his grandfather by Azog and the whole cycle of vengeance and retribution etc.) plus the standard motivation of getting power nad wealth as the piece of treasure was also one of the goals of the goblins in book (plus vengeance for death of Great Goblin), Azog should have been dead as in books, the scene showing his death would also be introduction of Dain as a character, in cinematic form it would be better, it's also shame that even though the Hobbit films still had both Azog and Bolg together in this, they didn't acknowledge any familial connection, barely one line of Bolg being 'a spawn of Azog' is briefly said in films. There also could have been some feud between Bolg and Beorn (considering that IN BOOK, Beorn kills Bolg, it certainly would have made more sense for him rather than Legolas, who had no real stake in killing Bolg).
Bolg was every bit as power as Azog. Legalos battles with him a few different times and barley defeats his. He slices through orcs like there nothing in all the films but Azog actually almost defeats him. He is arguably the most powerful orc in middle earth during these times.
Fight with Bolg is a struggle to everyone. Tauriel got her ass whooped Kili got killed. Legolas: 2:24 And Bolg is like: "F...ck that! I'm outta here!" (2:45)
What I find crazy is that Bolg would have indefinitely killed LEGOLAS in his final fight against him if it wasn't for Thorin's interference. You can clearly see the hugely disadvantageous position Legolas was in. No sword block could've defended a double-handed blow from Bolg's maze on the ground. And dodging is similarly impossible with both feet having no grip. This would've been Legolas' DEATH. And that from an orc that had just come out of o battle against tag-team kili and tauriel. That's absolutely nuts. Man call me crazy but I think Bolg is stronger than Azog. I mean how can you compare drawing to a relatively skillful dwarf to losing so closely to Legolas, not even any offense to him. Bolg's honestly nuts.
I had to laugh at that move straight out of Mario Bros. of the elf running up the stones as they are falling. Scenes like that made this movie unenjoyable. It's too bad, because Azog and Bolg themselves were both much better done boss orc characters than what we saw in the LOTR trilogy.
FANTASTIC FIGHTS SCENES. Not every good person lived. Makes it believable. ENDING heals with the knife in his head but as he lands a big boulder lands after on his head. ha ha
Bolg is da best. I prolly like him even more than Azog. I wish we could have a father son bonding story about them conquering middle earth after capturing erebor, but alas.
Continuity and suspension of disbelief. People want something which is internally consistent and gritty, not a trilogy where the rules are made up for plot convenience. It's not a hard concept to grasp. Legolas here is presented as a Mary Sue, someone who seemingly defies the physics of the world we've been shown. The same applies to all the dwarfs who have 10-inch thick plot armour and only eventually die after strung out action sequences. Not entertaining to see characters accept defeat in the final 20 minutes of the trilogy after we've watched three movies of them evade certain death every other scene (e.g. somehow none of them die to the trolls, none of them die to the goblins or the massive 100ft fall they had, none of them die to Smaug). It completely takes away any immediate danger to the characters as they somehow escape every encounter by sheer dumb luck.
@@redpred3502 dude we know what happens, if you didnt know this movie is based off a book lol. Also, do you not remember the scene where legolas is walking on snow? Elves are light
When you think about it. Bolg was really the only challenge combat wise for Legolas, bolg put up a hell of a fight every time. He’s( legolas) is using Thorin’s sword isn’t he?
Will Never forget the day my big brother called me home from uni and told me he’d left a present in my room and when I got home and opened the present it was the DVD’s for LOTR.. I didn’t step out for 1.5 days..straight 😄. 1 of the Best present 🎁 ever..😃
If they really wished for a main villain for The Hobbit they should have used Bolg. It's pretty odd to change the timeline of the original story so Azog could be the antagonist in the movies. Bolg does exist in the book and is son of Azog (who should be dead by the events of The Hobbit) he also commanded the goblins in the Battle of Five Armies so it was a better and more reasonable choice for a main villain in the movies. Also, since Azog killed Thrór, Bolg would still be a great rival to Thorin in a movie adaptation.
They probably kept azog around to have a more personal rivalry with thorin. But the concept of an Orc wanting to avenge his father and live up to his violent legacy sounds fairly more interesting than what we got!
The fact that Bolg and Azog met at the bridge that seemingly looks like the bridge Legolas fought Bolg on gives me a curious twist of insight into this trilogy; was it to punish Bolg for lying and betraying the so-called order? The ice Thorin was fighting also looks alike.
I guess this way it's easier to imagine that orcs _actually_ breed like humans do. Even though in LOTR film version, Uruk Hai come from dirt, when they're actually a result of crossbreeding. But coming from the book it's hard to imagine such filthy orcs having missionaries so I just imagined they mated like dogs😂 But with Azog's rather clean skin I can vouch he and his mate enjoyed their moments until she probably died from childbirth.
Just another amazing film for us hobbit heads, absolutely love the CGI orcs. 5 bags of popcorn plus a little ring to symbolize the sacrifices Bilbo and Frodo made, Here's to more Hobbit films in the future!
Orcs are short. About 5'3 i think. Elves and Men are taller. Aragorn is 6'6 and Boromir is 6'4 in books. It was the uruk hai who were much taller, stronger and faster.

wow. i didn't realize that until I saw your comment. Thanks!!!

Bolg honestly felt like a bigger threat than Azog, being the one pursued by an elf prince while the other sought out to crush dwarves.
Mr and Mrs Azog have failed as parents.
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 thanks! I really needed a good laugh.
😂😂😂😂
I don't know if Azog's wife is still alive, but my headcanon is that Bolg had a good upbringing
OMG! There's a wife.! And mother! Sex and kids? Nooooo! My eyes and brain are now seared.
@@jackietennant8061 well as Tolkien wrote: "'There must have been orc-women. But in stories that seldom if ever see the Orcs except as soldiers of armies in the service of the evil lords we naturally would not learn much about their lives. Not much was known'" the only reference to an orc-child, is in The Hobbit book amusingly, though not so amusingly, Gollum ate one:
"Only a few hours ago he had worn it, and caught a small goblin-imp."/""My birthday-present! Curse it! How did we lose it, my precious? Yes, that's it. When we came this way last, when we twisted that nassty young squeaker. That's it. Curse it! It slipped from us, after all these ages and ages! It's gone, gollum."
Parentage of Bolg is of course canon:
"The Goblins are upon you! Bolg of the North is coming, O Dáin ! Whose father you slew in Moria." The Hobbit/" For
the Orcs came down upon Erebor as soon as they heard of the return of the
Dwarves; and they were led by Bolg, son of that Azog whom Dáin slew in his
youth." Lotr appendices
Bolg at the momen of his death was approximately over 142/150 years old, (this calculated from the date of Azog's death in battle in 2799, and Bolg's death in Battle of Five Armies in year 2941. So Bolg must have been born some time before Azog died in battle, he probably was young back then but it's speculation.
If it wasn't that LOTR came out first I literally thought Legolas might die in the final fight

It would have been interesting too to see a fight between Daìn and Azog, to get closer to the original story.
In the books, Azog actually killed multiple dwarf kings in the battle of moria and nearly killed Thrain
@@tomcross3000 I think that when Azog lost his arm he wanted to make sure that the same wouldn't happen to his son
The last bolder hitting him right in the face always gets me. Its like watching Wile E. Coyote :D
I love how the orcs sound in the movie, very professional work.
what do you expect? This is not a budget film!
I am glad Bolg is a villain that aint no pushover, and he actually managed to kill a named character
Gotta love how Legolas was like "F_ck daintiness! Bolg can catch these hands from Monday to Friday and twice on the weekends!"

People complain about how an Elf. Defies gravity in a movie that has dragons, wizards, orcs and all sorts of make believe.
So you wouldn’t complain if Legolas started flying?? Or shot lasers out his eyes. People can only suspend so much before it starts looking ridiculous

Yeah. Azog shouldn’t exist in the story. Pretty dumb. But not as dumb as The Tauriel/Kili love story.
Also Thorin's cousin Dain killed Azog, so plenty of reason for a grudge.
The fact that Bolg and Azog met at the bridge that seemingly looks like the bridge Legolas fought Bolg on gives me a curious twist of insight into this trilogy; was it to punish Bolg for lying and betraying the so-called order? The ice Thorin was fighting also looks alike.
For Orc standards he actually seems to have been raised very well.

I guess this way it's easier to imagine that orcs _actually_ breed like humans do.
Even though in LOTR film version, Uruk Hai come from dirt, when they're actually a result of crossbreeding. But coming from the book it's hard to imagine such filthy orcs having missionaries so I just imagined they mated like dogs😂
But with Azog's rather clean skin I can vouch he and his mate enjoyed their moments until she probably died from childbirth.
But why we still did not see a she orc yet
I like how it's the same actor who played the Witch King and Gothmog.
