    I definitely think that 180 degrees of motion is super important as with flying the smallest inputs make the biggest difference. IMO if you’re thinking about getting the saitek system, wait. Save your money a little longer and grab the honeycomb. 100% will not regret it.

    I want Flight Simulator 2020 because I'm fascinated by and passionate towards flying. Unfortunately, due to my financial condition, I haven't been able to pursue a career in flying in real life. I have always wanted to get into flight simulators but this game has increased my interest because it is so beautiful. I really want it so that I can experience flying in at least a simulation that is so close to reality.

      I am instructor. If you can afford TPR by Thrustmaster at $500 then they are the best non-forcefeedback pedals. IMO they are better than Redbird or Ruddo that are in the same "all metal" class. The rest are the plastic class. If you are serious about RWS then you "get what you pay for"'. If you are simply a entertainment flight simmer then perhaps cheaper is better.

    Shame I had to get the Saitek yoke 1 year ago, i was on a tight budget like you pointed out in the video about the little resistance of the Saitek and the feel of the yoke with a deadzone, I decided to open mines and place two rubber bands, this increased the resistance ever so slightly and removed the deadzone making the yoke feel more realistic, the honeycomb definitely looks better, might purchase later in the future when I get more funds, video quality is definitely improving, keep it up

The airbus side stick from Thrustmaster looks like a great addition for flights with the airbus aircraft. • @DownTheRabbit-Hole

    I am instructor and use Honeycomb. The stiff spring for pitch is fantastic because it gives more "feel" to trimming. Could be a bit stiff for kids tho. "Handedness" is important in RWS. The ignition should be used by left hand(and be placed by the switches on left) as it is in most small aircraft. They should have included fuel pump and pitot switch near the light switches. Minor issues!
    The built in aileron roll "delay" (as opposed to "twitchy" fast joysticks designed for gaming) is fantastic. This gives a realistic lag to control inputs. Great yoke for $250.

    • @GamingWithFusion
      @GamingWithFusion 4 года назад +1

      Yoke if you want a simulation and you can pair it with a cheaper joystick if you feel like flying Airbus realistically, something like the Thrustmaster T.16000M sidestick, or if you do more combat flight games then a more expensive sidestick (joystick) combo like the Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas combo. I personally am going to go for the HoneyComb yoke & throttle and possibly get the T.16000M or something like the airbus edition of the T.16000M sidestick.

    OK. First off, the Honeycomb is a good yoke, far better than the Saitek but it has flaws. I even tried to get some reaction from Honeycomb to my issue but no reply was forthcoming, nada. That's not very polite so I set out to find my own solution. The issue is that the pitch control, during fine movements in the flare, is slightly jerky, or sticky but definitely not smooth. This is a real shame because they already have the solution partially licked by using linear bearings on the double rail guide mechanism under the hood. They strangely proceed to use a nylon bush to guide the yokes spindle and I discovered that this is where the stickiness comes from. As an engineer, and always trying to improve a product already on the market, I dismantled the yoke and removed the spindle boss that the shaft of the yoke runs through. I removed the nylon bush and replaced it with a linear bearing after a little turning and reworking and it has transformed the yoke. No more jerky, sticky resistance to contend with. These linear bearings are SO cheap, under £10 for 12 number, linear bearings !! They out perform the nylon bush by miles. I fly a real world GA aeroplane and don't expect a jerky action and now my Honeycomb yoke copies the feel more accurately. I would urge Honeycomb to make this improvement in manufacture. It will not be an expensive thing to do. I'd be quite happy to convert the yokes of anyone interested in making this undoubted improvement to their simulator experience. I'd also be happy to talk to Honeycomb as well, if they are interested in improving their product. Ps. I also have a mod to increase the roll resistance. These methods would invalidate the warranty but, personally, I would prefer a more accurate simulation experience.

    • @boringNW
      @boringNW 3 года назад +1

      That's very interesting, thank you for your comment on this! How easy would it be for a non-engineer to change out? Is it something you could create a video demonstrating how it's done?
      I think that'd be an interesting idea for a niche channel if you were looking, taking products like these and applying your engineering knowledge to do a takedown while offering tips on which parts to swap out for better performance/longevity

  • @jimstanley_49
    @jimstanley_49 2 года назад

    I'm a sim-only pilot, so maybe I don't know any better. Still, I would be happy to change the calibration curve in the sim. It's simple enough to dampen a +/- 45-degree yoke for less amplification near the center. (How often does anyone use more than 45 degrees of input on an aircraft, anyway?) And yet, Saitek/Logitech have done worse than limit the range of motion. You missed it in your review, but they coded a 5-degree dead zone into EACH SIDE of the center. This covers a little more than that un-tensioned shakey zone in the middle. They rob you of 10 degrees of motion and then penalize you with a 10-degree span that does nothing, right in the middle of the movement. This dead zone is LOCKED INTO UNSERVICEABLE FIRMWARE BY THE FACTORY. They claim it's a feature, not a bug. (I'm waiting on tech support, but I've already started on a mission to point out this unacceptable "feature" wherever I can.)
    I will be returning my recently purchased yoke system and switch panel (pending the results of my inquiry with tech support) to get a Honeycomb combo. To come close to the Honeycomb Alpha and Beta with Saitek gear, you need the yoke/throttle system, an extra USB throttle, and the Switch and AP panels. You will have saved about $30 (at today's prices, individual Saitek items vs. bundled Honeycomb) and have a LESS configurable system with a terrible yoke. (Though, the AP display would be handy.) The Saitek panels require a proprietary plug-in. The functions in that plug-in are locked in at whatever Saitek thinks they should be. You cannot, for example, assign an unused cowl-flap switch to a secondary avionics bus or an unused De-ice switch to carb heat. (I'm not sure about reconfiguring the labeled Honeycomb switches, but their throttle includes several programmable switches.)
    The radio panel is AMAZING for tuning radios, but it has limitations too. In DME mode, you are locked in to Nav1. DME also only uses one side of the display for data (the distance.) The other side freezes with, I think it's the Nav frequency, but it doesn't change when you change the Nav. The right-hand display becomes useless random numbers instead of the speed or time. They could have used the Swap key to switch between sources. They could even get it to "Hold" if they were clever. Maddeningly, the only "updates" they are interested in are repacking the drivers/plug-ins, so they install on Windows newer than 98.

    I have a CH Products Flight Sim Yoke, and I had to manually map all the controls for FS2020. Alongside that, the toe brakes, throttle, and mixture controls don't work. Toe brakes just flat out aren't there, even though you see them go down in the sim. With the throttle and Mixture, they need to be completely maxed out before they actually give input. There is not 20, 30, 40 50, etc. throttle control, it's 0 or 100%. I'm going to have to get one of these since I know Flight Sim automatically recognizes them.

    Honeycomb yoke all the way! Don't save that extra cash you would when buying the Saitek spend it on the Honeycomb which is really superb in terms of build quality and accuracy! I have combined it though with the Saitek/Logitech products a Throttle quadrant, radio stack and autopilot board (which includes a flap-switch) I built that stuff onto a simple wooden board but the Saitek/Logitech stuff can also be mounted on top of the Honeycomb (yes the mounting is 100% compatible with it) However you need to lift your monitor way up in order to look over the stack, not the most realistic imho.

    How can u use rudders without buying pedals? Cab they be programmed to one of the buttons on the yoke?

  • @Henryx097

    It would be awesome if, after the FS2020 finally releases, you compare the different addons that will eventually come out so we can make a more informed purchase. Cheers! Keep it up!

    I am definitely getting the HoneyComb yoke & throttle, so I gotta save for a few months. But in the end it will be worth it. $500 is expensive for a flight sim setup though when I could get a good PC combo for lots of that money I will spend.

    • @mateo1994

      Gaming With Fusion it will be worth it! If the throttle is anything like the yoke, then I know it will be amazing!

    What is interesting is that for someone like me, who has used sticks since the 90's and never used a Yoke, i often see that 45deg bashed, but i think it still gives slightly more roll controll then what a stick does?

    • @mateo1994
      @mateo1994  2 года назад

      It’s really hard to compare the 2 that’s why I try to stick to using joysticks on stick planes and yoke on yoke planes. Each joystick is different but as you can see the Logitech yoke just isn’t able to match that real world feel

    I'm really liking the Honeycomb products the more i hear about them. All I have is a cheaper joystick so maybe when the Honeycomb throttle releases a can get both. I love that is has switches on them, that's a plus for sure.
    What's a good set of rudder pedals for the first time user on a budget? Seem like the Thrustmaster TFRP is kinda the only choice.

    • @mateo1994
      @mateo1994  4 года назад

      Yeah the honeycomb products are amazing, super excited for the throttle whenever is finally comes out. And for the rudder pedals that’s the ones I use and I have no complaints about them but I haven’t tried many others so I don’t have much to compare it too

    From a logitech owner to now owning Honeycomb, there is NO COMPARISON between them. Honeycomb is like a Mercedes Benz E Class and the logitech is like a Daihatsu Charade.

    I spent upwards of $2000 on all of the Logitech panels, but it Logitech hasn’t made drivers for it yet. What do you suggest to do? Should I download spad.next?

    • @mateo1994
      @mateo1994  4 года назад +1

      So far the people that have used spad.next tell me it’s extremely glitchy and barely working with that app. I’m sure a free plugin will be added soon so I would personally wait on that, just based on the negative feedback I’ve heard about the spad.next paid fix

    A video idea, do a flight long or short, at night, have a camera so we can see you using the yoke, the throttle quadrant, radio, etc, and have it dark in your room is well, so we get a really nice vibe, could be a mad video👀👍

    • @mateo1994

      Aryan Bajaj that sounds like an awesome idea but I might need a better camera for low light conditions. I’ll definitely try it tho! I’m working on getting some nice GoPros so we can have multiple angles on the controls

    I can't be the only one who thinks $250 is a steal for a bunch of buttons and a non force feedback yoke. That's not even including rudder pedals or a throttle...
    Bear in mind I got my Logitech G920 (Ik it's a racing wheel and not a yoke) for $300 and it comes with pedals...

    Seeing the eyewatering price for the honeycomb throttles I currently use saitek pedals, throttle and trim wheel (all usb) and seem to get a great feel of vfr with my rift s. ATM running x-plane in vr with the orbx uk south and central so as long as I can find the throttle and trim, it is going great! Vr presents its own issues so am looking into ways to track the physical with reality so if you have any ideas such as vr tracked fingertips and control locators I'd be really grateful. Thanks for the great comparison - subbed!

    The 70$ are just the Airbus Pack that you can add to the 250$ Honeycomb Throttle

    • @mateo1994
      @mateo1994  4 года назад

      Afffe Pizzakatze i was talking about the saitek throttle. To get the same thing as the saitek set up it would be 70 dollars added to the honeycomb yoke for the saitek quadrant. I should have worded my self better. I’ve had the honeycomb throttle preordered For months I’m aware it’s $250

    Instead of the saitek radio panel, I would look seriously at AIR MANAGER/Knobster/Touchscreen. This way you can use GNS430/530 G1000, many different flight deck configs. Twisting frequencies with a mouse is not an option for RWS, Vatsim, or Pilotedge.
