  • Join Nigel as he spec's his next supercar build: the Ultima RS. Recognised as the world's fastest self-assembly supercar, Nigel peruses the mouth-watering option list: 6.2 or 7 litre V8, naturally aspirated or forced induction, 4 or 6 pot AP racing brakes, analogue or digital instrumentation, how much carbon fibre aero? This is the start of an amazing journey to inspire subscribers to watch, build and drive.

    I hope you enjoy your build. I rebuilt my GTR 10 years ago (it was 12 years old then). It has many of the features of the RS as well as lots of my own modifications. These are not inexpensive cars to build. Similar in cost to a new 911 GT3. But they are a piece of theatre on the road.
    Beware of the “Willy waving” big horsepower engines. 600hp will spin up the wheels in second and third in the dry. You see quite a few Ultimas for sale with very few miles. You have to be a dedicated owner and competent driver to fully enjoy the driving experience.
    Get the front lift kit for road humps and steep driveways. That front splitter is easily damaged and very expensive to replace.

    Fantastic introduction to the Ultima Nigel, I can’t imagine our specs will be far apart, standard Ultima bits all the way, main one being the gauges I suppose as I’ll be going down the AIM route. The carbon fibre options, well, what is there to be said other than they’re a stunning addition that only the bank manager would disapprove of. Really looking forward to your build commencing. It will be interesting to see your impressions on how the RS compares to your previous GTR when it’s completed.

    I just set up my Ultima purchasing one here I mean it's it's going through the process right now I'm so stoked I've waited 15 years for this and my engine I was having a problem on choosing the proper one you know and I was thinking maybe an LS4 or maybe an ls5 but an LS4 would probably work yeah I am so excited I can't believe I'm going to have to wait 18 months but still this would be awesome when I get it done and I'm going for all all of the upgrades the only thing is the I'm not a real carbon black carbon fiber fan I mean it looks good on some of it but I would rather have the opened vents on the side and everything done in gel coat the same color as a car but all the other upgrades on the inside and the analog gauges and on the inside I was figuring maybe a 500 570 horsepower LS motor would be just plenty enough for this I'm going to go to the American speed and get my engine from them yeah I can't wait and that this was the best video I've seen on somebody showing you exactly what you get and how it's kind of basically set up thanks again man happy build

      Hi Larry, you are going to one of the lucky few to experience an Ultima RS build. The LS4 is an astonishing power plant providing you can find one. Apart from the difference with the engine install my series will be pretty much exactly the journey you will follow and I hope it is useful. You are the first person to raise the topic regarding the carbon fibre. Now the vents on top of the wings can be purchased in gel coat - as I have. You can skip the side scoops since they are an option, as you will know. As for the other carbon items I see no reason why they could not be painted to match the gel coat. Anyway, by the time you get your kit I will be blasting around the countryside so you wall at least you can watch the entire process from start to finish prior to starting the build. Cheers Nigel

Not impossible but just sooooooo much work. Also support with issues from the factory will be challenging since you will have modified so many systems. Firstly, thanks for tuning into the channel. As regards pricing I'm tending to avoid the topic since prices do, and have, changed over time which means anything I state here or on the channel could be inaccurate as time passes. However, Ultima are more than happy to share costs with you. Just call up the sales office (number on their website) and ask to speak to either Andy or Richard. Clearly specification can vary but they hold my build on record so you could just ask for the cost of the Nigel Dean build and they can share at the current prices. I would say my car is relatively high spec with a lot of upgrades, so cost can be trimmed if you don't want to be as lavish as me :-). Cheers Nigel

I am very interested to follow your build as I sold my last kit car and am planning to order an RS this year to fill the gap as I love a good kit build and the Ultima GTR was always a dream. I may need to tone down some of the options as the XLS tallies got a bit scary when I added every item I wanted, but time (and bank balance) will tell. The carbon front splitter I heard can get cracked easily on uk roads so I was going to go for the plain one, but that looks amazing. Are you fitting the lift kit?

    Why does the RS not have sway bars?

    • @v8creative
      @v8creative  Год назад

      A very good question. The reason the Ultima does not have sway bars is because the vehicles ultra-low COG and refined suspension geometry makes roll minimal. In fact the addition of sway bars would probably just impact ride quality rather than deliver significantly improved handling. In fact the Ultima has held World records for lateral load under set-conditions so it's capabilities have been officially recorded. A four year waiting list for a fully built RS from the factory shows ULTIMA have engaged with a market segment that understands this type of proven performance is inexpensive and extremely desirable when compared to other low volume production cars. That’s a matter of opinion and everyone has that right.
