What an amazing machine. Beautifully engineered and built by 2 guys who know exactly what they are doing. Thanks again Jonny for doing this. Absolutely brilliant and I love your enthusiasm for the collections and cars. Superb
Having owned and competed in a GT40 replica this work of love is superb! If you like the GT40 you like the 917! I think you are pitching it to cheaply when a Restomod is generally around £300 to £350K. If you succeed with the flat 12 I would say £450K to £500k as a turnkey is realistic and would attract collectors who simply can't buy one anywhere else. Perhaps explore a run of 25 with someone like Tuthill Porsche or David Brown?
It is not a restomod and I think they would be doing them self a disservice to call that a replica car. They have a car body shell and engineered everything below that.
I have loved the 917 since I was a kid in the 70s. I hoped that Porsche would do as Ford did in 05 with the GT and make a street 917. They could have used the V10 from the Carerra GT. I remember also there was a kit car you could buy the Lazer 917, I think it used the VW engine.
How did you not get arrested for obscene behaviour in that? It is pure FILTH. the looks, the noise….you should have been pulled over in seconds I love it

... or to make one out of two flat sixes. It wouldn't be the first time connecting two engines together has been done. Drag racers did it in the 1960s, someone made a single crankcase V-16 out of two small-block Chevrolets in the 1990s, and in 2017, XVI Power produced and marketed a V-16 made from two Chevrolet LS V-8s, which may still be available today.

Just gorgeous. With Jonny doing the classic thing me and my mates did in our formative driving years in Essex did - taking it to Southend, except my drives were only in a Nova and a Peugeot 205 GTi. Bit late to the party Johnny, but I remember that day in 1970 very well. Pedro got black flagged for passing under yellows and rumour has it that after Clerk of the course Nick Syrett had given him a bollocking, he was so fired up that he ran over Syrett's foot as he departed the pit lane. To see him come out of Druids and Clearways sideways sold me on 917s for life. Pouring with rain, freezing cold, headlights blazing, it's said that "They forgot to tell Pedro it was raining"!
They have a car body shell and engineered everything below that.
and a Pistonheads sticker in the rear window. 😊
Absolutely incredible achievement.
WOW!!!!!!!!! speachless the standard of engineering and detail from these lads is amazing.
Hmmm, I’d totally have one of those if money was no option.. just to imagine a flat 12 in that gives me shivers.
Yeah me too and I would not lose a moment's sleep over relocating the wife to a caravan.
You have done it again. Absolute wizardry. What talent those guys have. I say it every show - best channel on RUclips.
Wow, really? Thank you. The heroes are Dave and John for having the determination and talent to create it. Really glad you enjoyed it.
What an inspiration that is. Brilliant work, and great film capturing the passion of it!
For a second, at 27:59, I thought the camera car was following a white van towing a flat-bed trailer - then I realised we were looking at the 917!
That's a beautiful recreation. Bonus points for your matching shoes with their garage,Jonny!
Not to mention the quasi Gulf colors with blue jeans and orange sweater!
This is an animal. That induction noise, the suspension setting, all incredible.
This is nuts, I don't understand how 2 people can make something like this. They deserve some reward of some kind!
To paraphrase Clarkson, "I have a real soft spot for 917's. But in this case, it's not soft......"
I could watch a front 3/4 rolling shot of that car all day. Gorgeous.
How did you not get arrested for obscene behaviour in that? It is pure FILTH. the looks, the noise….you should have been pulled over in seconds
I love it
Thank you for gifting this to us all Jonny me boy! You’re a good lad.
As much as I enjoy Johnny's content, I really really really want to see Chris in this. He's had an original car around Goodwood before now, but I'd love to see him in this; let loose on a proper track and doing it Chris Harris on Cars style.
He’d actually fit as well!
Harris would be exactly what this one needs to show off the chassis.
I know where your coming from with this as i was thinking when watching the video wheres Tiff needel when you need a car ragging round a track as Chris is his younger equal in my eyes :)
@@SnakeyUk08 there aren't many people who can drive like those guys. I've never really considered the similarities between tiff and Chris, but they are quite similar now I come to think of it. One review of Chris' has been playing in my mind whilst watching this, and that is the video he did with the Alfaholics GTA. I'm seeing that video, with this car and a whole other level of tomfoolery!
A huge Thank you to Icon for recreating my favourite racing car of all time with such accuracy. I was also at Brands Hatch in 1970 - soaked through, but delighted to see Pedro and Jo Siffert in full flight. A major engineering project.
I was there too. Saw the whole thing. They were not an easy drive in those conditions.
I’m rooting for them to get a real F12 engine. That will be glorious to hear at full throttle on regular roads
... or to make one out of two flat sixes.
@@vidiupload4174 There's also the famous V12 LS engine where a bunch of aussies cut a Chevy V8 and plastered it onto another Chevy V8 to give it 12 cylinders
one of my dreams as an engineer was to make a road legal Porsche 917 LeMans car prototype and do it up in Gulf colors livery...
and these guys have actually done it, brilliantly actually... great job...
I expect that Allen Millyard could build a flat twelve out of two or three flat sixes. He does it with motorcycle engines all the time.
He'd probably knock one up before lunch.
Just what I was thinking :)
and it would fit perfect 😅
Just gorgeous. With Jonny doing the classic thing me and my mates did in our formative driving years in Essex did - taking it to Southend, except my drives were only in a Nova and a Peugeot 205 GTi. I'm surprised I didn't see any industrial parks in Basildon in this video!
As others said, I just love the enthusiasm for all vehicles on this channel, but this recreation is ridiculously good. I love the things you manage to find!
Incredible cars to drive, I actually have a couple of Porsche 917k Le Mans winning cars that I drive regularly, one in Gulf livery and one in Martini colours....
Scalextric slot cars of course....😲😁😊
Bit late to the party Johnny, but I remember that day in 1970 very well. Pedro got black flagged for passing under yellows and rumour has it that after Clerk of the course Nick Syrett had given him a bollocking, he was so fired up that he ran over Syrett's foot as he departed the pit lane.
To see him come out of Druids and Clearways sideways sold me on 917s for life. Pouring with rain, freezing cold, headlights blazing, it's said that "They forgot to tell Pedro it was raining"! What a driver...
