If that was my house, I would hire four of the biggest bad asses that I could find and we would go into the house with my shotgun and force them out. I would dare them to call the police. My mortgage/deed and utility bills + receipts would be all the proof I would need to prove the house is mine plus the things in it. Then I would demand that they get arrested for breaking into my house.
If the cops claim they can’t do anything about it, I would file a complaint with the state attorney, I would hire a lawyer and I would write a letter to the editors of every major newspapers in the country.
In the meantime, they will be forced out, with or without the cops help.

As a Colorado resident, I call BS on this entire case. It is easy for the police to push most anything off as a "civil" case, rather than "criminal". All they are doing is supporting the criminals that they claim to want to rid the streets and honest citizens of. It is great that a law is now in place, but there are so many charges in this case that could have been pursued if the police department wanted to take the time to put in the hard work. Excuses of the "lack of law" is only used when a department has no interest in a particular case. I doubt that anyone who studies law would argue that law enforcement can get extraordinarily creative when building a criminal case against people that they choose to doggedly take down. This case was just not worth their time. Easy as that. I am a supporter of law enforcement on a whole. I have great respect for all of the hard working men and women who protect us and work to keep the communities that they serve safe. I don't support departments who use lazy excuses to only "serve and protect" certain citizens when it somehow benefits them in some way. This kind of "passing-the-buck" garbage is too widespread in the US, and there needs to be across-the-board changes made in the whole institution of law enforcement in the entire nation. ~Peace!

We received a message from a Colorado Police Department stating that the criminals have freedom of speech when we sent documentation & information to get the criminals arrested so others aren't harmed. I sent that message with the so....o called Officer's info and the information we sent to the police to get the criminals arrested and sent it to International Law Enforcement. There's some 1800 unsolved crime's in Colorado alone.
This family needs to see if someone is using the dead Victim's Identity. However, we stood & showed the Police pictures of the deceased and the Death Certificate and couldn't get the criminals arrested. It's absolutely horrifying

How is this a civil case? Trespassing is a crime. It is a criminal case.

Grand theft auto is NOT a civil matter and has absolutely nothing legally to do with squatting. I’m a federal attorney and judge so I’m well aware of the law that governs both. I sincerely hope this woman sues C Springs for all she can because this is gross dereliction of duty. I pray they aren’t being advised by counsel because that would add incompetent legal advice to the existing pile of ignorance in this case.

First and foremost there are cases out there where real squatters take over a home and this should be criminal. Except this is not one of them. A little internet time spent reading the actual reports online would explain why even the county prosecutor did not touch this as this was not some open and shut stranger "squatter" taking over a poor woman's deceased daughters property. More like a middle aged woman who died of self inflicted alcohol abuse, who was estranged from her adult daughter and ex husband who lived in another state, who had a P.O.S. druggie live-in boyfriend with a record who was even known to the deceased woman's sister, ex husband, and her grown daughter as they were all texting back & forth and on facebook with the "squatter" er, I mean live in boyfriend as the poor woman was on life support in the hospital before they pulled the plug on her. Take a story hungry news station, place a picture of what the woman looked like 22 years ago, and her grieving mother telling her side with the other family members who now say this s just instead a 'squatter", and run this as a sensational story on what's wrong with the system, it's all the Police's fault, is more like what this is. And now 3 years later, 85,000 views, and over 300 angry comments later every single person believes this story as reported here verbatim, when they in fact only have half the true story. There is always two sides to every story and then the truth. If anything to be taken away from this, if you are single, have a potential dark side of life live-in partner, get a will made if you don't want your partner to clean you out while your family is stuck in probate with an attorney waiting on your estate ruling. And make sure your family has a copy of that will. Case Closed.

Squatting should be a trespassing charge which is a crime.

What is the difference between trespassing and squatting. You mean you can just go into someone’s house and take over their property. This is a shame.

so the city AND the county refused to do anything? Minneapolis PD is notorious for not doing their jobs, but we go up to the County Sheriff if that's the case. IDK if they know if CO follows that protocol

You do not need a lawyer to evict anyone. Just file for eviction within the courts and serve the papers
