    Just got my router! Went from 20 Down 10up to 162 Down and 65up. Pretty nice upgrades. I am on SA. I am about 1.22miles away with bunch of trees in the way. I don't have my antenna tuned properly yet due to the winter. But I'm hoping I can see a bigger improvement in the summer when I can adjust the 4x4 waveform antenna. I only have an extended range 5g tower in my area. So I am guessing that's why I don't get 5g NSA. Thanks for all these videos. Helps us rural people get good internet!

    Some positive feedback for you and others: Great info on the Cheetah modem router and Waveform 4x4 panel antenna.
    I'm 7 miles from T-mobile tower (with a view of the top of tower). Purchased the Waveform 4x4 to use on the Nokia trashcan, worked well for several months (consistant 300 down and 30 up).
    Then one day speed dropped to I.5 meg on upload only for 3 weeks, download stayed the same speeds. Note: the bands stayed the same as before N41 and B2
    T-moble had just announced that N25 was operational (B2 when the UL speed dropped, Humm!
    Could not get the Nokia to change bands (only 1 T-mobile tower in my rural area that close to me).
    Replace the Nokia with a Chestertech Cheetah and now back up and better. For the last month speeds are 300-500 dl and 30-40 ul consistant on N41 and N25.
    Thank you for helping me get better internet service in our rural area

    Nate we have been on T-Mobile for the last two months. Was unaware of the minimal things you could do on the Arcadian gateway until after I got connected. We live in a rural area so internet isn’t readily available. I’ve been a subscriber since having the gateway. Thanks for this info bud.

  • @curtis026
    @curtis026 Год назад +5

    Love you Nate! I’ve learned so much from you that I’m now boringly over qualified compared to the people that work at TMobile and Verizon 😂 I signed up and tried both of them. Got the Arcadian router from T-Mobile, and it was just 2 weeks ago, and even though I’m in their 5g ultra wideband service, it only got 25down and 25up average. I never saw more than 45 down. Cancelling that and a magenta max phone line (ordered at the same time because they told me where the tower was and I can see it blinking at me from 1/2 mile away) was an absolute nightmare. I will never try TMobile again because of how awful everything got as soon as I said “I want to cancel”. Everything before that was fantastic though…. So the Verizon 5g box has been unbelievably consistent at 320down and 20up (same tower 1/2 mile away) and I love it! I am so sorry for the long rant, but my question is about the Verizon gateway 😂 so my gateway is the ASK-NCQ1338FA. I’ve only ever heard you mention the NCQ1338 gateway…. Is there even a difference? Verizon’s website says there is? For a second time I’ll say my question is really whether or not this gateway is able to have MIMO antennas hooked onto it? Do you have any insider info on whether this thing, the “FA” version is any different than the normal Askey? Thanks again Tater, love ya buddy!

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  Год назад +2

      Hey Curtis, thanks for tuning in! I'm glad the Verizon setup is working well for you. The FA appears to have some minor differences and I think the main one of note (especially as it relates to this video) is that the FA version has an eSIM and not the physical nano SIM located on the bottom of the gateway under the silicone flap and under a little screw cover. Maybe you can verify that for me! My understanding is the FA still has the same lack of ability to add an external antenna. HOWEVER with your situation if you are good with where the gateway is located and only are interested in faster speeds than current....don't do anything. I haven't seen anything in writing but the Verizon home internet on c-band appears to be throttled around that 320/20Mbps so adding an antenna wont help since you already get the "max" speeds.

    Have been running the Chester gateway on T mobile home internet for several days now. As I have stated before, at my location the best result so for is configured for 5G-SA, with PCC on n41 and SCC on n25. For past two days, I have noticed at about 6 pm, n25 will became PCC and n41 became SCC, my speed would be down to 25 down and 2 up with 170 or so for the ping. I can going to Chester and turn n25 off then back on, it would switch PCC back to n41, and my speed will again back to 400+ down and 10 up with 40 ping time again. Not sure what could cause that except losing n41 momentary. Unless Chester gateway still does not immune from T mobile de-prioritization. I am currently waiting for Waveform 4x4 panel to see if that would further stabilize the band locking. Just to share my encounters.

    I have used this router for more than 1 month now, I bought it a few days after having obtained the tmobile internet service and they gave me the seagmcom router when they activated the service, after only 2 days of testing with the seagmcom I was very annoyed with the router although the internet was fast there were times when it did not give me data and I had to restart the seagmcom, after looking for options I found this router some people recommended the new rm520 modem that was capable of CA 5G bands, It didn't take me long to get it to my house after ordering it and make the necessary configurations so it will work correctly before inserting the Sim. Compare both routers in the same place where I had the fastest and most stable connection, with the seagmcom it had a maximum between 280 to 320 mb of speed then I moved the sim to the other router, I placed it in the same place and boom a maximum of 300 to 360 mb, honestly I expected more but I remembered about SA mode where the router is capable of CA ( Carrier Aggregation ) 5G, so I switched to SA mode and found out why this modem is great! I managed to reach up to 505mb of download although the upload only reached 10mb but for the use that I give it it is much better, after adjusting the auto restart ,I no longer had problems with my connection although I programmed it to do it every day 4 a.m. So far in the time that I have been using it I have not had problems like I had with seagmcom, something that I loved about this router is the band lock ability, it helps me a lot since lte band 71 destabilizes my connection, now just uncheck that band and it works much better on NSA mode, if I only want to use band 41 and 25 on SA mode then I only leave those options marked, it has the ttl options for those who use other plans like cell phone or tablet plan and need to modify ttl , I would love to have an easier option to see the bands I'm connected to but it's not complicated since i know the command.
    So far I am very satisfied with the router and with the customer service that they have provided me, they helped me immediately with the doubts that I had about my tmobile home internet plan, about what changes I had to make to avoid having problems, the necessary commands to know the signal and settings for a better connection.
    PD: for my connection to work better, I use the band lock and I only mark the bands that I plan to use, for example, if I use NSA mode, I know that it will combine lte and 5G bands, so I select band 2 and 66 in lte and only in 5G I select 41, which is the fastest in my area and save in both, if I am going to use it in SA mode, which is when I want to download big things like video game updates, I only select band 41 and 25 in 5G and save or also if I prefer band 71 instead of 25 so I select only 41 and 71 and ready to save

    • @NaterTater

      Business does not get any different priority than home internet but it does allow you to BYOB (bring your own device) so it is easier to use the Chester Cheetah. You also have the option for $3/mo to get a static IP address with the business plan. You might notice some streaming tv issues with business and if so you just call them to tell them to unblock those services (done by default for business).

Impressed with speed/performance in my area (780/120MB, reasonable ping times) but must use with my external router and can not use with t-mobile equipment (can not have double NAT, using VLANS and local server that needs external access). Hey Nate, thanks for the great work you are doing! I work remotely from home as a radiologist and live in a semi-rural area where there is not wired broadband yet. I have to connect my workstation to the hospital I work for via an IPSEC VPN tunnel. There is a hardware device at both ends that creates this tunnel. It does not require a static IP address, but does need to establish this type of tunnel. I'm currently using a fixed wireless ISP in my area for internet, but it has been pretty unreliable. Recently I got the T-Mobile home internet for my household needs. It has performed pretty well with just the Sagemcom gateway and my home MESH wifi network. However, when I hooked up my work equipment to the T-Mobile device, it would not create the VPN tunnel. I'm told that I can't do that on the T-Mobile home internet. Is that a limitation of the Sagemcom gateway or the T-Mobile tower/network? I'm wondering the Chester device you reviewed in this video would allow me to get that tunnel built over the T-Mobile connection. I guess I would have to get a business account to get a SIM card for the Chester device.

      Hi Daniel, IPSEC VPN is one of the harder things to get to work. SSL VPN's are mostly all working now on TMHI. Do you have your VPN device plug into the Sagemcom directly or into your mesh system? Try both if you haven't. Also if your mesh system has an IPv6 passthrough enable it. There's a few more things to try but let me know about these.

      @Daniel Fullmer you might be able to host your own VPN on your mesh system and have your work VPN hooked to that. @@NaterTater Understood, and apologize for my mistake. However your Chester looks identical to my Netbudy, both say %G CPE, and they both have identical firmware. I stepped through my "mesh" firmware settings as you went through the ones on your Chester device. Each and every option is identical. Even when I executed the AT command as you did, my results were same as yours. Again, I apologize for the allegation. I do appreciate your videos, and acknowledge that you are one of the most aware I have observed regarding cellular gateway devices.

    If I plan to use a regular T-Mobile data SIM card (not a T-Mobile Home Internet SIM card) is that still throttled by CGNAT? And couldn't the TTL setting be configured to essentially "mask" that data line to be used for data only (like a cell phone) and not hotspot data?

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  Год назад

      Yes still on CGNAT but TMHI isnt throttled, just deprioritized. Phone SIM would have higher priority and yes to TTL question.

    Hi Nate, I ordered the Cheetah 5G router and just got it. Now I am trying to decide which service provider to use, I will use it as my RV Mobile internet router, can I get a iPad nano-SIM card and insert it or I need to buy a "home internet" plan? I currently have Verizon, and T-mobile does not offer home internet where I live. Any recommendations are welcome.

    Nater, trying to understand this stuff, just wanted a fast reliable system that can swap cell carriers for home internet since my broadband sucks in Miami Beach, thinking Verizon would be the best sim to start with, want access to towers further away, want access to different sim carriers if verizon doesnt work well, thinking these routers are better than the verizon or tmobile ones they give you when you get home internet, even heard of some companies that you can pay for service, they send you a router & it "automatically" switches between the best signals with the carriers, any way, can you give me some direction, i assume 5g is here with every carrier where i live but my neighbor has tmobile & its a bit flaky

    • @NaterTater

      Most any SIM or carrier can work on these routers. If you email or chat with Chester Tech Repairs he can preconfigure the router and I think even get you hooked up with a SIM/ plan.

    Nate, I hate to bother you with such a simple question but I have the Tmoble 4G lite grey moden/router and no matter where I put it in my home I still can't get a decent enough signal to get even 20mpbs download speeds, when I first got it, I was getting around 25-30mpbs but now I can barely get 5-10mpbs if I am lucky. I bought a signal booster with a yagi antenna and I could lock onto a tower and get 50mpbs download and my uploads skyrocketed to around 20mpbs but after a few minutes it wouldn't stay locked on and I lost all signal. I receive multiple warnings from my online bank account, etc. almost every day that someone is logging onto my account from a different location and IP address and so I investigated and found that Tmobile was logging me in from all these different locations so I called Tmobile about this and they claim that is is their standard practice to use the best antenna location at the time so it will vary but I don't buy that BS, especially since I now have practically no signal and can't seem to get my antenna set on a tower. I just ordered an omnidirectionl antenna since it seems to me that Tmobile is somehow piggybacking off other towers or something fishy. My antenna mast is 25 feet high which should have been more than sufficient for me to get a good lock on a Tmobile tower but I find these tower maps a bit hard to read but I do at least get the gist of it and can see which are emitting my band for Tmobile and where they are. I guess I am asking what is the best thing for me to do since I have already spend a few hundred dollars not to mention the monthly Tmobile fee. Actually, counting the mast, I have spent about $1,000 and a lot of work for no results. Can you give me any advice ? Am I doing something wrong or is it Tmobile sticking it to me? I would change to Verizon immediately (Verizon towers everywhere around me) but their top package is $100/month with I think a 5G data cap which is no good for me cause I work from home on the internet. Please give me some advice. I know you are super busy but I am desperate.

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  Год назад

      T-mobile does move your public IP around so that is what confuses your online bank. You should try a 3rd party 5g router. Or Verizon's 5G Home internet plan is $50/mo, delivers 300/20mbps of unlimited data.

    Hi Nate! Love the videos... very informative.
    I've had T-Mobile home internet for about a week now testing. They sent me a refurbished Nokia gateway. The main problem I'm having is that the unit drops connection for several seconds from time to time. The screen on the Nokia shows it's connected but I get a "no internet" message on the computer. Likewise the readings on the mobile app go blank on the Advanced cellular metrics screen, than come back after a few seconds.
    In your opinion could something like the Chester fix this?
    Thanks!
