  • Coupon codes below! Which is the fastest 3rd party gateway? Here's how each stack up compared to each other on T-Mobile 5G Internet service. I compare the Sagemcom 5688W, Peplink Pepwave Max BR1 Pro 5G, MoFI5500 EM9191 and the Chester Tech Repairs Cheetah gateway. The difference is shocking and it really shows how much tweaking/band locking/etc can affect your speeds. The stock gateways provide you with NO way to adjust these settings so you really need to go aftermarket to Peplink, Chester or others to open the door to faster internet. Plus these all give you easy options for external antennas if needed.

Thank you! My closest line of sight tower is over 5 miles. I had the stock T-mobile KVD21 with waveform 4x4 and it kept jumping towers from 5g to lte and it would grab some that are over 15 miles away. The Cheetah is working nicely and it is faster - I haven't tuned the antennas yet and I went from 70Mbs max to over 300Mbs max. And it isn't jumping all over the place. So this made t-mobile a viable option!

Now that the firmware on chester is a lot better in 2.2.2, I've been using it mostly, but i still have to use custom settings cause auto is poor. For example it'll auto sometimes to 3 LTE bands and no 5g, or it'll use 5G NSA with 1 5G and 2 LTE, when two 5G are avialable. I basically had to set it to 5G NR only so it actually connects and stays on n25+n71 for best possible speed and performance. Should definitely double check they all have latest updates.even chester ran like crap on the 1.x firmwares for me, it wasn't even in a usable state until 2.2.2

This was my experience exactly. I commented before reading yours. Mine would be very indecisive. Like it'd be connected to N71+n25 but then it'd decide "maybe 3 LTE bands are better?" or "maybe i should try n71+b2+b66". like it seems to be trying to change modes constantly in auto. I had to set it to SA/NR mode only to fix issue. once I did that, it stays rock solid on n71+n25. My tower never got 41 and probably never will. They seemed to have decided to go with n25 deployment on it only, which is the mid band, 71 is low band and 41 is the high band.

Nate I have to tell you how much your videos have helped me. I was using the stock T-Mobile Arcadyn gateway and even after turning off WiFi which was great, the reliability was lacking as I kept losing the 5G signal.
I upgraded to the Chester Cheetah and eventually added the Waverform 4x4. Speeds were amazing for downloads over 400 to sometimes 500. Download most horrible most times at barely 5 sometimes as low as 1.5. At times I would still lose connection altogether. My 5G signal always read as weak. I then your video where you said that you get better download speeds on N71. I turned off N41 and now my downloads are lower at 200 sometimes up to 300. However, my downlaods are always over 30 sometimes as high as 50. The 5G NSA signal reads as strong.
All of this with the waveform actually sitting in a window. I cannot wait to see what its like when I finally get it mounted outside.
    Thanks Nate.

@@NaterTater The weird thing is that when I was connected to N41, it would only aggregate 2 channels. Now that I forced it to N71, it aggregates 4 channels. It get 3 LTE, 66 and actually band 2 twice and N71 as a 5G channel. I didn't know you could connect to the same band multiple times.

Nate I'm not sure if youre aware, but the pepwave devices are very popular amoungst RVers. I was torn between the pepwave and the cheetah for my camper setup, and ultimately decided with the pepwave because of its ability to do failover. With that being said, I'm having a nightmare trying to troubleshoot connection issues with my BR1 Pro 5g with band n41. Pepwave is notoriously closed source, and they even denied me of support because i purchased a third party unit. From what I have read, some users are having issues with n41 on the BR1/2, but im not sure if a fix is on its way.

Do you have any suggestions on how to tell T-Mobile that one of their network channels is messed up? N41 in my area on an Arcadia or Chester Cheetah(I bought using your code) is actually fairly problematic. Connection dropped, almost unbearably slow speeds, name the problem I probably had it.
On the Arcadia I use antenna placement and tinfoil to block N41 and it fell back on N71 and I used the channel list to block n41 on the Cheetah. N71 works no problems at all on either device. No slow downs, no interrupts, no disconnects. I can't necessarily tell them I'm using my own device on their home internet because I don't want to get in trouble with them, I just want them to fix the issue and I'm not sure how to go about it

just pretend you can move your gateway to a spot that get n41 and it always sucks but when you move it to another spot it stays on n71. Explain over and over to the rep that something is up with n41. It could be a network issue or it could be network congestion on that band. Either way I wouldn't hold my breathe that they will urgently address it.

@@NaterTater Thanks! I'll check it out. I live very close to my tower. When home, I connect to bands 66, 2, 2, and 41. Aggragating 4 channels but only one is 5G. I will get speeds anywhere from 400 to 600 mbps down and 70 to 100mbps up, which is great, but when I drive around and connect to other towers I get 1 gig down and above! I've also tried SA mode, connecting to 25 and 41 bands but the speeds stay the same and my upload speed actually drops.. So I'm thinking my tower might be microwave. Also, I know all the houses and businesses (even directly next to the tower) in my area dont have fiber service available - yet. Anyway, I'm looking forward to upgrades so I can hopefully get that 1gig speeds at home soon. Hopefully theyre building out the fiber to upgrade the backhaul.

I've heard of them. Looked at them once or twice and at the time they were out of stock.

off topic but does this look like a basic Verizon cell tower? or will I be able to get 5G home plus with over 300 down or will I only be able to get up to 300 down with 5G home? Tower should be on any day now here is the pic: prnt.sc/OUbMHoxJt0_3

5G Home and 5G Home Plus are both throttled to 300/20Mbps when on 5G other than mmWave 5G which is uber rare, namely at stadiums and some colleges/industrial sites.
