I feel sorry for Joel Schumacher. He even admitted that this movie was a mess. He had a big argument with Warner Brothers that the toy manufacturers were getting too involved and too crazy and should revert back to the dark routes of the first two batman films directed by tim Burton.
And let's not forget Batman Forever the cut Schumacher originally made and you can definitely tell by the deleted scenes is much darker than the cut the studio released in theaters.

Not a great movie for sure. Still enjoy the shlock of it, the overall campiness of Arnold and Uma's performance. I think you should rank the Batman spin-offs of characters like Catwoman, Joker, etc.
This film is often considered to the worst Batman film of all time, but I really enjoy it. As for the positives, this film has two incredibly fun villains. Arnie's Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy are so much fun to watch in every scene they're in. Joel Schumacher was unfairly mocked for this film. I truly believe that Joel Schumacher was an easygoing, kind, compassionate man who was trying to make a film that people would enjoy. He had to deal with pressure from the studio, who wanted to make the film more family-friendly so they could sell more toys and other types of merchandise. Unlike some of the other versions of Batman, this film's Batman didn't kill anybody. He was a friendly hero. He saved the city and the world. It's a great feeling to witness a Batman that actually acts like a true hero. This film may be more simplistic and campier than what the fans wanted, but I truly believe that Joel Schumacher captured the heart and soul of Bill Finger's classic character.
@@cganimefan1267 I pointed that out in my review when I talked about the movie. I can still have some silly fun with this even though the movie not the best. If you really enjoy taking about Batman your always welcomed to my channel to talk whenever you like my friend. I can talk about Batman all day, if you feel the same.
Saw this in the theater twice. Saw it the summer before my senior year of high school. I didn’t hate it but I can see why many hated it. My favorite line believe it or not was when Mr. Freeze says “I Hate when people talk during the movie”. The main thing that annoyed the heck out of me was how many times I had to hear the phrase “Sometimes depending on someone else is the only way to win” how many do you have to say that man. This was the first movie that I ever saw George Clooney in and I must say everything else he’s done was great but not his one. After this film we waited 8 years for the next one. Thank goodness for Christopher Nolan as he saved the franchise.
I really don’t mind that Batgirl was made Alfred’s niece and think Silverstone was OK, also think Poison Ivy had some good moments (going goofy with her kind of makes sense). But yes, Mr. Freeze and Bane were really wasted.
I used to have the VHS copy of the film and we always like to poke fun at Batman and Robin. It was an awfully good bad movie. Since Joel Schumacher passed away in 2020, I have to take notes and find out what went wrong with the movie and who’s to blame for the film’s behind the scenes blunders resulting in Batman and Robin crashed and burned, sending the Caped Crusader seven years until we finally got a very gritty Batman movie, Batman Begins in 2005 and let’s just say, the rest is history. I used to have one of the Kenner Batman toys as seen in the VHS version.
Was glad to learn that the cast was able to share their thoughts on how bad this film was. Good know them tried to make a film that could be entertaining to all of us. It’s too bad it had to be such a misfire.
I bet Joel Schumacher probably would have done a darker Batman if allowed to. But we gotta remember that he was brought in to make it brighter and campier than Tim Burton. He was just doing what the studio wanted
@@megamikethemovieman I like The Batman, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises most. I grew up with those movies so I’m not as big on the older ones though I appreciate their history.

I honestly don't mind Clooney as Batman and Bruce Wayne, not his fault, he was just given a bad material to work with same goes to Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy and Chris O'Donnell as Robin, they could've been great as their characters if they're given a better material to work with
If you treat this movie as a comedy and don’t take it too seriously it’s actually a very enjoyable and funny watch. I couldn’t stop laughing when Bane was saying BOOOMMMB. 😂😂
I don’t think I’ve ever watched a movie that was only made for the soul purpose of toys as much as this movie. There’s a reason that Batman was a punchline to a million jokes back in the late ninety’s and early two thousand’s. It’s because this movie is a bit of a train wreck.
Great review Sean There is actually one good villain in this movie and that is Dr Jason Woodrue, the mad doctor that made Poison Ivy. So funny! Also that terrorists gathering is so funny
Despite Batman and Robin being my least favourite Batman movie, I can still enjoy watching it. I can enjoy a terrible movie if it's unintentionally hilarious and entertaining unlike Fant4stic which was a bad movie that took it way too seriously
I’ve seen Batman & Robin twice, and it’s definitely the worst Batman movie. I watched this for the first time last year one weekend by myself, and it was such a horrible film that made me cringe throughout. It’s basically a 2 hour toy commercial where there’s so many insane moments that don’t add up, and had me questioning how this movie exists in the way it does. I did a watch-party for this movie with some buddies on Discord, and it was such a fun and hilarious experience. It’s still a really awful movie, but it’s definitely a fun watch when watching it with friends to poke fun at how bad it is.
I saw Batman & Robin for the first time about a year and a half ago, and the one part of the movie I remember was at the beginning, after Batman and Robin go on the first mission to stop Mr. Freeze. Alfred winces in pain because he's sick, but I honestly thought he was cringing as he reacted to Batman and Robin's behavior. It wasn't until the middle/end of the movie that I realized, "Oh, he was wincing in pain, not cringing!"
I saw this movie for the first time when I was about 7, and even at that age, I thought it was terrible. I tried to rewatch it recently and couldn't even get through the whole movie.
I watched this movie one time in 2008. I had just watched The Dark Knight in theaters and became curious about Batman's history in cinema. So I watched the four films from 1989-97. I thought Batman '89 was silly compared to the Joker story from Dark Knight. I hoped that they would take the franchise a little more seriously after that. When I got to Batman & Robin, it took just the crotch shots and bat nipples to tell me this was just the worst superhero movie ever made in my opinion. Given, I have not seen Fant4stic (which I hear is actually the worst one), but that's just my opinion.
Ironically, I actually kind of enjoy this movie just because of how ridiculous it is. It’s undoubtedly bad, but it’s perfect to watch with friends if you want something to make fun of which is exactly what I do.
This is easily the worst Batman movie ever made. Batman and Robin was so bad, I thought about walking in front of a bus, after I saw the film. TERRANCE OUT
Alright, as a huge fan of the Schumacher movies, let me fill in the pros: -the fact that Batman redeems a villain for the first time in the films, being Mr. Freeze -campiness is escalated, if that's your preference -Uma Thurman owns her role as Ivy and Pamela -after a bunch of failed romances, Batman finally has a family -the venom serum implies the Bane we get is a prototype Bane, and the TRUE Bane can emerge when venom is perfected -Ivy's betrayal of Freeze turns him from a loyal husband to a maniac, being a pretty tragic arc -Batgirl learns that Alfred's role as a butler is his choice as part of the family -Batman acknowledges the weight his legacy pushes on Robin, so he trusts him to play a critical role in getting info from Ivy -the movie was intentionally hilarious and paid homage to the 60s like Forever, but even more so -Eliot Goldenthol and Smashing Pumpkins
One more thing I forgot to mention about this film. It has something the other three didn’t have. 1. The villains don’t reveal Batman’s Identity 2. The Villians both survive 3. Bruce Wayne’s Love interest has nothing to do with the plot, Lastly I used to watch the 60s tv series so it was weird for me to see Batman and Robin not working together very well, so much so that Robin wanted his own Robin Signal. I wonder if we will ever see Robin or Bat Girl in a live action movie again,
Ah yes, The Room of superhero movies. Nearly every aspect of this movie is baffling from beginning to end with how bad it is. Every line, every plot beat, and every character are horrendous. The villains are particularly awful (Bane especially). The only “good” thing about the movie is Alfred and his scenes. Otherwise it is a mess from beginning to end. However, I enjoyed watching the movie and laughing at how bad it was. The bad ice puns from Mr. Freeze are awful, yet highly entertaining. There is never a dull moment in this movie, even if the movie is bad. I would rather rewatch this one than Suicide Squad or Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer again. I only watched this movie once last week, and it is just as bad as everyone says. It is quite enjoyable despite the awfulness of the movie. It is truly a bizarre movie!
I actually think it’s refreshing now in retrospect that this was a lighter version of Batman who had overcome his parents deaths. When you get burnt out on the constant realistic gritty takes on Batman, this is a good break away. It feels like a comic book especially the silver age era.And the lighting and costumes are fun and very comic book like too. The look of Gotham is fun too.
Sue me. I like this film. Well, at least parts of it. I liked seeing Batman, Robin, and Batgirl work together and Alfred’s near death storyline got me emotional.
I can enjoy a bad movie if it's entertaining and not boring unlike Fant4stic which was just a godawful superhero movie that takes itself way too seriously and there's nothing entertaining or uninteresting hilarious about the movie
As an adult now, I love this movie as a pure comedy. Of course I thought it was a great movie when I saw it when I was a kid……nah haha It’s hilarious and I will always love it for that. It’s so bad it’s great “How much you got?” “How much YOU got?!” I crack up every time
I think had the movie had heavy emotions with Mr Freeze and Alfred dying, or just been completely silly the whole movie, rather than try both, it would work better. I still do enjoy this movie though, I think it’s super overhated even if it isn’t good.
I will forever say this about movies and that is sometimes the best story is what's behind the camera. I say that because the story from behind a camera can often tell a story that nobody knows about. Something that I admire about directors like Joel Schumacher is that they will admit they're mistake. In fact something that I will admit about WB is that they will admit when they have released a bad movie and how they go about apologizing for it. For example they apologizing for the theatrical cut of Justice league with Zack Snyder's original vision while at the same time apologizing to Snyder. Kinda wish the other studios would take note of this.
As bad as this film is I still prefer it to forever which was mostly boring. michael gough gives a great performance as alfred and he saves batman and robin from being a complete farce
Jeep Swenson American professional wrestler played bane, yet Jeep Swenson is not on the dvd cover he looks so amazing, Tom Hardy bane was normal man with mask on
Sean stop saying Schumacher delivered his vision for Batman . Schumacher was instructed to make the film more toyetic. This wasn't his ideal vision for Batman . What you saw in Batman and Robin was the vision of studio executives and toy companies Schumacher kind of admitted he only signed on to the studio mandated vision for money . I thought the musical score by Elliot Goldenthal was quite good a very appropriate for the tone of film . It's probably the only redeeming quality of the film . I feel sorry for all ser and prop designers who obviously must have spent so much time designing the gadgets and accessories the studio wanted only for the audience to hate the movie. Also Visual Effects, artist John Dysktra who won an Oscar for his work on the original Star Wars worked on this film . He would subsequently win Oscar for Spider-Man 2. Andrew Adamson who would go onto direct the first couple of Shrek and Walden Media Narnia films also worked as VFX artist. Also this was the 2nd biggest budgeted film of 1997 behind Titanic. Watch it with the director commentary on and it is even funnier.
Bro it’s been so long since I watched the movie I actually enjoyed it as a kid, when I rewatched it yesterday it took me 2 days to finish it because of how bored I kept getting, even with Batman forever I was able to sit down and watch it in one seating😭
I saw it opening night. I loved it, a few months later when the VHS came out, not so much. I'll still watch it over a lot of other comic book movies though and remember kids, this movies second week box office was better than that of Batman V Superman.
I am like the 1% who actually loves this movie I mean it’s entertaining and that is what a movie should be however that’s my opinion 🦇🦇🦇🦇 and I appreciate other peoples opinions on the film I just like to watch this movie and CHILL
#SeanChandlerTalksAbout Hey Sean, are you planning on covering Batman: The Animated Series? Since you like it so much, you could bring a lot of fun, insightful content about it!
Whooohoo watched this multiple times on cable tv on Saturdays growing up lol this is a nostalgia trip for me, while a campiest of them all, I highly enjoyed Ivy and Freeze, both actors did what they were supposed to do and they clearly had fun doing it Clooney as Batman is not bad but quite forgettable and bland, he always looked like a Bruce Wayne type but he just doesn’t have it like Val and Keaton did, Alicia was basically just there for no reason but to have extra hands, she felt forced in the movie, story itself is weird too with 2 different plots happening at the same time….yeah as an adult you see the issues beyond having fun 6/10
It really wasn't Schumacher's vision at all - Warner Bros demanded he turn up the campy, bright, toy-friendly style to max volume. Batman Forever was a pretty fun movie, even with the goofier tone, but WB didn't think it was enough - It was absolutely their interference that destroyed Batman & Robin.
This was actually the first movie I remember ever seeing, period. My dad got it on VHS, and we were watching it after a visit to SeaWorld. In that regard, it will always hold a slight sentiment.... But not enough to overcome how silly it is.
Batman & Robin is the perfect example of a Bizarro-World movie: total lunacy on a big screen. But it's not a boring film. However, if I'm in the mood for escapists entertainment, I'll usually watch an Andy Sidaris film. One of my favorites is Hard Ticket To Hawaii (1987): a great B-Movie action film with girls, guns & plenty of 80s/90s cheese.
This was the first batman movie I watched for two reasons. One: I was never a big batman fan so i just didn't care about the movies. Two: My mom had a crush on the actor playing Robin. I have gotten more into the superhero movies and still like to watch this movie when i was to laugh at some stupidity.

Lmao! I forgot how funny the “Now you’re going to have to die” line was from John Glover.
Sue me. I like this film. Well, at least parts of it. I liked seeing Batman, Robin, and Batgirl work together and Alfred’s near death storyline got me emotional.
Bro wtf
@@papanutt1327 Yeah, I’m weird. haha
Sure, it may be corny but it’s fun and enjoyable!
I can enjoy a bad movie if it's entertaining and not boring unlike Fant4stic which was just a godawful superhero movie that takes itself way too seriously and there's nothing entertaining or uninteresting hilarious about the movie
As an adult now, I love this movie as a pure comedy.
Of course I thought it was a great movie when I saw it when I was a kid……nah haha
It’s hilarious and I will always love it for that. It’s so bad it’s great
“How much you got?”
“How much YOU got?!” I crack up every time
For the good he said the shots are in focus 😅
3:22-You wasted NO TIME in getting to the bad, I can’t say I blame you. I’m trying to think of any positives, but don’t think that I can at the moment
I saw this movie in the theater when I was four years old it was the first movie I remember seeing in the theaters
3:09 lol so short “the good “
after your previous batman reviews its so funny and different that your good only lasted 8 seconds
A very good and detailed review the logic behind it was very good
Seeing as I was born in 96, I saw (and admittedly loved) it as a little kid watching it on DVD.
Has to be the shortest “THE GOOD” segment yet!
As bad as this film is I still prefer it to forever which was mostly boring. michael gough gives a great performance as alfred and he saves batman and robin from being a complete farce
I'm glad you made that comment about George Clooney cause I didn't think he was that bad in this.
Jeep Swenson
American professional wrestler played bane, yet Jeep Swenson is not on the dvd cover he looks so amazing, Tom Hardy bane was normal man with mask on
Sean stop saying Schumacher delivered his vision for Batman .
Will he just skip the good section?
Well he didn't. It just only lasted for 20 seconds.
Greatest. Movie. Of. All. Time
While your ranking the movies can you also rank the villains
That was quite possibly the shortest "The Good" section I've ever seen in any of your videos lol
The Alfred not having money stuff: seriously WTF?!? When Barbara shows up she said Alfred supports her.
This was the second Batman movie I watched (first being "Batman Begins"). Big change of tone from the Nolan ones lol.
Excited to watch THE BATMAN!
I have never watched this, and I plan not too.
I liked Batman & Robin when I was a kid, I seen it in the cinema and I revisited it last March.
I just watched this yesterday, and I have to say, I totally loved it!
I like how the good section was only 10 seconds
The shots are in focus 😂😂😂
Bro it’s been so long since I watched the movie I actually enjoyed it as a kid, when I rewatched it yesterday it took me 2 days to finish it because of how bored I kept getting, even with Batman forever I was able to sit down and watch it in one seating😭
i was born in 2001, so i kinda grew up with the burton films, Schumacher and nolan trilogy
Whooohoo watched this multiple times on cable tv on Saturdays growing up lol this is a nostalgia trip for me, while a campiest of them all, I highly enjoyed Ivy and Freeze, both actors did what they were supposed to do and they clearly had fun doing it
Clooney as Batman is not bad but quite forgettable and bland, he always looked like a Bruce Wayne type but he just doesn’t have it like Val and Keaton did, Alicia was basically just there for no reason but to have extra hands, she felt forced in the movie, story itself is weird too with 2 different plots happening at the same time….yeah as an adult you see the issues beyond having fun
6/10
i have so much respect that you could talk for 22 mins about this film ahaha :)
Schwarzenegger and his ice puns!
God Arnold, just stop!🤦
Ha, this makes me want to watch this again....rocket ships, I don't remember that. But haven't seen it in so long. 🤣🤣
I enjoyed this more than I enjoyed batman returns
Best Batman movie ever discuss
This was actually the first movie I remember ever seeing, period. My dad got it on VHS, and we were watching it after a visit to SeaWorld. In that regard, it will always hold a slight sentiment.... But not enough to overcome how silly it is.
Batman Forever was the first movie I watched in theaters and still does benefit from that.
It is hilarious how Sean only talked about the good for 15 seconds 🤣 😂 😆
Not much I can say that hasn't been said already.
The only Bat suit In the Batman movies to have Bat nipples.
Can you please rank the peacemaker episodes?
lol The shot's were in focus.
I was 4 with this movie came out and still never got into these movies. I watched the batman 66 show on loop and loved the animated series.
This was the first batman movie I watched for two reasons. One: I was never a big batman fan so i just didn't care about the movies. Two: My mom had a crush on the actor playing Robin. I have gotten more into the superhero movies and still like to watch this movie when i was to laugh at some stupidity.
Greatest movie ever made, love it. "Never leave the batcave without out" 🦇
