Really George Clooney? This movie is George Clooney playing George Clooney as Batman. Chris O'Donnell did well as Robin and Ahrnold did well as Freeze.
Everyone make fun of Arnold in that, but I think he did pretty well, how can you deliver those lines without sounding like a moron. He did as well as anyone could
So, the way I took the Superman "joke" at 6:50 was, although Clooney's delivery is OFF by a LONG shot, Batman was referring to Robin annoyingly demanding a car of his own. That's why Superman works alone, so he doesn't have to deal with a bratty sidekick demanding things.
I know people hate batman & robin and rightfully so. However for me I have a soft spot for it maybe it’s tied to some nostalgia probably is. Also Uma Thurman was great for ivy one of my many childhood crushes good times.
Oh yes, Uma Thurman is a fantastic actress and a truly interesting woman. Not a bimbo, but an intelligent, engaging and of course beautiful woman. But in her case her beauty is only a small part of what makes her attractive.
Exactly the same with me , when I was a kid I absolutely loved this movie , I was blown away by it when it released back in 1997 , however growing up you understand more & i realised it’s not a good movie , but I have that soft spot for it too when I remember watching it though my eyes as a child..
I now refer to this final Schumacher Batman entry as "Batman: Live!!! Six Flags Magic Mountain" since it basically feels like a musical or theme park live show.
So why is there so much Batman "fans" that don't know that the comics of the sixties were _exactly_ like the Adam West show... making this movie pretty damn comic accurate. Not saying it's a great movie, but "fans" that hate it for "not being accurate" are just ignorant of the comics history. Also, this is still the only Batman film where Batman doesn't kill anyone. BTW, Nolans films are the _least_ accurate adaptations, despite their quality. That's coming from someone who's been reading comics for 30 years... "realism" is never what I read comics for... and _that's_ how you can spot actual comic readers, we don't give 2 shits about realism.
I don't think Clooney was just playing "Clooney", I think he was playing "Clooney who doesn't give a shit" throughout most of the film. (except in the scenes with Alfred) =)
Didn't he flat out state as such in an interview somewhere? He also said something along the lines of 'playing Batman as gay as possible'. Which I assume refers to the constant grins and head spasming/jerking.
I grew up with this film, I’ve been watching it my whole life and I honestly love it. Batman and Robin (1997) is one of the panned film ever. I agree with everyone who hates this flick. Mostly due to the performances and child-like nature of this film. Similar to Battlefield Earth and this film they both bombed so hard at the box office. At least, Batman Forever and Batman Returns was better than this 1997’s film. Thanks to the failure of this film, we got Christopher Nolan to reboot this series starting with 2005’s Batman Begins, 2008’s The Dark Knight, and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. And, re-rebooted with Zack Synder’s Batman with Ben Affleck in the role from Batman V Superman (2016) and Justice League (2017/ZS2021). Surprisingly, it was re-re-rebooted with Robert Pattinson in the role in this recent film. I do agree of letting the toy merchants being heavily involved with the project. I honestly don't think this movie is as bad as people say it is. I don't think it's a good movie and I don't care about this movie but I think people over exaggerated how bad this movie was
In all honesty, I would watch Batman & Robin a million times before I ever watched BvS, Suicide Squad, or Justice League again. At least B&R is entertainingly bad. At least it knows what it wants to be. At least it actually has colour. Most of the DCEU is a directionless, colourless, boring eyesore.
Phil Michaels I also feel this way. I think B&R is entertaining shlock, it's silly and it works on a basic level. I watched it for the first time when I was ten years old, so I actually disagree with Oliver because it was fun for me at that time, and still is. Of course in hindsight I would've preferred a more comic-accurate depiction of Batman, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying B&R every few years. B&R is so over-the-top silly that I think it can be forgiven. Unlike certain modern films *cough* BvS *cough* TLJ *cough* SS *cough.* Man, I need to get my cough checked out, that went on a little too long.
Phil Michaels, it just goes to show that Warner Bros. learned nothing B&R's failure. If Nolan wasn't a no-nonsense filmmaker, his movies would've ended up like crap from too much studio influence as well.
Oh, man. The dreaded Batman and Robin. I actually saw this in the theater when I was 14. I remember thinking it was a joke, and I was a huge comic book reader even at that age. At the time, I thought I was getting too old for comics, but time has proven that not to be the case, lol. I love comics and comic films, just not bad ones
Totally agreed on the Alfred scenes with Clooney both great actors with decent writing. I think that if they went all the way with a tragic story for both Mr Freeze and Alfred the movie will be better
Who would you cast today as Mr Freeze and Poison Ivy? My choice would be Bryan Cranston as Mr Freeze and Jessica Chastain as Poison Ivy. That would be excellent casting.
From what I've seen, Poison Ivy wasn't very good in this film. The design, the casting and the character all fell flat. Your fan casting is already much better.
no, please. This channel is perfectly comfy and doesn't need galactic size shitstorm which coming after. Besides, everyone knows how exactly rates prequels and mouse shit.
Bash the toys all you'd like, anyone who's interested, but the tie in promotions were fantastic. I still have my collection of four glass mugs from McDonald's for this movie and they still look spectacular. EDIT: Never mind. The glasses are for _Batman Forever._
See how Joel Schumacher apologized to fans for making a mess of a movie & not attack them... now that's a real director... take note Rian idiot Johnson!
THANK YOU! Thinking the exact same thing. If Rian Johnson would just apologize, then maybe throw himself into a volcano or a crocodile infested swamp, all would be forgiven.
@Tony S Apologize for what? That star wars fans are another prime example on why we as a society can't have things because we don't know act to fucking act?
This came out while I was in Basic Training. I’m a huge Batman fan. When I finally was finished with BMT and technical training, I bought the VHS of this immediately....boy I was so disappointed haha has. God this movie sucked lol.
Funny as a kid, I watched the hell out of this movie along with Batman Forever. It even introduced me to the character as a whole, and I've come to learn and accept that Schumacher's Batman feels more comical with some understanding to it, with Burton putting up a more darker tone but still finds some understanding. Needless to say as I grew up, I began to understand the critics bashing at this movie and it's completely valid. At one point, I sided with them too. But in the end, I only say my critics, and then put them away and accept them for what they are. But if I'm telling the truth... I don't think I'll ever hate this movie. I don't have to like it or not, but I can't hate it. It would just hurt my childhood, and I can't go through with it. So regardless of it's flaws and wrongs, I've accepted it for what it is. An imperfect, full of flaws, and a messy movie that is Batman & Robin.
I think Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy working together is a really, really bad idea, almost any story/film that tried to have that would feel really dumb, forced, nonsensical.
James Minglis Yes. Unfortunately. There's also an awful joke at the end when he gives Bruce the cure to Alfred's disease that may actually be even worse than his ice puns.
I loved Mr,. Freeze's costume because it looked really great. Although the rest of the film was stupidly bad. Bad writing, bad casting, and all around bad ideas. Yes, I liked the idea of bringing in Bane, but Bane needed his own film. Arnie was not needed for this role.
I can still watch this movie but more often than not i skip it. Dont like the batmobile, hate the ice gadgets including the vehicles and hate the suits at the end.
Okay, but the director said he wasn't attempting to go for that or outright camp. Regardless, it still doesn't negate the criticisms towards the movie.
In fact I don't think it was trying to be like the 60's Batman at all, it was more of a comedy with the villains since they were portrayed as Joker knock offs.
Anyone who complained about Jennifer Lawerence's performance in the last couple of X-Men films, need to be forced to watch Alicia Silverstone's scenes from this movie on a 90 minute loop. She LOOKED terrible, and her dialogue was terrible, and her performance was terrible.

I like Arnold and the score.
Uma Thurman had bad dialogue in this film? I'm confused if you talking about the whole film. Lol.
Could you please do a retrospective of the star wars prequels?
no, please. This channel is perfectly comfy and doesn't need galactic size shitstorm which coming after. Besides, everyone knows how exactly rates prequels and mouse shit.
Val Kilmer went right with The a Saint. Oliver, please do a retrospective on that!
It's why Superman works alone, because he has Lois Lane
Bash the toys all you'd like, anyone who's interested, but the tie in promotions were fantastic. I still have my collection of four glass mugs from McDonald's for this movie and they still look spectacular.
EDIT: Never mind. The glasses are for _Batman Forever._
11:18 R. Kelly... oh dear
My Favourite so bad it's good flim
Oliver I love your reviews! This was our #1 choice for our Bad Movie Club.
See how Joel Schumacher apologized to fans for making a mess of a movie & not attack them... now that's a real director... take note Rian idiot Johnson!
First thing that came to my mind too.
THANK YOU! Thinking the exact same thing. If Rian Johnson would just apologize, then maybe throw himself into a volcano or a crocodile infested swamp, all would be forgiven.
@@capitalcitygoofball1987 😂😂😂😂
@Harris Caldwelly
Yes. Rian Johnson is truly the worst thing ever.
Uh......
Right.
@Tony S
Apologize for what?
"This isn't a movie!" "It's an incredibly impressive (stage play)!
I think Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy working together is a really, really bad idea, almost any story/film that tried to have that would feel really dumb, forced, nonsensical.
Is every line of Arnold's in this an ice pun?
James Minglis Yes. Unfortunately.
There's also an awful joke at the end when he gives Bruce the cure to Alfred's disease that may actually be even worse than his ice puns.
@@livclark8154 "Take two of these.....and call me in the morning!"
Smith Wesson Yep, that's the one. *SHIVERS*
My Number 1 guilty pleasure and could watch every week 😂🤣😂
I loved Mr,. Freeze's costume because it looked really great. Although the rest of the film was stupidly bad. Bad writing, bad casting, and all around bad ideas. Yes, I liked the idea of bringing in Bane, but Bane needed his own film. Arnie was not needed for this role.
I can still watch this movie but more often than not i skip it. Dont like the batmobile, hate the ice gadgets including the vehicles and hate the suits at the end.
I love this stuff.
A lot of this score (and by default the score to Batman Forever) is IDENTICAL to the same composer's score of Demolition Man.
This film was complete bullocks!
It’s entertaining in a non conventional way!
although this is a reupload- i'm still gonna rewatch this retrospective :^)
Arnold's most cheese one-liners ever the entire film. Shook my head nearly 10 minutes worth
Maybe if Terry Gillian made it.... Think about it, it looks just like Brazil.
R K, that would be Batman ‘89.
This movie has stood the test of time...in the same way Plan 9 has.
This movie is up there with matrix resurrections
Matrix resurrections is a good movie
Batman and Robin is up there with Thor love and thunder
If you look at it as a updated "1960's Adam West" Batman. It's Fun !!!
It's not supposed to be Serious.
Okay, but the director said he wasn't attempting to go for that or outright camp. Regardless, it still doesn't negate the criticisms towards the movie.
@@Ergeniz Agreed. It is Super Fun, one of my favorites. I put it in it's own category. I think it doesn't get a Fair Shake as just a Fun movie...
In fact I don't think it was trying to be like the 60's Batman at all, it was more of a comedy with the villains since they were portrayed as Joker knock offs.
Plus The Great Jeep Swenson as Bane
Anyone who complained about Jennifer Lawerence's performance in the last couple of X-Men films, need to be forced to watch Alicia Silverstone's scenes from this movie on a 90 minute loop. She LOOKED terrible, and her dialogue was terrible, and her performance was terrible.
She delivered all her lines through the side of her mouth as well, as if she'd had a stroke.
@@MrNegativecreep07 I totally noticed that. I was waiting for someone else to say it first. I found it weird that the studio approved her in the role, looking like that. All the women in Hollywood and you choose the woman to play Batgirl with the crooked mouth.
MADGUNS FOREVER™ it also affected Alicia Silverstone’s career as well as Chris O’Donnell and even hurt Arnold’s career for sometime as his movies after Eraser in 1996 he didn’t have the big hits like did in 1980s and early 90s
1:24 Just in case you had me confused with George Clooney.
Keep up the great work
