Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
That final result is really beautiful and I appreciate the tip on the shellac paint as primer. My only worry would be removing those stringer rails at the bottom. Because there isn't really a structural panel in the middle and the back isn't structural, they were doing a lot of the work from keeping this model from sagging in the middle. It depends on the pine, but there's a good chance this could sag over time. If it were mine I'd install another leg in the very middle. Just a thought. Again, awesome concept.
Wow I love this! I love how you didn’t cut out the inner drawer front and then attach the cane to the back. Your way was so much simpler and cleaner looking and I love it!🤍
That is a wonderful dresser now.. I love the way that caning changes it into something way above the usual Ikea DIY hack. Great job, thank you for sharing this one.
For those of us without paint laying around and starting fresh: The Valspar cabinet and furniture paint is great for this. Leaves no brush marks and drawers don’t stick. It’s a hybrid paint.
Hey Megan, I copied exactly what you did on a different piece of furniture and it came out great! I found a different method for filling in the gaps between the edges of the trims and it saved me a few hours of work; instead of rubbing the wood filler with your fingers and then sanding it, I applied it directly from the tube across the diagonal gap and then immediately wiped it from both sides and corners using a wet cloth. You can quickly sand it when it dries if you want to get the smooth feel but it is only recommended :)
I'm surprised you used wood filler and then didn't do anything more than sand! I know you had to fill the shadow line, but it was hard to tell if it looked finished up close? Excellent video!
It looked really unfinished in the final shots. You could see a color difference in the corners because she only sanded the corners. I’d advice to (at least) sand the entire trim
I almost never comment on videos (at least not in a negative connotation for sure) but I absolutely had to here. I really liked the overall design concept. BUT... leaving wood filler exposed in that manner literally ruined the overall final product. Maybe do a little touch up which might hide this, be more precise with the jointing, use a different filler method/product... OR another option for others considering this design is move all the trim in at least 1/2" to inset it and fill in the same manner, but then paint those the same as the dresser frame while still leaving the rest of the drawer unfinished. I would then move the pulls inside of the weaved material or switch them to a lighter colored pull for the contrast. Regardless, nice idea but less than stellar final product. Although if it's meant to be a temporary piece while renting I suppose it's not the worst it could look.
Megan, I just found you looking for daybed ideas, then this dresser and love your creativity and style. And you did all this with a sweet 2yo helper and ~8 months pregnant-Wow. Also like how you do it in the space and used what you have. I am a new follower and look forward to watching more of your work.
Brilliant job and creative elevations to a basic piece. Definitely going to upgrade mine....thanks for the inspiration 💯. Barefoot and pregnant with a toddler doing it better than most!
Wow, WOW! Such an incredible project! My bedroom furniture, wardrobe, bedside tables and dresser are all in the British Raj style, dark Indian rubber tree wood with pale wicker panels which I loved when I purchased the furniture in around 2007. Now, however, I'm desperate to upcycle so have got some chalk furniture paint in a 'sage green/grey' shade which will compliment the wicker panels. You've truly inspired me with your amazing project, well done.
Oh my goodness...I absolutely love this! I found the same dresser at IKEA marked down in the As-Is section recently and am totally going to do this, maybe with white for our beach home! Totally Serena & Lily vibes without the cost! Thank you for sharing!
Great looking dresser! Just a minor suggestion - After cutting all the drawer frames, I would put together with CA glue (glue and activator). It's quite strong and will allow you to add the wood fill, sand and finish before attaching to the drawer fronts.
Probably the best IKEA TARVA makeover I have seen on youtube! Love the colour choice, pairs so well with the natural wood. Don't mind me if I copy this DIY with my own twist :)
I just discovered you this morning and now I can't get anything done ! Coffee & You. lol I have already learned so much and gotten so many useful tips.thanks
Came across this ladies site by accident and was wondering how this would improve the furniture piece, now it's finished I absolutely love it and it would work with any flat doors or drawers and make the item exceptable in any room in your home
Really amazing. Looks perfect in that room. I saw another Tarva video a few days ago, I think your blows that one out of the water. And of course you loved that paint in your old house.
I was wondering how come you just have 70,000 subscribers? but you have 15,000 likes already, when I watching the video all the way to the end , I totally understand why , you are great !
@UCFbevro2zHT0OYrTdE_TFgw Alright Jersey! Ohio has bi polar transitions of seasons. The summers are hot and humid last fall was the first true fall In Years in Ohio the trees and weather was awesome !!! Our springs are awkward because winter sometimes tries to Sabotage its arrival and teases us like its comin and things start to booom just to get a week of a cold snap that dashes your spirits and the things that bloomed! Winter wasn't awful this year just cold for a change and it tried to leave in good timing but rated it's cold attitude in April and some of May. Then you may have tons of rain that keeps you from your garden and flowers beds or no rain and everything have burns up and you can't justify a huge water bill just to keep it all alive😵💫like I said Ohio is bi-polar!!! I personally hate the cold my hubby and I say we're going to find a spot in Florida with our kiddos and for family to visit. My hubby loves the seasons in Ohio I don't have to have the seasons tho they can be beautiful when each one acts right and knows it's place . But when all is said and done after the last year and a half we've had I'm not complaining I'm happy that I have a beautiful family and a spiritual appreciation for all the beautiful things our creator provides for us to enjoy and complain about 😂
You did a fabulous job. Love it! Just saw another version of this by Lone Fox Home. He used Raffia but it came out great too. This is the first time I have seen you & have subscribed! Looking forward to more of your videos.

The paint color would not have been my first choice, but when you showed the finished product, I was like, YES!
I appreciate that!

Yup, that's why the original has a support leg!
WOW. This no longer looks like anything you’d find in IKEA, more like one of those high end shops. Stunning, Darling. Bravo 👏🏻 xxx
That's what I thought! thank you!
Wow I love this! I love how you didn’t cut out the inner drawer front and then attach the cane to the back. Your way was so much simpler and cleaner looking and I love it!🤍
Thanks so much! 😊

I dunno, I've found that using any kind of filler in trim gaps like that looks bad over time as the wood naturally expands and contracts.
@@katarinahinsey3931 What do you recommend instead? Thanks.
@@jenjen2824 make precise cuts, measure a lot and get it as close as you can. This takes practice but the outcome is good workmanship.

I agree. Though the camera moved across pretty quickly - the filler was very obvious. I was really surprised to see it left so unfinished.

Love the green. Stunning remake. Seems like It just flows. ☺️
I think so too!
Love your style on furniture. Might try this on the dresser I have to redo on my list of refurbishing furniture pieces.
Very, very nice. You've given me the courage now to use cane. So pretty.
Thank you for explaining exactly what you did to change out those blocky looking legs. Very nice end result.
Classy looking. I am enjoying the two tone looks that I am seeing on DIY RUclips channels. It totally refreshes and personalizies home furnishings
Wow! Never thought that you can DIY a boring IKEA pc into this kind of Mid century style. So inspiring!💕

I’ve never heard Ikea instructions described as "awesome" before. You can put ikea furniture together for me anytime! Nice project. Making notes.
Brilliant job and creative elevations to a basic piece. Definitely going to upgrade mine....thanks for the inspiration 💯. Barefoot and pregnant with a toddler doing it better than most!
How creative! I really love this dresser. By the way, you look radiant 😊
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that 🤗
Wow, just WOW! That turned out to be a beautiful piece of furniture! Love it!!
Well done Megan, it looks so professional. Best wishes to you and your Family.
Thank you! You too!
Very nice, and muuuucccch better than ruining a vintage piece!
Wow I didn’t know Ikea sold unfinished furniture. This turned out great!
They have a lot of unifinished items you can stain or paint. Brilliant concept, I think!

wow! really nice. This is the best DIY cane cabinet I've seen so far. Kudos!
Wow, thank you!
Great looking dresser! Just a minor suggestion - After cutting all the drawer frames, I would put together with CA glue (glue and activator). It's quite strong and will allow you to add the wood fill, sand and finish before attaching to the drawer fronts.
You have magical hands, Megan !! loved it
Thank you so much!!

So talented. The dresser is beautiful
I love the paint color on the walls! I wish you knew what it was!
The dresser is stunning!
NM, just watched your empty apartment tour and you said it! 😄
Oh. My. God. I am so obsessed!!!
Wow ! It is beautifully done. Thank you for sharing your beautiful piece of furniture that you have done.
Wow! Thank you so much for this video. I love luxury furniture pieces but its never in my budget. This will help me in the near future!
Same! Glad you found it helpful
Stunning, Megan! Now I need to find a place for that green somewhere in my house.
Turned out amazing.
Such a beautiful piece! Very impressive
Its really beatyful. I will try it! I wouldnt be using wood filler on trims, it looks kinda weird and you can see where you sanded.
Looks spectacular! I even stopped the video to enjoy the new appearance!
Came across this ladies site by accident and was wondering how this would improve the furniture piece, now it's finished I absolutely love it and it would work with any flat doors or drawers and make the item exceptable in any room in your home
Really nice! I could also imagine a graphic wallpaper instead of the cane. Great job.
Amazing! I don't usually like the color this style of furniture is usually sold in
.
I love this especially the light against the dark.
Megan l love how great the dresser turned out.
Thank you for saying so!
Brave woman spray painting in the house with wood floor and the smallish drop cloth. LOL I would have had overspray everywhere! :D
Zinsser BIN is an amazing primer, but if you get overspray on something you are not getting it off.
You are so creative!! Looks awesome!🥰
Thank you! 🤗
love the green shadow, it is gorgeous. running to Ikea, hope it is still in stock!
Its stunning, lovely paint job. Personally I would have painted the trim the same colour as the shell.
I'm a little bit leery of green but you pulled it off for this piece. Turned out to be a real beaut!
Wow on the finished product. ❤️. You made it look easy.
Thank you for this video! I think I might try this but stain the drawers a dark wood and user a darker mesh
Sounds gorgeous!
Вау,выглядит очень хорошо, у вас просто золотые руки!
Amazing like every project you do!!!
Thank you! 😊
Really amazing. Looks perfect in that room. I saw another Tarva video a few days ago, I think your blows that one out of the water. And of course you loved that paint in your old house.
I appreciate that!
I love your use of caning. I have some extremely large kitchen cabinet doors I'd like to try this with. Do you think the caning would lie flat?

I have these same Ikea tarva dressers and I've been trying to decide a look for them. Yours turned out beautiful 🤗
Thank you!
Absolutely love the transformation ✌🏼
Thank you 🙌
I was wondering how come you just have 70,000 subscribers? but you have 15,000 likes already, when I watching the video all the way to the end , I totally understand why , you are great !

Yes! Saw that. I love what he did as well. Only beat him by two days 😅
You have amazing skills! It turned out so beautiful and unique. Wow!
Many many thanks
This turned out so lovely! 🥰
Thank you! 😊
@Matt H. I'm watching from Nevada!
Oh my goodness, so beautiful!
Cute! If someone has a pin nailer that would help with trim attachment vs long clamp time to let glue setup.
True! I just moved and no longer have a garage, so this was a simple way for me to do it, but either way is great!
I love the outcome
I love your style!! You've created such a stylish, beautiful statement piece of furniture!
Great idea!
Wow love it! You’re so creative and talented
Wow! What a great IKEA hack!!!!
Thank you! 😊
Inspiring. Simplicity is key to sophistication. Love this x
This is awesome! Love the cane fronts with the little black drawer pulls.
LOVE the way this turned out! I’m starting a media room makeover over on my DIY channel soon and this is giving me major inspiration! 😍😍
Beautiful job!
I love this color/texture combo! I feel inspired to reinvent my Ikea furniture
THIS! IS! BEAUTIFUL!
Wow, wow, wow. I'm so impressed.
And even more so that you did this while pregnant. Also: You look gorgeous 🤩
Wow!!! You’re very creative!
Very very very well done!
wow this is so pretty!! great job!
beautiful! Drew @ Lone Fox did one similar
I saw that! I love the raffia idea. Very clever.
