My tip, to fill the nail holes is to mix wood glue with the sawdust from the cutting. It basically makes wood putty. Paint will adhere better since it is the same wood.
Wow! What a transformation! It's lovely Drew! HGTV really needs to give you your very own television series, you deserve a huge spotlight on all you do as well as your personality! All in agreement, say Aye!
"I don't know why the wood tone is just so, so yellow...." Because wood is a natural product and all unfinished or raw wood surfaces oxidize over time, changing color depending on the type of wood. Pine, which this dresser is made from, oxidizes to an orangy yellow tone with time. It is completely natural. So now you know.
Add a finish with uv filter.. it will happen but not as fast.. it is the first lesson my dad told me when I wanted IVAR cabinets in my house.. so 2 I did and 1 i forgot and it is the color as the others..
Wow I honestly think this is the very best ikea hack I’ve ever seen anywhere.. I absolutely love it. I have Hemnes dresser and night stands with up graded hardware. Now I seriously think I want to do this to my three pieces. I also love the hardware you chose, you could not have picked any better. As always thank you for all that you share with us 😘
Lone fox: gotta cover the wood knots because it looks like nipples Also Lone fox: proceeds to pick literal nipple piercing handles for the drawer anyway
1) I'm so glad you went with the oak colour. 2) you are so brave to paint on your hard wood floors like that! Also the drawers with no tape! You must have a steady hand! I could never!
Looks gorgeous! Does anyone else get a bit stressed when all their fav DIYers don't tape things off, don't have a drop cloth, in this case don't even have a paint rolling pan! SO FEARLESS!
My heart stopped when he poured the paint and then set it on the his wood floor. The drips!!! And why when I paint I'm covered - my hands, my clothes, everything!
Drew, I am so blown away by your creativity! I am about to make over a nightstand and will try this on the one shelf. Also, if you don't have a paint tray, line a 9x13 pan with foil and you have a sturdy tray. You can just toss the foil when you are done. You can also fit the pan into a plastic grocery bag and that will work too. Last suggestion: when you have to paint furniture feet; use soup cans to lift them off the floor so you can work without worrying about getting paint on your floor. Thank you for sharing your great mind with us!
If any of you decide to use a miter saw someday REMEMBER to always let go of the trigger before lifting the miter saw away from whatever material you are cutting. You never know if a piece could fly at your face and cause damage. Better safe than sorry 🥰
I know people never talk about safety when using tools or even resin which I had a reaction to and they really are dangerous. I saw a girl on youtube who cut off her thumb
I did a similar project, but I used glue as a type of paint. Any dresser or end table will do, new, used, garage sale, etc.. mix a little water to glue or mod pod, take a hand brush (clean or new) from a dustpan (or buy). Put glue and a touch of water in a painting tray (disposable). Dip your brush into the paint, run your brush down or across (you design), let dry for a 1/2 day to a day. Then paint the color you chose, another paint for contrast or trim if you want, sealer for use in outside, new handles.. AND you have a new piece of furniture without cutting wood, nails, saws.. his looks wonderful and so does mine..
Actually, there’s a whole concept set of this furniture (Land and Sky) - I love the stag buffet ... I also don’t think it’s expensive for what it is either! But, I was right, waaaay out of my price bracket and no idea how you could even come close to a hack for the pieces ..... stunning whoever came up with the concept and made them reality
I'm really impressed how your ideas keep being original and the outcomes high-end week after week after week. This must be hard work, thank you for the keeping us entertained and the quality up!
Awe, it turned out beautiful!!! Here's a super time saving tip... Paint the trim/baseboard/crown etc. first! Then cut/apply/fill and touch up! Whenever I have trim to apply (even pre-primed) I always paint first! Try it! You'll save so much valuable time!
Q: why didn't you just paint the trim before nailing it to the drawer face? I'm no DIYer so I'm asking out of curiosity, like maybe there was a purpose.
I've found an old dresser on a pile of bulk garbage and decided to give it a try. I'd never done anything like this. So I cleaned it, got some primer and black paint, couldn't find any new hardware that I liked, but I found some really cute wardrobe hooks at the thrift store that I'm gonna repurpose as the new handles. It's a sturdy dresser with hardly any damage that's gonna provide me the storage I need, and I sure learnt a lot of lessons from the project. It's far from being perfect, but it's a start, and I can always give it another go. The only expenses were the paint and some wood filler. The handles were €1 and the sandpaper I got for free. One man's trash, another man's treasure. I'd like to thank Lone Fox, Xo,MaCenna, the Sorry Girls and many other DIY channels out here for showing people what's possible with a can of paint, old furniture and a bit of courage.
LUVEEETTT!!!😍 Who would've thought that it's an Ikea dresser?! Drew, I'm obsessed with your channel!!! And you seriously are the MOST ADORABLE DIYer I've ever watched!
I have a TARVA bedside tables and it also became so yellow. I'm actually planning on doing a DIY today and I'm so glad your video is up 😂 such a good timing 👌
I've been thinking about DIYing IKEA Rast dressers with jute material and painting it white and now I know it's a great combination - thank you, your new Tarva dresser looks lovely!
Just FYI wood can contain tannins which are the compounds that makes the wood turn a yellowish color. It’s recommended that you prep the wood before painting it to prevent the tannins from bleeding through the paint you just applied and turning it yellow again in the future.
Yep pine knots are notorious for bleeding through paint. they are like black holes. . You sometimes need to seal and prime over the knots multiple times to stop it from bleeding through.
Thank you, Drew! My Hemnes dresser looks terrible because all the wood knots have bled through the paint over the years. I was going to throw it away. You saved it and will look even more beautiful!
I love this transformation! Just gotta say though, my first thought when I saw the new handles was “nipple ring”, especially after you mentioned the wood knot looking like a nipple 😂
lovely color and perfect detailing done. Raffle cloth is so in fashion !!! thanks to Lone fox for this DIY. And I really liked the fox detailed dresser in the background
I'm obsessed 😍 I've been looking to upcycle my chest of drawers and now I know what I want to do. Also where can I get that AMAZING fox cabinet that I saw in the background I need this in my life 🥰
This is amazing! Quick tip for next time you don’t have a paint tray... put foil in the canvas or whatever surface you decide to use. Heck... use foil in a paint tray too. Helps with cleanup.
Pine naturally yellows over time! If you really want to avoid it, you can tiny your varnish slightly with a blue or green tint to offset some of the natural yellow color of the pine
Oh my gosh I love love luuuurrrrv it. I've got a boring bedside table that's given me a great idea now. I was going to use contact paper but love how you've done that 🤩

GORGEOUS Drew!!! You definitely brought this dresser into a BEAUTIFUL style. Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The hardware is PERFECT❤️ Thank you for sharing this creation❤️😊cat xxx
Wow! Wow! Wow! That is an amazing transformation and even though you paid a little more for the handles, the look it gives is amazing, I want to redo my bedroom and now this gives me some idea and the paint color is just right!

I’m so ready to see Drew on HGTV /Netflix -Putting it out in the universe! 💛 Love this ✅

Ikea makeover looks good, but that fox cabinet in the background 😮😍😍😍
The music was really peaceful in this one! I loved how this one turned out. 💛
No comparison Drew!! What a high end look and I think what knocked it out of the park is that fab hardware❣❣
This looks AMAZINGGGG!!
What is that beyond GORGEOUS, king of cabinets with the fox carving at the front!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍

If you first layer with isolation ground the wood doesn't get yellow
And if your wood pieces yellowed to much you can always sand it down to reveal the original (not oxidised) wood color and protect it properly :)
Seeing the color added, the drawer looked amazing. But then adding the hardware.... AAAAAAMMMMMAAAAZING!!!!!
That fox cabinet behind you thoughhh! ♥
Omg a heart from the Drew 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Did I miss an episode? Need to know more about that cabinet!
Literally searched for this comment! that cabinet is beeeeeauuutttiifffuulll!!
Waiting for info on the fox cabinet 💚
I noticed that too! It's beautiful! Just googled it and found it at Anthropologie

WOW WOW WOW, wow wow wow wow, night and day difference. IT IS GORGEOUS!!!

EXACTLY what I was thinking 😂😂
I came to the comments to see if anyone thought the same 😭
OMG was thinking the same but didn't want to say anything!!! Hahaha

Those three cane furniture DIYs are hands down my absolute favorite pieces of yours
Just genius!!! Handles are so worth it too!
That cabinet behind you (curled up ?dog/fox?) is stunning
The makeover turned out really well too 😊
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that! It's amazing.
I noticed that too! It's beautiful! Just googled it and found it at Anthropologie

Those handles elevate the dresser and pops with the raffia!!
Q: why didn't you just paint the trim before nailing it to the drawer face? I'm no DIYer so I'm asking out of curiosity, like maybe there was a purpose.
I think because he had to fill holes.
@@31sahana True but maybe the smaller edges would have been easier to do beforehand.
@@katefriedrich4774 yes, especially the inner trim edge.
@@31sahana you could still paint them before hand, and fill the holes later and touch up the little spots with paint
Maybe because he wanted to cover the nails? But even then he could do that in touch ups.
Love, love, love, love, LOOOOOOOVE this DIY!!!! It turned out so good! It looks high end!
You gave a humdrum dresser a very classy, high-end look!
