The "We Like It Here" clips are the best-shot and best-edited live-music videos of all time.
I hate the editing. Each shot lasts on average 3 seconds, which really sucks when you don't have an attention deficit disorder. I know most things are edited that way nowadays, I just can't stand it.
Niels I but there's like 50 musicians and only 5 minutes 😂
Amen.
@@owl23452 I'm sort of with you. However, given that there was no way to have one big static camera position that could properly cover every musician in the room, the editing was actually way better than I've seen on many other music acts regardless of genre. I feel like we never once miss any solos being played which is one thing that constantly pisses me off on other live video recordings. They have camera coverage of every musician here and they are amazingly almost never in the shots themselves. The fact that I never feel ripped off when somebody I want to actually see is playing a solo or a run is a testament to how good the editing really is here.
One thing that really bums me out with the streaming age is that multiple camera angle options will never be available again. I have so many DVDs of concerts of my favorite bands and one of the coolest things is when they give you the option to pick which camera feed you want to watch. If you want to watch the drummer the entire song, so be it. It's almost a travesty that we will probably never get options like that again.
I find that the fast cuts work well with the upbeat nature of the music :)
That percussionist works so freaking hard. It looks like his life is flashing before his eyes halfway through the set. Lol I salute you sir; and I'm so sorry for what these bad men make you do. Stay loose.
Cardio! It's a damn workout for anybody on a drumset when the tempo is up there!
But....we don't care because we can almost do whatever we want to do!
this is one of the best comments I've ever seem.
1:42 "I have brought my Giant Drum and found the place to use it!"
Hahaha I just came across your comment and it made my day. You win the Internet today. Long live Snarky 🥁
Nate Werth is a percussive beast!🥁🥁
The most criminally underviewed track on this record.
Yessssssss!
+samcooke343 Agreed, but there is a reason: it's impossible to follow Cory's solo on Lingus.
Paul Fernihough This isn't Lingus...
+samcooke343 Right. This is the track that follows it.
+samcooke343 The whole band is underrated.
Mark Lettieri wildin' . That solo is simply one of the best
That guitar solo was absolutely incredible, so much musicality, melody and his phrasing is phenomenal.
Ryan Walklin The piano solo in "the curtain" and the trumpet solo in "shofukan" are also incredible. This one is still my favorite though!
Theodor Dalseth The trumpet solo in Shofukan is unbelievable! I'll be checking out that piano solo :P
it's worth it ;)
Ryan Walklin I love Corey's solo in Lingus.
Ryan Walklin Dude holy shit no kidding. Incredibly smooth.
With all respect for the work Sput is doing as Snarky Puppy's drummer, nobody can ever come close to what Larnell does on this record.
@NoPlaceLikeGnome Larnell hits grooves with a more solid backbeat than Sput. Sput is incredibly impressive as a player but Larnell just has the bottom end to really beef it up. Startling player.
@NoPlaceLikeGnome This has always blown my mind ever since I first heard about it. I know professional musicians can pull a performance out of their asses on the spot sometimes, but there is a huge difference between doing improv than having to memorize entire charts of music. I honestly have no fucking idea how Larnell could have done this in 3 days unless he had already played some of these pieces with the group before. I know Snarky Puppy is more of a collective of musicians that come and go according to their schedules, but if Larnell had truly never seen or heard any of this music before sitting in like this, it just makes his masterful performance even more masterful.
I too am gabberflasted

Jazz Fusion is probably the only genre where you hear a guitar solo and think "wow, that's a nice change of pace!"
No.
No way.
guitarists werent happy about that one lol
How the hell is everything in this album a masterpiece.
Like jesus fucking christ how good can any one person get at music, let alone a couple dozen of them.
And then there is this crazy bastard Larnell. We're not worthy.
Michael League the bass player, arranger, band leader, writer, etc. puts this all together.
that guitar solo was the embodiment of fusion
I just got a Jamboner
Eijzman especially during the Guitar Solo!! 😂😂
I just laughed loudly reading this; as good as the video
The best part is that this is probably the second or third best song on the album
this comment is both funny and weird
got bone-jammed
Larnell Lewis is a amazing drummer. He knows how to push a band so everything fits just perfect. PREPARATION!!! PRACTICE...
+Gregory T Barrett Hes a teacher at my school!
+TheJohnGway Woah, woah, woah. Hold it right there. What acts of sainthood did you commit to be that lucky?
I went to church for a like 3 years when I was a kid... Maybe god is real.
+TheJohnGway ..that's what i'm thinkin..
+Gregory T Barrett And he learned every song on We Like It Here in 2 days!!! Got called last minute for a sub. What an amazing musician...
I was trying to come up with a random word earlier, and "jambone" just popped into my head. Sounded like a word, but wasn't sure so I googled it and this came up. What an incredibly fortunate set of events
no way man, bro witnessed musical heaven instead
Funniest comment ever. I'm not sure people understand.
Holy balls! That middle guitarist can freaking PLAY! Woooh! Love this band.
Mark Letierri
No doubt this is a beautifully improvised Afro-beat style! this lovely piece has its roots in Nigeria! Well done guys
Yep, Fela vibes all through
@@Klipmode brother you said it straight . these is just fella vibe straight
@@Klipmode The first name that came to my mind when I first heard this about 4 years ago
Aftobeat with some Mali/Niger flavor as well.
A friend told me to watch Lingus, now I'm watching the whole live dvd. On repeat.
Me too
This is so me right now!! The whole dvd on REPEAT!!
What a great guitar solo. First half was funky, jazzy, and technical. Second half was pure soaring rock soul. Love. It.
i just googled jambone because its a thing i like saying and then i came across this
i am not disappointed
Why would you google jambone because it sounds funny?
tbh i just wondered if it meant anything but then i got to this video
Key
Maybe a reference to 'Hambone'?
Literally how I got here too 4 years later
Probably the best and most complete guitar solo I've ever heard. Ridiculous. Plus that Jimi reference at the end just makes it perfect.
3rd stone from the sun. Give it a listen.
Do you know Steve vai?
Damn, Larnell. Those fills are the funkiest and tastiest things I've ever heard coming from a drum set.
The never stop machine of success! Snarky Puppy!
Oh yes...great collective, cool music!!...I hope to see them live in A'dam soon..:-)
There are no weak tracks on this album.
That intro takes me back to Cape Town South Africa.
WOW!! this is African fusion! Afro Jazz!! Thanks GuyZ! U ROCK!!!
I don't check many tour schedules these days.. But when I do... It's for Snarky Puppy!!
Jambone...Monday ya leo tunaenda Afrika. Those guitar licks got the rhumba feel and horns just remind me of Fela Kuti music. Love it
IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? have I just listened to the best band on earth?
Yes. Yes you have
yes
I SWEAR i was thinking the SAME THING.
Correct
The percussion lines were flawlessly arranged.
So much is fantastic about this. Perfectly recorded and mixed. The video gets the intensity across. The music is exciting like going down the rapids you never know which way it's going to bend. The drive to create a unique youthful musical space combined with mature sophistication in technique shows up in the approach to solos.
Obvious rhythmic mastery. An attractive harmonic arrogance, hear, smell these chords.
The production wreaks of intelligence and all through it I get a sense that these musicians respect the frontier. Snarky Puppy...ahh, Besame Smucho.
If I had never heard their music ever in life I would be inclined too after that description.
Jodi Blu Wholeheartedly agree!
this drummer is disgustingly solid.
It's all about da' drummer and the percussionists. (clap-clap-clap-clap-clap) Bravo!
Guitar.. Nice Solo! Nice Mix in general!
.
How the hell did I not come across this jam...one of the most underrated songs period. Larnell Lewis @ 0:23 lol
That look is EVERYTHING. the funk is UNREAL
This has such a central African vibe it's amazing!
Sounds like this
ruclips.net/video/mS5jecyMdHw/видео.html
That was a sneaky Third Stone From the Sun there Mr Guitar Man!! Sneaky Puppy.
Each and every one of em is a master at their craft. Soo tight, so clean and technically perfect. So many delicate layers, seamlessly interwoven. They spiral together.
And, its live.
This my friends, is a treat. Oooh ja.
I'm going to see em when they hit Amsterdam next. More!
cant believe that guitar player managed to get 3rd stone from the sun in there, what a legend!
It cant be overstated how important the bass is to that guitar solo. Listen to it! 3:24
Snarky Puppy = Real music
Head explodes 3:26. Amazing job by Mark Lettieri, as always
guitar solo is epic. centrepiece of the song
This is musicianship at its best.
I can hear elements from all kinds of music in the music of Snarky Puppy, and I mean ALL kinds :)
The solo guitarist is wearing a Van Halen shirt for a reason ;)
Incredibly good. Mark Lettieri has become my favourite guitarist. Wonderful, thrilling stuff.
This drummer. (and percussionists)
ALL the percussionists!
Larnell Lewis!! Dude is a beast!
mexicanstorm pretty sure it´s sean seawright...
benchinho
usually it's ROBERT "Sput" Searight but Larnell Lewis is the one playing on the entire "We like it here" session.
mexicanstorm oh... i see... so sput has no time to absolutely kill it... so they just call larnell and he´s ABSOLUTELY KILLIN´ IT...
Yeah, Afrobeat in the house! Snarky Puppy rocks.
It’s just so wild how well crafted the music from these sessions is. This guitar solo is in the same tier as Corey’s Lingus solo and basically everything Larnell does. That’s not to undersell Michael’s compositions or any of the other performers’ work, but Lettieri put on a guitar clinic in this one.
Giving me a strong West African vibe.
For a second, I thought my RUclips autoplay had directed me to a Fela track I haven't heard before. Incredible
This song is the beautiful aftermath of a high-speed collision between Fela Kuti and Cosmosquad
this is a really beautiful way to respect the great fela anikulakpo kuti, the creator of afro beats which is really the basis of this track... much love all the way from nigeria
The description only lists 1 percussionist, but there's clearly at least 3 that I can see in the video!
They are so good I'm gonna die of happiness
[to any drummers that have recorded in the studio] holy crap he nails that snare pattern @ 3:00 I bet he never says "I'll get this in one take" he just sits downs and goes to work.
unbeliveble guitar solo,fantastic
Am I the only one that hears straight up afro-beat in this??? at least the double time part... even the beginning of Mark's solo sounds like Fela to me! Been banging snarky puppy for a while and this is the first time i have heard some afro-beat so I was pretty happy with that. must be the influence of the guy from Burundi they were working with!
it is there and more . . .
There's a lot of Fela in there and some Rhumba influences...
Yeah that double hit clave all the way through is the essence of Afrobeat
At 4:10, listen for a tiny nod to Hendrix and Third Planet from the Sun. Love how these guys mix it up.
That Guitar Solo is phenomenal!!
Mark's solo... man I love listening to him play. And everyone else here, of course.
So much talent put into one single band! AMAZING!!!
Oh my god, I'm only really coming across this album. I heard this song YEARS back in school, and hearing it again now is blowing my everything apart
Still always cracks me up how the horn players look dead inside, during such an epic moment in musical history.
Larnell Lewis is the ultimate boss on the drums!
If you even have the confidence to audition for a spot in this band, you are instantly one of the best musicians in the universe 😂
Larnell Lewis is a beast.
04:05 third stone from the sun? Amazing!
mos def
I listened to the first time last night on my run. I had to stop and acknowledge what the fuck was happening. This is insane.
Running to this album is the meaning of life.
There’s a lot of 90’s influence in this and I love it.
Mark lettieri putting in WORK
the guitar solo,i'm amazed ,you guys are just amazing
What a beast of a solo
+Jon Best And it gets so emotional despite the funky character of the track... Beautiful!
I love it that the shaker dude is the sweatiest dude among the whole band 3:33
Respect my man!
The guitar parts in this song are what elevates it to a whole nother level, such incredible innovation.
The Lettieri's solo is so, so fricken good, and whit Larnell's drums, wow!! Insanely awesome...
came across this group yesterday; individually all amazing musicians but together even more so! Booked to see in Brixton later this year immediately!
I cannot get enough of Larnell Lewis! Must get off the Larnell YT binge!
Ahhhh these guys make me so happy!!.... Werthy!!
The first half of that solo is one of my favourite parts of the album.
So great band, every song is a masterpiece
what a refreshing concept: high quality. this crew is something else...and something much, much better!
4:07 totally third stone from the sun, by jimi hendrix, loved it
That kit player kills everytime i swear.
You guys are awesome....sounds like African Jazz band
Exactly, I thought the same thing.
The guitarist made this song, his solo is a centerpiece
Michael! yer a natural rhythm SHAMAN!!! wOW BROTHER!!!!
I love the West African influence 🙌🏽
I'm feeling the Afro in this
Visual aspect emphasises the greatness of this music even further
Mike is a WAAY better bassist than he would have you believe 😁
Guitar work is awesome!
There's a ton of old school prog blood in this track! So good! I love it!
If larnell wouldn't listen that well and play so tight with a deep pocket, this would fall apart quickly. Simply amazing.
Wow how does this have less than a million views. I can hear elements of Fela's afrobeat in this. Amazing!
The mic technique on this video is amazing, show casing the excellent musicians!
Love this band! And the drummer, Wow!
LARNELL!!!! Killing it, Sir!
Snarky Puppy!! Great, Big ups to Larnell on drums.
This is such an amazing song, this sounds like a mixture of African highlife/ (Ska/Calypso) and Western Jazz, such an incredible sounding song, took me a few listens to digest the whole thing haha.
Shout out to the videographers,to synch all of this with great angles. awesome job.
Compressed so much the music sounds like one dimensional paint splater...whatever dynamics was in this performance got squeezed into pulp
wow every song is great - thats it, i'm buying
This should have the highest views on RUclips.
I´m very happy I know this band exists
Classic Snarky change around :45. Great stuff with African feel on the groove.
Larnell Lewis is arguably the most talented drummer to ever walk the face of this earth
