These paints, like many other Artist Grade single pigment paints, occasionally separate. I always shake Daniel Smith paints before I open them (particularly the Primatek line -I’m collecting all of those) because I’ve found that the gum Arabic occasionally separates. Hope you enjoy and are able to collect all 50. My collection is growing thanks to birthday and Christmas gifts! I look forward to watching the complete 50 pigment video!
Yeahhh! Usually, ive noticed that the granulating colors and most cadmiums and cobalts separate in binder no matter the brand is.. so one needs to really either shake the tubes or stir it with a needle. 😊 Yeah, i cannt wait to reviee the 50 colors too! 😊
ever thought of adding ox gall or gum arabic to them for extra movement?

Watercolors by Allan Jay Quesada especially these paints. A little goes a loong way. I have the 24 pure pigment set + 2 (black & white) they are a very strong and beautiful set. I too plan on getting all of the colors. 😂

As an architecture student with a passion for watercolors, ito yung set na talagang pinag-ipunan ko last year and this set is truly one of the best for anyone who wants to invest in artist grade paints! Medyo konti nga lang yung earth tones pero pwedeng pwede naman magmix since single pigment lahat. Sulit na sulit talaga yung pera kung bibilin online. More power to your channel sir😄
yeah I agree. sulit na tlaga and sobrang dami nito. graduate at licensed ka na, hindi mo ito ubos. hehe. if ever maisipan mo, kunin mo nalang po yung isa sa mga sets ko. nilagay ko na po siya sa shopee.
I ordered their set of 36 colors. It does say to shake the tube before opening. I think it may make a difference in the colors you had a slight problem with in your swatching. Thank you for an indepth review. I am excited to receive mine and get to work. For the palette they have, a piece of fine sanding paper rubbed gently across the bullet proof glass takes care of the beading. I hope this helps others.
Yeah, binder separation seems to be a normal thing to some pigments. I shake them in my Ds tubes, but for review, i let them fresh for rawness. 😉 Thanks for sharing your tip in thr palette. I don't have them, but im sure it's gonna help others. 🙏

If you notice the brushes he uses most doing color swatches Is be willing to bet that those are his favorites! Also, he always uses Arches paper for swatches too. I’d say that’s a safe bet as well!

I can highly recommend the Monopigment sets from Rosa Gallery. I have their 12 full pan and 28 full pan Monopigment set. The smaller one is awesome for traveling. Their super affordable artist grade paints, and you can buy pans and tubes individually and even pricey pigments cost the same as cheaper ones. At least in Germany it's by far the most affordable artist grade paints, use them since many years and I really do love them.
I agree love their sets to lay down wash. They all are super vibrant and strong colors. the only thing lacking is some of the browns aren't as strong as I like. Love their paints all around.
Yayyy. Thanks for sharing your testimonial for the Rosa paints. 🙏 I've recently just bought the Modern set with 21 colors and added 3 more. I've also bought 24 tubes. Though I have not reviewed and tried them yet, testimonies such as yours make me more excited. Now, I'm tempted to get the mono pigmented set. Hahaha. And it's true. It's amazing how the cobalts and cadmiums and other pricey pigments are of equal price as the cheaper colors. 🙏

I read that there are three different sets of colors for three different regions of the world. Not sure why that is, but that might explain differences between the different sets. Your swatch videos are very relaxing, perfect before bed!

Wow Allan! Just revisited Mind of Watercolour, In liquid colour and a few other utube videos. Thank you for showing us the new pigments in this set...much nicer, much more useful. I bought this and a studio palette too, as I love the cobalt turquoise, and it becomes very affordable with this set. Here in Australia, 125 AUD dollars with free shipping, makes it $4.80 per tube AUD which is really cheap!
The mijello studio palette with 55 wells is for colour mixing with dots in each well (Mind of Watercolour) to make convenience colours at your finger tips.
I use a glue stick to prepare all metal and plastic palettes, and it works really well to prevent staining, beading and abrasive issues. Just put it on and wipe with a clean wet tissue.
This set has such pretty colours, and loved your mix top right corner with viridian and magenta to make a neutral tint, wow what a range in that little square....I can see a painting with just these two colours. I wasn't able to buy single pigment tubes for less than 40 dollars, so yes I bought the set, as it comes with a lot of expensive pigments.
hi Eliza! Thank you for all the palette tips. Teal/Cobalt Turquoise is my favorite color and I cant stand a huget set without it so the inclusion of it here is a treat. and yes cobalts are expensive so its really a plus. the neutral tint combo was from MGraham and since then, im using my pthalo greens to make deep grays because i dont use pthalos that much, hehe.
I'm based in Australia as well and recently paid $25 for a 5ml tube of cobalt green turquoise from Schminke, so even paying $150 for the pure pigments set on Amazon is still such a good deal!
Thank you for reviewing the set, Allan! I have been using the older version of the pure pigment set for 3 years now. Although I use other brands as well, I still love Mission Gold for their intensity. I think its an excellent choice for someone who is just starting out with professional range of paints. The set makes its easy to discover the properties of single pigments and play with color mixing. Keep up the good work :)
Oh, thank you too. I also love mission gold, especially the Pure Pigment set. This is one of my most recommended sets because it encourages color mixing and from mixing colors, we really learn alot. Plus this set is cheap, for its quantity and quality/ :)
Hi. 1st off, the 'other' sets aren't older as compared to the pure pignent set. As thoroughly discussed in my review, the pure pigment set is set formed from the same line only that this set is made out of single pigments. So that is the main difference. If you are particular to them being single Pigment, then that should matter.. the 'other' sets with premixed colors aren't bad and are intended friendlier to beginners and to those who are a bit new or lazier when it comes to color mixing. The pure pigment set is for artist who want to make their own mixes. Also, what makes the pure Pigment set bit kore expensive is that there are real cobalt and cadmium colors and less earth colors.
Thanks for this video. I have jad several professional grade paints have a bit of binder separation. Not anything crazy but just a little. I just stir w a toothpick inside the tube or squeeze some out and mix with a toothpick. I actually just picked this set up and already love it. I too had a bit of binder separation but not bad at all. I noticed at least with my set that the more natural colors were a bit thicker even when mixed inside and outside the tube but I have saw another video that the person had noticed the same thing. Another thing that kind of bothers me is how they name the colors differently than what the most commonly used name for the pigment is. I'm not sure why they do this but I know that when you buy paints you should always look a the pigment(s) in the paint and not so much the name but the name can help too. Have a great day
Hi Danielle. Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. I definitely agree about everything. The binder separation in this set is very tolerable as compared to other brands. I mix them to using a pin. Color names are really different specially to Asian brands. Sometimes it's funny especially in Chinese brands. But yeah, definitely one should check the pigment codes to meet expectations as names could be confusing.

The Mission White Class is the hybrid gouache line. I like Mission Gold but I had issues with the Bamboo Green.
They don't flow like crazy but it's still fun to paint with them. 😊
Some art supply online-shops offer the Mission Gold open-stock which is really good in my opinion.

Maybe the bamboo green that went to you was an old stock? or is it really like that? I need to check mine.
@@AllanJayQuesada Maybe I got a tube that had issues with the binder. I wouldn't say it's a bad brand. But getting a tube that is kind of faulty can happen to everyone I guess.

Such stunning colors talaga~ this is the set i plan to buy once i get my first job income haha as a present to myself. I think they (thefrugalcrafter and The Liquid Color) had different colors in their sets because Mijello sells i think 3 different color variation sets. One is a Western set, and theres an Asian set which is what you have in the video. From what i remember, only the Asian set has the Cobalt Turqoise color. Not sure what the third variation was called tho. Thank you again for the wonderful review as always sir :)
Hi. :) Yeah I know that variations thing. But the variation is in the mixed color set, not in the pure pigment set. for the Pure pigments set, they only have one. The reason why frugal crafter, In Liquid COlor and the MInd, had different set was that the set they reviewed was the older Pure Pigment set. if youd see, their reviews were taken around 3 years ago.. I think nag comment ata isa sa knila rito. Im not sure. but yeah, this is now the set they sell even in US. The color selection is improved now. :)

I love my 36 customized White Nights, BUT this pure pigment set is very temptiiiiiing 😊😁😊 I hope there will be a follow up video of its lightfastness, maybe after a month, 6mos up to a year of sun exposure. 😊😍😊

I love mission gold pure pigment, I been using this for almost two years. I like the way you do swatches and sample painting, please review some inexpensive watercolor papers near the quality of Arches. Thank you.

So far the only papers I have tested that are near as good as arches...are almost as expensive...so if anyone finds a paper close...let us know..,if only we could find one for half the price.....wouldnt that be great!....i keep these mission paints in a 1/4 pan palette in my travel bag...they rewet easily, don't " travel" across the paper when it in the field-- that is important...there are enough variables out there. So far this is one of the best I have seen you review. Have fun!.

this set is so versatile. my fav colors in this set are Cobalt Turquoise and Red-Brown, they mix beautifully to my liking. if i ever run out any of the cobalt colors i might as well buy a new set because price of 4 tube of cobalt pigments = price of this beautiful set.
i noticed that older Mijello W590 Cobalt Turquoise consisting of PB28, PY3, & PW6. they reformulate it i guess by using only PB28 for the newer batch.

That formula is from their old website. i hope they close that site to avoid confusion. Yung iba tuloy, akla nila, fake ito, kasi iba yung cobalt formula. they dont know, much better ang formula nito, to be fake hehe

This is so satisfying!!! I saw you paint last year during a LakWAD event by UAPSA and I was really amazed on how good you are! I just found out right now that you have a youtube channel while checking out vids of Mijello 😭😭😭 Anyway, I've been eyeing on Mijello watercolor since 2016 but I was just a beginner back then that's why I started with student grade watercolors instead. Now I was just thinking maybe I deserve an upgrade hahahaha thank you for this! I was really confused on what Mijello set to buy. It's a good thing I saw this vid and I got to see one of my fave watercolor artist again in this platform! 💗

Welcome to my channel po. hehe :) ANd thank you for the kind words.. it pays all the effort i put in this channel. honestly, maganda tlaga itong set na ito and lalabas na 150 lang siya per tube.. sobrang mura as compared sa ibang artist grade paints na inaabot ng 1,200 ang isang tube.. yes, thats in Daniel Smith. actually, may dalawang kulay rin from Mijello ang 1,200. yung cobalt yelllow yung isa. i got a tube of it kasi kinocompleto ko itong pure pigments nila.. anyway, if you happen to be interested, I am selling in shopee 3 of my 5 sets.. :)

Hmmm. I want to.. just cant find the timing yet. But to mention some, the best i have tried and been using till now are the Kolinsky brushes of Escoda, Raphael, DaVinci and Isabey. 😉

Actually, hindi parin ako satisfied sa pagkaka mix ko ng skintone jan. Haha. Dapat medyo opaque yung yellow and mas purple ung pv19. Dapat ung isang pv19. Experiement niyo nalang din po. Basically, it's primary colors parin. ☺️ I try niyo na po ito. Hehehe. Pag sets, kahit alin sa dalawang seller sa shopee, ok. Pag halfpans, sakin nalang. Hehe

From the packaging to the swatching, ang gaganda ng mga paints!😍 Either Mijello or White Knights po ung pinagiipunan ko po for sometime in the future (both are my dream wc atm). Personally po, ano po ung prefer nyo between these paints? So far po kase fc tubes and prang ung magaganda kong wc (the rest are on the very cheap side) and I would like to buy a set good for the long run (para makatipid po sa budget and space kase student palang po ako). For an idea po, I like to paint architecture and people.

I know that it's an old video. But still hope you will see the comment. Thank you, firstly, for the reviews that you do! Have you tried Maimeri Blu watercolors? The whole range is single pigments. I have tried just a few of their half pans. And the colors blew my mind. Just excellent. They are professional grade, so the cost is not low. Would like to know your opinion on them and how they compare to the most famous artist grade colors like W&N, da Vinci, Schmincke, Sennelier, Daniel Smith, etc.
Hi!!! sorry for my late reply, but to answer you, YES! I have MaimeriBlu , the old version, the venezia and the reformulated Superior line. and i super love maimeri.. the texture is great and it is not intimidating at all. it reminds me of Schmincke actually. :)

@@AllanJayQuesada i totally am! They are SO pigmented and lay down so smoothly, the cobalts all granulated beautiful as well as the ultramarine of course and the mixes are so clean and vibrant. I may really like these more than Daniel Smith actually but only time will tell

Thank you for this review. I just got my set for great price (24 +2). for 71 dollars! That's just under 3 dollars a tube (15ml tubes!). I swatched them while watching your review! Just a Note for anyone wanting to buy them. One online art store is selling them for way more (over 100 dollars) For me it was cheaper to buy the 24 +2 set than the 36 set! interesting. I love these paints! I also love the music in your video. If you can share the name/artist I would appreciate it. I like how you are very thorough with the review.
Thank you for the good words. 🙏 can you point in which minute the music was? I just randomly downloaded these music from the audio library. I think the 36 colors are more expensive because of the pigments thatbare included in it. It has more cobalts and Quinacridones which are more expensive. 😊

Hi Allan, thank you for this review, you're always so accurate and insightful and I love watching your videos. I wish I could get this set at a cheaper price from shopee but I live in Italy and I haven't understood well if international purchases are possible and then probably the customs fees would be a huge problem too. Still your review is the best I have seen for this set. As for other single pigments sets do you know about Maimeri blu watercolors? This is an extra fine Italian brand that has completely reformulated its line and now they only make single pigments paints so their sets are single pigments too. I SUPER love Maimeri Blu! I have 11 tubes that are all single Pigments and 14 halfpans. I bought the pans last year while the tubes only this April at Jacksons. That time, they still have Sap Green which was made out of pv49 and pg36. So i didnt remember Maimeri as an all single Pigment brand.. but i remember reading that somewhere. Now, checking again jacksons and their website, its amazing to see that their line is new. Now all single pigments and that is sooo cool. I however still feels fortunate to have saved one of their last convenience color, Sap Green. This makes me excited about Maimeri. I love their texture and theyre easy to use, not so overwhelming. Upon checking Jacksons, they have some Mijello sets, but not pure pigment. But, they also sell single tubes that is i think a better option. Thank you for reminding me about Maimeri's reformulation. ☺️🙏🏻🎨

The old blue box set is compatible with the studio palette to make 55 colours from the set and the new gold box set cant without buying the colour the comes in the blue set but the gold set dont have. Mission Gold isn't really cheap as the series G and H cost more than some other brands with the same colour.
Oh thanks for sharing ghe info abt the boxes.. i agree about the highers series. I got an H, one of which is the cobalt yellow and it's 1,269.75php super far from their A's that's only 284php. The H is even more expensive than Daniel Smith's Lapiz Lazuli, Garnet and Amethyst which are semi precious stones. The Cobalt Yellow of Mijello is just a PY40 , or Aureolin of DS that's only around 800-900..

Did some google-ing around on the Mijello Mission White Class (as i had assumed that they may be student grade), surprisingly they're some sort of hybrid designer gouache due to the pigment shifts and how they act more watercolor-like when watered down, though can't really compare them against my small palette of Daler Rowney Designers gouache as of yet (not until the next paycheck, at least)

oh, hola, Carmen. Thank you your appreciation. Sorry for my late reply, i got hundreds of comments to reply to. Both Holbein and Mijello are great paints.. But the Pure pigment Set is really very much reasonably priced with all the good pigments included.. i think there are more single pigments at Mijello that are worth Keeping. Im voting for the Pure pigment set. :)

Do you think it's better for a beginner to save and splurge on a very good but pricey watercolor set or buy something affordable and cheap since their art isn't good yet
This is honestly a debate till now in artpages, but for me, the answer really is depending on the user and his/her personal assessment and priorities. If budget is never an issue, by all means id go for the best materials. Artist grade paints usually do not weaken and dry in years. Most vintage artist grade paints are still actually useable, so i think, they're good investment too. Buying cheaper and more affordable materials is also a wise choice if one is on a budget. But one also has to see to it that his money atleast matches the quality he is getting. Some cheap brands really dont work at all and would actually discourage a beginner for pursuing the medium.. say some very chalky and pale sets.. ive seen alot of these here in PH. Hehe

i also ordered a white nights set months ago, the one with the lavender tin w/21 full pans (also all single pigments). it never came & she kept saying that the post in russia was messing up, finally i asked for a refund which i just got and what shows up just yesterday! lol hang in there i hope that your's gets to you soon!

@@djhadaverde glad that you got your's too! which set did you get? i'm not sure i will work much with this set as out of 21 pans 6 are yellow, seems a bit extreme to me but i have most of their colors anyway so i can fill it with a nice combo i can use (i just wanted the pallet plus a few of these colors anyway). it really wouldn't be so bad but there are not really any earth colors in the set & most of the yellows appear the same - explains why until recently i couldn't find any good yellows, love the newer indian yellow py150 & the irgazin yellow py129.

Lukas 1862 are advertised as artist .....that said one of my favorites is m.graham...it is what is on my studio palette right now. And am playing with maimeriblu and schminke super granulating..
Yes, theyre ad a artist grade and the ly have an academy line too. Got MGraham, Maimeri and Schmincke too. My favorite so far among the 3 is MGraham cause it's the one ive used longer. I love so much, ive collected all 70 colors. Haha. But im really curious about the Schmincke granulating sets. 🥰
@@AllanJayQuesada so far I have only gotten the tundra and forest of the super granulating. Not sure about how much use I would get from others. Depends on how these eventually work into my palette. I do landscapes, city scrapes, floral and wildlife...mostly birds. There are a few of the m graham I haven't bought because they are mixes that as often as i use I can do myself and get something more organic. My first was Windsor Newton ( 60 years ago) it is still the only locally available watercolor in my area. It is my least favorite paint., is better straight from tube than if allowed to dry...but that's not the way I work anymore. I dont have enough energy to work for long periods and when i am done...i am done for the day. Sohaappy painting...will be watching....thank you.
@@AllanJayQuesada bought the pure pigment set when first came out. If i want a paint that " stays put" I get them out. But although they are lovely paints they seem to lack in the flow department. That's what i try to achieve with watercolor as i have shifted back to watercolor from oils. I am looking for that movement.

@@kklyve if you want smooth paints, i think youll love Shmincke. Schmincke is i believe the only brand that has an ultramarine that is not granulating. The color name is Ultramarine Finest. Holbein, being Asian paints are not very granulating as compared to American paints.

White class is actually a hybrid of gouache and watercolor and silver class is the student grade watercolor.
Thank you for giving me that information, Ashley. It makes sense why those are named "white" sicne Gouache are associated to opacity. And silver as student grade as silver is always 2nd to Gold. 🙏🎨

Watercolors by Allan Jay Quesada keep making good videos. In review videos i realised that people just do review without actually suggesting how the colours can be used together. I feel it is important and valuable for those who are thinking of buying products and normally those who watch are those who are just beginning to explore. I have been going back and forth about buying this set but I doubt my reason for getting it because i am afraid i won't be able to use them to their fullest potential due to lack of knowledge. This set can be overwhelming because of it's size and it requires some mixing. But incase you finally decide to get it, dont worry because artist grade paints really last specially this MG, sure wont dry inside the tubes. I thought you were Filipino too. I just bought this set after watching your review and I am loving them! They are so pigmented! However, I find that most of the colours granulate a lot and I am having a hard time getting a good flat wash. Any suggestions po please?
the colors that granulate here are the cobalts and the ultramarine.. theyre naturally granulating in almost all brands so im afraid, it cant be totally helped. but maybe, you can try to add bit of white to these colors to manage the texture. the consequence is that colors will turn opaque.
I find that the type of water you use can affect granulation. I have hard water where I live and it causes even non granulating colors to granulate sometimes, so maybe try using bottled water or a filter! I’m going to get a filter anyway.

I pour these sets now for my online store. For the Philippine setting which is humid, they stay moist in halfpans. But not moist enough to spill after letting it set and dry for a week. In less humid countries, this should not be an issue. Oh, but in the 34 colors set, the Cobalt Cerulean Blue and the Yellow Ochre No.2 both dry quite ahead of the others. They crack but they dont powderise so still fine.

Yeah. Actually i was also surprised cobalt yellow (PY40) was 1.2k ba naman. Kasing mahal na ng Lapiz Lazuli of Daniel Smith which is a semi precious stone na. pY40 of Daniel Smith (Aureolin) is only 789php. lol
luh, di pala ako nakasagot dito. natabunan na. haha. anyways, oo, sobrang mahal ng PY40 nila. angweird. siguro, nahirapan silang minahin or durugin yang pigment na yan sa Korea. hehe. mura ung version na yan sa DS kahit sa ibang brand pa.. and thing is, kaya mahal eh, imported na rin kasi rito.. imagine yung pure pigment set sa NBS at Artbar, halos doble ng price.. nasa 7k. so malamang itong single tubes, pag sa Korea, almost half the price din.. Tara na sa Korea sir. hehe
Has anyone tried adding oxgall to their wash water with the mijello watercolors? As I understand, they do not contain oxgall. I'm curious to see how mijello performs with addition of oxgall to wash water. Thanks to anyone that has info.

Did you watch the brand comparison portion..? At the time i was making this video, it was clear to me that i prefer the Mijello especially the pure pigment set. But now that Ive explored Holbein as well, ive seen more its goodness. Now, i think theyre on par. Using straight from tube, i might choose Mijello. But if j had to dry in pans, id go with Holbein.
