So in this video, I’m going to talk about how I got it, what do I think of it, and as a bonus, I’m going to share the painting process of this painting using only the Mission Gold paint.

Even though Mijello sent me the paint to test and review, this is my honest opinion about the paint. I can honestly recommend them for people who love vibrant colors (especially if you do floral painting).

I purchased a set. It did say to shaked the tube before opening. I saw reviews from some that may have had a much better experience if they had done this. Thank you for helping me to make the decision to purchase these over a major competitor.

I’m a new watercolorist. I love the mission gold paints. I believe the set you received were a “pure” set. Made with one pigment. I’m not a new painter. I began with oils. I think the Mission Gold, because of the intense colors, makes me very happy. The muted flat colors of some of the brands don’t make me as happy. I’m just too use to the intense oil color paints. The price point in these sets were much easier to afford compared to some brands. I do add ox gall to the water to help them move a bit more. 😊Still learning, as it still can seem so backwards to me. Wow, great to get that many single pigment colors! Didn't know they had a dot chart. Mission Gold has Permanent Yellow Deep PY65 which is the same pigment as Hansa Yellow Deep in most brands (except maybe M Graham which is PY97). Despite their large line, Mission Gold is lacking in yellows, only the Permanent Yellow Light is a mid-tone yellow single pigment. I've only have a couple of their colors since their tubes are pretty expensive in the US, but I like the colors I have. Like a lot of colors made in Japan or Korea, they don't move much when wet-in-wet.

everart okelli Movement is easily solved by using ox gall in your water. They didn’t want to use ox gall.

Hi 👋🏻 Eric! I've been using mission gold 36 colors for three years and I really like the texture, the creaminess and the final result. I bought another case with 24 different colors than I already had and again I loved it. I also bought loose tubes of the colors I use mostly. I also use M. Graham and comparing, both have the same characteristics. A hug, from Brazil 🇧🇷

I recently ordered Mission Gold as my move up from student grade paints and I love them! The vibrant colors are amazing! They are different from other paints and I’m watching a lot of videos to pick up tips. But overall, I think they are fantastic and would also highly recommend them. I really enjoyed the painting you demonstrated. What a lovely subject, and her kimono is a perfect example of how beautiful and bold the Mission Gold paints stand out from other watercolors. I love the bright ones, not necessarily too much of the washed-out pastels. Some reasons why I love these so much!

An absolutely beautiful painting Eric, the colours are so vibrant , and ideally suited to this subject . I can appreciate they may prove too vibrant for some situations , such as flesh tones , but you handled them very well , even in this area . Well done !
These are stunning! They look so pure they remind me of inks. I have about seven and even in this small number, they glow compared to other brands, seem to have more energy to them. Thank you for sharing this, I need a bigger wishlist!

Excellent review and your painting is gorgeous! I have Mission Gold paints, and love them. They do have some distinct differences from other brands but, as you said, each brand has its own qualities, and it's a matter of getting to know them. I enjoy Mission Gold's beautiful colors so much, and I love it that their entire line is non-toxic. This is important to me. Thank you for your wonderful video and have a blessed day!

I have never tried that brand. I painted this one along with you and used Schmincke 12 pan set. I like my results-it is somewhat similar to your work but you are far better than I, thank you!!!
love everything about this. The photo, drawing stage and painting are so stunning. I use Mission Gold pure pigment set when i need saturation and clean color. The paint consistency is ideal for drying in a palette since they re not too soft or runny, but not dry hard either. Never had pigment separation and other consistency issues. It would be nice if they added more granulating pigments to their range :)

This painting turned out beautifully. I thought the first version was nice but I think my opinion was coloured by the beauty of the subject. This one is absolutely lovely. As always, I enjoy the explanation of how you are achieving the result you're looking for. They look like very nice paints!
they are very beautiful paint =) just the matter of getting used to it! Again I'll probably mix match both brand. For my day to day paint :)
I tired only Mission gold dot cards but just few days ago I ordered pure pigment set of 24+2, I love vibrant colors and I think I'll enjoy this set.
Mission Gold is my favorite - I love the high pigment/bright colors I get from them. I have tried several other brands including DS (which I use as well) but I tend toward bright subjects so MG is my go to. I loved your painting demo! Thanks :)

I’ve purchased this same set, but still haven’t used them in a painting. Maybe as I know they will perform differently and I haven’t felt ready to spend time getting to understand them yet. I bought a set of mission gold an I totally agree with your assessment. I also have palettes of Holbein, .M Graham, Daniel Smith and Winsor Newton. Mission Gold are by far the most vibrant. They are lovely though. I just need to become more adept at mixing.
Mission water colours are very intense and vibrant , your teaching is exillent
I'm new to painting and all art, so asking Why I paint is a way to help define what I like/love and need from doing it. I'll be thinking of this a lot. thank you Eric.
I love my MG paints. They retain almost all their color as they dry. And they excel at reds and yellows, as you said. I also have Qor paints that I love. They also retain their color as they dry but spread much more across the paper. So I will use those when I want interesting "swooshy" effects. I also love the MG pan set palette. The pans are very generous and the size of the palette is just right for painting anywhere. I also like that neither MG nor Qor use ox gall. And both re-wet very easily. Thank you for the review. The main complaint I've heard about Mission Gold is that they don't flow enough, I actually feel like it's a good attribute of the paint because I like having the extra control. I have a hand picked 48 DS pallete that has all of my favorite colors, but I prefer MG as my main palette because the paints are so vibrant and obedient ❤.
sound great =) yes I don't think there's good or bad property for paints. As long as you know how to use them well. =) it's cool that you find what suits your needs!

Eric, excellent video, informative, well done, I really likes the fact that you actually used them to make a painting,and gave an honest opinion of there product. Wuld I buy there paints? yes, but I favor Grumbecker, and Winser Newton. Cost, could be an issue!if there very expensive.

I have used this paint and really like it. But you sure have to give the company high marks since they were so generous sending them so many "goodies."
Love your painting and review of the paints, Eric! I've heard many times and can attest to it too (I bought a small 36 colors set that came with the palette) - MG paints are very saturated and vibrant. Florists and botanists adore them! Whimsical sketchers love them too. Not so much landscape painters. But you made a right decision - some of their colors can replace a few DS in our collections!

I really like them but I guess they are better to keep as a studio palette, because they never dry down completely. They also offer some pastels and a very small selection of pearl colors. It's very different than with Schmincke Horadam for example. But for some people.. the flow will be an issue. In that case a flowing agent will help.

i have only ever used mijello colors with some selective colors from other brands. The reason is simple, these tubes lasts forever. they are so pigmented that a little bit of color goes a long way

I found that same colors name in different brands does look different,I guess mijello will be good for floral paintings ,I have watercolor paints from 9brands but I’ve never tried Mijello before.
sometimes it's a frustration, and sometimes it's a pleasant surprise =) It's definitely very interesting
I just bought a set of 24 mission gold. I tried a landscape painting. I had a harder time picking up paint for clouds than with my cheap starter paints. I assume it's because it's highly pigmented and settles into the paper faster. There's definitely a learning curve. I didn't like the wet on wet as much. But I am a real new painter. Maybe someone can tell what I did wrong.
Hi, hansa Yellow deep is permanent yellow deep. Look at the pigments.

I have the same set, in my palette only two of them have tiny cracks on the surface but honestly the dried pant looks kinda “moist” just like the other artist quality watercolors (Daniel Smith, Sennelier...) so it doesn’t fall off the pan and it’s extremely easy to rewet🤩

yes =) I always encourage my students to get familiar with their palette first and expand slowly. Don't get too obsess with the material ;)

Mission Gold 34 Colors are amazing $195. To buy 34 Daniel Smith Colors in Australia = $748 + Postage = Art Shop in Canberra, ACT, Australia. No can surely can tell me that Daniel Smith is worth $553 extra.

Hi. Your description of MG sounds so similar to my experience with schmincke horadam. Have you ever tried schmincke? How is MG characteristics compared to those of schmincke? Btw I need a little advice about brushes. If I use sable brush to re-wet and grab pigment from half pan paint, will it harm the tip of the brush? Thank you
Joy Bean I haven’t tried schmincke. So before I start painting, I would spray some water at the dry pan to revive to revive it a bit. I haven’t notice damage to the brush. But if you are worry, use a bigger brush or something else to grab and mix color, then use your sable to pick up your premixed color
Ya I usually spray or drop some water to them, but still.. every time I swirl those fur I be like "oof.. sorry sable" haha. Glad if there's no damage tho..
Like you, I m also a fan of neutral grayish tone. It was challenging at first to mix the vibrant cartoonish pigments of schmincke to make natural colors but eventually the result is mind-blowing and satisfying. I wonder if MG behave the same.
What about DS? I only have raw and burnt umber DS, haven't tried their primary colors yet.
Oh, what is lightfastness?...
Basically how much resistance the paint has against fading when exposed to UV ray (aka sunlight)

I usually don't worry about it too much because after I have done with my painting I store them in the drawer. And if I would display them I put them behind anti-UV acrylic.
I tried Mission Gold (MG) but I have to admit I was so not used to it. I like watercolor pouring and using three colors (a family of yellow, blue and red) and it turned muddy on me. I went back to Daniel Smith and got the results I was used to. Also, I'm a beginner and because of my experience with MG, I went and did a study on pigments. I wanted to know why the results were all over the place. I should have done that first! Mission Gold's combination of pigments for some colors are much different and that's why they are so vibrant and beautiful. I am unsure of the binders they use however. I know at my level that I am unable to mix Mission Gold as I can with DS. Following along with tutorials with specific MG colors was a disaster for me. I'm just not experienced enough to appreciate the differences. I will stick to DS until I know what the blazes I'm doing! Thank you for your review and congratulations on the beautiful set you received from Mission Gold. Their packaging is lovely and the presentation provided a great experience for me. They are beautiful paints but not for beginners like me. I set MG aside until the day I can treat them with proper respect.
Thank you for your sharing! I understand how that feel. I wasn't used to it at all. And I do suggest you stick with what works, this is why you rarely see my channel with paint and brush review. It is so personal and everyone has a different touch on it, so get familiar with what you have, and slowly expand your tool. =)
