A note from the video. Someone asked me why do I dip my brushes on a towel before I take it to the palette. I will do a separate video on it.
The point is to get the excess moisture out. When you clean your brushes in the water bucket, it soaks up a lot of waters. If you go straight for paint, the water on the brush will dilute it too much especially if you are getting your pre-mixed colors. By going over on the towel, it will take out some of the water on the brush so it will be easier to maintain the intensity of your mixture.

Thank you for the brush stroke lesson. Too many instructors seem to ignore this very important technique. We are usually shown what supplies to get but not always taught how to use them. This seems especially true of brushes.

I love the format of your teaching videos sooo much I love how you get to the point and point out things that after hearing them make me feel the "of course" moment like i never though about it even though it is so obvious! And then you show the Theorie in practice. I love it. Thank you so much. I learn a lot from you!

Amazing!!! I love the brushstrokes in the first part, which can help me a lottt in the future. Also I followed the later part to do the painting. Eric 's instruction is amazing when you talked about you feeling. Like "I feel a little plain, so I add more warm color". I totally did as you taught. Turns out to be A great real painting! I appreciate it. Hope we can comment with pic then I can show the result with you.

I appreciate you and your work very much Eric. I have only been watercoloring for about a month and watch as much as I can so as to learn of course. The first one of your videos was on cauliflower edges and how to avoid them. You were painting a picture from Pearl Harbor. Than one video alone taught me so much about wet on wet etc. I enjoy all your videos and your easy on the ears.🙂 . I know my future works will get better as I learn more and more from you.
PS Last night I needed to create a greeting card , I had used some metallic paint in a couple of small areas and when I picked up to look at my work in the tilted position I was able to see so many areas that were distorted to me when lying flat. I want to learn to paint with my work at a tilt like you do. How high is your pallet up in the top? Also I notice that you use a large bucket to hold your water. I like this because I finally figured out that during the process of your work much of the pigments settle to the bottom leaving clean water on top. Is that a correct evaluation?😃 I used to paint a lot of sceneries with churches , waterfalls, rivers and bridges in acrylic paints on large flat rocks that I found in Oregon, Ca. Drawing is my weakness. I can paint much better than I draw. I need to learn how to sketch out my paintings first, do you have a suggestion for a book that will help me improve those skills . Blessings to you and thank you so much again for your wisdom !

Eric, very nice work. I like the looseness of your composition, doesn't have that photograph look. I'm fond of the "mop" brush, big and little, and flats...but very much like the "fan" brush. It gives me nice palm fromes, weeds, etc.....lots of little lines, and very fast...as you recommend.

    SUMMARY:
    - brushstrokes are how you communicate your final vision
    FACTORS:
    - wetness of brush (longer brushtrokes: more moisture. too wet: dries too light/drips down page)
    - pressure (the harder you press your brush, the larger the mark; the lighter, the thinner the mark)
    - speed (higher speed: more dynamics, more texture)
    - use as little brushstrokes as possible
    PAINTING:
    - don't dab your brush continuously. instead, drag your brush across consistently at once
    - use different parts of the brush (whole brush, tip only, side of brush)
    - use quick, side brushstrokes for ripples in ocean
    - use dry, side brushstrokes for vegetation
    - hold the back of the brush for looser painting
    - hold closer to tip of brush for details and more control
