    Of course DS would win a granulation competition when you compare French Ultramarine to Mission Gold's Peacock Blue. One is made of a highly granulating pigment, and the most granulating version of it too, the other is a blend of two Phthalo pigments that famously are high chroma, staining and do not granulate at all and are designed that way.

    Both. I couldn’t live without either. I have a set of the regular Mijello Mission gold class that I got for cheap and use for plein air and really regularly and I loooove them! But the pure pigment set is something special and I save her for special occasions. Gorgeous vibrant colors and lovely consistency.
    I prefer semi moist vibrant and more pigment loaded, more opaque Asian style watercolor, Holbein, ShinHan, White Noghts and Mijello are top tier and all somewhat in that category in my mind.
    Daniel Smith has a PHENOMENAL color range, especially with the Primatek and all the granulating and layered colors. Their paint is super high quality and I love the way it moves and looks while I’m painting and the finished product. Their hand poured pans make them feel even more special.
    I look forward and get excited when I use both Daniel Smith and Mijello. I couldn’t choose between them. They both have their strengths and neither is bad or low quality- there’s just different characteristics for different artists and their needs.

    I have tried daniel smith and mission gold. You can’t go wrong with DS but for some reason mission really brings a unique blend for their pigments

    I'm not one to look at the "good and bad" but to define the properties of paint I have and use it for those specific purposes, none of my pieces are exclusively one brand. That goes for Watercolor, Gouache, pastel, and colour pencil. I find every supply i try(not the obviously really bad ones) makes some type of unique mark that is usable in some form.

  • @pantalonious3984
    @pantalonious3984 2 года назад +8

    You could have and SHOULD have at least used the same colors and pigments for comparisons especially granulation. This was not a fair representation

      True!

    • @joseandygonzalez5624
      @joseandygonzalez5624 2 года назад +4

      I think the same, is not an impartial comparisons, I can even see the amount of water she use to try how it spread in wet sheet and she put less to try Mission Gold. So From the first moment she was selling the DS. dislike

  • @huseyinturk9635
    @huseyinturk9635 6 месяцев назад

    Dear Niaz, This comparison was absolutely wrong, you should compare pigments one by one in each brand. For example PB29 (granulating pigment) Ultramarines. PB 15:3 (non granulating pigment) Phthalo Blues YS. PB28 Cobalt Blues. PY 3 Lemon Yellows etc. Same brush, by equal pigment and water amount on equal paper area etc. I think yes Daniel Smith is a bit better than Mijello. But Mijello Mission Gold is cheaper four times than DS. You can buy 4 pieces of MG 15 ml tubes instead of DS'. I love high-quality Mijello Mission Gold for more and more affordable prices.

  • @chedoodles
    @chedoodles 3 года назад

    what a leap of brand. so much difference between the two, one being that Daniel Smith makes beautiful, granulating, flowing colors and the other, not so much when it comes to flow and granulation. this is gonna be exciting

    • @niazhannanwatercolors
      @niazhannanwatercolors  3 года назад +1

      It becomes even more exciting when you have mixed brands in your palette and you know how each color react differently for different parts of the painting! Like i would love MG for the clouds as i don't want my clouds to be granulating

    • @mydogeatspuke
      @mydogeatspuke 2 года назад +4

      Mission Gold have plenty of granulating colours. They have lower "flow" because they don't use dispersal agents made from animal biproducts, but you can add a few drops of ox gall to your water to combat this if it's important to you. All brands offer something different, one isn't objectively better than the other just because you prefer a certain behaviour in your paints.

    This is not a fair comparison at all. To do a fair comparison you should use the same pigment properties side by side. You can’t expect a transparent staining pigment to respond the same as an opaque or granulating pigment…..geeze.
