      It's a reference Blu-Ray disc, a reference 4k disc, will be forever a reference for whatever new format gets invented. One of the most visually spectacular FX films ever made, and the story gimmick of the pilots connecting directly into each other's minds and memories give the relationship between the two leads more depth and nuance than you would usually find in a typical blockbuster.

    Charlie Day was terrific in "Pacific Rim". One of the highlights of the whole film. The same is true for "Horrible Bosses".
    I'm sure that sooner or later he will get around to a more dramatic role and just kill it.
    In the meantime, "Charlie on IASIP" is by now an iconic TV comic character, ranked up there with the greatest.

      The two-driver scenario felt silly, it wasn't about the effects. I'd agree that compared to Marvel movies it should've been better received but the bar isn't that high on a lot of MCU movies anyway, I'd more make the case why were a lot of MCU films so popular despite their quality.

    And then Pacific Rim Uprising happened... I didn't hate the movie, i thought it was fun but the west is not ready for that kind of mech action. They're used to clunky, slow moving walking tanks, not high speed, split second reflexes mech pilots dancing around enemy fire and a thousand missles coming at them from all directions making Neo look like a baby in the Matrix. It's a japanese thing, i'm all here for it, but the majority of the western world is not

    • @Ganiscol
      @Ganiscol Год назад +6

      Exactly my thought. It was entertaining enough to watch a few times at home but the VFX choreography is just not on that same level of gravitas as the first film. You could see and sense the weight of these machines and beasts. I always suspected it was del Toro's touch and attention to detail that extracted this from ILM. Now that Charlie said this thing about scratching the lense, something I've never heard of, I'm sure he was making the difference. I suppose you do have to be very specific as a director to get the real thing out of the VFX artists, even if it is the legendary ILM.
