Hi guys, I want to update you all on the power output of the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid 1.8L on Genting hill climb for normal people. Previously I was worried that the car won't have enough power to climb to Genting Highlands as it's a route I drive often, sometimes, fully loaded. I now have 4000km on this car and I did multiple trips up genting hill, fully loaded (4 adults + luggage) with no issues whatsoever. I can easily maintain 40-60km/h going up hill with power to spare. Not once have I seen the battery go down below 4/8 bars climbing (starting from 6/8 bars of battery power). Only if you drive like uncle Khong with the pedal pressed all the way down the entire way up will you see the battery not able to sustain the eboosts. That's not how mere mortals like us drive. Therefore, I do not think there's any stretch of road in peninsular Malaysia that this car will struggle to drive. Averages 5.0L/100km going uphill then gliding back down, even when fully loaded. Normal efficient city driving is 4.3L/100km. Efficient highway driving (KL to Penang) I can do 3.9L/100km. Worst case scenario driving, like super short trips (lots of warm up cycle), short uphill and downhill driving is 5.7L/100km. P/s: a bit of an update. I was in a hurry and raced up Genting (as fast as I can) recently with about 200kg payload (including myself). E-boosts did run out in the last part around chin swee temple. I wasn’t able to sprint past about 60~70 km/hr when the engine was at max output. So the PWR indicator was not able to hit maximum i.e 12 o’clock position; it was only able to hit 10-11 o’clock position with the pedal bottomed out. I still love this car and think the limitation is arbitrary for all but the most extreme driving cases. That is, high speed full pedal hill climbing with a heavy load.
can it overtake other car in highspeed on highway let say around 140-150kmh? or even genting with 80-90kmh? because im interested on this TCCH, and thot that hybrid is fuel efficient and have more torque so it supposedly can overtake car with ease. i will use it in the city for daily usage thats why need torque to cilok2. and weekend will go from kajang to kemaman fast around 140-150kmh. is this car for me? if not can you suggest compact suv that suits me? thank you sir.
@@freiazlana9510 I don’t think this car would suit you. The car has a hard speed limiter of 160km/hr. Due to synergy drive with a smaller atkinson engine and CVT transmission, high speed torque is limited. Acceleration is very fast from 0-60km but after that it takes time to build speed. Never tried genting at 80-90km but Uncle Kong certainly did drive it up at that speed. You will lose the fuel efficiency driving the way you described. You will use 6+L/100km above 140-150km/hr.
I finally got my TCC 2 weeks ago and it was worth the 6 months wait. I drove to Seri Iskandar and the journey was a mix of highways and jalan kampung. Very good handling and good fuel consumption. Managed to drive there and back to Petaling Jaya with just a bit more than half tank of fuel. I drove mostly abt 90 - 120km/h and I managed to reach 150km/h with ease. I've seen some ppl commented that it is underpowered - to me it depends on your purpose of buying the vehicle. If you are an aggressive driver who wants power all the time - don't buy this car! If you like driving and know when to cruise and when to push it, budget conscious and value comfort & safety - then go for this! It's also a good way to help protect the environment - less carbon emissions. A very good investment indeed. 🤩👍
i believe potential buyers hold up buying Hybrid cars mainly because of the cost of battery maintenance esp after the warranty has ended. If the battery is made affordable and it is available for change or repair in the open market on top of Service centre, I believe it can attract more potential buyers.

Power mode relaxes it a bit but mine being a new car overall I felt like I was pushing the motor too hard and got nervous etc. I’m surprised that you have not given any neg feedback on this.
@@YSKhongDriving thanks for the response. So, you really don’t think there is anything negative about this car’s uphill drive? Great review of the car. Here in Europe we are not able to find test of the car as such. Especially with hybrid cars. I was just wondering if a Corolla Cross 2.0 hybrid would make a difference going uphill? As I am thinking of buying one, but cant decide on those two. Would you still say that 1.8 is underpowered and creates a big noise?
My mother just bought Toyota cross hybrid. It is a good car with excellent comfort, marvellous fuel consumption and good hybrid technology The cons are when idling and the moment engine takes over, it is very noisy like a lorry. Secondly the infotainment system is near to worst. Example, when u are using map and wants to enter a junction, once u turn on the signal, the 360 camera pops out and u cannot even turn back to maps without switching off the signal. The infotainment system is a garbage when the car is moving. U cannot do anything. Toyota blocks it in the name of safety. Kudos to Honda for not doing that. The sound system sucks. Lastly when u are not wearing seat belt the alarm sounds like an ambulance siren
Both are great vehicles. The XV costs a bit more, but has AWD. The Cross is perhaps more fuel efficient, and has a bit more boot space. Difficult choice, but either one is a good pick.
Was abit more interested in the new HR-V RS eHEV. Went to showroom for test drive but get reply from SA says now all SC in malaysia didn’t provide a test drive unit for hybrid. So, am interested on how does it perform under the hand of master sifu.
Uncle, can you comment the difference feeling between ECvt ini Hybrid vs 7 Speed CVT in regular CC? You tested both on Genting. Any comments? Which one is better is one drive quite aggressive.
The petrol one sustains the power better. Uphill, the battery can run out and then you only have the engine. This is common across most hybrids. Downhill, the hybrid does a lot better.
It depends on you really. Both run different systems - the Toyota system is well proven and reliable; the Honda features the iMMD system which gets more power and is a newer system. The HRV is B segment while the Cross is more C segment. Either one is just as good, so ot comes down to brand or preference for the looks. The older ones would gravitate towards the Cross while the younger ones like the HRV looks.
