Theoretically when the batteries run dry, the 2nd motor acts as a generator to power the driven motor "directly" while charging the battery a little bit. So in other words the motor can run independently of the battery as long the petrol engine is turning the generator. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thats my ideal test drive with a full compliment to really gauge the vehicles capability uphill. Many cars are good on a flat surface but when you take them uphill they suck. With Bro. YS on the wheel.....if they suck then you can give em a miss.
I’m the previous Honda City hybrid owner. When I drive the car go up Genting, the battery didn’t help more, most of the time is the engine power up the car. Same goes to down hill, even I switch to sports mode. But the sounds still loud as this HRV 😂
I have NISSAN x-trail hybrid. I have drove the same to genting last year which i am satisfied with it performance and it also maintain very well on battery power as compared to my previous Honda Jazz hybrid. In fact from videa shared, X-trail Hybrid is way faster than HRV hybrid and Toyota Cross Hybrid for both engine and chassis handling. Of course fuel consumption definitely uncomparable with both but still not bad compare with its heavy 1.6 tons weight.
Uncle YS, everyone's favourite pro-driver! Uncle, want to ask, how would you compare the HRV Hybrid with the Corolla Cross Hybrid (it seemed to struggled horribly in your previous video) in the Genting drive.
Hello Uncle! Just an idea, since you are using same route in your Genting spirited drives can you start measuring the fuel consumption for every car you test? You may fill up to the max at Genting Sempah then fill up max again at Petron Genting hilltop to measure the consumption.
Hahaha, it makes no sense do do fc test on the climb, because this is not an everyday situation. 98 percent of the population do not drive like that, so nobody really cares what the fc is.
i dont know la this car 140k, add another 15k you can get Mazda CX5 2.0L High (yeah different segment, but if you look into gap, is a big jump, and HRV pricing is to figh segment C SUV as well).... then you have toyota Cross Hybrid 136K, cheaper by 4k (segment B/C)... I really dont know
As for me, i have test driven both hrv n cx5...no competition whatsoever the cx5 wins all! But, there is different type of people which has their own preferences, like for instance the latest gen pursuer which prefer not to get outdated as this car is a hype...the hybrid powerhouse vs na, the eco guy chose this powertrain for sure...n then the young lady which prefer a small suv than the bigger option, just to stay in their young life as an age statement, this category also apply to men or specifically young boys spirit...n finally the high rv type of people, that already set their mind to change to better car in near future, this car for sure sells very well as trade in for dp...but, as for me a jack of all trades motorhead...this hrv with turbo variant suit best to smoke the cx5 in dust whenever i found sluggish one on the highway~ 😂🫰🏻
It’s the engine noise, the engine needs to work very hard to turn the generator to generate electricity to power the motor to drive the wheels at the same time charging the battery. It’s actually an electric car with a pasar malam generator in the bonnet, just that this generator can drive the wheels directly during high speed cruise 😂
Actually the motor does the main propulsion: the engineers also make the engine accelerate roughly in sync with the accelerator pedal, and increasing the engine speed also increases the battery charging. The engine also helps to power the car during acceleration. During normal drive, it is more silent. Perhaps they could have silenced the engine a bit more.
@@YSKhongDriving Thank you, uncle! A hybrid system paired with a turbo engine with dct is really something! But that would be an expensive vehicle also 😅😂
Depends on what you are looking for. The HRV has a turbo variant that the Cross does not so of ypu want power, it's the HR-V. The Cross is C segment, so the trim is higher amd the size is slightly bigger, and the Cross is very stable and reliable. It is a Toyota.
This kind of uphill climb really demonstrates the weakness of Honda iMMD hybrid technology. Engine and motor cannot propel the wheels at the same time like the Toyota hybrid can. In higher speed or demanding drive like on uphill, engine is predominantly driving the car. A tiny engine with only 107PS at extremely high rpm of 6000-6400 for such a large car, the almost unbearable whining engine noise is not surprising at all.
Remembering of course that you do your driving most of the time on more flat terrain. We take our cars onto this road more to check out the handling than anything else, besides this road being one of the safest to check out any car. Anyways, thanks for watching our videos. Yeah i can verify u, it's extremely n unbearably loud even from the get go...i was shocked at first but then the combination of motor plus cvt has produce this loud noise as a result unfortunately~ only the turbo variant mitigate the issue effortlessly..u should try that though~ 👌🏻
That engine noise would take away everything good about driving that car, however competent it actually is.....as for that i8 driver👀 I drove plenty of those during my time at BMW, pretty quick car, unfortunately owning one doesn't make you a good driver, like a fat man in running shoes doesn't make him a runner. P.S. (looks over own belly at running shoes) Damn.

I'm currently driving a Vezel eHEV X variant in Singapore. It's one of the best cars I ever driven so far.
We don't have that one here, yet.
@@YSKhongDriving I thought the Malaysian market rs have the same ehev powertrain as any other country...plus we do have turbo variant as well~ 😎💪🏻

The previous hybrid system is mainly engine power helped by the motor.

Sport of course.
Uncle YS, everyone's favourite pro-driver!
Uncle, want to ask, how would you compare the HRV Hybrid with the Corolla Cross Hybrid (it seemed to struggled horribly in your previous video) in the Genting drive.
Both struggle a little whwn the batteries run low. On normal droving, both are actually great vehicles
Hrv RS aka the screamer.
No wonder uncle censored the speedomoter, because the car is too slow.. might offend some people..
Hahaha.

Sifu..U should test drive the Non turbo/Low Spec version...
No car.
Tis car feels slower la uncle. I'm buying the Turbo variant.
The turbo variant is great. For city driving, the hybrid is good. If you work in Genting, yes, the turbo is better.
Is that the gearbox noise dominating the whole video?
It’s the engine noise, the engine needs to work very hard to turn the generator to generate electricity to power the motor to drive the wheels at the same time charging the battery. Always. I meant always Alphard/Vellfire will hog the right lane. Failed
Are u using sport mode?
Yes.
Is this overall more noisy than the turbo variant? Which do you like more, uncle, the turbo engine or this one?
In the city, this is better: on the mountain the turbo is my preference. What I would like - a Turbo 1.5 engine and a hybrid system, with a DCT.

Can u pls do genting hill climb using ford ranger next gen xlt 2.0 . Tia
the HRV RS looks nice but very sluggish based on your drive.
Then go for the turbo.
BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid
Thanks: never tested or driven one. That's what I thought. I remember it had a small engine.
It should be a 1.5T engine paired with electric motor
Between Honda HRV eHEV versus Tototal Corolla Cross Hybrid. Which would you go for?
It depends on your needs. Both are economical to run. The Cross is slightly bigger.
@@YSKhongDriving which has better handling?
