  • Finally, we managed to get one unit of the Civic RS e-HEV, courtesy of Honda Malaysia, and here is our video of it being checked out on our favorite hill climb, Genting Highlands.
    The road was as dry as a bone, and we managed to get a good run early in the morning.
    The new hybrid system worked very well, and the 315 Nm of torque was really helpful. There seemed to be a bit of a cutback on the power near the very top, but it could have been my imagination.
    Overall, I think it is a great car - here is one that can give you the best of ICE and BEV combined.

    Nice drive! You're the first car reviewer on RUclips that explained the EHEV power train correctly. Almost everyone else keeps saying incorrectly that the EHEV had a CVT gearbox.

      Other reviewers don't make the distinction between a conventional belt driven CVT and other systems like here that effectively do the same thing (continuously vary the ratio/power flow to suit the needs of the driver). Technically the term is correct, even if it can seem misleading.

    • @AlrienJ
      @AlrienJ 3 месяца назад

      @@scott8919 It's not even technically correct. The car is driven by an electric motor, the gear ratio is not changing like in a Toyota hybrid where the engine actually powers the wheels with a variable gear ratio. They should have called it something unique, like "EVT" for "Electric Vehicle Transmission" since it is effectively using an EV powertrain to deliver power generated by a 2.0 liter engine

      Technically in terms of looks I put the Mazda 3 slightly ahead of the civic FE . The rear pattern of the civic doesn’t sit well to my liking . A little bit laid back looking .
      But yes ! I agree that this is quite a close call overall . I’m going for the Mazda 3 mainly because there are not many on the road - and I love the feel and outlook of the interior .
      Paint quality is also better on the Mazda . Handling close but I prefer the Mazda ride .
      I like the civic’s dashboard and the civic surely has better power marginally to the Mazda . Civic also has better cabin space . Especially the rear.
      The mazda3 ‘s weakness to me = could be slightly more powerful . Rear seats could offer slightly better leg room and head space . Sports rims could be better in design . Period .

      We are travelling quite fast and road is bumpy. Tje suspension is on tbe firm side of comfortable, vey good all rounder performance. A bit of stiffening will make it handle even better. This test car is stock standard, including tire pressures.

That simulated engine roar and gear change is absolutely unnecessary and petty. I am not going to pay for that stupid simulated sound.

    104kmh just upshifted, then at 120kmh upshifted again. just ridiculous. What is this ? some kind of fast and furious unlimited gear shift tricks ? if the car has top speed of 160kmh (myvi 1.3) then it will upshift 10 times ? i know sound is fake but this is just absurd.
    dont even get me started commenting on the sound.

      Erm, do u know that you are talking about the civic e:HEV? It doesn't have any traditional gears. No upshift or downshift. It is almost entirely driven by the electric motor for all speed ranges except when cruising.
