Toyota Corolla 2020 [Genting Hill Climb] - 2nd Drive, All By Myself | YS Khong Driving

  • The last time I took the Corolla up the hill, there were three big men seated inside. That took its toll on acceleration and handling, because an additional 200 kg ( could have been a bit more than that) weight would have changed the behaviour characteristics somewhat.
    This time, I got to really push the Corolla around those same bends, and the difference is huge.
    See for yourself how the TNGA really worked: you may think handling is not so imoortant, because you perhaps don't drive so fast - actually a good hamdling car means it is more likely to stay on the road even at lower speeds. It is easier to control, and of course, being comfortable means you are less fatigued at the end of a long journey.
    Please enjoy the video, and dont forget to share, and subscribe.

    This is fantastically done by YS. I didn't know Corolla can do that. This seems almost as good n direct as Mazda 3. YS really bring out the car potential.
    One question, does this TNGA Corolla handles better than a VW Passat? Not outright power, just handling aspect. I saw both video and it seems to go faster on this Corolla than the 2020 Passat. And no video on driving about 2019 Passat.

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  3 года назад +7

      The Passat is a larger car than the Corolla, in terms of total time to do the climb, I would say the Passat is probably faster around the corners and would have a highr top speed. The Corolla is very agile, and can potentislly go just as fast, but does not have the torque up the hill. Going down, it would probably be just as fast, but would lose out on the straights. They are two very different cars, and righly the Passat should be compared to Camry.

    You sir, can make driving an under-powered car seems fun. Even though u drove fast, i can see that u were behaved, unlike any other reviewers in Malaysia, driving at the same place. I can felt their rudeness.
    BTW sir, u have to try to put your microphone at the same location in each review, and at the same volume/settings too. Looks like Civic's CVT is more whiny (whinier?) than the Corolla. And I can feel (hear?) the paddle shift in this Corolla is a little faster to respond than the Civic.

    Uncle Khong, did you ever need to use the paddle shifter at all. How responsive are the manual gear changes
    What tyres Is the altis using?

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  3 года назад +2

      I use them to help me shift down for corners in order to keep in the right rev range so I can scoot out under acceleration. I honestly do not know what tyres they are using. Perhaps if you watch our walkaround, I may have mentioned it. The ones on the car are the standard issues, as per factory specs.

    How's the handling of this Corolla compared to the Jetta? And Corolla vs the 1 generation older Mazda3(multilink suspension)? Yeah the double wishbone setup opens up a lot of setup possibilities for camber progressions on suspension bound... Which allows Toyota to setup a sweet spot which is awesome for daily driving hence I wanted to know the comparison mentioned earlier. Thank you uncle. Awesome drive as always!

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  3 года назад +1

      We did another vodep that explains why the tnga helps to improve handling without the need for harsh suspension. This set up allows for a more practical daily drive vehicle.

    Uncle YS, Ride handling comparing this car with Arteon. which one is better?

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  3 года назад

      The Arteon is a D segment, and is of course more luxurious amd comfortable. Ride in the Corolla is good but remember it is C segment. The Corolla also handles well, but it probably needs a bigger wheel and better tyres if it wants to match the Arteon. Best not to compare the two.
