In my opinion, the zig-zag pattern of the gear selector going to P, R,N,D, (S)is actually a good thing. Because sometimes a straight line gear selector, can sometimes makes you accidentally when to (S) without you noticing While the zig-zag pattern, reduce your accidentally put into (S). Even if you put into (S), you will know what gears if you have chosen
Yes especially for senior citizen, zig zag pattern help my father aware which gear is engaged. If the car has bigger font on the dashbord its ok but if smaller font they always complaining cannot see it.
Personally I've been a civic fan for the longest time,even when I saw the specs of the Corolla when it first came out, I laughed at it's carried over 1.8 engine. My opinions changed when I went for a test drive. The ride was so smooth and quite. The handling and seating was just spot on. In the civic I felt a bit too low for my liking (did give a sporty feel). With the civics 1.5T engine,yes you get a lot more power but that power isn't necessary in day to day driving. So I think this time, the Corolla is a winner for me 😄
Yeah, i guess it's fair to say most of us grew up worshiping the Civic but it's sad to see this lil' fella being overshadowed in sales. The Civic feels roomier because the rear seats are just too thin and too low.
U will suffer when passby the genting road with full load. This car more suitable for city drive, and i guess vios more then enough for city drive, normal buyers wont spend 130-140k for this. Import from thailand is bad move, buyer mayb can accept this price if import from japan just like mazda3 la. Now i can see new mazda3 more then new altis.
Totally agree with u. I am civic fc owner as well. But when i drove this car, i quite suprised. Very nice handling and feel. Only lack in interior design and accessories.

There's a lot to like about Toyota's current lineup, but it sucks that their image is tarnished by UMW, the cars are much better outside our market. I don't think I'll be buying a new car from UMW. For general public of non-Toyota nor Honda fans, Civic has done so many things right on paper and in showroom, let alone the 1.5Turbo engine with additional 50Nm compared to the lethargic 1.8NA in Corolla... This is why Civic is such a huge success even after so many years on market... But still Corolla is going to appeal to a huge bunch of Toyota fanboys and general mindset of looking for reliability and resale value, at least it is now in a much safer way with TSS...

True, like many out there, the Civic's turbo-fed performance and price augurs well. The TNGA platform is not just about fitting double wishbones at the back and making a modular platform, i think it really works. Upgrading from a 2004 Vios , this Corolla was sorely tempting as the ideal daily ride but me being anti CVT i opted for the Camry.
having previously owned the previous altis with the gated transmission shift lever, i'd say it's the one thing that i missed. you can just shift without looking and not getting it wrong unlike the straight shift levers., it was just so intuitive
Having used to almera 2011 screaming everytime overtaking vehicles, i would probably can tolerate this car sluggishness. After spend thousands of ringgit for repairs in couples of recent months, I'm looking to change for more reliable car and from what I have searched, corolla is among the tops. After watching this video I'm booking one.

Eu Jin, I totally agree with you on the backseat which is too upright for my liking as well. It's as if I am being punished if I am asked to go for a long road trip. The interior is plush but definitely much need to be done to improve it. If UMW going to charge for that much, they should at least perfect the infotainment system and lack of power in the engine. I will probably look forward to the facelift instead of buying this model.

If you would go for the E variant, there's even no reason not to go for the Civic 1.8 i-VTEC variant. Think about the specs...the safety features and convenient equipments that you can get for RM109k. It's a steal to me.

Looks are subjective. I thought this look better than the civic the civic grill in front looked like teeth on a car. Now the Jazz 2020 is worse. I have seen a number of reviews and the conclusion is the same, the civic is more powerful while the corolla is more comfortable.

Yea pretty strong ones actually. The Corolla isn't absolutely better than the Civic. In some respects, the Civic is still relevant and prevalent. But in the day to day aspects of driving, the Corolla sets a new standard, even against the Mazda 3. Go for a test drive first, then we'll talk again.
Civic driving experience is nowhere near continental cars except in a straight line. Steering feel numb, cornering is okay if you never drive a conti, a bit below average if you lived with a conti. I'm guessing this will be more or less the same plus a bit more sluggish due to the 1.8l engine. Front end looks good though.
They finally listened...spec-ing their cars quite well now with the advance driver assist. While it looks good exterior wise, the interior is still very boring. Look at the door panel, very empty no design what so ever. Unlike the more stylish civic and mazda3. Then the beeping, the lane keeping and all other warning beep, so 20 yrs ago tit..tit..tit.. Other cars' beeping so nice to hear...the mazda3 for example. In the end, just 20k more or about 200 extra per month, mazda3 is a better driver's car. (I'm not a salesman)
There's a lot to like about Toyota's current lineup. Too bad, UMW being what they are, they had to ruin the cars when these entered our market. The Corolla and RAV 4 are no exception. Even if I wanted one of these, I don't think I'll be buying them as long as it's from UMW. Period.

the civic is a little more powerful? The civic has 33hp and 48Nm more than the Corolla. That's not a little, that's a lot more.
But it is a little less comfortable and a little prone to stuff making noises and breakdown unlike the corolla. So that is a little too hassle for me

I have twin rear USB ports on mine and ambient lighting, 17" wheels with Yokohama 215/45/17 tyres and my car is only the luxury version!

There's a lot to like about Toyota's current lineup. Too bad, UMW being what they are, they had to ruin the cars when these entered our market.
The Corolla and RAV 4 are no exception.
Even if I wanted one of these, I don't think I'll be buying them as long as it's from UMW. Period.
@ckk12588 it's not just tax, this corolla were built in Thai and import here, 🇹🇭 has higher currency than 🇲🇾.
