Review: 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser - Better than Ever?

- I review the all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser on and off-road to see what it's like. With power now coming from the 2.4L hybrid turbo iForceMAX engine and a chassis and suspension that's much more sophisticated than before, the 2024 Land Cruiser clearly is a far departure from the prior generation. But in my opinion those changes are for the better and they make the Land Cruiser even more fun, capable and easy to live than before. What do you think about the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser? Big thanks to Toyota for bringing me out and hosting me in San Diego for this event!

Holy crap this thing is huge. I actually love it.
I had no interest in that kind of vehicle until watching this video, now I want one 😂
Haha same here, I'm not into body on frame trucks personally, but honestly think it would be fun to have something like this.
matt will definitely use this as testimonial for his sponsors 😂
Great looking vehicle. Thanks for showcasing the performance of the I-Force Max engine. This and the new GX are on my list to look at as a next daily driver.
I'm not a fan of SUVs, but man I can tell Toyota is cooking with these new truck based SUVs. So many models, they're about to make a boat load of money since they're really catering to Americans
Toyota has been killing it with all their new SUV models like Sequoia, 4Runner, Crown Segnia and now this
Awesome vehicle! Way to go Matt great presentation.
This looks great
This looks sooooo good ❤
Nice job Matt.
Thanks!
Every time I watch Matt's video I feel he is real rare car enthusiastic on RUclips, he can always describe the feel of drive exactly like we are really on the car with him, and also NObody from other bigger channels pointed out details like "the A and B pillars are much thinner".
Thank you, I'm glad you like the videos!
Love the color the look 🎉
staring at 58k is crazy.
Crazy as in too high of a price or crazy as quite a bargain? 🧐
@@paulira7407 I gotta stop reading comments on car reviews. It is non stop bitching about the prices. Prices that are not going to change.
@@paulira7407definitely too high. That 1958 is really basic.
@@alexsmba Thats actually the point.
@@8whiteout and my point was the price was too high for it being that basic. I stand by that.
I like the round headlights better
I saw one at the auto show and she's a big boi
I like the styling on this. I was guessing the base price would start @ $60k, with taxes and dealer fees added, I was pretty close. Great review Matt!
Thanks!
Thanks!
I appreciate the height of it, and that base trim seems like a decent value. I’m still a little confused by this vs the 4Runner.
Big differences are the option in the 4Runner to get the non-hybrid, 3rd row seating-non hybrid only, and less expensive part time 4wd system. There are other small things like the roll down rear window as well. The other things are options for certain trims that will likely push the high end ones real close to the 1958 edition at least.
This thing is so stupid cool, I can’t wait for them to become more commonplace so that one can be purchased without ADM.
Can't find a LC at msrp in CA. The cheapest i found had a $10K mark up, some dealers are adding $15K and higher, and people are still paying.
I seen one on Autotrader for a little over 100 grand.
I’m surprised the engine wasn’t more isolated, I get it being louder in the Tacoma but I thought it would be more quiet in this and we’ll see how it sounds in the 4Runner but it will probably sound the same
Yeah I wouldn't expect 4Runner to be any quieter than this. I will say I was climbing mountain roads at speed in this so I'm sure in a more ordinary environment it'll be more subdued when the engine isn't being pushed all the time. If you value isolation though I'd recommend spending the extra money for the GX if you can.
I thought the hybrid Max only had a 6 speed automatic?
Nah
Which do you prefer? GX 550 or The Land Cruiser
I like luxury so GX for me.
300 series didn't last long?
I’m still confused how this fits in the segment. The new 4Runner has the same engine and the TRD pro can do everything the Land Cruiser can for less money. Then the Lexus GX is literally the Land Cruiser with a better engine and not much more money. I’ll be interested to see how this sells. I feel like they should’ve gave it more power or made it slightly longer with more features.
What makes that steering wheel seem "old school"?
Toyota spelled out instead of a logo?
The spelling and the more blocky design.
I wonder how hard it would be to add the 3rd row if other regions get it 🤔
Overseas has a diesel so no battery in the trunk. Doubtful to add a logical 3rd row with the battery pack in the US.
The modern FJ Cruiser
bro , it's 2024, not 2025 , he just started with a misleading info , I was like really , 2025 , the I checked the title !!!!!
First
I wish Toyota didn't kill off the land cruiser and use the name on the third version of the 4 runner.
This thing has always been a Land Cruiser Prado. 3rd gen 4Runner was riding on a 90 series LC Prado frame, 4th and 5th gen 4Runners rode on the 120 and 150 LC Prado frames and now we get the 250 LC Prado and the 6th gen 4Runner both riding on the Land Cruiser 300 frame.
omg the nasty 4cyl drone. I'm still at a disbelief why the V6 turbo was not offered here.
wait is this a 2025 or a 2024
2024 according to Toyota.
Sorry engines sounds coarse/cheap when you floored it. Needed 6 cylinder like new GX
Then buy a GX
Third! I have 24’ F150 videos on my channel if anyone wants to see 🙏🏽
No way in hell i'll pay that much for a 4 cylinder engine.
yeah no thanks
Your video first. I’m wondering how the noisy engine is going to sound in this iteration, now on to the video!
Edit: Yikes! 9:46, that’s LOUD. C’mon Toyota
Huh? Doesn’t sound noisy to me
Engine blows.
Literally 😂 rip reliability
Well, we just have to vote differently next time, and we won’t have to worry about small engines being forced on us anymore.
CAFE sucks.
??? Small engine blows? Little “old think” there. It’s literally 20h.p. and 10ft/lb less than a twin turbo V6 from the GX550. THE MOST reliable engine designers ever, Yamaha (which is who designs or co-design ALL of Toyotas engine) AND it saves almost 25% more fuel. Probably more. I’m waiting to see 0-60 numbers. I’m betting they won’t be much different at all. Fudds need their keyboards taken away by the nurse.
@@charliemcawesome5012 it’s buzzy and not premium sounding. Haven’t been in one yet, but my guess is the NVH is no good. Yes hp and torque are there. But real world economy with the Tundra V6 is no good. Reliability is unknown at this point but lots more to go wrong.
@@jbdoingjbstuffthe Tundra hybrid wasn’t set up for economy. It was set up for torque. And even with almost 200 lb-ft better than the old 5.7, it’s WAY better in fuel economy than that old thing. The 5.7 got about 13 city / 18 highway.
unfortunately this is nothing like the iconic land cruisers of the past-A 4 cylinder turbo battery is more like a mall cruiser because of the EPA carbon foot print bull!!
