I’m a BMW tech here in Scottsdale AZ - I can’t speak on Mazda but modern Toyotas I’ve seen are horrendous to work on, just as bad as any BMW. Google a picture of a GR Corolla engine bay with the engine cover removed, nothing but wires, lines & hoses as far as the eye can see. Obviously it’s probably a lot cheaper tho. I do have to say the b58 relative to other modern turbo engines (VR30, N63, M177) is very easy to work on.
44k for the CVT GT is just idiotic. The new tS also seems to fall short. All subaru needs to do is add brembos, recaro seats, and bump power to 300+ and they would be sold out…
The reason for Genesis using Lucid motors is probably less for power and more about packaging. Lucid has some of the most compact and space efficient motors per horsepower of anyone out there, and perhaps within the shape of the X Concept they could not fit larger motors.

Mazda has never been about pure horse power. Even the RX7 was down on power compared to its rivals but usually finishes on top because of better driving dynamics and less weight. The CX90 is it's most powerful engine ever produced.
So the supra ending in 2025 lines up with the BestCar article about the next gen GR86 having a sedan and coupe version based on the IS platform. I could see them scraping two Co-Developed platforms for one in house scaleable RWD performance platform.

Hey Matt - the STI badge is fine. People in the US think the STI is a separate model or a different car. STI is an in-house tuner. That means they put STI components on regular cars. Yes, there was an STI, but it was a WRX STI. Since that ended, they put STI parts on the WRX, as you said in your video. There is nothing wrong with putting the STI label on cars with STI parts. Audi does it with the S Line, for example. We gotta get over this misconception. The “STI” was a WRX with STI parts. The Ts is a WRX with STI parts, just different ones. Get over it.
Man I’ve seen older ones go for higher then that yet you don’t get mad when used cars are valuable? The 2 door one called 22b is like $300k or something yet people think that’s acceptible but not a new car being expensive?!?
@@sbs-0055 I know what I’m talking about. People cheer when older cars sell for big money, the same people get upset when the MSRP on a new car is like expensive 🤦♂️
Despite it being 99.9% a BMW the Zupra is one hell of a car, it's what BMW should have done with a new Z4 M clown shoe to go up against the Cayman. BMW did surprise me with that B58, that engine is among legends! Nice to see the Toyota Mazda partnership making a real JDM Supra and not a GR Euro tuner car. It's awesome that Mazda has been working on their interiors also. Nissan better step it up with the Z interior or lower the price on the h-shift base model!
The rumors I’ve read on the Supramkv forums is Toyota will move MK6 Supra development in house and will use a toyota/lexus shared engine-Lexus may have another sports car or two coming with either a 6 or 8 cylinder.
It won't be a Supra if it doesn't have a i6, and toyota isn't going to waste money on making a i6 for only one car unless you want a 6 figure Supra, they should just dump the Supra and just bring back the mr2.
Never heard this cause I read the forums regularly. Wouldn't make sense using anything from lexus cause all of their engines are outdated + none being i6 is a fat no in going in the supra. The only 2-3 routes that make sense for a mk6 is- 1. Using mazdas I6 + new rwd mazda platform as a rebadged supra. 2. A EV supra. Or 3. Toyota extending their partnership with bmw *IF* they wanted to make it a hybrid mk5.
I was holding out for a VB STi, my wife has a VB WRX. Sold my GV and got a ZL1 Camaro. Subaru doesn't want to put out the STi, then I guess I'm not a Subaru customer anymore.
I'm excited to see the production version of the Recon. I was starting to think it wouldn't happen. Also curious to see if your theory about a new Cherokee is true. I'm hoping it's more rugged and not just another forgettable cross-over. It boggles the mind how they don't have a real 4Runner competitor. The Wrangler is too hardcore, and the Grand Cherokee is too soft. It feels like a gaping hole in the lineup of the company that should have an off-roader for every taste.
Affordable sports cars starts falling off (discontinued ) one after the other. The main reason is sales and I don’t blame car companies. Most now buy mid sized and small crossover cars.
Wunderbar! Another Episode of the Matt Maran Friday Night Car News Show - with a lot of great topics again. Wishing everybody here a great day and a fantastic weekend ahead. Enjoy the News and your free time!
The tS is practically an STI minus the transmission and power bump. It does now have the different driving modes similar to the DCCD and it has active torque vectoring. That's right from Subaru of America's website. Upgrade the clutch and get a tune and you practically have an STI.
@OneProN00B ive owned two STIs, they really aren't that special. The transmission is literally the best part. Most people buying these cars modify the hell out of them, if you have the extra coin just have a shop do an STI trans swap.
Jeep NEEDS to do something, incentives, lower prices, better rates, something. Their prices are making them sit on the lots. Grand Cherokees are more than Mercedes. Now i know if it was me i wouldn't take the Jeep. Same with RAM
Dang i thought the TR was a good package for a decent price. Brembos, Recaros, and Harmon Kardon stereo are worthwhile options imo. Too bad it’ll probably several thousand more now to get those features.
The WRX still has some fatal flaws like the plastic over the wheels, the vertical display which necessitates really awkward long, long vents beside it, and plastic fabric on the seats instead of leather. Alcantara type fabrics absorb sweat, odor, and also cause static in the winter. Your car will shock you when you get out! On the way out for the Supra made in the least popular color ever, orange, they are asking why can't we sell these orange cars?
@@falxonPSNnot a problem - it is called marketing. They in business, after all, to make cars, and not to make you individually happy. You can mod it, right?
Considering all these new trims for the WRX, I wouldn't be surprised if for 2026, we end up getting an STI. The tS is basically just a transmission and power bump away from being one.
That doesn't justify the "STI" Badge. Subaru has lost their rockers. We cant even get ride of the WRX now. 5 sitting around with nobody looking at them.
I'd think it'd be fine as long as it doesn't end up being heavier than a mk3 or at best, doesn't end up as heavy as the nismo Z that somehow weights 3700lbs.
People said Toyota should’ve just used the LC500/RC platform and were upset about the Supra having sports car elements to it, such as being nimble and lightweight. They’ll be fine.
Where do all the billions in profit that these car companies are making every year go? It sounds completely absurd to me that these car companies are all saying that they don't have the money to build their own stuff and need to partner up with other companies to share the cost to be able to put out a new car. How were they creating new cars back in the 90s? Japanese car companies were building the best cars they have ever built compared to all the crap cars they are building today. These cars are just getting worse every year now using more cheap plastics and stupid electronics that will surely fail after 5 years because electric components can't last as long as the mechanical parts they used to build cars with. People would be crazy to buy these poorly designed electrical nightmares because they are only meant to last as long as they warranty them. All this safety crap that they are putting into them is just ridiculous and annoying as hell. These cars are not any safer either. The same amount of people are having the same amount of accidents and now these cars are just spying on people so the car makers can sell that information to insurance companies so they can raise their rates and deny people they feel are not driving the way they want them to. And you can forget repairing these cars on your own now too. The car makers want to be your only option for you to repair your car which is why we are seeing outrageous car repair bills now. These car makers are making obscene amounts of money now and they have the nerve to tell the people that they can't afford to design and build their own cars like they used to? Who is taking all that money then? Cars have become way more expensive and they are built cheaper and are not built to last more than 5 years. The list of terrible things they are now doing to us is very long now with more ways to screw us being added every day. You would be a stupid fool to consider buying a car built after the mid-2000s because they are all total crap. They might be faster but they are not worth the money if they were not also built to last which newer cars are not. There is only one way to get them to stop doing this crap and that is for everyone to just stop buying them all together. Because when you buy one of these poorly built cars, you are just helping them to continue to keep screwing everyone over. I laugh whenever someone tries showing off their new piece of shit to me because I know that moron is spending way more money than he can afford to with a ton more to be spent in repairs in the future. I work hard for my money and I'll be damed if I'm going to just hand it over to some car maker CEO to own one. i know my older built Toyota truck was built to last a million miles and I can repair and service it myself for a quarter of the price when it needs it. I drive my cars a lot and I wouldn't even consider trading them in for any of these newer cars ever. My bank account is much happier and my driving experience is also much better too. I feel much safer in my older vehicles that don't try to annoy me with all their safety features that are always trying to drive the car and make annoying sounds every 20 seconds. That's because I'm not scared of my car and I learned how to drive my cars well. People that need their cars to drive like a backseat driver would should just take the bus if they are too lazy to learn how. How pathetic these people are that think they need their cars to be doing the driving for them. These people are just scared of their own shadows and they need to just live in their basements where they belong and never come outside again. The world would be a better place and nobody would miss them at all.

Man I’ve seen older ones go for higher then that yet you don’t get mad when used cars are valuable? The 2 door one called 22b is like $300k or something yet people think that’s acceptible but not a new car being expensive?!?
@@drippgxdplease stop talking about cars because it seems like you don’t know what’s coming out of your mouth
The only 2-3 routes that make sense for a mk6 is-
1. Using mazdas I6 + new rwd mazda platform as a rebadged supra.
2. A EV supra.
Or 3. Toyota extending their partnership with bmw *IF* they wanted to make it a hybrid mk5.
@@hpickettz34there’s already a 6 figure Supra… check the used market for 90s Supras…
I’ll believe when I see it. Don’t take rumors serious
@@drippgxd is it new sold by Toyota?
Good point, they really should have a 4Runner competitor.

Affordable sports cars starts falling off (discontinued ) one after the other. The main reason is sales and I don’t blame car companies. Most now buy mid sized and small crossover cars.
Which of the three cars would you choose?
Which 3?
@@MattMaranMotoring The WRX tS, Supra and Porsche Hybrid. I know they're different but all fun, good looking cars!
They’re really doing everything BUT an STI
Subaru in general is trash tbh
Wunderbar! Another Episode of the Matt Maran Friday Night Car News Show - with a lot of great topics again. Wishing everybody here a great day and a fantastic weekend ahead. Enjoy the News and your free time!
Safe, clean, affordable, cheaply made.
The tS is practically an STI minus the transmission and power bump. It does now have the different driving modes similar to the DCCD and it has active torque vectoring. That's right from Subaru of America's website. Upgrade the clutch and get a tune and you practically have an STI.
…but isn’t
Subaru-keep dragging your feet on the Sti. It only makes my 21' Sti more desirable & worth more $. 😜🤑
I only have one thing to say get rid of Carlos Tavares at stalantis
Supra Mk5 comes to an abrupt halt just like the Mk4. 🙁
Subaru has lost the plot for Enthusiasts... They need new management
The problem is the stock market doesn't care about enthusiast targeting. They care about mass market appeal.
@@falxonPSNnot a problem - it is called marketing. They in business, after all, to make cars, and not to make you individually happy. You can mod it, right?
For the algorithms
My god your comments are being hijacked!
Maybe they are teasing the Sti gauges for the next sti coming gas powered
Its a miracle the WRX is still around given the marketplace and Subaru is a low volume brand.
Matt, maybe Genesis could be going ahead with the crazy concept they had that looked like a Delorean.
🙂👍
Ashame they not making the STI
They should just cancel the Supra then, nobody wants a under powered and heavier Supra.
I'd think it'd be fine as long as it doesn't end up being heavier than a mk3 or at best, doesn't end up as heavy as the nismo Z that somehow weights 3700lbs.
Isn’t that the mark 4???
@drippgxd mk3 was kinda heavy at the time also, mk3 had alot of luxury features in those days.
People said Toyota should’ve just used the LC500/RC platform and were upset about the Supra having sports car elements to it, such as being nimble and lightweight. They’ll be fine.
Just buy Kia K4 and K5.
We want an STI not this knock of civic si weak sauce. Toyota and Honda and Hyundai are demolishing Subaru
BMW and Porsche just making the ugliest cars possible these days.
You must be using some pretty impressive drugs?
Rivian 🤮
