Thank you so much for having me, Kyle. You are a great person to roadtrip with. So many great people, and so many great stories from Chris! An adventure I won’t forget, I had so much fun in the i7. You truly get to experience a car doing this 🔥

@@ryancarlson1494 most people recomend one to two weeks to cross the u.s.a. via road trip, the fact they finished in under 3 days with 0 issues, and spent $0 on charging is very impressive. Shows even older model is more capable then most people are at long distance road trips. Most people stop for a night or two at hotels, and would be able to charge to 100% to start next day. This test showed limit of whats possible. In the extreme. I literally don't know anyone in real life whos done coast to coast that fast. 2 days or less is nuts. 3k miles is so far. In europe, an ev team drove 3k miles, and crossed 16 countries. Took them 4 days.
I'd love to see this same test (and distance) being done in Europe to compare the current differences in EV charging infrastructure... perhaps something like Portugal to Russia, or Norway to Gibraltar, or Greece to Norway!... It doesn't need to have the all the exact same cars, But the Porsche, the Teslas, The Hyunday, the Mercedes... and a 2.0-2.5L TDI definitely need to be there
So glad that an ICE car and the original Model S was included. It's good for us to be honest about how fast EVs really roadtrip compared to ICE. But it's also great to see how far we've come from 10 years ago.
@@hardywoodaway9912 it's realistic test for cannon ball run😂 but yeah most people sleep and stop to eat in between so the time difference would have been much smaller.
@hardywoodaway9912 This video is perfect for all those YT comments saying how they can drive for 3 days nonstop without sleep, toilet, and snack breaks in their ICE, and that EVs will never catch on. This video definitely proves that the technology is getting closer.
@@hardywoodaway9912 You missed the whole point of the race and test. This was never about how people actually drive, but rather to have a race without stopping on the same exact route using the same rules to show how far we've come in just 10 years of modern EV's. That the Taycan was only 2 hours behind the ICE Acura, but the Old Model S was 19 hours behind says it all. It's a night and day difference in evolution over a very short period of time.
I’m not going to lie… there were times I wish the Taycan charged just a little bit slower so I could enjoy a walk around an empty parking lot or have time to really pick some good snacks. That thing is a charging beast.
We have the same problem with our Model 3 - by the time the dog has walked around the chargers and everyone's gone to the toilet there's not time to eat the fast food we bought. I've started trying to plan stops at places where we can pre-order online and have food waiting for us when we arrive.
Nothing hit harder than a shower after this roadtrip 😭😂 thanks to the entire Out Of Spec team for making this possible and thank you to the Taycan team for being such great teammates on this journey. Also, Jordan you’re an animal for editing all of this together.
Didn't see a whole lot of you in this series. Either it was editing choices or your team didn't have you on camera much at all. That Taycan was a beast, as we all knew it would be!
@@danielzhang1916 You can give him a pass on the 2nd F-150 Lightning race, but not on the 1st one when they purposely took it down to basically 0% percent. And even the 2nd one you're talking about wasn't that far from 0%. There's no reason not to stop and charge when you're down to 10%, and not stay longer when you're still getting high rates of charge. That mentality has to stop.
I'd add that a second big takeway, for me, is that the public-charging infrastructure is much, much better than I expected from all the bad reviews constantly online (not enough chargers, chargers broken/offline, long queue lines, etc.) -- at least along this northern-US interstate-highway trip in late September 2024. Granted, it wasn't during a holiday week, but still, I'm impressed and a little less worried about range anxiety on a cross-country trip now -- staying close to interstate highways, anyway. I know that other interstate highways are not as well built out as I-90 is, in terms of number of charging stations.
Don't forget that in the real world application of this, people (families) will stop probably 3 - 4 times for a hotel so I'd stay at a hotel that had a charger and wake up with a full charge. Also, people actually do stop at restaurant's and eat where I would again pick one by a charger and charge up. In a non race situation it's basically equal. Only downside is the charger placements dictate where you have to eat or sleep which in my experience with my Model S Long Range hasn't been too inconvenient.
@ yes that would also be a good race format. Drive 10 hours then grab a hotel. Definitely would favor the big battery competition. Lucid and BMW would have fared much better.
Watched all of 90 Surge race videos. Never ever watched this long RUclips videos, but something with these videos keeps me watching 😂. I'm do not even own EV, and probably can't afford in many years, still here watchin this from other side of world. Huge thanks to all!
To refresh Davids previous comment on here. Every team was in it to win it and we all made collective decisions on our strategies. If you pay close attention there are other teams beside the team Lucid getting close to the 0% state of charge. Giving Dave Alex and Shane crap for doing so seems to be easy, in fact that tow truck could have been coming for any of us. For anybody feeling they would have done a better job, I say, bring it. The route started in Seattle at the Starbucks headquarters and ended at the USS Constitution in Boston at the peer. Use your car, rent a car, have a team of 3-4 drivers (safety first, very important) and record your drive. Beat the times we all logged and claim the your rank. I personally could not be happier having had the opportunity to participate in this race and meet the most amazing EV enthusiast. Dave, Alex, Shane you rock!
@@andyzegerman i was critical in my comment and my bad this inspired me to road trip from Minnesota to California since were moving cross country with my model 3 long range. Thank you
Such a cool series! I think it’s worth mentioning that disregarding the ACURA and Taycan, the top 4 cars arrived within an hour of each other, that’s nothing for an almost 50 hour trip. It’s comforting to know that you can get a good deal without spending 100K. The Lucid could have probably ended in the same bracket as these if things had gone smoothly.
I agree. It was also very good to have the old Model S in the race. Some people could have come to the conclusion to just buy an older EV and get the same results. Now they would know what to really expect.
One thing I’ve learned is you can only use the buffer a handful of times until the BMS catches on to your shenanigans, that’s why you can’t trust the BMS
I don't fully trust battery charge levels on any electronic device... sometimes electrons in batteries just seem to vanish into thin air faster than you were expecting!
It's always better to stay a few extra minutes and build up that buffer so you don't scrub speed. That's what I've learned watching these, some people just don't learn their lesson though.
This is really awesome! My wife who doesn't watch was hooked. She said that you should do an suv version. This is what you use for road tripping anyway.
They did one from Colorado to Las Vegas and back. On the way there it was do what you want and on the way back everyone had to follow the route planned. It was pretty good
They definitely should do one with 7 seater EV minivans; EV campervans (like the VW ones); and even typical US sized EV motorhomes/RVs... all of which are more suitable vehicles for cross-country vacation touring trips with family or friends!...
As a European, I am shocked at the state of disrepair of the charging stations, and the ridiculous number of these stations. I didn't think America was that far behind. (the law in my country is that each car park with more than 20 spaces must have a charging point every 20 spaces)
Sad part? It is about fall even harder behind as the rest of the world progresses towards more EVs while the new US government will cancel their EV incentives and subsidies in favour of oil again. Even bigger kick in the pants is the CEO of Tesla is BACKING this change.
I agree with you 1000%. Unfortunately it looks like hit job on Lucid. I dont agree with the approach to only put just enough to make to the next stop at zero percent. I figure it was going to happen once i saw who was going to be in the lucid. Ugh
Most of the time, Kyle is fine. But every now and then he does an A-hole thing like that where he makes an assumption about people’s motives and starts honking the car horn of a car from an app. Just not cool. Especially when others do stop briefly for similar reasons.
@@josephraffurty9293yeah like look at all these people. Everyone was super motivated to race and win. I think Kyle with his cool head he knows, but he should keep his cool head.
I imagine BMW believes that it protects the battery. I’ve driven my BMW I4 7000+ miles without this problem because I have charged on AC while I sleep. It’s not a real world problem IMO.
What a race! Worth the wait. Special thanks to all the team! As one of the few Electrified G80 owners, it was nice to see one in the race. It makes you do the math!!!!
Have you done any road trips in your G80? I was originally casted for the Genesis but last minute changes put me in the Plaid. I was actually looking forward to drive it.
@ Yes: 2 road trips. Now that I know how to use the car I have no issues. Funny I took delivery 45 days before the prices dropped on The Plaid. I went to trade it with 5K miles on it & they only wanted to give me $47K for it. Car was $81K. So I’m looking at a Plaid with track pack next year.
And what if Tesla installed all Version 3s in Wyoming and South Dakota instead of Version 2s? Wishful thinking, but that's why we are getting these tests.
@@magnus966 Right now, Hyundai's 800v system won't work to its full potential with Tesla's V2 and V3 stations - they will still charge, but at a slower rate than EA. It should work with the new V4s.
@@TheReal_JGI was so surprised by the amount of old Tesla chargers. Seeing anything below a V3 is rare in Germany. And from the closest 4 superchargers, 2 are already V4. Also since everything is CCS2, every EV can just charger wherever they want. We often have stops right by the highway with like 3 different companies and 20 stalls each.
Dave REALLY has a bad habit of leaning into the buffer of EVs far after 0% battery and then doesn't own up to it after consecutive DC fast charges throws any BMS out of balance. It was to be expected when they kept pushing the Lucid farther and farther into the negatives.
Correct, and then passing by 350kW chargers right by the highway because they were "too high a state of charge" at 14% left. The "Out of Charge Dave" new moniker is well deserved. This is the 3rd time he's run out on 3 different races.
Great job - Out of SpecTeam! Taking aside the Porsche which just blew all other EVs off - the M3, I6, Plaid, EQS and the Lucid (if the team would have thought more and less talked) are actually within an hour!! And most surprising to me that it looks like the EQS is the hidden winner in that race, as what do you want really? - don’t care about changing (flat at 200kw), each leg 300+ miles, amazing comfortable, efficient, big battery and one even gets the right trunk opening! Overall great job from the teams - thumbs up 👍
EQS was the team that went for the most comfy recharges at 15% when the I6 ran it down below 0 like 3 times. They would have beaten the plaid if they hadnt charged as full as they had on their last charge. EQS ended with 13%, plaid with 4%.
Good job using the Ioniq 6 so well! I think like they say at the end, the Ioniq 6 could actually be better than the Tesla Model 3 long range if it were given more highway-accessible charging stops. It's almost like even the reduced rate the Ioniq 6 would get on Superchargers would be worth it for the much reduced paths from the highway to the chargers, and better selection of locations...
As a Hyundai/Genesis owner, you guys represented extremely well! Well done! My next car will most likely be an Ionic 6 or EV6 once they update the charge plugs to Tesla network
Less than 5% difference between the Acura and the Taycan, that's amazing! Shows that EVs are within ~5 years of parity with ICE cars for road tripping. It'll be interesting to see how long until they reach parity while towing. I thought we were probably a decade out, but the new GM products are beasts, maybe it isn't that far away. Also comparing the times of the Taycan and the old Model S it shows that road tripping time has improved by almost 30%. Wow! Also, we should give a shout out to EA, they have come so far in the last 3 years. They still have a ways to go, but the lack of problem in this video was a massive improvement over what we used to see. It used to be that you had to be concerned about being able to charge at all at EA stations. Now, it seems you're almost guaranteed to get some charge, it might be slower than you hoped, but you aren't stranded. And most of the time the EA stations performed as expected. They've put in a lot of hard work and I think they deserve some kudos.
Realistically, they are even closer. This was a cannonball run, from first hand experience, a normal road trip in a new model 3 is as smooth and careless as butter. I can imagine Tycan doing even better and Ioniq 6 being just as good...
How on earth do you get only 30% better from the old Model S? How is 17 hours behind the Taycan 30% from the 46 hours of the Taycan? That math makes the old Model S 37% slower than the Taycan. Just the 17 hours faster on the Taycan, and the Taycan's mere 2 hours slower than the ICE Acura over 3,000 plus miles, is a mind boggling improvement in basically only a decade.
Did you even watch the first episode where the Acura fools farted around, stopping to go through drive-through's? If they would have paid attention to Kyle's instructions and made their stops as abbreviated as the EV's they would have finished hours and hours ahead of the Taycan.
@@kjorg9755 They wasted a half hour at the most. If you followed the race after that, you could see that they simply could not shake the Taycan no matter what. Keep in mind that the Taycan stops were mostly 11 to 12 minutes long. Not too far off from pumping gas. And I can see how that scares a lot of people out there.
For me, the biggest takeaway here is that the Ioniq 6 was only 13 minutes behind the Model 3 (with the bigger battery and Tesla’s charging infrastructure)!
the model 3 has only a marginally bigger battery (4-5kwh) and a much worse charging tech (350kw vs 250kw) considering all this I fully expected the model 3 to finish behind but its efficiency and charging network were much better even if for a big stretch of the trip the tesla supercharger were arguably worse than what the ioniq 6 had access to.
Amazing performance from the Ioniq 6, but not surprising to anyone who has been paying attention to Hyundai. Don’t forget the Ioniq is the car with the smallest battery of this bunch.
Jordan!!!! Best editing yet, never mind how long it must have taken you. Thank you for your work this was truly the best series yet and I’m so excited for the next one
1:55:13 "Risk takers own the world, maybe just not today." No truer words have been spoken. I've taken strategic risks in my life, some made out big, others not so much.
To all the folks giving Team Lucid a hard time for running out; it easily could have been literally any of us. We were all playing close to the edge in that respect during this trip. It comes hand in hand with trying to optimize your charging. Which is what this challenge is about. Dave, Alex and Shane are great dudes and made the best choices they could with the information they had. - David (Team Taycan)
@@CheddarKungPao David, congrats on the win! You and the car deserved it. I was wondering; did you guys relay only on Taycan's route planner or did you plan the trip yourself?
@ we planned the trip ourselves. You need to because the route planner A) doesn't take wearhee into account, we still got into trouble due to this as you saw but also B) doesn't have a way to say "stay on I-90". So we chose step by step where our next stops would be. This is also important because we were also tryjng to make sure we wouldn't have to wait to charge at tbe next stop. On a normal road trip i think the route planner would do just fine. Just remember to account for inclomate weather! And thanj you!
It’s not just that error. I love Dave, but the poor strategy was throughout the whole trip. Didn’t take advantage of the Lucids strengths at all. Could have done much better, even before the gaff at the end. Still, really enjoyed the whole series for sure!
Great video I watched all 4 all the way through. No fast forward. I love you chose I 90 . I also love that the taycan won my favorite car if I had the money . Great that william came all the way from Norway . If Tesla bjorn didn’t have kids now it would have been cool to have him with william . It was hard to wait all week for each installment but I know Jordan did his best to get it out .
its crazy that you can make like 9 hours of cars driving exciting, but you did it, I watched all of it, and I loved every single second!! huge props to everybody involved in this MASSIVE project!!
Man, I’m the “I’m gonna buy an EV when I’m forced to and not a day sooner” kind of guy and I just watched 11.5 hours of a cross country EV road trip. That was a lot of fun to watch! Thanks! Shoutout to Matt and Zack from TST for introducing me to Kyle
1:52:00 Dave feathered it into a 110 outlet. In all seriousness charging an extra few minutes always works in the real world where if you have too much juice in the pack you can just drive a little faster to push down your arrival SOC and make better time.
@@TechnicalLee They could have tried going 5 over at most, draft behind semi’s and added extra charge so they could have preconditioned to have better charging curve possibly.
That was one of the most epic series of videos I have ever seen. Total props to the entire team of people that drove in the epic race. Also hats off to the video editing team what a phenomenal compilation of all the videos provided by all the teams. Keep up the great work and I hope you all got some well-deserved rest afterwards.
Wow wow wow! I've watched EVERY minute of this roadtrip. Thank you sooo much for this entertainment! You're awesome people. I live in germany and we own a BMW ix3 and a VW ID.4 GTX. So I have some experience. We do a lot of long trips as well but .. maaan ... 3000 miles is beyond imagination. Would be fun to see the current BMW i4 in the next roadtrip. Concerning the BMW charging performance: Our ix3 never disapoints, charging is very relaible and consistent. So, BMW generally knows how to manage good charging.
unbelievable race and series. great work teams. Really is remarkable how close these cars are getting to combustion and needs to be shown to a lot of the EV-skeptical world! Kyle & gang have a passion for testing and showing EVs to the world that I have seen on few other channels. Can't wait for the next adventure! Also just gotta say, OOS Dave has the best attitude! nothing can get him down
As a GV60 owner and subscriber to your channel, I was rooting for you. Great job! I’ve enjoyed the road trips I’ve done in the GV60 but I’m way too old to punish myself in a race like this. But it was fun watching you guys do it.
Just finished the entire series. Epic is the word for this endeavor, for sure. I was at the edge of my seat for the entire "race." It felt like listening to the Indy 500 race in the 1970's, with Paul Page narrating all the position swaps due to pit stops, drivers overtaking, mechanical failures, and crashes. What a great crew of drivers, kudos to all and especially Kyle for his selection of cars and crews. Jordan gets extra kudos for a well done and totally monstrous editing job. I was impressed by the Taycan's performance. Porsche obviously designed and validated for autobahn travel. So did Mercedes, but WTF was BMW thinking? Also impressed by Model 3 and Ionic 6. IMO the 3 is the much better value of the two. Surprising was the Lucid's efficiency, 3.4 mi/kWh vs. 3.8 for the Model 3, IIRC. I expected better efficiency from Lucid, but it would have been only a few minutes behind the 3 had it not run out just before reaching a charger.
@@mcrkon Yeah, Tesla makes a good car for the right price and has a very impressive charging network. They also are owned by someone that doesn't need or deserve any of my dollars.

It's actually amazing. It's only 2-4 hours between the Acura and EVs over a 3,000-mile distance. And the winners of the race for me are the Model 3 and the Ioniq 6.
yeah while ev drivers were doing calculus non-stop for days, the guys on the acura were appreciating the landscape playing on their phones and sh1t. That ignoring the fact that they purposely crippled the ICE car choice with a poor mileage one, of course
@@xeon2k8Yes exactly, I am going to take the peace of mind, more comfortable seating position as there are no batteries, I can stop whenever I want, I don't have range anxiety, can enjoy the journey, if the roads are safe then can go more faster than 10+ the limit as well. This EV bs is just crazy
@@pooh6546 driving 50 hours non stop is in no way representative of the real world this is a stress test of EVs. In a real road trip there is no such thing as range anxiety. Its a solved problem. The only reason that they did not go more than 10 above is that they need to follow the law. EVs are in all ways superior to combustion.
Awesome race with surprising results, congratulations to the teams for this huge effort!. I saw Lucid as the hottest candidate....boy is the Taycan in its own category, nobody got even close.
I knew buying an Ioniq 6 was a good buy. I might be taking it from SoCal to Austin Texas next week - and have to keep reminding myself I won't be racing, so charging deep isn't an issue. Relax. :)
I volunteered to drive it from Boston back to Out of Spec studios in Colorado, and I was extremely impressed. It was also my first ever CCS road trip (done plenty of Tesla and CHAdeMO roadtrips, haha). -Alex (Team old Model S)
Great test and thank you to the whole team involved in this test! One question: can you make a separate episode analysing the performance of all the cars at the charging stations? (number of stops, total / average time per stop, kWh added, kWh added per minute, cost, average trip between charges, etc)
Nice job, everyone, and thank you for getting the data we all need with this test. NICE JOB EDITING! That's a thankless, hard job! I was a little surprised you made it without having to use 400v chargers for the Taycan, which would have hurt. But I love my 2020 Taycan4S even with that potential shortcoming.
Taycan average speed very close to Cannonball EV record speed. Very impressive drive by all teams. Hope charging infrastructure will develop in the years to come. Really fun to watch this series 😊
This was such a fun series. Thank you so much! I am astonished that an EV only took an extra 2 hours over a gas car. That is absolutely insane. Especially considering they were limited to current infrastructure. I wonder how much closer it would be if there were 350kw chargers at every gas station. Wild!!! I think the Porsche easily shows that 800+ voltage architecture is the future. It’s still a pretty big difference between the Taycan and the Model 3. Also, the Ioniq 6 got pulled over which was probably a 20 minute delay or more since they had to watch their speed a little ways afterwards. Tesla has had a decade to perfect 400v charging and it seems it can’t really compete with even the Ioniq 6 charging. Even though Hyundai is relatively new in Long range EVs, they had the soul and Ioniq before but they weren’t real long range EVs. Think about once Tesla goes to 800v and has 10 years to develop that through, it will probably be on par with the gas car!
This race shows the gap in EV vs ICE is getting closer and closer. One thing I would love to see for the next race: Drivers that are EV novices or those unfamiliar with EVs.
People might only road trip 1-2 times a year and the other 50 weeks they are commuting or traveling locally. Allowing for a 5 minute gasoline fill up per week, thats over 4 hours per year. An EV charging at home might actually out perform gas over a year’s time. Not even counting oil change or emissions testing time. Obviously every situation varies.
For me, it’s often going 10 minutes out of the way locally to get gas for my ICEV … with fill-up time, that’s 15-30 minutes per week (at once per week)
Get idea, but they spent their times talking to other cars when I thought it was a race to beat eat other instead they were most 0n the same pit strategy.
Just started looking into EVs and found this series very informative. I've been comparing a few different models, and after watching this, I may order a Macan Turbo. The performance of the Porsche was impressive. There's still a lot to think about, but you all answered a ton of questions with this one. I appreciate the work that went into this series!

For Europeans, to put this into perspective is almost the same distance as :
Edinburgh, Scotland to Damascus, Syria.
🤯
We usually don't drive from Scotland to Syria. Just a simple conversion from US body parts to km would do it 😀
It looks like Lisbon to Antalya could be feasible and only very slightly shorter
Lisbon - Antalya
Istanbul-North Cape would be possible to do on good roads with charger networks albiet with some variation.
But it's also great to see how far we've come from 10 years ago.
this isn’t a realistic test, this is driving with different people without pauses.
@@junehanzawa5165 if the others had the same battery as the Taycan, it would have been a lot closer
I’m not going to lie… there were times I wish the Taycan charged just a little bit slower so I could enjoy a walk around an empty parking lot or have time to really pick some good snacks. That thing is a charging beast.
This is true. Especially for a single driver. I drove the Lucid air touring and it gave me 40 mins of charging enough to get some quick naps.
We have the same problem with our Model 3 - by the time the dog has walked around the chargers and everyone's gone to the toilet there's not time to eat the fast food we bought. I've started trying to plan stops at places where we can pre-order online and have food waiting for us when we arrive.
I wonder how all of you managed back them when you were driving gas vehicles.

You guys have done more for EV's than anyone else, great videos! Ty keep them coming
Mr Elons team done a thing or two
The big takeaway to me is that 11 years ago, a gas car had a 19-hour advantage over EVs. Today, that lead has dwindled to 2 hours.
That's a great comment.
If my parents were driving the gas car, it would have finished dead last. Behind even the old Model S.
Jordan: Thanks for all of the hard work of these videos. Major props to you!

Such a cool series! I think it’s worth mentioning that disregarding the ACURA and Taycan, the top 4 cars arrived within an hour of each other, that’s nothing for an almost 50 hour trip. It’s comforting to know that you can get a good deal without spending 100K. The Lucid could have probably ended in the same bracket as these if things had gone smoothly.
yeah if the BMW didn't have problems, it could have put up a good fight to the end
I agree. It was also very good to have the old Model S in the race. Some people could have come to the conclusion to just buy an older EV and get the same results. Now they would know what to really expect.
I watched people dirving for more than 10 hours, and I loved it. Great stuff guys!
One thing I’ve learned is you can only use the buffer a handful of times until the BMS catches on to your shenanigans, that’s why you can’t trust the BMS
This is very well explained! Unfortunately 😢
Jordan has the best voice as “the narrator” providing commentary.
It's quite shocking how third-world a lot of the infrastructure is. It must be very hard managing a large continent country.
Sad part? It is about fall even harder behind as the rest of the world progresses towards more EVs while the new US government will cancel their EV incentives and subsidies in favour of oil again. Even bigger kick in the pants is the CEO of Tesla is BACKING this change.

You will love the Plaid. It is difficult for me to drive it here in the US, without the comfort of unlimited speeds like the German Autobahn. 😅

“Because Dave Connor secretly works for big oil”… I just want you to know that got a hearty laugh from me.
What if the ioniq 6 hadn't been pulled over? Hyundai has understood the assignment.
And what if Tesla installed all Version 3s in Wyoming and South Dakota instead of Version 2s? Wishful thinking, but that's why we are getting these tests.
@TheReal_JG What if all the cars had access to same stations, with voltages compatible with all the cars
@@magnus966 Right now, Hyundai's 800v system won't work to its full potential with Tesla's V2 and V3 stations - they will still charge, but at a slower rate than EA. It should work with the new V4s.
@@TheReal_JG I know, that's where the "what if" comes in, and v2s can't speak CCS at all
@@TheReal_JGI was so surprised by the amount of old Tesla chargers. Seeing anything below a V3 is rare in Germany. And from the closest 4 superchargers, 2 are already V4.
Also since everything is CCS2, every EV can just charger wherever they want. We often have stops right by the highway with like 3 different companies and 20 stalls each.
The Lucid with 500 miles range, yet the group let it run out of battery. Lol the heck. Short charges dont save you that much time.
Lucid teams make mistakes after mistakes ... they should be up with tancan not stuck waiting for tow truck.
They don't know the quote "to finish first, first you must finish" lol
Dave REALLY has a bad habit of leaning into the buffer of EVs far after 0% battery and then doesn't own up to it after consecutive DC fast charges throws any BMS out of balance. It was to be expected when they kept pushing the Lucid farther and farther into the negatives.
Correct, and then passing by 350kW chargers right by the highway because they were "too high a state of charge" at 14% left. The "Out of Charge Dave" new moniker is well deserved. This is the 3rd time he's run out on 3 different races.
The results are irrelevant. The consumer buys a car accepting what it is and it isn't. The results don't alter the car's ability. It is what it is.
Third place ain’t a bad place to be 😁
Good job using the Ioniq 6 so well!
Did you track how much time was lost due to the traffic stop? Would that have made a difference, second to third?
Closer than it has any right to be. I still pick an Ioniq 6 over any Model 3.
You guys might have had a chance at 2nd if you didn't get pulled over. Nice race!
As a Hyundai/Genesis owner, you guys represented extremely well! Well done! My next car will most likely be an Ionic 6 or EV6 once they update the charge plugs to Tesla network
If I were an automobile manufacturer, I would never let Dave race one of my cars.

For me, it was the model 3's efficiency. Bonkers compared to every other contender especially for the price.
Don't forget getting pulled over. That didn't help their time any.
the model 3 has only a marginally bigger battery (4-5kwh) and a much worse charging tech (350kw vs 250kw) considering all this I fully expected the model 3 to finish behind but its efficiency and charging network were much better even if for a big stretch of the trip the tesla supercharger were arguably worse than what the ioniq 6 had access to.
And the fact that the ioniq is…. hideous, makes the comparison kinda silly. But that’s entirely subjective for sure. 😂
Thanks for the great series fellas. This video is going to be literal documented history, years into the future, on how EV's used to be.
Awesome Job!
Amazing performance from the Ioniq 6, but not surprising to anyone who has been paying attention to Hyundai. Don’t forget the Ioniq is the car with the smallest battery of this bunch.

@@CheddarKungPao David, congrats on the win! You and the car deserved it. I was wondering; did you guys relay only on Taycan's route planner or did you plan the trip yourself?

As a GV60 owner and subscriber to your channel, I was rooting for you. Great job! I’ve enjoyed the road trips I’ve done in the GV60 but I’m way too old to punish myself in a race like this. But it was fun watching you guys do it.
Lucid would have come in second if you had anyone who knows how to road trip an EV driving it.
BAD ASS! What all of you guys and gals did!!!!!! LEARNED SO MUCH!!!
Shoutout to Barbara for being a real one!
Congratulations OOS team (and guests)! What an amazing race. It turns out the final ranking wasn't that surprising.
And @kyleconner It is OK to admit Tesla has an Elon problem.
@@mcrkon Yeah, Tesla makes a good car for the right price and has a very impressive charging network. They also are owned by someone that doesn't need or deserve any of my dollars.
Great Series! Thank you all for this.
can't believe you let us wait those additional 9 minutes. you are cruel!
LET'S FINALLY GOOOO!
what a video
what a finish :)
i saw part 1, and waited till u released part 4 so i could binge :D
thank you - this was fun
cant wait for the next big trip after more new EV tech is installed and stuff :)
It's actually amazing. It's only 2-4 hours between the Acura and EVs over a 3,000-mile distance. And the winners of the race for me are the Model 3 and the Ioniq 6.
I want a test with the equinox ev and the ev3.
I think it should be noted that the Acura guys spent some time fooling around at the start which probably closed the gap by a bit
yeah while ev drivers were doing calculus non-stop for days, the guys on the acura were appreciating the landscape playing on their phones and sh1t.
Fantastic videos series, I have seen all of them, very interesting and amenous. Perfect work.
Poor Dave, always getting stranded on OOS road trips 😂
I remember when he got stuck in the Ionic 5 in the middle of the night and plugged into the 120v outlet for the ice machine at a gas station.
Well, I guess someone needs to test what happens when things don't go according to plan in EV roadtrips...
Yeah, most of us did not expect the Ioniq 6 to be so good.
What a series! So amazing to watch every second... Please more of that! Greetings from Austria
Great test and thank you to the whole team involved in this test! One question: can you make a separate episode analysing the performance of all the cars at the charging stations? (number of stops, total / average time per stop, kWh added, kWh added per minute, cost, average trip between charges, etc)
Thanks for highlighting the excellent convenience of the chargers in the Ohio Turnpike rest stops (Tesla and EA). We Ohioans are lucky to have those.
I just wish they’d actually put in the 4 other EA locations that have been “coming soon” for the last 3 years.
I’m exhausted just watching these guys. What a trip.
If you get a good charge curve, stay and charge to 80%, no point dashing off....whats up with the Lucid team? Did they sabotage Lucid on purpose?
They expected a buffer from previous tests, but it wasn’t there. Most people wouldn’t push the limits like that on a normal trip
Lucid has a terrible charging curve. It tapers at 15 - 20% so they had to keep it at the bottom of the battery pack for best charging speeds.
@@lemongavine It always sucks when the electrons leave the battery earlier than expected and management doesn't report that to the driver!
A big takeaway I got from this is that you can get a relatively affordable EV that still has good charging speeds like the model 3 and Hyundai.
This race shows the gap in EV vs ICE is getting closer and closer.
One thing I would love to see for the next race: Drivers that are EV novices or those unfamiliar with EVs.
Well done, this is an amazing series, really appreciate this content!
Here we go! Got my pancakes and cawfee and I-90surge on my 4ktv ready to go!
Every charging stop should include sit ups, pushups, running, jumping, backflips and cartwheels.
Get idea, but they spent their times talking to other cars when I thought it was a race to beat eat other instead they were most 0n the same pit strategy.
Robert Dunn for the win!!!
Just started looking into EVs and found this series very informative. I've been comparing a few different models, and after watching this, I may order a Macan Turbo. The performance of the Porsche was impressive. There's still a lot to think about, but you all answered a ton of questions with this one. I appreciate the work that went into this series!
Great job Dave , driving the Lucid till the battery is dead.......what the =%$#@
What a journey, thanks guys for all the dedication and hard work involved👍
Perfect timing, I got a long stint of work coming up. Need this.
Great Job Guys, really enjoyed it very much.
