    My mom let me take lessons 60 years ago and I still remember some cords. But I haven’t held a guitar 🎸 in ten years but I’m gonna get one. I’ve been watching RUclips videos and have learned a lot from them.
    Thanks to all the RUclips teachers.

    It’s one of the best videos from trying to find in the last 20 years. I wish you have more videos to teach strumming and change cords in easy way.

    Shane, thank you so much. I'be beem struggling with learning guitar over the last TEN years. Sometimes I tried, other times I would leave that way. So last month, I finally found your classes, and I began playing A Horse with no Name. Man, I'm really glad I can actually play music with my own hands now. Thank you

    I like how you teach strumming also, most teachers simply emphasis the chords. You can memorize every chord, but if you don’t know how and where to strum and pluck, the guitar remains silent!

    In a you tube video lesson with Tommy Emanuel(?), Tommy said it was very important to feel anf move you body to the groove of what you are playing. You are a great example of that notion. Most other you tube teachers (?) either don't show themselves or are very stiff when playong. Jon MacClennan is an exception but pales next to you/

    Any advice on the timing ? How to get it precise. Thanks so much best youtube teacher by far.

    • @as7river
      @as7river 5 лет назад +2

      Use a metronome. You don't even need to buy one. Get an app for your phone, and depending on how much experience you have with those chords, start off slow; around 60 beats per minute. When you feel comfortable with your starting speed, go up until you reach ~150. 150 is faster than the song, so by mastering that speed you should have no problem keeping up with the original recording. Repetition is key. Try that everyday for at least 20 minutes and in a week you should nail it without issues.

    • @musicisthetruth6535
      @musicisthetruth6535 5 лет назад +1

      @@as7river man cant thank you enough for your instant reply ..... I pretty much have the chords locked down but my timing still off . So you reckon play it to the metronome slowly for a week and should be on lock ?
      Thanks so much ... really any bit of advice is appreciated .

    • @GuitarAtWork
      @GuitarAtWork  5 лет назад

      Thanks Music Is Truth - great question. I agree with the reply below - but if you can't seem to stay with the metronome try playing to the original recording. You can get an app that slows it down if you are still struggling with any of the chord changes. My very best to you and hope you have fun with it - Happy New Year!

    Enjoyed the lesson. I note though that at the beginning you say to keep your thumb from creeping up over the edge of the fretboard when playing the A minor, but it looks towards the end when you play through the song at speed that you aren't following your own advice! Well, I guess you don't need to as it sounds fine. I will try it both ways but my thumb, which seems to have a mind of it's own, often ends up kind of wrapping around or at least laying on the edge of the fretboard.

      Hey Rick! Thanks for your message - my 814 is about a year old now - not the new bracing system. You are hearing it plugged directly into the recorder on the videos. There are a couple of videos where I used my 20 year old 814 through a microphone. I really love these guitars.
