  • The Kingfish (Tim Moore) volunteers to help his hostess serve coffee at a party. Sapphire (Ernestine Wade) walks into the kitchen just as he is trying to retrieve a necklace that has fallen down the back of the lady's dress. He tries to explain, but Sapphire leaves in a huff. Trying to buy a present to appease his wife, he finds he lacks the cash, as usual. Andy (Spencer Williams) and The Kingfish decide to collect a $10 debt from a train steward, when The Kingfish is mistaken for a debutante's uncle. A photo of her kissing him appears in the afternoon paper. AIRED March 2, 1955 8:30 PM on CBS - trakt.tv

The woman who played Gloria should have switched roles with the actress who played the society woman . Tim Moore was born on December 9, 1887. He was actually the oldest cast member. He was older than Amanda Randolph who played his mother inlaw. Ernestine Wade was born on August 7, 1906, 19 years younger. It was a similar situation with "The Jeffersons, in reverse. Isabel Sanford was born on August 29, 1917. Sherman Hemsley was born 21 years later on February 1, 1938.

It was not unusual for the age gap between husband and wife back in that era and earlier.
The older man would have been matured with his profession and be a good provider for a younger woman.
But, in the Amos n Andy radio and TV series, it was the younger wife supporting her older husband . . . lol.
The ancestors in my family generally had the husbands being around 10 ~ 15 years older than their wives. My great-great grandfather was 20 years older than his wife, [aka] my great-great grandmother.
