      That's because Mikael is heavily 60's and 70's influenced, very few metal musicians are like him in the sense that they combine old rock with metal and aren't afraid to experiment with the sounds that creates.

    The most interesting part of this whole thing other than the lesson is mikaels line about having a verse in a song. Normally songwriters slave over parts to fit into a rigid song structure. Intro chorus Verse chorus verse bridge solo chorus outro etc.. Mikaels songs don’t follow really any sort of traditional song structure. On grand conjugation the “verse” fits perfectly within the context of the song. It’s like this eerie build almost like footsteps before the explosion of the riff. With that little fingerpicking part harmonizing with it to, it’s just, NOBODY writes music like this. It’s what makes Their music so special. It’s not if it’s heavy. It’s not if it’s soft. It’s how interesting he composes. Especially with no knowledge of music theory. He’s a serious talent.

    • @tylerjacobson8012
      @tylerjacobson8012 5 лет назад +33

      People compose music with theory even if they claim to not know much or any. Theory is more of an understanding of the language of music rather than a blueprint on how to make music. All music is just sounds that connect to each other. The connections that make the notes sound good together are keys, riffs are like sentences, and any other facet of a song are just parts of an ongoing conversation with the vibrations around you. Music theory helps you communicate these musical statements with a common language that everyone can understand. Mikael has a great ear obviously for things that flow together. You don’t need to have knowledge of theory if you have an ear that understands how things go together naturally.

      @@xkmmx2132 Yup. I started studying music theory on my own a few years back, and even though it's fun and helpful to know theory, having good ears is far more important. I think everything comes down to the level of musical intuition one has: obviously, Mikael is superbly intuitive and the knowledge of music is embodied in him.

    Herregud grabbar det är ju premium content återutge Opeth plattora i sk guitar editions med kollade guitar protabs+ backing tracks. Det går ju att skydda guitar pro filer som de gjort med mysongbook Arobas music samma företag som gör programmet. Jag kollar dagligen efter tabs och de versionerna är bra mestadels undrar om de hade en av era? . Bland annat satte de cowboys from hell solot guitar pro format och jag rätt fingrar. Den enda jag sett som är ok på den låten några. De kommer nära även då det är programerat med exakt kvantiserade. tidsvärden. Var kom de här instruktions videorna ifrån ursprungligen. Ola Englund säljer ju sina plattor i guitar editions. Typ för 500 spänn tab book kontrollerad + gp filer backing tracks. Jag köper direkt det är sånt man letar efter ständigt original isolated tracks backing tracks med det riktiga bandet. Jag vet ju att fingerstyle och klassisk gitarr lever på intresset från andra gitarrister varför inte då proggig rock. Jag menar med eran fanbase måste det finnas 100.000 tals intresserade. Sen är det en legacy fråga man ser ju hur felspelat tex Metallica varit bara för att de flesta går efter tabs som var ytgivna för 30 år sedan. Jag har märkt att de flesta inte sitter och kollar upp tabsen så noga utan nöjer sig med att det låter ok. I och man själv är uppväxt med att ta ut själv vill man gärna kolla att de man lär sig är rätt från början så ändringar kan undvikas typ stämning fingersättning.

    • @dand3937
      @dand3937 9 лет назад +16

      sbgrant actually opeth is probably the best example of metal musicians not relying on alternate tunings to be successful being that a good 90-95% of their songs are in standard tuning or just capoing a fret

    • @Qliphirot
      @Qliphirot 9 лет назад +4

      sbgrant Another great example is Metallica. They used to play standard tuning (probably until 94) after that, they changed just for half step down.
      I saw an interview of James Hetfield (classic albums: black album) and he said that he didn't know nothing about music theory and even chord names. And he's one of the most successful metal musicians, besides being the best metal rhythm guitar ever!

    • @schpleeb
      @schpleeb 9 лет назад +7

      sbgrant Ghost Reveries is the only Opeth album that even touches that tuning... everything else they've ever done has been in either standard or Drop D. As Daniel D'Ambrosio said, Mikael is arguably the best example of a metal musician staying within conventional tuning and writing original material.
